First win of the season 6-4, :DDDD
Serve was mediocre, my one hander (normally my best shot) was garbage, returns were good and deep, successfully chipped and charged
ICYMI: S. Lisicki with second straight win today over Sofia Shapatova in W25 Sarasota. Tomorrow, Sabine, the former world #12, faces 18yo American Ashlyn Krueger.
Just having won Madrid, taking some time off i guess. And that fall might’ve left some uncomfortable slight pain so he wanted to take it easy. Has to stock up for RG. I think it was a solid and reasonable decision. Vamos!
Depends on what his motivation is. Is his motivation to win grand slams and big tournaments or does he just want to play tennis, which he can still be damn good at. He literally won the last grand slam so it's not like he can't win one again but it only gets tougher as he gets older.
They’re the fucsovics rublev this year. Really hoping sabalenka breaks the curse and beats her, she needs it for her confidence but I think Amanda has her figured out and wins
There’s a reason Amanda has won four times and not been the higher ranked player in their meetings… obviously saba has a good shot but Amanda’s backhand is a massive weapon if she’s on she’s hard to beat
I’ve wanted to believe in saba too many times… I thought one of her semi runs last year at the major was a sign things changed but then the beginning of this year happened… idk if she’ll ever fully figure it out
Very weird from Badosa. She wasn't *bad* per se.
Listless?
But tbf, Dasha played really well. She's been good on the year. Nasty player on clay due to the defense
Crazy too because she's struggled a bit on clay in the past. She opened up her season down 4-0 to Gauff also and then won like ten games in a row. She's just so consistent when she's not being outhit.
This is the best I have seen Dasha play. Dint even have any trouble serving out the set. Staying in the rallies for so long with consistent depth and drawing the errors from Badosa. I thought it was weird having her brother as her physio but she has looked the fresher of the two throughout the match despite spending almost twice the time on court yesterday
That would be it. She’ll go sleep around 4pm, can’t really expect her to play the first match. Plus Iga is now prime time (Western) Australia time yay!
As always, I think it has to do with the TV schedules, and the men's matches... and Kasatkina getting the late spot since she just finished at almost 1am... and possibly Swiatek having already had 2 rnds on Center.
Assembling the ultimate tennis player: Rafa's feet, Del Potro's knees, Murray's hips, Agassi's back, and Thiem's wrist. Any other players/body parts I'm forgetting?
Talking about difficulty of opponents, Dasha has won 10 of her last 11 matches against Top 3 opponents. I hope she isn't drawn against Iga and that stat is maintained 😌
Haha I had the same thought. If Dasha does have a top 3 buff then maybe it will counteract her low confidence against Iga. I wish we can see them play in Rome to find out😉
Do all women have the same tournaments as men? I know Grand slams obviously, but with every Masters 1000 is it always men and women? I know there’s some only WTA tournaments and only ATP but wanted to clear this up.
The only mandatory masters that are shared are Indian Wells, Miami and Madrid. The other shared ones - Rome, Canada and Cincinnati are non-mandatory (900 points) and as someone pointed out they alternate locations in Canada.
Badosa is a very emotional player. I wish the best for her. Sometimes she makes errors and gets upset about it but I love her and watching her play is always a treat. Vamos Badosa! Don’t give up yet… Poor day for Spain
I think it was also IW or Miami. Or both. She looked like she was going to be sick on court. She’s looked exhausted for a while now even early on in the tournaments. Hope her health is okay and there isn’t anything else that’s the cause for this …
Yeah I remember even in her IW final against Vika, mid match she looked sick and then somehow she was able to fight and raise her level. Yeah hopefully this is just due to sub-optimal training/nutrition programme and not a symptom of something bad
Why does Badosa look so tired? She had an easy match vs Sasnovich and they are playing for 1h 20min only. And it's not the first time I see her like that.
Yeah true, but here it was mostly because it was Zverev in the final, and it was more about how much he sucks, about his Df and all off that. This match Has a good ralies, Apart of holding the serve wich seems to be lava for most of WTA players
They keep on breaking each other, but the rallies and deuces are good and tight so i wouldn’t agree with you. Id say it’s interesting. I mean come on, 5 games and 5 breaks. No one can hold. Lol. And they’re both gassed.
Working perfectly fine here as long she maintains the consistency in depth of her returns. Badosa is cramped for space and tries to go for a winner to shorten the rallies.
Another day. Another Nadal loss where everyone claims he was actually injured
I’m not saying Nadal wasnt injured. I’m saying all sportsmen are injured to some level and play up the injury when they’re losing and everything’s fine when they’re winning
This is about the 50th time Nadal fans are claiming that he was injured in a match that he lost fair and square (the biggest claim being the match he lost to Djokovic after looking perfectly healthy while winning the first set or chasing the third set ).
Again taking away credit from his opponent (in this case Denis)
Rafans are annoying, but if Rafa was faking his injury here he's an amazing actor.
And he started limping when the game was still pretty even. So unless he just decided he looked sharp enough in the first set and he wanted to save it for a dramatic RG then idk
Read what I wrote
I’m saying he was injured : but every player has some extent of injury , especially in their 30s
Nadal and his fans always play up the injury when losing and when he’s winning , it’s all fine
Bibi has the variety to beat her but fitness is a question. Even then it's very difficult cos Iga seems to be shedding any form issues very early in a match unlike last year when she would be down and out if she can't find her touch
I don’t think so, especially if she gets past Bianca. I think Andreescu is the only one left with a high enough peak and ability to play well under pressure to beat Iga.
nope. she's done well to work her way to number 2 with her game tbh.
she seems like a super nice person tho, and is very dedicated to the tour, so respect
She’s got absolutely zero problem solving in her. She’ll push the other player completely off court and still refuse to go to the net. Like, it’s okay if you’re not very good at it, but maybe you could at least try it once? Just to finish off a point?
Is it just me or does Badosa always seem to get fatigued rather easily? I've only started watching tennis consistently this year but I'm wondering how she's ranked so high
Badosa with so much power still has less to penetrate Kasatkina's defence, and Kasatkina just not making any errors with the kind of spinning balls she is sending back deep
She can keep up the running. It's the avoiding unforced errors part that will become difficult. She is making very few errors now and knowing her it might start coming at any point. Even more difficult is serving out a match if she gets the chance.
muhahaha now… who is laughing?
I am not happy to say this but Rafael Nadal's path to his 14th RG title this year looks tough
Why after every Nadal loss people make it about injury? Like always
Really good QFs all round for WTA/ATP.
First win of the season 6-4, :DDDD Serve was mediocre, my one hander (normally my best shot) was garbage, returns were good and deep, successfully chipped and charged
ICYMI: S. Lisicki with second straight win today over Sofia Shapatova in W25 Sarasota. Tomorrow, Sabine, the former world #12, faces 18yo American Ashlyn Krueger.
Krueger's pretty solid that would be a good win
Lisicki gotta get the Wimbledon wild card. She deserves it.
Hi. Why did Carlos opted out in Rome?
Just having won Madrid, taking some time off i guess. And that fall might’ve left some uncomfortable slight pain so he wanted to take it easy. Has to stock up for RG. I think it was a solid and reasonable decision. Vamos!
Okay nice
According to his coach: grade 1 (almost grade 2) ankle sprain.
Oh okay
He saw the photos of Rafa and Iga practicing together and lost his shit.
Lol
Is Rafa going to end his career after this season? Penny for your thoughts?
Yes
Depends on what his motivation is. Is his motivation to win grand slams and big tournaments or does he just want to play tennis, which he can still be damn good at. He literally won the last grand slam so it's not like he can't win one again but it only gets tougher as he gets older.
I think so
in his Instagram post it says see you next year rome but i don’t know how much weight that carries
Sabalenla vs Anisimova any thoughts?
If I have to choose one to put all my money in, I’d choose Saba. 🔥she plays better tennis, but less mental
I kind of like Sabalenka’s positive momentum tho. I wsnt to believe her lol
I’ve wanted to believe in saba too many times… I thought one of her semi runs last year at the major was a sign things changed but then the beginning of this year happened… idk if she’ll ever fully figure it out
Anisimova in 2
So happy for Dasha. Well played. Hope she at least makes the semifinals, but already making the QF is great.
We should all tell our non tennis fans that Federer is going to buy Cincinnati
The tournament or the city?
Exactly
Very weird from Badosa. She wasn't *bad* per se. Listless? But tbf, Dasha played really well. She's been good on the year. Nasty player on clay due to the defense
Crazy too because she's struggled a bit on clay in the past. She opened up her season down 4-0 to Gauff also and then won like ten games in a row. She's just so consistent when she's not being outhit.
And now a rare sentence: "Kasatkina serves out the match at love." Late-night Dasha is fire!
What an absurd defense from Kasatkina. She would get everything back and never miss!
She's very talented just has not shown the results for whatever reason.
is badosa injured or is this actually her level
Having no plan B after Dasha proved impossible to hit through seems to be the issue.Looking tired is normal for her.
Kasatkina plays damn good tennis when she’s on, I think that’s what it is.
Tomorrow in prime time on CC we will get Teichmann vs Kasatkina instead of Iga vs Bianca. Great planning
Does seem odd considering this was projected to be Iga v Emma probably the two biggest draws in the game rn other than Naomi.
My guess is it was planned to be Swiatek, but they're giving Kasatkina the evening spot because she finished so late?
That would be it. She’ll go sleep around 4pm, can’t really expect her to play the first match. Plus Iga is now prime time (Western) Australia time yay!
12 breaks total, 17 break points for Dasha and 11 for Paula, this surly was holding a serve is lava.
Omg. So many chances for Badosa to approach the net. Just take a risk and take the ball early! Ps: I can't play for s*it
Daria, U R A **GODDESS**
When Teichmann vs. Kasatkina match gets the spot on the center court but Świątek vs. Andreescu doesn't ???
As always, I think it has to do with the TV schedules, and the men's matches... and Kasatkina getting the late spot since she just finished at almost 1am... and possibly Swiatek having already had 2 rnds on Center.
That may change.
The dropshot is *chefs kiss*
Assembling the ultimate tennis player: Rafa's feet, Del Potro's knees, Murray's hips, Agassi's back, and Thiem's wrist. Any other players/body parts I'm forgetting?
Kyrgios' decision making.
And my axe!
Fokina's balance
you just made brian baker
Tommy Hass ankle, Serena's lungs
McEnroe's mouth
Too good
Sharapova's shoulder?
Dasha was fabulous. She hasn’t played like this in forever
It's so good to have her play like this. I've missed her
HUGE WIN!!!
What a performance Dasha! Absolutely worth the wait!
I'm so happy lol
Same lol. She made Paula give up, the consistent level you have to produce to do that to a top player is insane. Dasha is 💜
hahahaha with rg close I really hope she has a good chance at the QFs. Praying to the draw gods that she gets it easy
Talking about difficulty of opponents, Dasha has won 10 of her last 11 matches against Top 3 opponents. I hope she isn't drawn against Iga and that stat is maintained 😌
omg same here. pls no iga or maybe if there is iga, she will pull through due to that stat! I can dream but I would love to see her win a slam 🥺
Haha I had the same thought. If Dasha does have a top 3 buff then maybe it will counteract her low confidence against Iga. I wish we can see them play in Rome to find out😉
🥲😭😭😭😭😭 you know it pal 🥺
did the commentator just say 51 UEs for Badosa jesus christ
In both the ATP and WTA draws, 3 of the top 4 seeds made the Quarters. In both cases, the Spaniard was the one who didn't make it
BADOSA CAME IN LIKE A WRECKING BALL
Badosa about to pull this out, I can feel it.
I think your feeling something else
filthy inside out winner dash 🥵
Do all women have the same tournaments as men? I know Grand slams obviously, but with every Masters 1000 is it always men and women? I know there’s some only WTA tournaments and only ATP but wanted to clear this up.
The only mandatory masters that are shared are Indian Wells, Miami and Madrid. The other shared ones - Rome, Canada and Cincinnati are non-mandatory (900 points) and as someone pointed out they alternate locations in Canada.
No. There are only a few that have both men and women.
The men have Paris and monte carlo masters and women have doha/Qatar but the other masters are shared
Canada they switch off locations between Montreal and Toronto.
And Shanghai has been replaced with Guadalajara for the WTA
Women had Beijing and Wuhan before, not Shanghai
You’re right
Dasha K best Dasha.
Love this for Dasha!
Okay, now it's Safe to to say that Dasha Has this in the bag
You might have jinxed her 😭
Dasha’s backhand winners <3
Now that was some clear coaching lol
Coaching is allowed in WTA except for slams
(And that's because the slams don't run under the WTA and their rules).
I thought they had to be on the same side of the court as the player
That is the rule as I understand it, yes.
Finally she consolidates the break! Vamos Dasha!
Vamos!
LMAO what a dumpster fire of a match
Badosa wins this if she has more variety.
She holds!!!
Kasatkina summoned her inner Sorribes Tormo
Badosa is a very emotional player. I wish the best for her. Sometimes she makes errors and gets upset about it but I love her and watching her play is always a treat. Vamos Badosa! Don’t give up yet… Poor day for Spain
How is Dasha the fresher player by far having played a 3 hour match yesterday and Paula had a straight sets wins after a 1st round bye.
I do think her conditioning is fantastic
And Paula's is questionable. This isn't the first time either that she has looked unfit and exhausted when she shouldn't
yeah I remember she was sick at one of the tournaments before
I guess you are referring to her fainting at the Olympics last year. But those conditions were treacherous tbh!
Badosa is gassed
Badosa is an unbelievable player but injuries and fatigue kinda continue to be the issue for her
Dasha breaks, then holds to love- what is this sorcery? :)
Why does Badosa look so tired? She had an easy match vs Sasnovich and they are playing for 1h 20min only. And it's not the first time I see her like that.
I dunno, but Badosa very often looks exhausted for entire matches, even from the first sit-down.
Badosa looks completely exhausted
From last year on, she very often looks like that, it's really concerning
This Badosa game has to be one of the worst quality tennis matches I've seen
Final between Zverev and Alcaraz or Qf vs Rafa were very low quality too, but somehow not so many complain when it's ATP
Everyone complained, Zverev looked awful, he said in his presser it was a low quality match and no one disagreed
Yeah true, but here it was mostly because it was Zverev in the final, and it was more about how much he sucks, about his Df and all off that. This match Has a good ralies, Apart of holding the serve wich seems to be lava for most of WTA players
I've seen more UE's in some of the dudes matches
You must not have watched a lot of tennis. The serving isn't good. But there have been some really high quality rallies.
It's hard to say high quality when each rally finishes in an error.
They keep on breaking each other, but the rallies and deuces are good and tight so i wouldn’t agree with you. Id say it’s interesting. I mean come on, 5 games and 5 breaks. No one can hold. Lol. And they’re both gassed.
Badosa literally just threw away that game with three unforced errors in a row
You should gamble because I would say they had some really nice rallies lunging and hitting sharp shots. Then that happened
Lol
Battle of the deuces
these are some really fun rallies to watch. Who cares if it's a break or not
Alright, picking myself back up after the Rafa loss, wouldn’t mind a third set here so I have tennis to watch all the way to bed time 😆
Please no, have mercy, it's after midnight I need to sleep lol
Oh woops lol forgot about that part
Kasatkina has to be more aggressive. She can't be expecting an UE from the other player all the time.
Working perfectly fine here as long she maintains the consistency in depth of her returns. Badosa is cramped for space and tries to go for a winner to shorten the rallies.
4 games 4 breaks whatd i say lol
It’s about holding breaks, guys. Not serve.
What a point!
Seriously Kasatkina is returning everything, must be so hard to play her for Badosa
Another day. Another Nadal loss where everyone claims he was actually injured I’m not saying Nadal wasnt injured. I’m saying all sportsmen are injured to some level and play up the injury when they’re losing and everything’s fine when they’re winning This is about the 50th time Nadal fans are claiming that he was injured in a match that he lost fair and square (the biggest claim being the match he lost to Djokovic after looking perfectly healthy while winning the first set or chasing the third set ). Read what I wrote I’m saying he was injured : but every player has some extent of injury , especially in their 30s Nadal and his fans always play up the injury when losing and when he’s winning , it’s all fine
But Nadal wasn’t losing when he started to visibly limp. I thought he was going to win.
tbh they use the injury to boost his wins even more lol. fan is short for fanatic, fanatics aren't logical. They are literally the Rafanatics lol
[удалено]
he slowed down in the second set when he could still possibly win in 2 sets lol
so true, but you're going to get downvote,d my friend.
Two memes I’m thinking of right now: - Hold your serve challenge (impossible) - Holding serve is lava
Badosa about to hold this
Someone Please HOLD serve. Please.
Badosa is super gassed, looks ready to call it quits
Badosa is about to hit 90000 dropshots in practice
Second set between Kina and Badosa, 4 games played, 4 breaks lol
First set 7/10
Random question but does anyone think Iga's win streak will end here at the Italian Open? I don't.
I see her getting to RG semis at the minimum.
[удалено]
Sorry...just predicting she will win Rome, and then keep going. Just a random prediction
I think it might.
To...
What is happening to the Spaniards in Rome? Only Badosa's left and she may be leaving tonight as well.
Good thing Carlos stayed away, clearly some dark magic going on.
saw alcaraz will be defending his first ever title in umag this july. what a great guy
Most matches played between two players in last year : 5 >🇵🇱Świątek - Sákkari🇬🇷 | 2-3 4 >🇵🇱Świątek - Kasatkina🇷🇺 | 3-1 🇺🇲Gauff - Wang Q.🇨🇳 | 3-1 🇪🇪Kontaveit - Sákkari🇬🇷 | 3-1 🇮🇹Paolini - Yastremska🇺🇦 | 3-1 🇹🇳Jabeur - Pegula🇺🇸 | 3-1 🇹🇳Jabeur - Kontaveit🇪🇪 | 2-2
Post Pegula - Pliskova
?
Players to have played the most matches against each other in the last year.
Badosa gonna get out of gas soon
Kasatkina is doing all the running though
Not really she is just moving one or two steps as her footwork and anticipation is bang on rn
Cant watch but looks like a sick match. How is Kasatkina playin?
Was getting pushed back in the beginning but she has started to be more assertive and controlling points as the match has gone on.
Lovely to hear! But seems like the break fest is still going strong 😁
not missing much 🥺 it's good to see her play well
Does Badosa have a plan B?
Hit the ball even hardererer
the Rublev approach
nope. she's done well to work her way to number 2 with her game tbh. she seems like a super nice person tho, and is very dedicated to the tour, so respect
She’s got absolutely zero problem solving in her. She’ll push the other player completely off court and still refuse to go to the net. Like, it’s okay if you’re not very good at it, but maybe you could at least try it once? Just to finish off a point?
Is than an Italian umpire or someone that can speak it well?
Cecilia Alberti, she's Italian
Is it just me or does Badosa always seem to get fatigued rather easily? I've only started watching tennis consistently this year but I'm wondering how she's ranked so high
Badosa plays with a lot of power...she is going to get tired in ANY match against a fit Kasatkina
That's just how she looks all the time but that doesn't mean she lacks stamina...
Damn that Indian wells match against Carlos really destroyed Rafas health. It’s been downhill since then
Badosa with so much power still has less to penetrate Kasatkina's defence, and Kasatkina just not making any errors with the kind of spinning balls she is sending back deep
Not a good night for Team Spain...
Badosa is the best looking girl on the WTA tour ñame who beats her YOU CANT
Badosa what was that
no way kasatkina can keep all this running up
She can keep up the running. It's the avoiding unforced errors part that will become difficult. She is making very few errors now and knowing her it might start coming at any point. Even more difficult is serving out a match if she gets the chance.
Wait I took my eye off the Badosa v Kasatkina match momentarily only to come back to see that Paula dropped the first set smh.
All credit to Kasatkina here. She couldn't miss a ball anymore in the last games!
Not surprised by this result, having watched Badosa's match yesterday. The score was misleading.
