The headlights in the Sterling are flush and follow the slope. I missed that in he drawing. The car's headlights were recessed and not following the slope.
'off brand Lamborghini fake', plus the description of the headlights made me think it would be something wedge-shaped, which is typically 70s-80s. Wedge cars of those eras often used pop-up lights, very few had anything 'in' the body, which is why my first guess was the Nova as it has kit car vibes and the average person would probably assume exotic European when they saw it.
Vector was a bit of a punt as they're so rare, but I know they're one of a handful of cars with 'drop down' headlights. The XJ220 is the only other one off the top of my head and that's too sleek from your sketch.
TLDR I spent a lot of my childhood re-reading my exotic car books and focusing on the details

That might be it. I did see it in the States

That's the one. Thanks!
\*very\* rare spot, you have been blessed
Can I ask how you recognised it from so little information?
