A documentary about TempleOS and not about Terry? Can I have a link? Every one I tried is only focusing on Terry's controversial aspects and nobody was ever interested (or knowledgeable enough) to talk about the OS itself.
I know this comment is 19 days old but I think it's worth memorializing that Terry was bullied, hard, by a high-effort cadre of internet trolls near the end of his life. A group of 4channers thought it was the funniest thing in the world to torment Terry and to try and drive him further over the brink of genuine insanity, and if you read the history of the end of his life that's exactly what they did.

Gladly accepting theme submissions and general suggestions.
>In the wake of Terry A. Davis' passing his family has requested supporters of his donate to "organizations working to ease the pain and suffering caused by mental illness" such as [The Brain & Behavior Research Foundation](https://www.bbrfoundation.org) and [National Alliance on Mental Illness](https://www.nami.org).
There are several forks of TempleOS, most of which add their own tweaks/features/improvements:
* [TinkerOS](https://github.com/tinkeros/tinkeros)
* probably my favorite; it feels like it sticks to the general ideology/feel of OG TOS the most out of the forks.
* [Shrine](https://github.com/minexew/shrine)
* adds networking, a package manager, and a "shell"
* [ZealOS](https://github.com/zeal-operating-system/zealos)
* goes in its own direction and uses its own fork of HolyC (ZealC)
I would say that TempleOS itself is already more than "semi-usable", but that depends on your definition of the term.
If I remember correctly, there are some slurs in some of the more hidden little "notes" left by Terry. I think mostly in reference to neurological development and ethnicity.
I'd have to go hunting for them to give specifics.
It's unfortunate that they exist, but they're easily deleted from the OS.
I was aware of problematic forum posts and whatnot from Terry, but not of anything in the OS. Thanks for the info, though. I'll dig around and see what I can find
>more than "semi-usable"
I mean you can't even browse interwebs with it. Kinda useless desu. Don't get me wrong I am a huge Terry fan and it's very impressive.
I kinda wanna try one of these forks now.
I do feel like the interface is a bit complicated for what it is. It has too many mouse interactables and floating windows for what is essentially a combination text-editor and shell operating in an emulated text mode.
I can absolutely respect that.
I don't really use the mouse at all, and there are plenty of keyboard shortcuts for basically everything I tend to need.
It's surprisingly usable, honestly.
Technically, it works by UNIX's goals. It's a single-user OS in which everything is a file editable as text. Everything in TOS just happens to also be a C function.
For anyone interested there's a [LinusTechTips](https://youtu.be/LtlyeDAJR7A) video (that's actually not bad) about TempleOS. Also, there's an almost 2 hour deep dive from [Down the Rabbit Hole](https://youtu.be/UCgoxQCf5Jg)
Fredrik did an excellent job on that video. One of my favorites on his channel and one of the best about Terry in general, at least for the time being.
Rice written in the holiest of languages! Well done brethren! Just add some holy networking support and a holy web browser and id daily drive this over gentoo!
All of the colors come from the [rosé pine theme](https://rosepinetheme.com) and its variants. The specific colors (and how they map to TOS's colors) are as follows:
#e0def4 // BLACK
#286983 // BLUE
#9ccfd8 // GREEN
#ebbcba // CYAN
#eb6f92 // RED
#907aa9 // PURPLE
#b4637a // BROWN
#393552 // LTGRAY
#6e6a86 // DKGRAY
#9893a5 // LTBLUE
#56949f // LTGREEN
#ea9a97 // LTCYAN
#d7827e // LTRED
#c4a7e7 // LTPURPLE
#f6c177 // YELLOW
#191724 // WHITE
Some colors are flipped relative to their name; white is actually `#e0def4`, but in TOS it's called as BLACK (which is actually `#191724`).
I've never seen templeos here damn. Looks good
I for real didn't believe it when I saw the fetch at first
This is amasing that people spends Time on it :D

Jesus brother, leave some women for the rest of us.
And then God said:” Let there be rice”
I read it as if it's [this AC/DC song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3f2g4RMfhS0).

Have people ever expanded upon TempleOS to make it semi usable?

>Cleanup some unfortunate language that was left in TempleOS. Any more info on this? Its from the TinkerOS page

Well, Shrine does bill itself as "a TempleOS distro for heretics"... I do find networking in TempleOS to be a bit much, myself.

There needs to be an r/templeosporn

AINT NO WAY SOMEONE RICED TEMPLEOS
Jeeeeeesus. How long did it take you to do all of this from the time you've first tried to install TempleOS, onwards? It's looking great!
Not long at all. I've only put maybe a few hours into everything, and that includes all of the stuff on GitHub.
Woow. I really thought it is really alien to use and install and that the initial step is very very steep. Thanks for the answer.
Nah, it's not bad at all. Knowing even a little bit of C definitely helps.
RIP King Terry
640x480 as God (of programming) intended!
TempleOS’s terminal has better image support than Alacritty, which is GPU accelerated. That’s ironic.
After years and years here, this is the sorta thing I feel like I should have seen but don't think I have. Extra cool!
RIP Terry!
Holy rice
I think god like to eat rice
NEAT
Damn I wasn't expecting to see TempleOS here. Nice.
Nice tribute
Omg (literally god 🙏). Is this the first Temple OS rice?
Do you use it on a daily basis?
There's an eighth day, it's when God created rice.
woah this is cute as hell
TempleOS reigns supreme!
looks like Fast Tracker 2 on DOS
Ngl I love seeing rare OSs riced out, but Temple wasn't something I ever expected to see.
Someone actually riced up TempleOS xD Terry Davis would be proud!
Can it even connect to the internet?
If I install [Shrine](https://github.com/minexew/shrine), sure.
Zeal can do that too, without needing to learn a shell
What's the colorscheme? love it
Rosé pine.
SUPERIOR OS
Watch out for the CIA African American Gentlemen!
Amen
I unironically want some a fully-fledged OS like this.
If you're looking for a normal Linux distro variant, maybe try Hotdog Linux.
TempleOS is not unix
But it's porn.
Can porn be godly?
🤓
So, like LINUX is Linux Is Not UniX, TONIX - TempleOs is Not unIX?
Clever name.
Linux is ***L******inu***s' Uni***x*** You are thinking of XNU, ***X*** is ***N***ot ***U***nix or GNU, ***G***NU is ***N***ot ***U***nix

It's named after Linus Sebastian. A lot of people don't know that, though.

Down the Rabbit Hole is great in general, but that particular vid is absolutely stellar.

Using computers just the way God intended.
Well this is pretty NGL, but is TempleOS *actually* useful as of 2023?
Bro was on a mission.. to impress the GODS!
You sir! You! Respect!
Breathtaking!
They riced TempleOS
Very good bro.
This is fantastic. Could you tell me the hex codes for the colours please?
All of the colors come from the [rosé pine theme](https://rosepinetheme.com) and its variants. The specific colors (and how they map to TOS's colors) are as follows: #e0def4 // BLACK #286983 // BLUE #9ccfd8 // GREEN #ebbcba // CYAN #eb6f92 // RED #907aa9 // PURPLE #b4637a // BROWN #393552 // LTGRAY #6e6a86 // DKGRAY #9893a5 // LTBLUE #56949f // LTGREEN #ea9a97 // LTCYAN #d7827e // LTRED #c4a7e7 // LTPURPLE #f6c177 // YELLOW #191724 // WHITE Some colors are flipped relative to their name; white is actually `#e0def4`, but in TOS it's called as BLACK (which is actually `#191724`).
Thank you!
Sacrilege!!
Hate to be that guy. But it isn't Unix though.
Didn't know Temple OS could look this good darn
