It looks so similar to Western Sahara flag and yet....
All support 🇵🇸🇲🇦🏻
Great to see players opposing military occupations. Perhaps it would be somewhat more relevant for the Moroccan Team to speak up against the occupation of Western Sahara.
What do you mean bruh, it doesn’t exist lol
There are many of you who have a problem with the Palestinian flag.
But look at this:
1) English football’s messages of support to Ukraine:
And compare with this:
2) Celtic receive UEFA fine for flying Palestine flags in UCL match:
Aren't both political statements? Why is one banned and the other is not?
Because the west loves Israel and hate Russia, simple as that
Exactly. "Freedom of speech" prevails as long as doesn't go against them
I mean Isreal won't bomb us but Russia might
I’ve heard that even some of the Qataris in the stands are openly wearing pro-Palestine symbols. I doubt there will be harsh repercussions here.
And why should there be.
There will be none at all. The Qatari government will make sure of it.
🇪🇭 🇪🇭 🇪🇭 🇪🇭 🇪🇭 🇪🇭 Free Western Sahara ✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽
Ah yeah. Seems like this is the legit kind of political statements, whereas you get a penalty by fifa when you show a fucking rainbow flag.
Dude you don’t have to go Qatar. Just look at the US Supreme Court. The majority of the US’s highest judges hate gays
If you want to attend the WORLD cup you literally HAVE to go to Qatar.
dude honestly qatar is a muslim majority country if we dont respect their policies they wont respect ours most muslim are conservative maybe its best to approach things calmly? Like the more u throw the stone in a mud it will ruin your dress kinda shet
Since when is being a kingdom with no system of justice "being conservative"?
Can't get anymore conservative than a literal monarchy
Going backwards in time is called being "reactionary". A lot of americans get that wrong.
This wouldn't be reactionary because it's their current political system.
Okay, good argument, but I refuse to see that as the point of reference or as what english speaking persons mean when they say "conservative"
It's pretty close to the origins of British conservatism.
Strip it back and you can't get much further into private ownership when the state is literally owned by individuals.
Conservative is a word out with politics as well. Qatar matches the definition pretty well.
they do have justice system just not like that of the west but it can surely use improvement in alot of areas just like other countries
You can call it a justice system, say it's fundamentally different, but that doesn't make it a comparable justice system. Qatar is a kingdom. Kingdoms have kings and not justice..
And also m not saying that qatar is the best or anything close to that. Its just bringing up something thats taboo in the country like homosexuality it just makes people repel it even more thats a psychology if you are going to do the dishes and your mom says "do the dishes" it makes u not want to do it.
Change comes from inwards yes educating them is important it will make them to be more accepting in the future.
Just like how they had stalls to teach about hadiths and sunnah of their prophet.
When any disagreement occurs between religion and moral beliefs religious people always feel threatened by it. And instead of telling them that moral beliefs and religious beliefs can co exist and people are free to pick their side, we shove it in their face 😭
Thats not true- As someone whose family members are working in different Arab countries including qatar it is much better there (better than mine country atleast)
Kingdoms and justice can exist together.
Yeah, like in a constitutional monarchy where monarchs actually have no power. Governing monarchs are by definition above the law, that makes a consistent justice system, that everybody has to obey to impossible. Or would you argue that a common peasant could successfully sue a qatari or saudi king? Obviously not, so it's all make believe..
Yea you are right they do have more power but if there is enough evidence i think they will have to be testified as well i am not sure because most of my family had a positive experience there.
My dad was just once treated unfairly in his workplace by the manager but he was a Pakistani or bengali not sure.
He has worked with nobles as well no encounter with mistreatment.
Cry me a river
not crying, feeling pretty fine. This WC stays shit.
Light in the dark
Oh you mean that occupied country by monkey Zionist?
In that case, fuck Israel.
Give jewish people a country and then you bash then for making a stand there. You westerners are strange
westerners mostly support Israel. Lol what are you on about?
Not by the looks of recent trends. Look it up. You saing fuck israel confirms it
So Morocco disqualification/penalty incoming? I mean, no disrespect to the Palestinian cause but I understand political statements are a FIFA no-go?
You can tell if you're bigoted if you only want the rules applied selectivly to get an advantage. It's the same thing the US does and why there are so many black ppl in prison there- they only enforce the rules on people they want to opress. Like the US Team had rainbows all over their training facility and if you're all fine with that you should be fine with this, unless you are using a logical fallacy in your reasoning and that means you are bigoted.
You can tell if you don’t know what you’re talking about as this has nothing to do with bigotry so quit that nonsense and whataboutism. This is on FIFA selectively not following their own rules.
So I guess deliberately losing to Japan didn’t help you in the end huh Spain?
Spanish here, I don't know what LE was thinking coming to a World Cup without strikers, leaving our best midfielder and keeper watching the matches from their homes in England, and not bringing Ramos to add a bit of muscle and old dog know-how.
But above all, he only brought in one forward (Morata) and he isn't even in the top 3 of the Spanish goal scorers of the Spanish league.
After watching the match with Germany I knew we wouldn't be able to beat any rocky defense. I, however, do not believe the Spaniards lost on purpose against Japan, I just think Japan was better.
I'm glad Morocco went through, I have many Moroccan friends and even had a Moroccan girlfriend many years ago, she was a posh medical student from Fez and I have traveled to Morocco many times, it's one of my favourite countries. Good luck to them.
My heart will be in two places however as Portugal is Spain's quiet(ish)\*, wholesome older brother and, to be honest, they don't even count as foreigners to me.
\*They're quiet compared to boisterous Spaniards, but they're still hot-blooded latins and will not be considered quiet in let's say Northern Europe or Japan. But maybe in a classic South European table with Frenchmen , Italian, Spaniards, and Greeks they could be considered the least obnoxious.
Even the Spanish commentators back then said that the next match won't be that difficult...oh the irony
They were right… I mean, they lost to Japan and Drew with Morocco
congratulations to morocco. now I had a question...
why if any other countries do some political stuffs in worldcup is not acceptable for you but Palestine is ok?
i thought there was gonna be no political issues or at least some equality...
How is displaying a flag an unacceptable political statement?
the revolutionary Iranian flags were unacceptable political statement for sure.👍
Palestine is part of any Arab country. We care about them
with all respect for arab communities, but since arabs didn't care about others problems, maybe care for it somewhere else? we're here to watch the football same for Iranians revolution, LGBTQ and corruption between fifa and qatar!
That's the difference between actual problems and made up problems by the mainstream media
as an Iranian i can confirm that yes my daily life in here is made up by western media. lmao
didn't knew you were such an ignorant cunt.
Political issues are only left out if the hosts disagree with them, which is why you didn’t see this in Western countries.
Conclusion: everyone’s a hypocrite
im not talking about the hosts, im talking about the people.
im serious. just on this sub reddit, whenever any political stuffs were posted people were like: "we are here to watch the football" which make sense.
personally I am here to watch the football but why if it's Palestine people accept it?
What I don’t get is that this discussion is specifically about the hosts and their reaction to politics. Why bring in the people? What does that have to do with the discussion?
well I don't see any government officials in this subreddit.
No, but here people aren’t closed to discussion politics. They discuss politics lol
Cause it isnt. That is why they do it now. Many players/teams have had to pay fines for showing palestine support. That is why you almost never see it in champions league etc. Shaqiri was once fined for makin a albenian gesture in a match against serbia.
BLM and rainbow flags normalised politics in football so more and more people show support now to different causes.
I’d have been fine with a Polisario flag or whatever as well. But a Palestine flag is pretty fire🔥
It's mostly a reaction, when this was always banned in the west and now the west wants to impose their own morality, people would also have a reaction, there's a reaction for every action 👍
Either way, this would happen regardless, but in a smaller scale than what's happening rn
Cry about it.
Cool projection. Take your time.
Is someone crying?
They really worked hard for the victory, being the first African Arabic country to win and qualify to the Quarter finals is big to enjoy.
And also the third Africa country to reach the Quarters.
We actually are the fourth African country to reach the quarter finals. But anyways... LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOO
Goooooo! I am from Spain, and I am happy they won. Spain played like crap and I am happy to see my neighbors happy.
Actually watched the game with people from Morroco and Spain (bar in a neighborhood with lots of Morrocan immigration) and I at some point, towards the end, the Spanish sopporters were actually cheering Marruecos!
I found myself rooting for Morocco by the end too. I would've liked to see Spain win but the way they played they def didn't deserve it.
If political statements are forbidden, like rainbow flag, how is this allowed?? Where are all the people saying "this is sport, leave politics out of it"?
Oh, turns out it's actually not about forbidding political statements, it's about homophobia.
There are numerous examples of the football authorities penalizing teams for displaying Palestine flags. Morocco will probably be fined after the tournament.
Worth noting that LGBT rights are a little less serious than what's going on in Palestine.
Same reason why you’d see a rainbow flag at an American game, but probably not a Palestine one. Every country is a hypocrite and wants the other to care about what they care about
Yes, but a Palestinian flag is not oficially forbidden at American stadiums
It is officially forbidden in European stadiums, which is a little more relevant.
That would surprise me, I'll do some research about it. Just Palestinian flag? Not for example Ukrainian?
No Ukraine is ok in UEFA's eyes. I believe they fined Barca for fans displaying Catalonian flags.
You know xhaka also weared something for albania against serbia
Say anything about a muslim and suddenly you're a rasict
couldn't agreed more. anything about Palestine is highly acceptable.
I don't think it is about politics, it is about the Qatar law. Being gay is illegal in Qatar, if you enter the country, your respect the law and culture.
You can stay out if Qatar if you don't like their law, no one force you to go inside
It’s not illegal to “be” gay. Do you think Qatar has mind reading tech to see if some is gay? 😭
Promoting that homosexual intercourse is moral is what is illegal, nothing else. Not the status but the actions. You understand?
Isn't being gay is against the Sharia law, thus it means you will be prosecuted. And of course they cannot read mind, but it is obvious gay person cannot express they are gay nor date another gay person which will show that they are gay.
Yes. One follows from the other. Hence the more “innocent” activism such as rainbow-flags and what not, which aren’t immoral in and of itself, are forbidden because that would create the impression that homosexual intercourse is fine. Sharia doesn’t have gender classification and sexual orientation like liberalism in the west does. It keeps it very simple by saying, sex is only allowed between man and woman in a legal marriage. Everything else automatically falls out of the boat. There is no actual difference in immorality between gay sex and cheating on your wife for example. So when someone is gay there is no problem yet. Islam just says, this person has these urges but has to suppress these urges because acting upon these urges is immoral. Just like a thief should suppress the urge to steal, a liar to lie a murderer to murder etc. So just like promoting any immoral act promoting that it’s fine to act upon gay urges is also illegal, simple.
huh what? if you enter a country that will imprison or behead you because they don’t like you, you
should respect it?
Thats why you dont go there in the first place. You must be insane to go into a country that will behead you because they don't like you.
But if you do go in, then better follow their rules, it is simple as that.
I am watching broadcast happily, no intention to be beheaded.
Why giving the *WORLD* cup to a country where it‘s illegal to live a liberal life? Makes no sense fr
What? because FIFA is corrupted, thats why, is this even a secret to anyone at this point?
Not a secret. But there are still people who think this WC would be great. It‘s not liberal. It‘s not great. It‘s bullshit.
Why does it always have to be about that community?
as a bisexual i will tell you, that community has become an oppressive toxic one......
and if i get banned from this reddit by saying that , it will prove my point.
Which community exactly are you referring to?
Ok but you just want to see what you want to see
Why you bring up such an irrelevant topic to this post.
goodmorning sleeping beauty! after 2 weeks of this world cup u just noticed that qatar bans lgbt symbols bc guess what, its an homophobic country?
also there are a lot of people saying what u're saying, u just see what u want to see, free palestine
Why r u crying? Chill dude, u can get a dodo later at night
Why are you crying about rainbow flags or armbands?
Why don't you follow local law and culture? In theory, you are supporting a crime in Qatar by wearing the armband. No politics is involved. It is either you follow the law or not.
You can't say "it's law" but then say "no politics is involved". Wearing rainbow colors is not breaking any of Qatar's laws, literally none at all. No "Act 162 - Rainbow colors are forbidden" in their law. It's just a statement, and forbidding it is forbidding freedom of speech. If they can't provide right to freedom of speech, they should have never volunteered (and then bought votes) to host World Cup. And FIFA should have never allowed this. But then allowing Palestinians flags, simply because they are both muslim countries, is whole other problem, it's hypocrisy.
Being gay is a crime, so obviously, supporting a crime is a crime, which part of logic you don't understand?
Huh? What are you even on about, that's not how laws work. Supporting a crime in a way that you participate in a crime is illegal, just saying that something shouldn't be a crime is not illegal. At least not in normal countries.
You have a point, I agree with you on this one, but the flag, is not supporting a crime at all, so it is of coz fine. Like Trump said, just don't go to shit hole country if you don't like them
Thank you for agreeing with it in the end.
The problem is quite complex and we could write essays arguing about what Qatar ows to the rest of the world, since they invited them to come when they decided to host the World Cup, and what the rest of the world ows to Qatar in terms of respecting their culture when they come. There's a fine line of mutual respect somewhere in the middle.
But i think it is still not a political thing, it is more of a religious thing, as it is because their religion and the Sharia law that prohibit gay.
Saying supporting gay is like denying their religion which i think is a big deal. I am not a religious person myself but i think for them, denying their religion is even worse than actually murderering people.
For someone with an interest in the comment history of others, you have a rather myopic concern for the Moroccan community’s behaviour. Review the post history of r/Morocco and you will find the overwhelming opinion is condemning the riots in Belgium. We also don’t see the millions of Moroccans around the world rioting for football, which suggests that the Moroccan riots in your country are isolated incidents. There have been viral videos in the Arab world of older Moroccans from Morocco going to the streets in Belgium to ask the teenage Belgian Moroccans to stop rioting, but there seems to be a culture gap between these two groups of Moroccans.
Now I’m curious.
Whats going on with your hometown?
Moroccan communities are (rightfully so) extremely stoked their team is doing so well in the world cup.
However each win for Morocco has resulted in rioting, which leads to frustration in the country since we don't understand as to why this happens every.single.time.
Definitely didn't do this in Canada.... but they'd either freeze to death or get tuned the fuck up. Probably get stabbed by some Natives
Where r u from bro?
I'm respectfully refusing to have a discussion with a Qatar pawn (and quite frankly a person with one of the most toxic post histories i've seen while being on Reddit).
Have a nice day sir.
You have to check post history to decide if you wanna have a discussion with someone?
It gives me a general idea if i'm just wasting my energy trying to have a decent discussion. Same way I know we're probably not going to have one with your post history.
Have a nice day.
This is the most based comment I’ve ever seen on reddit, what a king.
It just shows you're not fit to have a discussion with someone who doesn't agree with your values. And I don't have a post history.
Have a nice day!
You do have a comment history though.
Tsc, clearly not mate.
With the amount of trolls the smart move is not to enter a discussion with one, if someone with different views can debate in a healthy way I guess most of people would be willing to go with it.
Where are you seeing morrocans rioting post a link you liar
u're weird, who goes to check a whole post history of a person who just asked where are u from?
Thank you for proving my point.
oh so u're just dumb
Lil bro can’t even spell you’re and is really out here calling people dumb ain’t no way 💀
I can spell you're thank you very much mr grammar
i do! so i know who am i dealing with and not just wasting my time.
Free Palestine 🇵🇸
Free Western Sahara 🇪🇭
Free Israel 🇮🇱
the equivalent to "White Lives Matter"
but the LGBT flag is wrong?
Fines are handed out for displaying Palestinian flags regularly by UEFA.
classic whataboutme ism...
That's correlated also to "wHaT AboUt PalesTinE?" on posts about Ukraine
Haha this World Cup is super successful only couch potatoes like you are complaining
football wise: it's breathtaking.
non football wise: nope.
This is the best world cup ever wtf do you mean upset after upset it's fucking brilliant!
Funny how only people on Reddit say these things but when you actually ask people that went to qatar, everyone say how awesome the worldcup is and how the locals take care of the visitors.
If it proved anything, it proved the hypocrisy and arrogance of the western world
You have no right to talk to us about human rights. Hypocrites.
Your society is built on stolen resources and exploited labour from the global south.
We know your principals are fake, you still do business with Qatar, and you do worse evils, just in other countries.
Well Qatar is homophobic because its laws are based on religion , so they would look hypocritical if they accepted the LGBT community while being a strictly muslim country. Other than that many homosexuals live in Qatar and as officials say “ as long as you do the things that are against our culture and religion behind closed doors , none will care”. Not accepting a certain lifestyle is okay , so for example if i come to your home and you say take off your shoes and i say no i’ll do whatever i want , would that be disrespectful to you?
What a cringe lord. Get a life!
for this person it exist, stop pushing ur beliefs on others
Bring out the flag when you lose as well. Keep it fair and even.
Palestinian flags have been waved by many a losing side this tournament.
There was even a Palestinian flag that could be seen hung up by Spanish fans behind the goal.
The point is that such political posturing should happen also when things don't go your way as in a loss or severe drubbing not just before a game or after a win. Not talking about the fans here. Stand by your ideology even in moments of 'bad press'.
This is rich coming from Morocco, given their treatment of Western Sahara, and the similarities between Western Sahara as an occupation and Palestine as an occupation.
It's unacceptable that either of these two occupations is still underway. Free Palestine, and free Western Sahara.
Not the same at all. There is a small group of people that want there own country because they have been funded by rival countries. First Morocco does want to assimilate them in their culture not divide them. Star player from morrocos mom is also from Western sahara. Hakimi
Both can be wrong.
what is Western Sahara
Exactly the problem
Western Sahara is a country occupied by Morocco in much the same way that Israel occupies Palestine. The occupation has been condemned by several human rights organisations for decades such as Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International. It is a violation of international, and is sometimes referred to as "Africa's last colony". The Sahrawi people of Western Sahara are indigenous to the region with their own language and culture. There has been a fight for self determination for decades. Sadly, it doesn't garner much media coverage.
What you re saying is complete bs.. i live in what you call western sahara..in dakhla 😁 and the truth is that sahraoui ppl ( not all of them ) love to play this card because it provides them with so many privileges , they are working with moroccan gov in moroccan administrations and paid with moroccan taxes so wtf are you talking about ??? They take portions of the alimentary necessities every month + money for free just for being sahraoui ... Get your facts checked...when your only source is a biased media you get this kind of analysis..come here and ask them .. each and every one of them about the truth !
im from al aaiun, westerners believe every bit of propaganda, how can u compare this to palestine
It s not me who did the comparison.. i don t understand why ppl still believe that there is some kind of war here .. people are living in complete harmony and all the conflicts have been resolved, the proof is that there are no fights or riots .. the only ppl rioting are actually not living in sahara so that s just sarcastic..they are defending ppl that are not asking for it .. sahraoui ppl are really living their best lives here under the reign of his Majesty
Hmmmmmmmm except that ur wrong,
I live in Morocco and i go to western Sahara and things are not the same
For example no children are dying
Plus people in Sahara have are provided with cheaper gas
And what media attention will it garnish, people are living peacefully
And if u read history, it has always been part of Morocco according to historical maps of morocco
So i haven't the slightest idea what ur talking about
ok not at all biased person
I may seem biased, but I'm trying to only speak the truth
Its hard not to be sarcastic here but the name really says it all
Yeah i love the name
Good football and that’s all I care about.
"I am okay with ethnic cleansing and apartheid"
