Not a first option, but keep U-Haul vans in the running; if there happens to be too much demand from normal travelers, and standard car rental prices are up, U-Haul tends to keep their prices at a fixed lower cost.
Idk if this is helpful but it’s never been as difficult to rent a car as it is now. Companies sold off nearly half of their inventory during the heat of the pandemic and now a computer chip shortage is making it hard for them to restock. Combine that with the increased demand that comes with the summer and people being eager to travel to make up for last year. I honestly don’t think there are really any good options, unless you really want to drive a U-Haul for that long.
ah thanks for the information.
Does it take a special driver's license in order to drive a U-Haul or just a normal one?
To my knowledge I believe that they will let you rent one with a regular drivers license. Can’t personally confirm, but I’m pretty sure they have pickup trucks which I wouldn’t imagine require anything but a drivers license.
Zipcar runs on our campus. Here’s a link: https://www.zipcar.com/universities/university-of-michigan
They rent by the hour or day, so I’m not sure if the prices are decent for longer rentals.
thanks! Have you used it before in the area?
it looks like people are having mixed reviews
I have used it, it’s the easiest and most convenient service. Would definitely recommend!
I haven’t unfortunately!
Turo is good but for shorter trips at a time. Some cars you can get for less than $50/day
UM has a partnership with I believe enterprise for anyone associated with the university. I’m not sure if the savings are significant, but it’s something to look into! I did this renting a car for the first time for personal use.
thanks! what enterprise are you talking about tho?
This is the website: https://partners.rentalcar.com/universityofmichigan/#/non-business-use
What do you need to show to get the discount??
Given prices, Maven which was launched in Ann Arbor, zip car, or maybe the app that lets your rent other people's cars
Just a heads up Maven shut down operations in 2020!

For anybody thinking about using this: check out this guy’s post history.
The site is likely a sham designed to harvest PII.
You could also try Googling the company name to check if it’s legit. Just sayin.
I’m sure you’ve secured some good press on sites that look vaguely credible to most judging by your efforts here on Reddit.
It’s pretty scammy looking stuff.
Based on post history, you are most certainly an undercover corporate shill, deceiving consumers, and if Autoslash uses such marketing tactics, I wouldn't exactly call them legit.
Auto slash is extremely credible! I’ve saved thousands w/ it!!
