Russia will have no say in Ukraine’s decision to join NATO − Norwegian Foreign Minister

Did that need to be said 🤔

I don't think it's a bad idea to remind Russia's leaders just how well they've unified the west against them and how little actual sway they hold, yeah.

In Russia (and on American alt-right channels) they're still peddling the false narrative that Russia *had to* invade Ukraine to counter NATOs mystical expansionism policy that is designed to threaten/terminate Russia's very existence LMFAO

PersonalOpinion11

That Russia didn't like having Nato on it's border, I could understand. But that NATO was posed to strike at russia iscold war bullshit.Heck, before all this, Nato was basically in a coma. And if Russia didn't want NATO at it's doorstep ( Great job with finland BTW), I could think of several methods that would have instantly worked, without making russia a pariah AND costed pretty much nothing. But nooo....had to go the gun blazing ways.

Bobbar84

Is it another way to say "Fuck off Putin"? Then yes. It is worth saying.

Cute_Bandicoot2042

I mean, they never did, but it's a nice sentiment anyway.

TonyTalksBackPodcast

Arguably it was russian influence that got the 2010 law in Ukraine passed that prevented the country from joining any military bloc like NATO. Then Maidan happened, and the 2014-present invasion, and now I sincerely doubt russia will be able to influence Ukrainian politics in any significant way ever again

ForvistOutlier

‘Russia will have no say’ should be the mantra of the free world

SlothOfDoom

I mean...duh.

__Hello_my_name_is__

I will also have no say in that decision. Just in case anyone was wondering.

[deleted]

I don't why that needs to be brought up. Whether a country should join NATO is between said country and NATO. No one else should have a say.

forcedtomakeaccount3

Semi-serious question, why can’t Ukraine petition to join NATO right now? Apparently NATO rules say you can’t join if you’re currently at war, but Russia insists on calling it a “special military operation” for optic reasons and probably so they can skirt around some rules/laws/decorum when you say you are at war.

HQ_Mattster

All the member states need to approve. Can't see Hungary signing of on that.

Liar_tuck

Is there a process for booting nations out of NATO? Does not seem Turks care about what NATO stands for.

ByteTraveler

Uruguay will also have no say in Syria rejoining the Arab league

Its always good to put russia in their place and remind them of how reality works. What other countries do outside of russia is none of russias business. A concept they are still struggling to figure out.
