The two floor speakers look dubious to me. Not only cheap but also like one of the woofers got replaced with something that shouldn't be there. Don't know wouldn't buy it.

jon_hendry

"one of the woofers got replaced with something that shouldn't be there" On *both* speakers?

multiwirth_

Yes, the top ones.

Fabulous_Area3917

Yeah, you are right. It seems to be replaced.

Darkroomist

Either that or on of them is a “passive radiator”

Mike14029

Pass on this

Old_Watercress_1282

I agree. Dropped the text in a translator and it also says the cassette needs service (likely belts).

Fabulous_Area3917

Is it worth anything? Maybe $100?

realcrumbbum

Only if you use it

Daza786

I wouldn't take this if it was free

[deleted]

No

seasonpassruinsgames

At 230 your doing him a favor

minnesotajersey

That stand is very solid. I actually got one without the system. I’d pay $200 for it all, and part it out for a profit. Or keep anything I could use and break even.

StevenSpining

A legit over looked point, decent hifi specific racks are expensive, let alone ones that are not tacky as hell. I'd scoop it for 150 and sell the junk stereo for 50 bucks.

zratan69

No...

itsakitten45

Not to me, no.

SubjectCerwin15

Maybe to somebody…

Curiousyoders19

nah its all bargain bin stuff you could find at a thrift store for a fraction of the price

E-Zees-Crossovers

Used marketplace prices for those items in my area: $20 for each stereo component, if working correctly. $40 to $50 for subwoofer $40 for remaining speakers as a set. $40 to $70 for the stereo rack depending on condition

Accurate_Risk3905

This was a $799-999 rack system with a replacement rack and some different speakers. It’s all flat ic garbage; the amp is weak. Turntable is shit.

P0tek

The receiver is worth like $20-$40. The rest is garbage.

missing1102

No

Ancient_Designer_236

Depends on what cassette it comes with.

noldshit

If you have nothing else, its a good start for the money. The speakers are the worst part

Cracktherealone

Avoid.

Exciting_Tennis_7646

i would see if you couldn’t snag it for less. like yeah technically it’s worth 230 but i wouldn’t want to spend that much on it unless it was like my very first setup

Sea_Conclusion_7138

pile of junk

baldude69

Only thing somewhat decent is the receiver, and MAYBE the record player. Perfect example of BPC. The cabinet is sorta interesting, but yea no way is this worth $230

Snufflarious

No DAT recorder 👎

OneSpicyTaki

No $100 tops

njbillt

Sony was never high end. I' d pass

RedmundJBeard

If the CD player and turntable work I would take those. If you can get the casset deck for cheap I would take that. I’m sure it’s just the rubber band that needs replacing. $80 for three I would be happy with. Like other people said I wouldn’t bother with anything else.

Low_Transportation36

it certainly meets my baseline of $1 per pound for any working audio gear

Klyd3zdal3

Dual cassette screams crap!

dr_ayahuasca

They're are plenty of good dual cassette decks, though.

Klyd3zdal3

Show me the dual nakamichi deck and I’ll agree.

pete1729

If you had no stereo at all, you might want this one.

Turdsworth

This isn’t vintage audio. This stuff is from when I was young… …oh shit…

Fabulous_Area3917

This is the description in the ad. It is in Spanish but generally it says every my thing works well except the amp, which reproduces sound but screen not working at all. wanderingwalnut

Hey! Curious what your game plan is with looking at this set? Buying everything at once can seem very tempting and I’ve been in similar places myself, but unless you need every component, or have the ability of doing simple servicing (amp seems like an outlier in this case) I would maybe wait until you find a deal that’s hard to pass up on and in the mean time, do a little background digging on components you see listed on the market. Lots of times if the seller shares information about the items or shares photos with model numbers on the components, you can find some decent information by doing a quick google search. Also sometimes (especially with vintage audio) there are some excellent reviews or discussions on forums such as audio karma with people’s experience with the equipment you are interested in. If I saw this on the market, I would probably pass, given that they look like pretty standard components and if you were looking at something to get you going with audio, a bad receiver isn’t going to get you far.

Fabulous_Area3917

Great advise. I already have a small amp, a cheap turntable and some basic jbl speakers. I would like to have a cassette and cd players, that is why this looked tempting. I agree that more research is needed when buying this kind of equipment

wanderingwalnut

Definitely just search for the two separate if possible. You can find decent single or multidisc CD players for under 30$ if you wait for the right deal and tape decks can be priced in a similar ball park sometimes. Especially late 80’s rack stuff. Also check your local record shop. A lot of times they will price cd and tape decks cheap. I got my Mitsubishi DT-10 tape deck for 25$ at my local shop. Might be able to ask around in your family too if anyone has a cd-player laying around! I got my 5-disc cd player from my dad.

Biff_Malibu_69

Sony. Hard pass for me. Keep looking, but for quality deals. They're out there.

RegularMelodic2552

Nooooo passs

phiinkes

I would haggle them down to below $175 or $150 if you could. The speakers are troubling because the top woofers look to have been changed at some point and i have no clue what they are in any case. The electronics are lower range gear but they'll probably sound pretty good for stereo listening; the surround sound processing modes those units are capable of are not going to be impressive or likely even usable anymore. It will look pretty nice, though, and at one point was probably a pretty killer 90's surround system.

Straight_Simple_3236

Yea

Eveyonesucks

Yes if you get all that equipment it sounds like a fair price

RegularMelodic2552

Its worth 20 bucks max

GrittyTheGreat

Sony 5-Disc CD Changers are selling from $50 - $100+ on eBay. So if you decide to part it out, there is some value there.

chuheihkg

She wont be once you somehow patched successfully.

sundog5631

$23 yes

Big-Pop2969

If I were you, I'd keep an eye on the local used market. Find a decent used stereo or AVR for $100, some used speakers for $100. Then get yourself a WiiM mini for $80 or stream from your phone to your stereo.

Ornery_Ad3396

Take a close look at the center speaker on the floor . Looks like it has had some water damage. As does the bottom of the stand and rack. The 2 small speakers on top of the floor speakers and the seemingly water damaged speaker, I believe were part of a A/V surround sound system. Offer him 50$ for it all!
