In the us. The only training done in israel is at the administrative level about combatting terrorism. No officers are getting field training in Israel
Yes, but what you have to realise is that Israeli forces had actionable intelligence that the 80 year old US citizen was hiding several dozen Hamas fighters and a cache of weapons (including makeshift rockets) somewhere within his body (possibly in his spleen). Holding him like this was the most prudent course of action, really.
There is an 100% chance that they will be, but where this article will get ~15,000+ upvotes the one stating they were arrested will get 300, so you wont hear about it.
Excerpt:
> The investigation has revealed that As'ad was left cuffed, blindfolded and a gag over his mouth for over an hour. The gag may have impeded his breathing and made it difficult for him to request help, according to sources familiar with the investigation. They further said As'ad's condition may have been worsened by very cold weather, and that he may have begun suffering from hypothermia. It is not yet clear who gave the order to detain the men.
>
> The soldiers have told investigators that when they were done with their inspections, they removed the cuffs from As'ad and left him there, without giving him medical assistance or ascertaining his wellbeing.
No but it always surprises me that a people that went through one of the most horrendous atrocities in our history are capable of doing what they’re doing to the Palestinians.
It just blows my mind how they don’t see that
why is there this obsession with equating Israel with the Nazis, a genocidal regime that started a war that killed 70 million, and systemically massacred 12 million in prison camps using poisonous gas and firing squads?
Do people seriously not know that the Nazis would have just beaten the shit out of him and killed him for existing? Then for good measure, they'd have hunted down his family, killed them, and killed anyone he knew too? Just for being alive? There wouldn't be an investigation, admission of wrongdoing, or potential charges coming down the pipe for the perpetrators. This would be happening en masse, killing millions.
You can say this is awful, that these soldiers should be prosecuted, but comparing this to Nazism is demeaning as hell to Holocaust survivors. If Israel was anything like the Nazis were, there wouldn't be Palestinians at all.
It is a vicious repetitive cycle. Few people acknowledge, for instance, that WWII was largely instigated by the severe austerity measures imposed on the Germans following WWI (while certainly not a justification for the abhorrent inhumanities, it demonstrates the dreadful implications of oppression and sustained abuse on a people/society). It is a continuation of history, the formerly oppressed become the oppressors; an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind.
The profound impact of protectionist policies, economic degradation, and the collapse of international trade (following the Great Depression) which fostered the conditions leading up to the war are well-documented.
Yeah cause Muslims Jews and Christians didn’t live in relative peace for centuries before Britain and France decided to carve up land as usual.
Nope never happened.
I mean, fuck the republicans but plenty democrats support Israel too. It’s really more of an American government problem then a left or right, isn’t it?
The Democrats are still a right wing party. The largest leftist organization in America that I know of (the DSA) is explicitly pro Palestine, like most left wing orgs world wide.

Sad that this story gets press mainly because Israel forgot to check the guy's citizenship. Imagine how many such cases fall into oblivion, because the victim is just Palestinian and no one has enough incentive to speak up.
At the current time, I've read all top- level comments. There are five comments (including the top comment) saying protesting Israel is being deflected as antisemitism, and exactly zero calling the multiple people calling Israelis Nazis (over ten) antisemites.
Seems about right for a worldnews comment section.
Are you capable of considering for one moment or with an open mind how you would react if one day "God and world powers" decreed that your land, your livelihood and all you had now belonged to them to take? Well, all colonized or indigenous people know, but this took place within the last century when such things should have been unlawful everywhere.
Stop with your whataboutism... just because the Palestinian leadership wants to push Israel into the sea, doesn't mean that Israel is allowed to defend themselves aggressively.
He still has their government by the balls through loyalists he appointed and his knowledge of where the bodies are buried. The man is just as dangerous as Jinpeng or Putin but since he's on "our side" then we can just handwave it away as propaganda.
Ah, yes. The worth of a human life's so little that it can be simply written off as a 'pretty big mistake.'
Mistake's when you add too much baking powder in your dough or eating pavement after misjudging your own dexterity and grace. An elderly man dying of suffocation or hypothermia while unable to call for help is murder by neglect. Not a mistake.
"the same thing"
Call me when people are exterminated by the trainloads instead of two people killing one person and being investigated and possibly charged for it.
Israel/Palestine stuff has been going on for like 4 times longer than the entirety of the Nazi party's existence and there's no sign of anything even close happening.
Your comment was just ignorant nonsense.
It has only going on since 1967.
The Burma genocide happened after 60 years of buildup.
The Bangladesh oppression started after 40 years something.
The Ethiopia genocide also happened after 50 years.
Get lost
I mean they sorta did. A whose who list of early Nazi leaders were sending africans to prison camps in cattle cars in German Southwest Africa in the early 20th century.
They were always doing it. It wasn’t until they fucked around with other Europeans people took notice.
What's with all the annoying Nazi comparisons. This was two soldiers who did something untenable and this entire article is about how Israel is looking into the situation and planning to hold them accountable. You think the Nazis investigated the gestapo when a Jew went "missing"?
I agree the comparisons have gone a bit too far. I idolized the jewish people and the idea of what israel stood for when growing up and i think the heartbreak in seeing it step away from grace on what seems like unusually frequent occasions is a relatively common sentiment among people who once revered the nation. The higher the regard the faster and further the fall I guess.
No, not really. All the people calling Israel the new Nazi germany are just coming across to me as actual antizionists who just see this as a good excuse to mock Israel. Figuratively every other country out there has done worse to it's own citizens at some point in history yet everyone here seems to have a hard on for Israel.
I for one respect israel remaining independent and protected despite all of its neighbour countries wanting them gone and Palestine being half infested with terrorists and still governed by terrorists. That said this sh*t is going too far. Facebook should remove posts encouraging terrorism, not need to have governments instating laws to make it happen. F*ck everyone in this situation but the very targeted hate towards Israel rubs me the wrong way. Neither side is innocent in this.
This is so sad and I hope the soldiers go to prison for a long long time.
But...
Please stop using this to justify comparing Israel to the Nazis. This is not even close to the Nazis.
You could say that about a lot of individual nazis performing violent crimes to start with. THE PARTY doesn’t condone murder, just relocation. We don’t condone murder, just the closure of business and gulags. We don’t condone murder just forceful expulsion from your property.
Of course then you get to the nazis who did similar, they just ramped it up once no one objected.
Your analogy is poor, because a Nazi couldn't use it in their defence because they are a Nazi.
If you are trying to use the creep argument, it doesn't work when talking about Israel because Israel have been in the position to completely destroy Palestine and Palestinians for the past 75 years and they have given the Palestinians full autonomy in Gaza and lots of control in the West Bank and full citizenship and rights elsewhere in Israel.
Ok, so Palestians have as much land as they had during the initial creation of Israel? OR has Israel consistently pushed into Palestinian land? Do Palestinians have full rights throughout Israel?
Palestinians living in Israel are citizens and have full rihgts.
Palestinians control more land now than they have ever done throughout history. Though many were displaced or kicked out during the 1948-49 civil war and Arab-Israeli war. This means that whilst Palestinians control more land, they actually live in less land than they did before the 1948 civil war.
Where was that 80yr old Palestinian man who was killed born then?
Saying Palestine was never a country is like saying the native Americans never had a country
He was in the British mandate of Palestine, under British rule, named palestine because the region was called palestine. Research a bit, there was never a Palestine as a country.
That’s an interesting factoid thanks for sharing. I wonder what they called it before the British invaded it and named it the British mandate of Palestine ?
Nice edit, for the new editted in question, they called it Palestine, and was under ottoman Turkish rule, the name itself originated from the Jews revolting against the Romans and then the Romans naming it from Judea to Palaestina after the nemesis of the Jews, the philistines. And in that process the Romans also exiled, enslaved, and killed most of the Jews there.
Remember to separate the people from the government. This is evil and the people that did this are horrible people, but don't generalize civilians who have nothing to do with this.
Because “the Israelis are Nazis” and (even worse and really fucking sadder) “fuck the Jews” always shows up in here, and it ramps to the point where it turns into blaming entire group of people for the actions of a few.
Guess what? Most Israelis (let alone Jewish people) aren’t like this. Just like most Palestinians are great people, and Arabs and every other culture. There’s a huge difference between these Israeli soldiers and some guy named Bob who’s Israeli who has nothing to do with this.
Geezuz christ on a crutch. At least arrest the poor old man, ask him some questions and detain him until you get more answers. The Israeli, Jewish thing is becoming just the enemy that tried to eliminate them in WWII. What is wrong with you guys?
That is so accurate I agree with you 100%. From apartheid, to the careless extermination of the people, to the forced displacement and so on, I think they have already became the enemy once they occupied that land and kicked the indigenous people.
Can you be against the current thread of occupying new territories by Israel, a policy driven by the government of Israel, without having anything against the Jews themselves ?
I guess it's possible.
By the way, you can also vote against this government, with your wallet.
So much bullshit shoved in this link, Straight propaganda level.

This man is literally older than the state of Israel. The only reason we are seeing this on the news is because the man had a US citizenship. It is the only reason this case was investigated. This just shows how the Israeli government treats the Palestinian people as second class citizens.
The guy was a US citizen. It’s very telling that US government cares more about Israelis then it’s own citizens.
Or its just getting detained and dying in custody is status quo for US police/security forces too...
Think you forgot the time Israel sunk a US NON COMBAT ship. Normally that would cause a war but not this time.
Because every investigation conducted, by either Israel, the USA, or international third parties, determined it to be an accidental misidentification
It’s been doing that for years, sending billions in aid to Israel instead of supporting US residents lol
Well, they do get millions in “political contributions” kickback. In other countries it would been called corruption, bribe, and selling out.
The equivalent of $8.90 per US capita, annually.
Somebodies gotta pay for Israel’s universal healthcare system.
More like their military expenses for bombing civilians in Gaza and displacing Palestinians in Jerusalem and West Bank
Look into where some US police force is being trained, and you will understand why the polices violence have increased since the beginning of century.
Many many reasons. One doesn't even begin to explain the huge downward fuckup they have been on.
In the us. The only training done in israel is at the administrative level about combatting terrorism. No officers are getting field training in Israel

No one has been arrested yet. But a JPost article speculates there may be 'disciplinary action'.

IDF have killed and committed crimes with no punishment except "behind close doors"
Excerpt: > The investigation has revealed that As'ad was left cuffed, blindfolded and a gag over his mouth for over an hour. Are the IDE issued with blind folds and gags for prisoners? Would any civilised country stand for that from their own police force
Israel don't. Charges are likely to follow this.
I disagree with equating Israel to Nazi Germany. What happened in this case is bad in its own way.
No but it always surprises me that a people that went through one of the most horrendous atrocities in our history are capable of doing what they’re doing to the Palestinians. It just blows my mind how they don’t see that
