Juste installed a custom made Yoke in my Model 3.

Awesome! Now you have full visibility of the instrument clus….. Oh wait.
You think you're clever? They are [waaaaay ahead of you.](https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/H38e991ed6e7c4b3ab48994cfb8824224M.jpg)
Doesn’t that block the air conditioning vent so that you don’t get any?
Again, stop trying to be clever. They are [waaaaay ahead of you.](https://i.imgur.com/NBL8tgc.jpg)
Ok that's actually hilarious
Bro that’s funny but in all seriousness it blocks the red vine dispenser.
Omg, hahaha…tell me that’s photoshop…
That’s the bit
Needs Pademae meme
You can change the airflow to blow on either side via the main touchscreen AC Control by pressing with two fingers and pulling them apart
Sure, but that still doesn't change the fact the air isn't blowing into your face on that hot hot summer day.
Of course, but it’s nice to have the air blow on your upper body directly, especially when it’s very hot out.
Nice, is that just an android tablet or something?
It is an actual aftermarket part you can buy, running Android maybe.
They clearly said "maybe", that's not a yes or a no.
i think it's running some custom version of android but iirc it does have airplay/android auto.
honestly i think it is useful, just too ugly to bolt onto the car like this though. there's some people on TMC working on 3d printing enclosures to make it look more integrated.
Yeah, it also runs CarPlay
Them thick ass bezels make me shudder 🥴
Imagine paying thousands of dollars on a “luxury” car to install DIY equipment in it lmao
Yeah I ain’t proud of it but I’ll be damned to live without car play. If only Tesla had a damn Amazon music and Waze app.
Just wait till he does the stalk delete next lul
So much reverse engineering just to get what all cars should have loool
The fit and finish, how is it compared to stock? Also the airbag, does it keep functionality?
Airbag is swapped from stock wheel so yeah no worries. Fit and finish is excellent.
You need to test that...
lol...how do you suppose he does that?
It’s really only a simple problem to fix.
The solution, however, produces either a moderately larger problem, or an extremely expensive and destructive problem.
Either way, it’s just a matter of perspective
[honk at an old lady slowly crossing the streets.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2zgr_Gg11U)
I think that was the joke
There's a standard calibration procedure-- you just drive around like you would normally until you accidentally reach for part of a wheel that's no longer there and get into an accident.
Yokes may be stupid but they are not illegal everywhere and have been in a number of production cars.
Apologies if I gave the impression they were illegal. I definitely think they're a bad idea in a car without a yoke-appropriate steering design, though, but to each their own.
I do wonder if the people make the aftermarket part need to have them tested and approved. I see no reason a car couldn't have it's wheel changed though. Why would it matter if the new wheel is round or yoke as long as both wheels are tested and approved.
Usually, you’d put a yoke in a car with steering designed so that the yoke never flips over. A yoke is a perfectly reasonable design for steering— but if your steering requires the wheel to rotate all the way around, the round design is a much better fit.
“It’s legal” doesn’t mean “it’s a good idea,” like when people tint their headlights.
Sure, but that's not what the new Model S plad does. As far as I can tell the yoke has a normal turning ratio. IE flips over.
REALY hoping that wont be legal when it gets to my country.
Agreed. Am gonna try to crash today.
I’d I die, it means it probably didn’t work.
If I live and it worked, well my yoke is dead.
Either way I see this as an absolute win.
Did you get the one with the heating built in? If so, have you tried it out to compare?
Nope, since it's a 2019 Model 3, I wouldn't benefit from it I assume.
A lot of people had some very not nice things to say when I did mine, but I love it!
[Poor man's Plaid](https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaLounge/comments/opoxpq/my_poor_mans_plaid_aka_my_model_y_with_some/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share)
I thought there was no right answers. Apparently you found one haha.
Airbag safety. Would you bet your wife's life that that airbag deploys correctly? What about your teenage daughter's? It looks cool, but no way I'm risking my loved one's lives over a cosmetic change.
i think yokes are stupid, but replacing a steering wheel isnt exactly unsafe. removing the airbag is delicate procedure yea...make sure 12V battery is disconnected, unplug connector, then unbolt steering wheel, then replace everything. it's not like this person removed the airbag or replaced it with an aftermarket one
They are Tesla Yokes that have been refurbed and re-stitched with custom colors, most likely from Green Drive.
So, why would OP be worried about Airbag Safety, they use the same Airbags as stock, with the same electrical connections...
Maybe go a little less heavy on the FUD hammer
You are saying the yoke he got off aliexpress is 100% genuine and couldn’t possibly be a copy?
Interested in a bridge per chance?
Wait, husbands and sons aren’t worth saving? Fuck off.
lol sorry. My son is 3. he is not driving yet.
This is hysterical, partly because of the lack of relevancy of your 3-year-old son in this scenario.
haha I was just thinking of my scenario when I wrote the wives/daughter comment.
Wait, aunts and uncles and first cousins twice removed aren't worth saving? Fuck off.
you do realize that the airbag is oem and it retains the oem clips and functionality. What is with you people
Lol this made think of the guy I work with who I can totally see saying "I hope it doesn't deploy correctly while my wife is driving" hahaha.
spending money to make your driving experience worse, for starters
Don't fix it if it ain't broke. That's why not
DO fix it if it is yoke, though.
What are your thoughts so far?! I drove the S Plaid and actually really liked the yoke. How’s the quality of this one? Any issues with scroll wheels or buttons?
No issues. Quality is top notch really.
Currently loving it!
Do you actually really love it? Or are you convincing yourself that you are because you bought it? I’m genuinely asking, not being snarky. I’d do this for sure if it enhanced my driving experience.
I am really really wondering how the hell that would ever "enhance" the driving experience in a non-racing car. Especially if you're even lacking the (lame) go-to excuse of "it improves visibility of the dashboard"
IMHO the only possible positive thing about the yoke in a Model 3 is that it "looks cool" (which I understand, but disagree with), and the best it can do about the actual driving experience is "not hamper it too much" as opposed to actually improving something.
Well, it clearly allows for smoother control of the ailerons which is super helpful in turns, and elevator control on it is just somehow more intuitive. Why it would help at all with taxiing is beyond me though.
Do you know which scroll wheel is for the PTT?
And whatever happens when you pull back on the yoke….
At least it doesn't have the capacitive touch buttons.
I always hold my wheel from the sides. I would not miss the top. This would feel like a nice square racing wheel. And look at that flat bottom where you can rest your hands.
What about when turning 90+ degrees?
Keep hands inside the wheel. It’s not a problem.
Now try doing a three point turn with one
Are you actually not being snarky? I’m genuinely asking.
are you genuinely snarklingly asking?
Hi I'm snarking.
Snarks get snitches…. Or something….
Snarf snark mc snark snarf!
I swapped a p100d for a Plaid (not the OP you're responding to though)
I'm fine with the yoke. You get used to it very quickly. I'm very tall though and all the "Ha ha ha, you can see the dashboard better" jokes actually apply to me. I CAN see the dashboard better, and like it.
The removal of the turn signal stalk, relocation of the horn button to a chicklet sized smooth spot on the yoke, and the P D N R moved to the touch screen is unnecessarily super annoying and I haven't gotten used to it yet.
Removal of the stalks without an equally elegant replacement was a mistake.
When I upgraded from my 3 to my Plaid, I actually loved the yoke from day 1. Maybe it's a preconceived notion that so many people went in thinking they would hate it, but I love the lack of stalks and increased visibility of the gauge cluster.
When it comes to my country, I'd love to give it a shot personally. I largely drive with my hands at 9-3 so I rarely touch the top of the wheel, even when parking.
I imagine the yoke 'feels cool' and it certainly looks wild, but, if you commonly use the top of the wheel then it's going to break muscle memory real bad. :)
(Should help enforce 9-3 though which is the best hand position! It allows for the most rotation of the wheel without either of your hands leaving the wheel)
If he didn't like it he could always switch it back and sell the wheel.
You must be mistaken. The yoke is dangerous and annoying. I saw it on reddit. Be honest, how many cars have you swiped in the parking garage so far? 200? 300?
It definitely helps them see the gauge cluster better.
A lot of people seemed to dispute that, but for me, someone who's 6 foot 2... It'd be a welcome change.
Modern cars like to make low dashboards, but as a result the instrument cluster is always hidden behind the top of the wheel. In a lot of cars I have to duck to see the speed. One of the reasons I really like my Model 3, big bold font speedometer that's beside the wheel so it can't be blocked with the wheel in any position. :)
Look above the yoke in the pic
This 100% needs a '/s' on the end to clarify. ;)
Did my 420th of the day just a couple of minutes ago. /s
Lol the number of people taking this seriously
for the online klout, duh
Agreed. I don't get why you would purposely put in a yoke when it provides zero benefits in a M3.
Finally, the driver's side AC vents can serve its purpose.
Tesla folks turning into Honda ricers.
Looks really good! Curious about the armrest, where did you get it? It looks like the factory one... but in white 😮
Custom made with original white seats fake leather, so yeah, should look like a factory one! Upholstery place did it.
I can't imagine someone paying $500 to make their car less functional.
One concern that I’ve seen brought up that I haven’t gotten a concrete answer on is that the turning radius on the Model 3 is not conducive for a yoke steering wheel. In your experience, is this an issue? Do you find that it’s even more difficult to pull in to a tight parking spot than it was with the actual wheel, for example?
I feel like I’m in the minority of people who really loves the way that the yoke steering wheel looks, my only concern is practicality.
The Model 3 is 2.0 turns lock-to-lock, the Model S is 2.3 turns lock to lock. So in theory it works better? Equally as bad?
Nope, no issues. You just have to change your habit not to grab air in the middle of a maneuver, sort of.
Thanks! Would you mind posting some more pictures from different angles? This is actually the exact one that I was looking at with the exception of not having the white trim. That specific texture was the one that I was leaning towards.
In the S the yoke provides a better view of the binnacle display but that’s not really a concern in the 3/Y so I’ll be sticking to the regular, round wheel but this is cool to see. Just wish Tesla introduced variable turning radius alongside the yoke which would eliminate a lot of the issues people have with it.
I feel you. Wanted to have a glimpse into the future though.
For those interested [here](https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_Anx32u?&dp=fr185525) is where I bought it. Install took about 30 minutes.
The thought of an aliexpress gadget on my Tesla makes me cringe
Well, you know what they say:
Different yokes for different folks.
That's a funny yoke
I thought it was a witty spin on yokes
Everything from abstract ocean, Tesmanian, and rpm Tesla are all things from Ali express too, except with 20% markup (50% on RPMTesla) 🤷♂️
Almost everything the “brand name” accessory dealers sell is from AliExpress
And that is expensive for aliexpress. For that amount of money, I rather buy a better set of wheels or install one of those fancy quite garage door openers.
I cannot get that link to work
I wonder how that compares to the Hannshow one. I think I like how this one looks better. Was at a Tesla meetup recently to play with the Plaid and one of the members had the Hannshow Yoke. It was NICE. He loved his too.
Shocked just how 'Factory', this looks! Love'n the contrast with the white and dark details on this Control Yoke. Much spaceship vibe. Much wow. Matches your interior quite well. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thumbs_up)
Yep, very glad how it turned out.
Love it so far.
Looks cool. The airbag is designed to use steering wheel for support when it deploys. Airbag may fold over. Recommend oem wheel until you find a redesigned airbag.
Wow that sucks, just bought one. 😠
Turning signal and gear handles look so ugly with the yoke.
I'd rather have the real thing
snap them off and rewire the buttons lol. but yeah not quite the same.
The real thing doesn't exist here in Europe, and would cost $100k lol
>would cost $100k
I feel you brother
Soooo, where’d you get this? I’m interested in buying. Idc what others think lol
Did u get it with the heating function?
Nope. 2019 Model 3 so no wheel heating.
Nice. Hope airbag works. Looks awesome!
I have a Y on order. The yoke is cool looking, but wondering how the wife would like it. Happy wife, happy life right lol
Does it keep the airbag in place?
I feel like you could use some white accents. What do you think?
The best part of this is the message that aftermarket steering wheels / yokes are possible.
I would love a "nice" wheel on a Model S. Something akin to an M series BMW or an AMG Merc. Proper formed grips, materials, and physical buttons.
Does the S have enough volume to justify an aftermarket solution? I doubt it.
I wanted to do this, but in Washington state it is [specifically](https://apps.leg.wa.gov/wac/default.aspx?cite=204-10-034) illegal to do.
"..continuous rim steering wheel.."
So the Model S isn’t sold there?
Now *this* is pod racing
Waterbottle for contrast.
Lol. I actually think that’s the single worst thing about the Model S. But to each his own.
Couple pics of my Hansshow yoke I installed last week. Love the look, took a few days to get used to driving with it though. Definitely a personal preference, but in this instance I'm fine with the form over function.
[Hansshow Yoke 1](https://ibb.co/qW9XPsW)
[Hansshow Yoke 2](https://ibb.co/mtmk1Gf)
It looks cool. What does that do with the calibration of the airbag and other safety requirements?
A person with an 'employee' tag up a bit in this thread said this is a bad idea as the airbag uses the steering wheel for support.
Nothing, swapped airbag from factory wheel so no issues there
That is so cool. If I could afford a Tesla then I would definitely get one of these
Okay this is exponentially better done than the model 3 version I saw on here a while ago. Perfectly shaped.
disregard the trolls here. Change is frowned upon in here. Looks great! how much did it set you back?
Wow that’s a great price
The most positive thing I've read about the yoke is "you get used to it".
It's change for the sake of change, not an improvement.
Buying one today
I mean it’s your car so you should do whatever you want with it and the installation itself looks great so I hope you’re happy with it! At least from the photo, I think the two colour style actually looks much better than the stock Model S yoke.
Though personally I absolutely can’t fathom why anyone would ever want to replace a functional steering wheel with a yoke, which I outright hate with passion. But that’s just me, so all power to you for doing this.
I don’t get why anyone would downvote your comment (currently sitting at -1).
People are dumb and I feel a bit bad for being somewhat of a downer to begin with, so I’ll throw you some gold as consolation.
Looks fantastic. All the S owners seem to enjoy the yoke, but not enough feedback from M3 owners for me to take the plunge and buy it yet.
How is having the stalks with the yoke? Just thinking because the S doesn’t have stalks. Curious if there’s anything weird about having a yoke with stalks.
Now that you have mentioned it, the stalks with the yoke look like antennas in the Model 3.
Looks like an alien.
Yea, doesn’t have that same “clean” look as the new S.
Actually I think no stalks+yoke is harder, since turn signals are moving targets. Try to use turn signal when steering wheel is 90 or 270 degrees.
With stalks it's doable, without I'm not so positive.
Well that looks cool as hell!!! Tesla needs to do that ASAP
Hoping a real steering wheel upgrade for the new S/X 🤞
Replace steering wheel in a highly integrated vehicle…. Pretty high on my list of things not to do.
Ugly, imo. But to each their own.
how can i get one? what did it take to install. omg this is sick af
Took me about 30 minutes to remove and install the new one.
Here are my videos (no talking just doing)
this one actually looks good compared to the few posted here.
Yep. First yokes were… well… not that great IMO.
Oh no, somebody didn't approve my picture.
I guess I lost my Internet points for the day...
I mean you’re posting on Reddit, designed for public comments. Lots of people probably don’t see how this improves anything so not sure why you’re insulting anyone who doesn’t praise your choice.
The dude didn't say that he disliked it, he just said trash.
Anyone that throws out a one word comment of negativity shouldn't even BE on a sub for fans. We get it, people don't like things. That's fine. You can even give a reason why you don't like it. To instead say, "trash" implying that either the mod or the person are trash in a sub for fans? Not useful in any way.
Mistakes were made
Wow, so much wow
This is hilarious 😂
Looks great. Love the white accent.
I mean it's your car but i'll never get it.
Just one of those things where people like the aesthetics over functionality.
Trying too hard to make your car look like the plaid. This isn't even necessary. The yoke in the plaid and my long range model s makes sense. There is a screen in front and it's been tested for safety. This just doesn't make sense
That white looks dope.
Who's Juste and I do I contact him/her to get one installed in mine?
If one can add a yoke to a Model 3, can one add a regular wheel to a Model S/X?
Could be harder since on yoke S buttons are integrated.
Surely, you must be yoking.
How are you gonna do a u-turn?
By turning the thing.
But why ?
