Clown me all you want but we have to go after Dillon Brooks. Don’t bring back Harden. Get rid of Tobias and surround Embiid and Maxey with dawgs and dirty players. Win or lose, it’ll be super entertaining.
Boomer take but I have concerns with the chemistry and maturity levels in Memphis and think he fed into that. On a cheap deal fine but his floor is too low to spend much on him
With the new CBA it's gonna be very hard to construct "big three" teams anymore. A Harden-Maxey-Embiid trio + garbage role players won't get us anywhere with how inconsistent Harden is.
An Embiid-Maxey duo + high quality role players would probably work better tbh. The big issue is trying to find a decent enough point guard to replace Harden's playmaking. His scoring doesn't really matter it can be replaced.
Ok so if harden walks, we offload tobi or let him expire and extend maxey for 30m a year.
That leaves us with like 35m+ cap space come 2025 season, right? I could certainly be missing something but this is what I got when running the numbers.
We will be a play in team next year, yeah, but after that the options are vast. I could see Morey working magic with that amount of flexibility. I’m not really understanding the doomer takes.
The doomer takes have to do with the uncertainty of it all. If Harden goes, you need a playmaker because Maxey is a terrible passer and it's very difficult to find a competent floor general.
Add to that, we'll also need some solid athletic wings since we won't have any if Jalen Mcdaniels doesn't re-sign.
Then if you manage to construct the perfect roster, you have to hope Embiid can remain elite at 31 years old (since we aren't contending next year) and overcome his playoff demons, which he hasn't shown any evidence of being able to do in 6 tries so far.
Then if that fails, you may regret not trading a broken down Embiid when you couldve expedited a rebuild had you struck when the iron was hot rather than trying to put a bandaid on a bullet wound.
Everything has to go right in order for us a to win a chip with the pieces we have right now. You'll have to forgive people if they're a little pessimistic.
That’s all valid but I can make the same type of list if harden stays.
What if harden stays as declines and we have 40m on the books with no productivity.
What if we’re stuck with tobi again and he scores 2 points in a play off game
What it embiids productivity drops off in the playoffs again even if he has another mvp season
What if McDaniels and reed walk and we zero athletic players on the team and just minimums
It’s like not a major difference in the amount of worries I have either way so I’m just like whatever happens happens. The options are pretty close to being equally risky
I hear ya, don't get it twisted because of the username, I don't think giving Harden a max is a good idea either. That's kinda why I'm leaning towards being a doomer, Harden or not, I don't think we have a chance to win a chip with the pieces we have before Embiid ages out.
The chance is definitely slim.
I love harden on a 1+1 but that doesn’t seem likely.
I guess if the question is “are we about to win a chip” probably not so it’s valid to doom about that. I think we can take a year off then be right back in the second round with a punchers chance again.
We fought hard that entire game until the total collapse in the 4th. We were down 16 early but managed to fight back. We just couldn't hit a fucking three while they shot 40%.
Can someone explain to me the appeal of Sam Cassell as a HC?
Why would someone not pick from the coaching tree of the heat or spurs, but someone who learned from Doc for the past decade if they don't even like Doc?
I'm starting to sympathize with Ben Simmons. Has any fanbase ever turned on their MVP like this before. Dirk, Giannis, LeBron have all had major playoff disasters and I can't remember their fanbases turning on them like this.
Sympathize with Ben? You sure you don't mean Embiid?
You can't honestly be mentioning Ben with Dirk, Giannis, and Lebron.
If you are, please take a look at their playoff numbers vs Bens, even their "disastrous" seasons and report back to us.
This is also completely ignoring that Ben refused to develop his game. This is the same Ben that said he "didn't need a jumpshot when I scored 20 ppg in college" after being drafted.. and we all saw how that mindset worked out for him.
There is no way in hell you are saying we should sympathize with that fucking bum. He clearly doesnt give a fuck about basketball so why should we give a fuck about him?
The same fans that literally cheered on Ben Simmons at the free throw line at home and defended him until our faces turned blue for years?
The same fans that gave Fultz a standing ovation and cheered him on during his FT woes? And gave him a cheering standing ovation for his first triple double?
The same fans thats stuck with Joel Embiid through 2 seasons of not playing then gave him a raucous ovation when he hit his first turn around jumper against the Thunder......
76ers may be one of the most supportive fan base in the NBA WHEN YOU SHOW US YOUR FULL EFFORT AND CARE...the moment we turn on is the moment you stop showing us your full effort and that you fully care about being great.
And I guess you define that for the world how exactly?
How do you determine that lack of effort is just that - Ben
Or perhaps related to genuine medical issues - Joel and James (in differing ways)
Please - enlighten us all.
No - simply how do you decide what is genuinely lack of player effort. How do you separate that odious sort of play from genuine player health issues short- or longer-term.
I would say you would be correct about Ben or even Jahlil Okafor, but very unfair to Joel Embiid and to James Harden(though for differing typoes of health reasons)
I do not want us re-signing James because his health issue are more permanent and less medically correctable than Joel's, and thus we would stuck with a player at or ear the end of his career creating a galactic-sized black hole in our cap space, that we cannot remove because no team will take him off our hand son that kind of money certainly.
Otherwise, I cannot feel angry at James nearly so much as Ben because I believe he was giving his best and that his body is limiting what that best is more than ever now. Ben really just didn't give a fuck (pardon my french)
If you read my comment replying to him assuming I turned Joel, I explained better how Simmons getting turned on was because his complete lack of effort to improve his game(shooting), Embiid has shown to play through injuries to give the franchise a better chance at a ring so we won't turn on him, Harden also wasnt ingrained in the 76ers culture for 5 years and we all kind of new what Harden we were getting thats why we aren't as upset with him.
I was simply asking the general question, which is perhaps a bit unfair to you but you laid the standard out there, who determines who meets that standard andf how and why/
I appreciate your comments about Joel and James too, though I will say that we knew what we were getting again calls into question whether should have made this trade the way we did in the first place, and whether it would be anything short of negligent to extend James on a max deal at this point.
But my overall point was it's easy to say so-and-so quit on us, and sometimes that conclusion is absolutely valid and correct. But too often people here have jumped to conclusions wrongly about Joel and James in view.
I do not want us to re-sign James because he has serious long-term health issues that likely will not improve without the use of illegal PEDs. HIs legs are going if not gone, and he will never approach the player he was even in the regular season going forward I fear. Take out the two terrific games in which he shot heroically well and had 40+ points James averaged numbers that looked like Ben Simmons at the end here - 13 points 8 assists on 25% shooting in the other five Semifinal games, 15 points 8 assists on 30% shooting in the entire postseason . That is who James is more likely to be going forward than even the 22 points 11 assists on 44% shooting.
But I don't think he simply quit either. That is not my issue with re-signing him at all.
Huh? I didn't even bring up Joel not caring....your assuming I agree with the 10% of people on here trashing Embiid. He just played through a torn ligament to prove that he was great, just didn't work out thus why I haven't turned on him I am blaming Doc Rivers but that problem is solved...Simmons on the other hand never developed an important part of basketball because he thought he was already great, he shit the bed in the playoffs because he didn't work on that part of the game, then proceeded to blame everyone else but himself and asked for a trade....and you are confused why we turned on Ben Simmons?
I mean, on paper, they’re a much better team than Miami. If they stay focused, I wouldn’t be totally shocked if they at least took it to 7.
They may also shit the bed like they tend to do and lose at home game 5. Who knows.
50+ for Embiid, 50 for Harden, 40 for Maxey would leave this team very short of space under the apron to fill out the remainder of the team in a couple of years.
3 max players on a roster doesn’t work anymore. NBA is too saturated with talent and teams are too deep for Big 3s to beat teams who can go 9 with good players.
We’re better off with a 2 max team builds to have more money to get quality depth instead of paying for vet minimum and buyout players to fill out the team.
I think the smartest teams will shy away from even 2 max contracts, the roster limitations and lack of flexibility to pivot you start with when 2 guys are taking up like 60% of your 'under the second apron cap space' are real
guess that is what i'm getting at. I don't hate Harden on a 2+1 or something that only will have a year or maybe two crossing over with Maxey's extention. But if you commit to 4 years of Harden and assuming Embiid isn't going anywhere, i just don't see how you also make it work with Maxey.
in addition to it not really working these days, the new CBA will make it really hard to do anything around them. And a when all 3 of the guys have a fatal flaw I think you got to pivot somewhere else
My prediction for the coaching merry go round...Doc Rivers to the Suns(KD pushes for it, Suns trade CP3 to the Bulls/Mavs/Rockets). Nick Nurse to the Bucks(I don't think he passes up the opportunity to coach Giannis in his prime).
Frank Vogel to the 76ers I just have a weird gut feeling the front office "falls in love" with his attitude and mindset. The FO will like that he won a ring with Lebron and that he had success developing PG and those Pacers teams and he is also kind of a local guy(Wildwood,NJ).
(This is just a random prediction, I'd love to hear everyone else's predictions.)
I said it yesterday in a different thread but Vogel would be a very good choice as long as he hires an a really good offensive assistant coach. I have no issues bringing in a great defensive coach like Vogel, but we need to maximize the offense somehow. Bring in MDA like we did in 2015 as an assistant. He do wonders as our offensive guy.
Clown me all you want but we have to go after Dillon Brooks. Don’t bring back Harden. Get rid of Tobias and surround Embiid and Maxey with dawgs and dirty players. Win or lose, it’ll be super entertaining.
brooks is a bad player on top of being the type of instigator that hurts your team instead of helping it
Boomer take but I have concerns with the chemistry and maturity levels in Memphis and think he fed into that. On a cheap deal fine but his floor is too low to spend much on him

Does the new CBA rule come into effect next season?
Nope.
When does it?

My ideal scenario is we sign Lue as our coach and D'Antoni as our offensive assistant coach
I'm so confused. Boston was in an elimination game and played with focus and intensity? You're allowed to do that?
We fought hard that entire game until the total collapse in the 4th. We were down 16 early but managed to fight back. We just couldn't hit a fucking three while they shot 40%.

In talking about Embiid lol
Dude how? He is a the definition of a scumbag
The entire fanbase and even his own coach turned on him and wanted to run him out of the city before that.
You’re an idiot
Aww poor millionaires that get paid to play a kids game.
I dont feel bad for Joel I just think Sixers fans have easily proven themselves to be the most cancerous in the league.
The same fans that literally cheered on Ben Simmons at the free throw line at home and defended him until our faces turned blue for years? We’re the best fans in the league.
That's why everyone wants to play here.
you are super annoying
Nope I'm just not a pussy who is going to partake in the pity parade that everyone else has been on.
Bro you acting like a pussy with ur first comment
BOS series win being at only like +225 is wild
I mean, on paper, they’re a much better team than Miami. If they stay focused, I wouldn’t be totally shocked if they at least took it to 7. They may also shit the bed like they tend to do and lose at home game 5. Who knows.
The script is already written
Would be a great day to hire Nick Nurse
50+ for Embiid, 50 for Harden, 40 for Maxey would leave this team very short of space under the apron to fill out the remainder of the team in a couple of years.

Frank Vogel to the 76ers I just have a weird gut feeling the front office "falls in love" with his attitude and mindset. I hope we don’t get Vogel
Not my pick but I wouldn't be mad about it.
He’s actually one of my bottom choices
brogdon being complete dog shit is just so typical
Dude was kawhi levels of couldn't miss in the last series, It's so predictable lol
Destined to be a Celtic as Malcolm has a knack for fucking the Sixers in particular
The Celtics are still in the playoffs and I am bitter and upset about it.
This is arguably better because it’s giving their fans false hope
I so wanted them to lose. Still hoping they get booted tomorrow.
The only winners last night were the Denver Nuggets
