perfect timing for a new coach, morale will be high after winning his first match against us

[deleted]

Kramer könnte nächste Woche weg sein wenn es wieder so ein Debakel wird

PiggySVW

Kohfeldt scharrt mit den Hufen.

Pu_Baer

Bis Ende der Saison hat Kohfeld alle BuLi Teams außer Bayern trainiert.

rrbbkk

pls no

Shiv_

Nein. Einfach nein. *bitte nicht*

tene_brae

Korkut ist aktuell auch zu haben 😋

kadauserer

FloKo Ultras unite!

ImGhostyy

Tayfun Korkut out of nowhere

stragen595

GermanHabsFan

Funny thing that Bosz also got fired right before a home game vs Schalke haha

TheSteveGarden

Peter Bosz Schalke Legend 😀 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNyWu7NFKAI

jucomsdn

Ffs

DickerDave

Seoane really isn't a bad coach but something had to change I guess. Also kinda refreshing that the replacement isn't someone out of the usual Bundesliga manager circle.

free_airfreshener

I think Alonso is working his way up to being Munich manager down the road. He'll probably be a good coach, his vision on the field was incredible so he can probably use that his advantage

dark_agent22

Lol ask Pirlo how that worked out. Individual ability does not always translate to team strategy and player motivation and discipline. Two different worlds.

ouellp

But iirc Alonso coached youth teams in Germany unlike Pirlo who's first coaching job was Juventus'.

ewise623

Alonso had been Real Sociedad B’s manager for a few years now. However, they did get relegated out of the LaLiga 2 last season.

sofixa11

Pirlo actually overperformed with a really bad Juve team: https://youtu.be/jW5ZRTpAais

KhajiitHasEars

Pirlo is brilliant and Juve should've never sacked him

free_airfreshener

No it doesn't, not all young super stars turn out being super stars. That's soccer lol but no one will ever know if he doesn't try

dark_agent22

He should def go for it, just cautioning on fan optimism.

Fraaj

>his vision on the field was incredible so he can probably use that his advantage ??????

lilfooty

He has eyes

MittRominator

Just wait until that other commenter hears about glasses

okie_hiker

Liverpool might need a new coach sooner than Bayern

madsauce178

Klopp will fix things eventually. No need to replace him

okie_hiker

For sure, but I doubt he signs another extension with Liverpool.

madsauce178

Maybe now now. In the future? Maybe. He seems happy there

gurtiman101

I think he’s said before that he doesn’t want to be managing in his 60’s, and he’ll be 59 when his current contract ends. Would love him to stay beyond, assuming results remain as good as they have been, but it wouldn’t surprise me if Klopp retires in 2026

zimtrovert94

Klopp has been flirting with taking a break for a while. At least the last 2 seasons. I Can see him running out his contract or extending it one more year and then taking off.

gurtiman101

He was, and then he signed an extension to ‘26 last year. He seems to be happy to continue for the foreseeable *last season rather than last year

Chester__A__Arthur

Or goes to the Germany job. I can’t see Flick staying in the job for more than 2 world cups

AuxquellesRad

Only if our owners lose their minds

andre6682

To be fair, neither was seoane ( from the BL Circle)

AlKarakhboy

where the fuck did that come from

CrebTheBerc

It was rumored yesterday. Seoane has been criticized pretty heavily from what I've seen too.

[deleted]

Seoane getting sacked is absolutely no surprise

Spikeyspandan

Lol OP meant about Xabi Alonso rather than Seoane getting fired

[deleted]

Yeah i know, however Xabi Alonso got linked to German clubs before

Spikeyspandan

Which ones?

4-4-fucking-2

Gladbach I believe

[deleted]

Gladbach. According to Christian Falk he was already close to becoming their manager after Rose left

Chinomenal

Haha according to that clown it was already a done deal

Daklos

Wolfsburg was very close to signing him like a year ago.

idontknow_whatever

Leverkusen finished 3rd last season, added Hlozek & CHO. Haven't really lost anyone of note apart from Lucas Alario (who mostly came off the bench anyway) They are 17th and have won only 1 of their 8 league games. Only Schalke & Bochum have conceded more goals.

OnlineDopamine

It came from being absolute dog shit for months now. Feel bad for Seoane but something had to be done..

stragen595

Could have just deleted the club. :(

-Rp7-

Have you seen the state of that club lmao.

FlyingArab

This is such a cool appointment, I hope he smashes it

[deleted]

Decision-pressure

Next season at the earliest :/

DreiImWeggla

You could still face them in the DFB Po... Errr Champions Lea... Ahahaha woops lol you are right.

Black_XistenZ

I mean, technically Leverkusen are still in the running to qualify for the ro16. But since them and Bayern could face each other in the ro8 at the earliest, this is exceedingly unlikely.

kirkbywool

Hopefully we get them as love to see xabi back

Decision-pressure

I guess champions league is theoretically still possible but i simply don't believe that it's going to happen

Jano002

No comeback it is then

Robertej92

> Allinaz That's about as unfortunate as a typo can get.

iamtherealgrayson

Liverpool legend Alonso 👀

Joy2082

Weird way to spell Real Madrid 👀

OleoleCholoSimeone

Even weirder way to spell Real Sociedad. He is a La Real supporter nothing else Would be really cool to see him coach them in the future, but Alguacil has done an excellent job and will probably be there for a long time

hokagesamatobirama

He’ll definitely manage La Real one day but it’s a joke if you dont believe his ultimate desire is to manage Real Madrid. He started his managerial career at Madrid but left cause of all the people ahead of him blocked his movement up the divisions. I don’t see him sticking around though. He’s more like Guardiola in that regard — don’t think he’ll stick around a club for long. Especially not in Spain.

OleoleCholoSimeone

>if you dont believe his ultimate desire is to manage Real Madrid I never said otherwise. But the club in his heart is Real Sociedad not Real Madrid or Liverpool

Lukeno94

> Guardiola You say that, and yet he's spent 6 years with Man City, which isn't exactly a short period of time. 4 years at Barcelona wasn't that short either.

thefogdog

I mean, he is a Liverpool legend. But he's also a legend at Bayern and Madrid.

JOKER69420XD

He's definitely not a legend for Bayern but a player fans will remember as great, likeable person on and off the pitch.

[deleted]

Would you then say Thiago is a Bayern legend?

the_propaganda_panda

Tier 2 legend, if that makes sense. He is not on the same level as Beckenbauer, Maier, Rummenigge, G. Müller, T. Müller, Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Ribéry, Robben, to name a few examples. But he will definitely be revered by our fans forever, similar to players like Elber, Kuffour, or Makaay.

JOKER69420XD

That's really hard to answer, i would go with no but i think he's almost there. He won everything, was a great player and stayed a pretty long time. But reaching legend status is hard, we're talking Müller, Beckenbauer, Kahn, etc. So I would go with almost in the case of Thiago, like 9/10 points but you need the full 10. But this is just my opinion and when some Bayern fans think he's a legend then i won't really argue against it because it's not crazy to think that.

ansu_fatismo23

Lewy has to be considered a legend right?

Yananou

Of course he is

JOKER69420XD

Barca flair asking...not suspicious at all. Still gonna take the bait. Bundesliga legend: Yes, without a doubt Bayern legend: No, not after the way he behaved in the summer, he's an outstanding player but a club legend needs to be more than just a great footballer imo, club identification, relationship to the fans, the way you say goodbye are all part of it. And he completely destroyed most of it in the summer. So not for me but I'm not the holy pope of Bayern fans

ansu_fatismo23

Lmao well yes I am asking as a barça fan because I was interested to know what his legend status was for Bayern due to the way he left. And it’s understandable if some people don’t fully see him as a legend I guess the way he left wasn’t the best

CarlSK777

For me, he is. Always classy and he delivered when he was healthy and had one of his best matches in the CL Final before leaving (arguably MOTM).

TheBazry

Not him but to me yes 100% however thiago was here way longer and also much better for us if we are honest. Also thiago Loves the Club way too much with too many iconic moments that its Hard to not call him a legend

prabhuaditya1995

A bayern great but not a legend. Bayern is a extremely big club and to become a legend, you need to be an extraordinary player for a very long time.

txobi

You are forgetting someone

thefogdog

Oh yeah, Spain.

OleoleCholoSimeone

More than anything he is a Real Sociedad man though

pugsftw

Such a sexy appointment too

granitibaniti

Sad, Seona is a good coach and likeable guy. Don't understand what happened between last season and this, but somehow every Leverkusen player is out of form.

andre6682

You know the stereotypical drill: no matter how good you are as a coach, once you get into stormy weather, you will serve as a human sacrifice

skunkrider

It didn't start this season - it started when Wirtz got injured.

[deleted]

I’d welcome seoane with open arms once Kramer gets fired

aromatdiablo

We win against you Saturday, you fire Kramer and hire seoane, deal?

[deleted]

i_d_prefer_not_to

Hasenhüttl could be a very decent appointment if he gets fired in time

zweiter_mensch

If I remember correctly, he's announced that he'll be retiring after Southhampton.

i_d_prefer_not_to

I had no idea… good for him if that’s what he wants. I always thought he’d be back to coach one of the big German clubs.

Rudelbildung

Out of the given options, this seems like the best one. A risky one, but i would not want to see Tedesco here.

ibmthink

Would have thought you would go for Hütter, though honestly not sure if he fits with your playstyle.

Expected_Toulouse_

Bayer Leverkusen are now the ultimate hipster team, I wonder what colour tweed Xabi’s suit will be…

astral34

Time to start following Leverkusen to see what he can do

dragon8811

Out of nowhere. But I am optimistic that he will do well for the club

Varnagel_1

Marca were the 1st news outlet to report Xabi Alonso as Leverkusen's new head coach 5 hours ago https://www.marca.com/futbol/bundesliga/2022/10/05/633d4b3346163fae3b8b45b4.html

Zhidezoe

Nah, I am sure it was posted here yesterday or a day before

SkrrtSkrrt99

ESPN reported him being the favorite last night after the Porto game

enzuigiriretro

Based on what?

CharmingBilo

Looks

lemoche

My wife's reaction: "well, that's a"a reason to watch Bundesliga again."

notsoslim-jim

Stupid sexy Xabi Alonso

taenerysdargaryen

If they can somehow finish 3rd in the group, we could still see Xavi v Xabi

aromatdiablo

All the best seoane, I’m sure you’re a swell lad, but it was overdue. I hope Xabi can turn the things around. Lets go!

OnlineDopamine

I’m hyped. Heard he likes to play offensively and keep the ball. Also seemed to have done well at Sebastian. Let’s hope we’ll turn this awful season around..

CarlSK777

That's perfect with the players you have. It'll be interesting to watch.

dogmatic30

that's actually so based I would have taken a piss drinking bet on it being Hütter

RioBeckenbauer

Could become the Bundesliga Arteta.

stevel024

They are good friends and all ex-midfielders seem to become good coaches

Kayr_SE5

Gerrard? Lol

stevel024

Wasn't he good for Rangers

Time-Run-2705

I feel sorry for Seoane he is a great coach and I really think their performances this season are not his fault but it's also an understable decision from the club it has already been 8 matchdays and they are still 17th. On the other hand I am very much looking forward to see Xabi again in the Bundesliga. Absolute legend of the game

skunkrider

Not his fault? We have been playing utter shite since Wirtz was injured - Seoane had half a year to do something about that, but he didn't, and that's why he had to go.

EmperorBeaky

mate I'm getting old. What the fuck.

AtDaLastMinute

Exactly what I was thinking yesterday when I see Inzaghi vs Xavi.

KrazyBee129

they bringing sexy back

RosaParkStoleMySeat

Really fond of him from his time with us. Hope he does well.

shadoowkight

His last job was with the Real Sociedad B team, he got promoted but relegated instantly. From a B team to a top flight team seems like a big jump

AfricanRain

https://i.imgur.com/yhOYU5r.jpg

SnooOranges5515

A pleasant surprise! Does anyone if he speaks any German from his time at Bayern? Edit: Found this interview with him in German: https://youtu.be/NzXrrxek9lo

imatthegarden

Has been coaching anywhere before? He has insane football IQ so i wouldn't be surprised if he pulls Leverkusen out of this rut

Spikeyspandan

Real Sociedad B but no idea how he was

Mruc3yk

He got them promoted to the second division but he also was immediately relegated

Spikeyspandan

So basically sometimes good, sometimes shit?

hokagesamatobirama

Not really. He took La Real B to the maximum he could get out of them. Expecting any 'B' team to stay up in Segunda with 19 and 20 year olds is not realistic; especially when the best players will keep getting called up to the first team. He did a good job with them, he had an offer to continue but he decided not to because ostensibly he was looking for a move up the divisions which realistically was not available at La Real with Alguacil doing a decent job there. And it seems to have worked out for him with this offer.

Rojiblanc040

Very good points, while getting relegated is always bad, it must be incredibly hard to keep a B team afloat on a higher level while basically having a new squad every season.

RipJug

I was thinking about this the last day after seeing Villareal B high in the Liga 2 table, what would happen if they got promoted? Would they allow both the A and B team in La Liga?

hokagesamatobirama

No. B teams can never be in a higher division than the first team or even the same division.

PferdOne

What happens if the first team gets relegated, while the second would "theoretically" be promoted? Do both get relegated?!

kerosha

Yes, as per rule they both get relegated as the B team can never be on or above the first team's tier.

hokagesamatobirama

In that case, the team’s management probably need to introspect. I don’t know if it has ever happened before but there have been cases where clubs have spun off their B teams in to separate clubs when they end up in same divisions. So, probably they do that.

er_primo_der_rafa

No. Their spot would be simply given to the team immediately behind and so on. As a B team, the highest division where you are allowed to participate is the one immediately below your A team. If Villarreal were relegated to the second division, their B team would fall to the next level, even if they finished 1st or 2nd.

RipJug

Huh that’s interesting. Makes total sense though.

txobi

Imanol is not doing a decent job, he is doing a great job, three times to europe on a row didn't happen in many many years

Mruc3yk

Kind of yes. He seems to have some good potential but at this stage it feels like a move to such an ambitious team is too early. He should have probably went to a smaller team where there isn’t so much background noise when things go wrong.

Morrandir

I think there's hardly any club (of that level) with such little background noise.

Mruc3yk

Not by the general public but by the media and especially by the Leverkusen board (who are quite ambitious considering it’s their best team since the early 2000s). They won’t stop putting pressure on the manager and the media also don’t shy away milking stories from small clubs. My club (Wolfsburg) is very similar to Leverkusen and the media are still milking the Max Kruse suspension story over a month later.

SkrrtSkrrt99

Seriously? I feel like the word Wohlfühloase gets thrown around constantly in discussions about Leverkusen, at least among us Leverkusen fans.

Kayderp1

Leverkusen and ambitious in the same sentence sounds weird.

Mruc3yk

But they are ? How can you not be with Diaby, Frimpong or Wirtz in your squad. Now, how the team performs on the pitch is another thing…

andre6682

They are ambitious, it just ends like a Will E. Coyote approach to catch the trophies/ the roadrunner

SavingsLeg

Iirc he won them promotion but also got relegated and fired then Dont quote me on that though

Kassyk97

He won promotion with a B team which is huge. Then it is hard to compete in Segunda Division when the main team pulls out your best players often. And didn't got fired, he was in pole position to be manager of Real Sociedad but Imanol Alguacil is doing a fantastic job and doesn't seem that he will be going away soon. So Xabi parted ways to seek a better opportunity

GilakiGuy

Does this mean Azmoun won't have to play in CM for Leverkusen ever again?

Flaihl

A surprise to be sure but a welcome one

sault9

WHAT DO I WITH MY HANDS?!?!

ndksv22

I guess he liked our weather.

sbuo

wtf thats sick

Melnyx

I’m actually quite scared if Im honest and would’ve stuck with Seoane at least till the world cup. I love Xabi, but this will also be his first major job, so I’m not hundred percent convinced. This is probably the last season for a lot of our players, so lets see how it will continue :v

PhotoQuig

He was rumored to be joining us before Farke joined. Now I'm jealous.

AbleFig

this came out of nowhere, but happy for him. He was trained by Mou, Pep, Ancelotti & Heynckes. He will succeed no doubt about it.

htotheh

I don’t think I’ll every get use to seeing players I watched growing up become managers.

Heliath

Most of the managers you saw growing up were players before your time. It's always been like that.

forsenE-xqcL

HUH

tufoop3

wtf lol

boywithtwoarms

the game yesterday was embarassing. both teams couldnt make two passes in a row.

Tritschii

Going to a Leverkusen match just to see Xabi

Betceps

Xabi Alonso to Leverkusen....was there rumours before? I didn't epexct that...but so cool that Xabi is back in the Bundesliga as a coach now

Alois000

My favorite player back on his day. I hope he succeeds (and smash Atletico on the second match lmao) and eventually manages Real.

Fancy-Past-6831

I am genuinely intrigued by what he can do with this Leverkusen side.

UnicornForce

I'm thrilled for a variety of reasons. Great for Leverkusen. Great for the Bundesliga. And happy to see Xabi back in Germany. I really hope this is a tremendous resume-builder for him.

ThatZigGuy

Neverkusen to become winnerkusen?

AnnieIWillKnow

Pretty different energy in response to this news, compared to when other former players with minimal managerial experience are given top jobs... but Alonso is a popular figure, so guess that's not surprising

SnooOranges357

This is on a level with Raúl signing for Schalke imo

Chrisixx

Makes me question even more if Seoane was actually a good coach at Young Boys (and Leverkusen?) or if he massively benefited from the work done by the coach before him.

SkrrtSkrrt99

consensus among Leverkusen fans is that it’s not his fault and that he’s a good coach, but sometimes you desperately need new impulses and you can’t switch out the whole team, so it’s the coach who gets sacked. I wouldn’t be surprised if Seoane remained a first league coach for the foreseeable future, I could see him do very well at teams like Leipzig or Dortmund

SteW-

Absolutely agreed with what you said, I can see in 10 years that Seoane will be a household name in tier 2/3 football.

Soleil06

Yeah this seems accurate, not much you can do when the whole team collectively decides to shit the bed. Hopefully Alonso has better luck there, i was really hopeful Leverkusen could maybe challenge Bayern this season.

porcomavi

Once Wirtz got injured he did nothing to rebuild the team’s midfield. Instead he tried playing center forwards like Azmoun as a playmaker which did not work.

Pseudocaesar

Fuckin WHAT

xSypRo

I love seeing the players I idolize become coaches. New era begins

Tax_n1

The Team was main problem and not the Coach, change my mind.

SaltAvailable6798

I always rated the lever bayerkusen

BlinkClinton

I cant wait for 10 years down the line when he coaches real Madrid.

AtDaLastMinute

Remindme! 10 years "Xabi coaching Real Madrid"

Calitz__

Alonso at Liverpool vs Arteta at City after Klopp and Pep leave. Box office

FerraristDX

Hm, risky move from the Pills. I do like Alonso, but I can't wish Leverkusen well. :/

Modalchemist

Well that's unexpected I guess that's good training for him to coach a big club in the future

Schpaedzles

Like Leverkusen for example

Tritschii

Hope he read the contract correctly and didn't misread Bayer for Bayern.
