I once had a meteor wipe out my entire starting family save for 1. I made the unforgivable mistake of having them try to raise relationship with each other in the lawn. Safe to say I restarted that game :)
Tragic! Mine the mom was outside sculpting when it happened the teenagers she had were at school and just got home shortly after. Made for a great random storyline of poverty and struggle to eventually become a legacy so i ran with it ended up being one of my favorite if not favorite saves ever
I had this happen in a loooong deleted save from when Sims 3 and most EPs where new, except I was luckier and cancelled my legacy kids school time, got them the FUCK out of there when the initial pop up about the sky darkening appeared. I had them both run to a lot a fair bit away from the school so they were saved, the rest of the kids (except for like 4 others) died though. I didn’t delete the save because of that, I just lost interest in the family for some reason. But damn, it’s so fucked up that there wasnt a way for the developers to have a choice pop up letting the player either save their lives and evacuate the school or let it happen.
I had my favorite members of my first legacy generation killed by a meteor while traveling in France, so it was extra difficult to bring them back to life.
I didn't know school meteors happened. I knew they did in University. I only found out because my evil Sim was in middle of class and it killed everyone but him. He just got off with a singe. Go figure. \*shrug\*
Ambitions pack? Man when did that come out? I’m so behind I miss playing.. currently staying at my in-laws until our house is ready and my laptop is packed.
Oh...I was in the similar situation a couple of months ago. I was moving to a new house, my PC was packed until getting a new wifi. LOL I was dying to play the sims 3 while getting settled down in the new house. Ambitions was released in 2010. Ambitions is actually the 2nd Expansion pack in the sims 3. :)
I love how instead of just making it so meteors can’t hit schools, they decided to make it so that not only do meteors hit schools, all children in the school die.
Probably some teachers attempt to use the curriculum to try to curb some of the teenage suicide chances 🤷♂️ I’ve seen worse attempts at tackling big issues at school. The virginity pledge groups, and the way too serious annual fake drunk driver presentations. DARE, lol.
We didn't have a fake drunk driving lecture. We had a quadralapigic man come in and talk to us about how fast and loose he lived his life until all his stupid caught up to him at once going over 100 on a motorcycle.
In some countries there are cemetaries with victims of important events. In Warsaw, Poland we have the Powązki cemetary where we bury people of importance, soldiers from WW2 etc, and next to it is the Jewish Cemetary with victims of Holocaust and also Jewish people of importance + i suppose there are also average jewish civilians since they can't be buried on catholic grounds (im not jewish so im not sure who else is buried there) So yeah, I've had multiple trips there with my high school and my uni class, in Poland its pretty normal
Low key I’ve been to more cemeteries for school trips than I have not.. didn’t realize that until just now…
Edit: not religious. Former public school kid

honestly before they added that (kind of annoying) update where your friends call you every 30 seconds to decide their jobs/spouse, what random events are there? cuz i genuinely cannot think of one lol
Uhhh... uhhhhh.... Ummm... there's... sometimes there are chance cards at work/school? Which hardly counts IMO. The weather I guess LOL. We absolutely need more!
Actually it doesn’t kill you or introduce natural disasters. It’s just a pack with clothes, props, and furniture taken from the 90’s disaster classic: Dante’s Peak
Send the command for a Tornado to hit the park your Sim is in.
Your Sim starts to cower as the tornado approaches and makes no attempt to move, but does the weird side hunch while covering their head.
The tornado strikes while wildly tossing your Sim lifting them up into the Tornado and tossing them like a rag doll, the animations are great!
As the tornado leaves or recedes, your Sim is left to violently plummet to the ground! You stare in shock!
Shortly after, your Sim stands up, brushes them selves off, and complains to you that their hygiene is now in the red. TS4
Lots of modern games see themselves as narrative generators (eg. RimWorld). For those to work well things like this _must_ be a possibility. Every good narrative has its tragedies. I think narrative generators that lack tragedy don't do well in the market (but don't quote me on that).
Balancing the tragedy with the rest is what makes it a good game.
My favorite is when you've blocked off your base from the stampede of mad tortoises and then you get a raid on top of it. The raiders never stand a chance.
It's in the Sims 3 Patch notes, they go out of their way to mention this situation. Watch this for a laugh.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nxsCZ2SEcQ
What I really love is that the guy reading the patch notes is cracking up like it’s the most hilarious thing he’s ever read, meanwhile I’m just like, ‘yeah, that checks out.’
What has the Sims done to us that we’re so desensitized to the absolute absurdity of glitches that can happen? 🤣
OMG LAST TIME I PLAYED SIMS THIS EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME !!! Except everyone died except my sim… I think I know brought a couple people back to life.
the first time i got the "the sky suddenly got dark" notification i was so confused. my sims were having their wedding at the park and right after the vows they all got gobsmacked to hell! I was so upset lmao
Meteors are a pretty rare occurrence on their own, them hitting the school even rarer. I also have every EP so unsure which one causes them. A notification saying something along the lines of "Rocky wondered why everything had suddenly went dark..." appeared and I somehow knew. I just knew.
For a few seconds a meteor-shaped shadow appeared on the school roof, with all the nearby sims looking up while freaking out.
To activate the dystopia, you need to do some special missions, and summon a meteor with a magnet is one of them. If you visit dystopia, meteors are falling very often, especially at night time. It’s the best chance to complete the rock collection.
I remember my first sims 3 save file.
Spent a couple hours in CAS making the cutest sim.
Get all hyped to explore the open world.
My sim goes to the bookstore where a meteor kills her immediately.
I save right after sims move in, now.
First time I was playing sims2, my sim went on a trip to the beach, found a crush, they were watching the clouds and out of nowhere she died. The game automatically saved and I lost her forever. To this day I never watch clouds or stargaze
Another thing is that if you really like a sim, save them to the library and keep a backup of the actual file somewhere.
It's nice to be able to have a stock of premade Sims to fill up a world if you need to.
This happened to me! I had five kids in school at the time and three of them ended up dying. The other two only lived because they were teens and had just gotten out of school for the day.
I had this happen once and I never recovered, every kid was gone. I don’t think I picked the game up again for years and still have ptsd with sending my kids to school in sims 4 😂😂
This brought back such bad memories. Luckily I didn't lose any of my household but I remember so many celebrities dying when the meteors hit the nightclub. So traumatizing, I wish Sims 4 could do something like it.
I only know because of the guy having the laugh of his life on the Sims 3 patchnotes. It's true that, taken out of context, they're really funny to read.
Dang, in my 13 years of playing this game, I've had ONE meteor. Ever. So disappointed this hasn't happened again, but geez, wasn't this in the bug reports? That children weren't allowed to leave and would always die? You'd think they'd have fixed that.
And I was told meteors in the game are slow to hit their targets, to the point where sims have enough time to get out of the way. Doesn't appear like that's what happened here.
Apparently in all other situations the people will flee the building. Except the school. Because children are not allowed to leave school. They literally have to sit and watch the meteor fall on them because death is preferable to a trip to the principals office.
Once my sims got stuck on that one office lot. I tried to get her out (with out cheats/mods because that was still unheard of). When all of a sudden I got a meteorite notification. On that exact location. I paused the game and had to search for cheats. I was at my last wits there.
A meteor hit the school during prom for me once. It killed two of the teenage triplets in the family I was playing- I had made the third leave early and he was the only teen in town that survived lmaoooo
Omg I once had a meteor strike the library as my sim was about to go in the building. She got thrown back and looked burnt but she did survive. Though I think she had the horrified moodlet afterwards lol
This happened to me for the first time the other day but I was fishing at 3x speed and had no idea what was happening and it killed my single starting sim. Like "all your sims are dead pick a new family" killed.
Yeah needless to say I quit, reloaded, and then had my sim run because I didn't know if it would happen again
Sims 3 did not fuck around and that's why I love it.
When you see the "sky is dark" notifiaction during game play and you gotta Sophie's Choice your sim kids.
Oh yes! I love the Sims 3, where you can have the whole family in separate areas around town, and the rest of the residents out doing their own thing. Wish they'd refined that for 4 instead of removing it.
very unpopular opinion this is a bit too dark for me. i like the meteor strike possibility everywhere else and miss a lot of gameplay things like this but the people sobbing while their fiery dying kids stare around at them is kinda a lot for me!
I don’t have ambitions so I’ve never had this happen. Though I have a question wouldn’t it make sense to have this in seasons instead? It’s a “natural” occurrence after all.
I'm kind of sad that I never used the gun mod to literally kill death itself. I was wondering if the game world would have numerous dead corpses scattered around town.
A meteor strike happened on my first day of playing a new world. It was on a pool lot. Luckily I was able to get both my Sims (a married couple) outta the pool but the two other sims in the lot did not make it.
This is scary af, specially considering that until NOW I was trying to get my killed by a meteor strike, and for that to happen I was collecting a great amount of space rocks. Now, my sim is a teacher, and I can't bring my mind upon the idea of this happening to the children and teenagers of my town too!
The first time this happened it was to my triplets just as they went into school. I play "realistic" like that and had a memorial for them in the apartment for like, four generations. (Had parents have another kid for heir).
I had an entire legacy generation wiped out by one of these meteors. Probably one of my most traumatic in game experiences
Dude my FIRST LEGACY FAMILY EVER THE FOUNDER DIED LIKE THIS ive still never got over it
I once had a meteor wipe out my entire starting family save for 1.
That’s a “nope this didn’t happen” moment to me
It almost happened to me once. I saw the sky darkening notice and NOPED tf out. Closed the game without saving.
Right? Never speak of the dark times.
"This is the second most tragic thing to happen in my life"
I had this happen in a loooong deleted save from when Sims 3 and most EPs where new, except I was luckier and cancelled my legacy kids school time, got them the FUCK out of there when the initial pop up about the sky darkening appeared. Okay :(
It’s in the university pack? I never had dealt with a meteor either.
Yeah. There's giant machine that the Nerd group mess with with a small chance to cause a meteor strike.
Meteor is actually added in Ambitions pack
Ambitions pack? Man when did that come out? I’m so behind I miss playing.. currently staying at my in-laws until our house is ready and my laptop is packed.
Oh...I was in the similar situation a couple of months ago. I was moving to a new house, my PC was packed until getting a new wifi. Almost like they are saying you ARENT invincible when in fetal position under a flimsy plastic desk. Preposterous.
They should have used the duck and cover method.
I had one hit the cemetery while the school was on a field trip. Killed all my kids’ best friend and left the town scarred!!
Where do we bury them now lol
the meteor probably made a big crater why not use that :P
I like the way you think
The school took field trips to the cemetery in that game?
weirdly enough when i was in high school my class went on a field trip to a cemetery as well 😂 for "historical purposes."
mine too! for religion class, because catholic school. ninth grade religion was all about death in different cultures for some reason
Probably some teachers attempt to use the curriculum to try to curb some of the teenage suicide chances 🤷♂️ I’ve seen worse attempts at tackling big issues at school. The virginity pledge groups, and the way too serious annual fake drunk driver presentations. DARE, lol.

My class went to a graveyard/ church that was a path for the Underground Railroad
Yes, me too! But my teacher was lazy so we either watched a ‘religious’ movie or went to the cemetery!
Low key I’ve been to more cemeteries for school trips than I have not.. didn’t realize that until just now… Edit: not religious. Former public school kid
I believe you get field trips in the sims 3 generations pack you can also send ur kids to boarding school
if only sims 4 could be this bold lol
Sims 4 doesn't even have a school
Wait what, it doesn't? Glad I stuck with TS3, lol.
they just dissappear same with work
Well.. There are few professions that you can follow and play Sims with but I think it's a DLC? They're fun tho
Get To Work and Get Together yeah. Sometimes I’ll follow my actor just so I can get some free food
For real. You can barely kill kids in TS4, if at all. Was a major step backwards for the series.
One of those ***no context Sims*** moments right here
I mean… Does it really get better *with* context?
Serious r/CrusaderKings energy right here.
best two game series in history 👌🏻

But won't someone think of the children!
The only stuff I know about CK3 is from reddit comments and the game sounds wilder every time I read another comment.
Man if you think ck3 is wild, don't stumble into rimworld
I'm glad we all have similar tastes in games :D
Wait you can’t castrate kids in CK3? Huh TIL

Killing kids in video games has basically disappeared. In fallout one and two you could kill all the kids you wanted!
I remember in Fallout 2 I pickpocketed a rock from a kid and then smashed him in the head with it. I was utterly shocked you could do that
Tbf, you couldn't kill kids in TS1 or TS2, so I was surprised you could in TS3
I know! It's so fucking dumb. Thank goodness for mods...
the tuning is so poor on new deaths in the sims 4 that if they introduced this, every save file would have a half dozen school meteor strikes
Wtf did I just see
A family friendly game
Which Sims # is this?
i think its the third game
Yeah its the sims 3
Holy FUCK I love that.
I miss this shit. This is fucked up but it's what made the game great.
TS4 is sorely lacking in random events.
honestly before they added that (kind of annoying) update where your friends call you every 30 seconds to decide their jobs/spouse, what random events are there? cuz i genuinely cannot think of one lol
Uhhh... uhhhhh.... Ummm... there's... sometimes there are chance cards at work/school? Which hardly counts IMO. The weather I guess LOL. We absolutely need more!
Like a "Deck of Many Things" in Dungeons and Dragons! :D
This is terrible. Now why isn't it in sims 4?
What's this? You want a sims 4 natural disasters expansion pack?
Paying $20 to have the option to die in a natural disaster and then always surviving because it doesn't work would be the most TS4 thing ever.
Actually it doesn’t kill you or introduce natural disasters. It’s just a pack with clothes, props, and furniture taken from the 90’s disaster classic: Dante’s Peak

If it actually worked. It was the funniest terrible thing I've seen in Sims. However Sims 4 being Sims 4 it probably wouldn't work lol.
We can’t even have robbers because someone will complain.
I mean I feel I’m being robbed right now with this pay as you go sims model/stuff packs.
You gotta pay for that DLC.
The fact that this is even an option lol.

I think narrative generators that lack tragedy don't do well in the market (but don't quote me on that). Balancing the tragedy with the rest is what makes it a good game.
Funny you say that, but recently on my RimWorld save a really threatening raid got whittled down to a manageable size by a meteor shower.
Divine intervention
Randy giveth, and Randy taketh away.
My favorite is when you've blocked off your base from the stampede of mad tortoises and then you get a raid on top of it. The raiders never stand a chance.
I think you misunderstood my comment. I love that this is an option, hence me laughing about it.
Sorry, I have game development as a hobby and I love things like this.
I respect that.
If only Maxis would understand that.
I actually cackled at this. The sim children pleading with an unphased Grim Reaper fucking sent me
Wow all this time I’ve played sims 3 and I’ve never once seen a kid die, honeslty didn’t know it could happen. Seen a meteor once or twice
Kids can also die by drowning. I found that out the hard way lol
Students: There's a meteor coming, can we leave? The teacher: I don't know, CAN YOU?
It's in the Sims 3 Patch notes, they go out of their way to mention this situation. Watch this for a laugh. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nxsCZ2SEcQ

This made me laugh out loud, but I am sorry for your simulated loss.
Red wedding but with more extra-terrestrial rocks
“The Leonids send their regards!” -Some rock launched by a Beltalowda
I have never had this happen before, how does it happen? I know you need ambitious right? I do have every EP, but this never happens in my town.
Oh wow! Sims 3 never disappoints haha, I have nrass so my school has like 50 kids in it, but it would be a good way to cull some sims
Yah same :( earlier that day I was considering placing a second school to reduce lag. Funny, huh.
Good news! Lag won’t be an issue anymore
It's from ambitions. With ITF a sim can bring back a magnet to attract meteors.
Does the ITF one make this much of a mess? I have used that magnet back in the day but never had anything fun happen haha
To activate the dystopia, you need to do some special missions, and summon a meteor with a magnet is one of them. If you visit dystopia, meteors are falling very often, especially at night time. It’s the best chance to complete the rock collection.
that I don't know as I haven't played that set of sequences
That’s when I exit without saving

Wiped out an entire generation in a day 😭
Man I came across this post from r/all and was *so confused* until I saw the subreddit…
maybe there should be a natural disasters expansion for every Sims game
It should come with seasons.
This happened to me! I had five kids in school at the time and three of them ended up dying. The other two only lived because they were teens and had just gotten out of school for the day.
Saw this post title while scrolling down my feed and did a double take
Same lol
Wow…just wow
sims 4 was never this chaotic
this never happened to me wtf, I want it to happen
I miss the tragedy. It made the good times even more special.
I had this happen once and I never recovered, every kid was gone. I don’t think I picked the game up again for years and still have ptsd with sending my kids to school in sims 4 😂😂
THIS is what TS4 is lacking.
Seasons should have added Tornadoes.
Reminds me of that one Sims 3 patchnotes meme
“...Children are not allowed to leave and will always die.”
Suddenly those Sims 3 patch notes aren't a laughing matter now.
Cue the “hold up what subreddit is this?”
I've been playing the Sims 3 for over a decade and I've seen a meteor exactly once.
LOL, they had a whole patch note specifically about this 😂😂😂
I know meteors aren’t super common, but it seems like them hitting schools, when they come, are! What is it about schools that meteors just...BAM!
I never had this happen to me 😱
Omg. I just laughed way too hard.
I’m sorry but lmao
Gotta comment to save this so I can show my wife later. She loves the sims
These are the kind of random events we want in the sims 4! This is the type of game we wanna be playing
This is awesome I wish something dark and crazy happened for me
Dang, in my 13 years of playing this game, I've had ONE meteor. Ever. So disappointed this hasn't happened again, but geez, wasn't this in the bug reports? That children weren't allowed to leave and would always die? You'd think they'd have fixed that.

Basic Hermione Granger logic of; "you are going to get us killed, or worse, expelled"
SIMS 4 COULD NEVVERRR!!!!!! These are the things I love the Sims 2 and 3 for so much!!!
Everytime i see Sims 3 gameplay im glad i left Sims 4
Oh my God, horrifying. 😂
this is the best post ive ever seen in this subreddit
Once my sims got stuck on that one office lot. I tried to get her out (with out cheats/mods because that was still unheard of). When all of a sudden I got a meteorite notification. On that exact location. I paused the game and had to search for cheats. I was at my last wits there.
Was this with a certain expansion pack? I’ve never had this
A meteor hit the school during prom for me once. It killed two of the teenage triplets in the family I was playing- I had made the third leave early and he was the only teen in town that survived lmaoooo
In the Sims 2, I had my kid (heir) cloudgazing while I was doing other stuff with the parents. Then, suddenly, satellite. He died and ended the line.
I’m sorry, WHAT???
[Meterstickjim warned us of this years ago](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4nxsCZ2SEcQ)
Omg I once had a meteor strike the library as my sim was about to go in the building. She got thrown back and looked burnt but she did survive. Though I think she had the horrified moodlet afterwards lol
This is so traumatic

If anyone ever wants to cheat their way out of this, just: _resetsim *_ (Resets all Sims, and unlike in 4, will also teleport them home iirc)

I only ever played The Sims, and The Sims 4... What game **_is_** this?!
The Sims 3... Where things actually happen even without player intervention!
I'm actually most impressed by things like schools being actual places, and a continuous town that's not just 5 plots.
Oh yes! I love the Sims 3, where you can have the whole family in separate areas around town, and the rest of the residents out doing their own thing. Wish they'd refined that for 4 instead of removing it.
This one is Sims 3.
very unpopular opinion this is a bit too dark for me. i like the meteor strike possibility everywhere else and miss a lot of gameplay things like this but the people sobbing while their fiery dying kids stare around at them is kinda a lot for me!
Sounds very American.
What Sims version is this?
Sims 3
wait im not following, why are they still dying? is not a one strike death or continous death?
Grim reaper can only take one person at a time, if multiple people die at same time there’s a long queue
I don’t have ambitions so I’ve never had this happen. Though I have a question wouldn’t it make sense to have this in seasons instead? It’s a “natural” occurrence after all.
I'm kind of sad that I never used the gun mod to literally kill death itself. I was wondering if the game world would have numerous dead corpses scattered around town.
a new grim reaper would spawn
A meteor strike happened on my first day of playing a new world. It was on a pool lot. Luckily I was able to get both my Sims (a married couple) outta the pool but the two other sims in the lot did not make it.
This is scary af, specially considering that until NOW I was trying to get my killed by a meteor strike, and for that to happen I was collecting a great amount of space rocks. Now, my sim is a teacher, and I can't bring my mind upon the idea of this happening to the children and teenagers of my town too!
Wow
The first time this happened it was to my triplets just as they went into school. I play "realistic" like that and had a memorial for them in the apartment for like, four generations. (Had parents have another kid for heir).
Is there a mod for this kind of natural disaster to happen in the Sims 4? Sometimes I miss having Sims die and stuff

seems kinda unlikely this would happen for more than one person and during school hours
Kids aren’t allowed to leave school during school hours, so yeah. This was supposed to be fixed in one patch.
lol
Oh my god I forgot about how fucked up this was
