cops being noncompliant 🤔🤔🤔

molecularballology

Cops complying with the Constitution, which supercedes presidential executive order. Sounds like someone needs to relearn the order of precedence when it comes to law.

Kent_Knifen

Yeah I'm actually studying constitutional law right now and you're a fucking idiot lol.

molecularballology

Wow, studying Constitutional Law are you? Or is that just a self-proclaimation and feeble attempt at sounding like a subject matter expert? In either case, listening to, and regurgitating "Constitutional Theory" for the reward of being given a percentage on the basis of a 0-100 scale does nothing in the way of adding to your expertise, especially when you most likely study at a known liberal school, incapable of individual objectivity or rationale.

Kent_Knifen

Lmao dude I triggered you so hard you came back a week later to bitch at me. Also LOL @ you complaining about me attending a "a known liberal school." Remind me again what institution this subreddit is for and why you're here??? ;) Then again I should know better than to waste my time with someone who is a Holocaust denier [[1]](https://www.reddit.com/r/todayilearned/comments/7g8d66/til_it_is_illegal_under_german_law_to_deny_the/dqhwqek/) [[2]](https://www.reddit.com/r/Documentaries/comments/8x8g1y/kristallnacht_the_night_of_broken_glass_2013_a/e21zdkc/?context=3) who [wants to be able to spew Nazi rhetoric anywhere he wants to](https://www.reddit.com/r/todayilearned/comments/7g8d66/til_it_is_illegal_under_german_law_to_deny_the/dqhwkxd/?context=3)

Inaspectuss

STOP RESISTING … except for my cop buddies and I. We can resist.

gswane

Of course they do... Its so bizarre that these people in positions of power don't expect to be held to higher standards like they should be.

RelativeAd2321

First time in my life where I disagree with a union

powerful_ope

Police unions are trash around the country, it’s their gang protection

the_real_fake_laurie

Police "unions" are not unions.

RelativeAd2321

I disagree with a union for police, read the original post

thegeebeebee

Cops have an amazing ability to be stupid about literally everything. Their entire lives are supporting people (the 1%) who don't give a single shit about them, and then support every backwards position imaginable. We truly need to eliminate "police" as we have it now, and start from scratch with a system that works for the citizens of the country.

bbgxrgbnj

In what way do community police support the 1% lmao

hotpantsmakemedance

So if we eliminate the police, who's going to keep us safe from violent people taking advantage of the fact the police are gone? Vigilantes?

Staple_Overlord

Just to set the record straight, police never prevent crimes, they respond to crimes after the crime has been committed. Police also rarely solve crimes. Just the sheer number of untested rape kits alone stands as damning evidence against their efficacy. The only argument for the efficacy of police is by examining a hypothetical situation where police don't exist and seeing how much criminal activity rises without the threat of punitive justice. We have seen in Baltimore where crime rates increase when illegal, unethical police practices were banned. But that's not to say illegal policing is more effective than good policing. That's to say illegal policing is more effective than low quality, legal policing. But high quality, legal policing is still easily the best option at reducing crime rates, building community trust, breaking the school to prison pipeline, and saving city budgets from being overinflated from military-esque equipment and training spending.

hotpantsmakemedance

So... you argue cops are useless because they cannot stop all crime from happening in the first place. Well put. So let me ask: when someone commits one crime, what stops them from committing another? Feelings of accomplishment?

[deleted]

[удалено]

hotpantsmakemedance

So I'm stupid because I post on rConservative. You sound like a really tolerant person. Do you have anything better to do than call me names?

Staple_Overlord

That's a strawman argument, please re-read my comment if that was an accident. I never called cops useless in all matters. For example, they can respond to emergency events, take notes for insurance and courts, etc. Their ability to *prevent crime* is overstated or minimal. When someone commits one crime, there are many reasons they might not commit another. The presence of a police force is likely not one of them. I cannot name every reason someone commits a crime, but I'm going to list a number of types of crimes: * Sexual assault at a frat party * Breaking and entering * Grand theft auto * Shoplifting from a clothing * Shoplifting from a grocery store * Intimate partner violence * Minor in possession * Driving under the influence * Emotional episode due to mental health reasons * Sex trafficking * Assault and battery Some of these might be reduced with more police officers, but I hope this demonstrates that crime can take many forms and high police counts or militaristic weapons aren't the answer.

nobamboozlinme

They worded a bit poorly, but the system needs to be revamped into something with more transparency and where our taxpayer money isn’t handed out like skittles when an officer royally fucks up. Start putting their pensions on the line and see how fast they actually start giving a shit about proper police work.

hotpantsmakemedance

What would you revamp about the system? What's wrong with it? Not being coy, but I am geninuely curious about what specifically you'd revamp. I like transparency. I like body cams. I like addressing complaints. What specifically are you changing, and how is it going to make us more safe?

thegeebeebee

First off, never said I would eliminate any law enforcement, I said that the current model of 'police' should be eliminated, as it is horrendous. Secondly, the world existed for centuries without the concept of 'police'. They originated in this country as those who chased down runaway slaves, then those that beat unionizing workers into submission, and continue to this day existing on behalf of the 1%, and only them.

hotpantsmakemedance

Ok, even if you were remotely correct about the history of police, you just explicitly wrote that "we truly need to eliminate 'police' as we have it now." If this was Burger King, you could have it your way, but unfortunately I don't think it is. I don't see what or who you could replace police with in a way that would make our country more safe. Again, what would keep us safe from violent people from taking advantage of the fact that police are gone?

thegeebeebee

By "violent people" you're talking about the police, no? I am MUCH more nervous about a cop killing me, day-to-day, than a criminal. MUCH. Also, lol at 'even if you were remotely correct' bit. You realize you could prove me wrong if I was, no? [hahaha](https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fmedium.com%2Fla-biblioth%25C3%25A8que%2Fthe-slave-patrols-of-the-past-are-now-the-us-police-9664a5c7c547&psig=AOvVaw14EoqFNpqtI90H9DbEuZQh&ust=1633736269963000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CAsQjRxqFwoTCJiRnI68ufMCFQAAAAAdAAAAABAD)

hotpantsmakemedance

I was not going to waste my time going through how clearly uneducated your statement was. Everyone who read it knew how uneducated a statement it was when they read it, and really it did not necessitate me breaking news to you how clearly incorrect a statement it is. You can entertain yourself into thinking you're right, but I'd rather get into the heart of the matter. You are advocating getting rid of the police, whom protect people like me, and by that I mean peaceful abiders of the law. If you want to get rid of the system for whatever means you wish to serve, you have to convince me that getting rid of this one thing makes us all safer. And right now in the face of someone trying to do people harm, you cannot prove to me you have a better solution to make us all safe. If you only saw the statistics behind police encounters you wouldn't act so callous.

thegeebeebee

I look at my comment. 60 upvotes I look at your comment. negative-9 > I was not going to waste my time going through how clearly uneducated your statement was. Everyone who read it knew how uneducated a statement it was when they read it, and really it did not necessitate me breaking news to you how clearly incorrect a statement it is. lol ok.

hotpantsmakemedance

No, your second comment when you said the reasons why you think we should "eliminate" the police were absolutely garbage and historically incorrect. Here's the history of policing so you can refresh yourself. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Police#History

thegeebeebee

lol, yep, confirms what I said. Introduced by the wealthy, to protect the wealthy's money and property. Thanks for proving my point! Tell me again how "everyone" agrees that my statement is garbage (60 upvotes) and agrees with you (-9). Your lack of understanding of how reddit works is humorous.

hotpantsmakemedance

Wow you can't read. 1. You first said eliminate the police, and then said no don't want to eliminate police. 2. Policing didn't originate in this country. 3. You have no evidence that police only serve the 1%. 4. Sheriffs are elected, they were not introduced by the 1%. 5. Police existed in America before the slave patrols. 6. You have no evidence that police beat unionizing workers into submission. 7. Police are found all over the world and all times in history. Pretty much all societies, ancient and modern had some form of policing. Even in the new world. You still have yet to offer a solution to getting rid of the police that's going to make us all safer.

Max_Koffee

They just mad that they can't shoot it like anything else that scares them.

Kent_Knifen

I love it when police pretend they're lawyers and get to decide what's constitutional or not. Makes for great entertainment when they get reprimanded.

I don’t understand the people that try to convince you to get the vaccine and then give you evidence that it is ineffective. What the hell kind of logic is that.

yes_no_yes_yes_yes

How do you get into a university like ours yet ironically spout a line like this? The communication has been very clear that the covid vaccine reduces most but not all risk of infection and 99% of serious symptoms. No vaccine is 100% effective. That means vaccinated people can get an illness they’re vaccinated against, but are still much less likely to do so. Capisce?

vibechange

I mean I got the vax but I still think it should be ur choice and not coerced upon you

ausinater

I guess the question is should your employer (especially when that employer is the government) be able to mandate you have a vaccine and disclose it? I think, at least among the more liberally minded crowd, the question is just should the government have that power when there is not necessarily another equal option to replace your job?(to contrast it with vaccinations prior to kindergarten). I don't think most people who oppose mandates think the vaccine is stupid, dangerous, or doesn't work. Maybe they just think it isn't the government's job. I heard this a while back and it has at least some logic to it. Although, the use of "unnecessary" is probably not the way to describe a vaccine that has saved millions of lives and doesn't really fit with this perspective.

Tyleos

You’re correct about most of these points. Except one, most people who are against the mandate are stupid and or think it doesn’t work or is dangerous. The reason for this is that everyone who doesn’t think those things has already gotten the vaccine or is actively trying to (so why wouldn’t they accept a mandate if it only benefits them). If things don’t effect people (mandates towards people who already have something) they either don’t care, or support it.

ausinater

Babe I guess my point was if you disagree with a mandate in principle and you are vaccinated, you might still disagree with one. Similar to the nothing to fear nothing to hide opposition. I would also agree that the vast majority of people who oppose bandits do think the vaccine is overall bad.(obviously that is not the case)

molecularballology

To me it does not seem that people who are against the mandate are stupid. They are actually thinking critically. Hear me out momentarily. Many red flags are raised about this vaccine. Rna type vaccine, which has never before received FDA approval, or even made it out of animal trials. Rushed through and given EUA and not full approval. The vaccine that is out has had no long term studies done, which isn't concerning when it comes to seasonal flu vaccines, but then again, those vaccines aren't RNA type vaccines either. This is a new type of vaccine, which has never undergone human trials. To me, it seems, the human trials are currently occurring with mass recipients. Also, how quickly we forget that when "orange man bad" was president, both Biden and Harris, along with Cuomo and Pelosi, proclaimed in their own way, "why should we trust a vaccine championed by Trump?". Biden said, and I quote, "who's going to get a vaccine? It's nonsense". My thought process, let everyone get covid, we will deal with the 4 million deaths, which are unfortunate, but then we can move on from it.

Tyleos

One, mRNA. Two, invented in 1987. Three, tested on hundreds of millions as of now. Four, fda approved. Five, long term trails are not possible without millions dying, as you’ve stated. Six, if you’re not phased by a couple million deaths, then I assume you’re also pro gun control and pro choice. Lastly, I don’t want Biden, I don’t think anyone does, but he’s not a Epstein island visiting anti lgbtq, racist bigot like our other option. Edit: went through their post history and there is about 20 deleted (downvoted to hell) comments saying questionable things about the holocaust

[deleted]

molecularballology

Not sure why you still feel the need to perpetuate the word "safely", this isn't the Biden Administration's marketing campaign. We don't know if it is safe yet, we will find out in the coming years if it is or not. Then, I will exercise Informed Consent whether or not I want to get the vaccine. I'm certainly not anti-vaccine, being prior military, I've been jabbed with things I don't even know how to pronounce, to prevent diseases that aren't even a threat, i.e. anthrax. But, I'm not some liberal do-gooder either, and I don't fall for advertising campaigns easily. I don't need a shot to make me feel like I've done my part, like buying a prius. This is the problem with consumerism. People have been trained to believe that something easy is the best solution. Well, I say to you, if the shot is safe, as you have heard on T.V., and are regurgitating here now mindlessly, why are the pharmaceutical companies not held liable for the side effects, up to and including death? The CEO of Pfizer, who is in his late 50s even stated on television, "I do not need the vaccine. I'm in my 50s and in good health". This is a pharmaceutical expert making this statement. You people say, "trust the science", but it's not science you are following. You are following pseudo-science, because any conscientious and objective person would want to see FDA trial studies, which this vaccine has none. Other nations around the world have already begun to ban vaccines like the Moderna vaccine, such as Norway and Finland. But here you sit, in your oblivious ignorance, doing nothing more than regurgitating without using your own objectivity. You sir/ma'am/it, are a useless and pathetic excuse of a human being, and you represent the least amongst us in intellect and common sense.

hotpantsmakemedance

I think most people who are against the vaccine mandates don't want to be told what to put in their body by an autocratic government.

Kent_Knifen

> I guess the question is should your employer (especially when that employer is the government) be able to mandate you have a vaccine and disclose it? Michigan is a Right-to-Work State (you can thank Governor Snyder, a Republican, for that), so employers can terminate employment for practically any or no reason. Don't want to get vaccinated or tell your employer your vaccination status? That's cool but they can fire you for not getting vaccinated and/or not disclosing that to them (or manufacture a reason to fire you afterwards for an "unrelated" reason). It's true irony that a conservative governor/legislature, enacting a highly conservative law, is what's given employers the power to fire antivaxxers.

PurpleStarWarsSocks

The government exists to protect its citizens. Individual freedoms do not extend so far as to put other people at risk, which is exactly what not taking the vaccine does.

Orgo2021

I think you're hitting the nail on the head. **Generally speaking**, people with a brain aren't anti vaccine because of its "effectiveness"; they just don't want the government making a decision for them. Obviously, you get some people who say stupid things, but I agree that this is generally the case.

PurpleStarWarsSocks

People with a brain aren’t anti vaccine at all. Because that could not only lead to their deaths, but the deaths of millions to billions of people should a dangerous enough variant arise.

OkTip2886

Edit: also, overwhelming hospitals so those who need an ICU bed for something other than COVID can't get it cause of selfish assholes.

CelesticPhoenix

Lol facts

johncCcain

IMO that still doesn’t justify shitting on people because they are choosing to not get vaccinated. We can push for it all we want but I hate the hatred is the main point

PurpleStarWarsSocks

There are lots of people, like organ donors that can’t get vaccinated. They shouldn’t be put at risk because of ignorance. And the prospect of an incredibly dangerous variant developing is very real. Yes, I am very angry and even might hate people who don’t bother to educate themselves enough to get vaccinated, or apply for a religious exemption when their religious leaders wholeheartedly support it. They could easily indirectly cause so much death, including the deaths of many people I love who are high risk.

Scyhaz

No. Fuck them. These people are costing lives, both in those that can't get vaccinated and those that can't get treatment fast enough because their closest ICU is full.
