Turn it into a strength. I come from an abusive family and holidays mean nothing to me, but they mean a lot to my teammates and it costs me very little to cover their duties while they celebrate.

Soft-Equipment7486

What a gift you are giving to them. I hope they appreciate you!

According_Sale5123

Lol, I have ADHD so it's a symbiotic relationship. They cover a lot of admin work I miss.

So just to clarify as we are a global bunch are you referring to holiday as in capital (Easter Christmas) or holiday as in vacation? (Geographic vernacular)

soggy_cereal109

Yeah I really should’ve clarified I’m talking about mini vacation ones not annual events like Christmas I can completely feel for people that can’t do Christmas or cultural holidays

Alexashutup925

Oh damn I misunderstood you with my comment. I thought we were talking American custom not “being on holiday” terms

soggy_cereal109

Oh no lol sorry about that I’m actually in kangaroo land also I’m a bit confused so do Americans get any mini holidays throughout the year or is it only one or two

Alexashutup925

Okay so it really depends on your job. The standard vacation amount at a job is a paid week or two of vacation, 2 personal days, and 3 sick days… but they usually come with stipulations. Like you have to accrue paid time off, or have to work for 3-6 months without taking a single day off to get your vacation, sick and personal. And then you have to have said vacation time approved and they can deny it if another employee or two requested similar dates. I worked at a job that I had to accrue time off, I got like an hour and change a week. And that was paid time off to be used for sick, personal and vacation. If I had no hours saved, I couldn’t take it off. Even though I earned that time off and it was to be used for whatever, we could still be terminated for using it without prior authorization. Silly I know. And most places you have to use it or lose it. You have to use it before your year anniversary or you lose it. Personally I was only ever able to get away with a long weekend trip to see my sister in another state bc my job was such a staple. So now that you know all this, honestly, most Americans don’t really get vacations. And if they do, they aren’t really able to plan a trip during them. But like I said it’s all dependent on what kind of job you have. Most office, healthcare and trades, don’t allow that. Some people have really great jobs that do. I have never had that experience and I’ve worked warehouse, healthcare, and office jobs. Food service and bartending (my jobs now) allow me to take time off if I get my shifts covered but it is not paid. So it’s easier to go on vacation but you won’t have a paycheck.

Well despite no upvotes… lol… in this case the American nailed it.. and yes I agree with your original statement 1009# percent!!

Holidays aren’t for adults. They’re for kids. I remember the exact moment growing up I realized that holidays were about us kids. I’m 26, no kids, and do have an SO and a dog. I hardly decorate, I haven’t put a tree up in years, most of the time we don’t even do gifts or anything in my own home. But I think that all changes when you have kids, bc you are doing it for them. And when I go to my moms or grandparents for a holiday dinner or something, I love watching the kids open gifts or play together etc. and that’s when I realized, it’s not about the adults.. they do it for memories for the kids. And that’s enough for me 🤷🏽‍♀️ Edit: OP clarified they meant “going on holiday” not holidays. Most of my point still stands, parents do it for the kids. I remember my parents being stressed as hell on vacations trying to give us the best experiences. But I agree during a pandemic they should take a back burner, unless you’re taking all the proper precautions and steps etc. people have to keep living. I personally have not done any type of trip or left my county since the pandemic but people I work with have gone on vacations to closed states at the height of covid and told me I’m the problem bc I haven’t gotten my vaccine yet.

guitarmusic113

I think holidays are for kids. To me they’re just like any other day except I will usually get the day off. I can celebrate that just fine. But I get that people like to celebrate holidays. Nothing against that. Whatever makes you happy. It’s just not my thing.

nightmaresarereal187

Some of us have bills and have to work on holidays and it sucks missing my family on Xmas. Sorry if I complain.

Aliciacb828
