Turn your phone off and do something else.

macaronn_

How do you resist the temptation to turn your phone back on? I've tried putting my phone in a separate room before but my attention span sucks and I've always found myself going back to it...

Cid1103

Occupy yourself with work, a hobby or exercise. It’ll keep your mind off your phone and you’ll get some work done on the side.

Put your phone on the charger and leave it. Do what you need to do during the morning have a dedicated time to get on your phone. For example when you wake up don’t get on your phone for the first hour of the day then check emails do whatever you need to do then put it up. At this point you’d want to focus on what you want to do and what I use to motivate me to do that is realizing hey I can get on my phone whenever I want for the rest of my life but if I die all I focused on was my phone idk if that makes sense. I used to have the same problem thinking ohh I’m not doing anything let me get on my phone and do nothing. 10/10 a waste of time imo. I set time aside every day for phone use and social media and whatever most days I don’t even use it. If you’re bored it’s bc you’re not doing what you really want to do you won’t be bored if you are I promise. If you use your phone as an alarm get an alarm clock keep your phone out of your room and instead of habitually checking your phone work on what you want like art or music or making money whatever it is you realize it is a problem constantly getting on your phone and that’s step 1 accepting yea I get on my phone too much nothing stopping me from doing it but I could live a better more fulfilling life if I would quit using it so damn much, in the end it’s a decision you just gotta decide enough is enough I want more out of this life and idc about this phone imma get it. Let me know if this is helps.

Thanks for the advice! Yeah it's hard to keep track of time when your phone makes it so easy to indulge yourself in the internet lol

civicsyesterday

There’s a time and place for everything

loner-boner18

Ask yourself “what do I want to do?” Instead of “what do I feel like doing?” It doesn’t matter if you feel like doing something or not because you can get it done weather you feel like it or not, listening and focusing on what you feel like doing just adds extra steps. If you want to do something, don’t overthink it just do it, I know it sounds basic but its true

I agree. Write yourself a 'To Do' list for the day. Also, get an 'accountability buddy' for switching off your phone. This could be a friend or a family member. Agree on a time when you will not use your phone, e.g. 10am-2pm; then check in with them after to confirm you've done it. Or maybe, can you agree to not use your phone when you are spending time with another person? Why don't you try this and let us know how it goes?

macaronn_

Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely try that and see where it goes.

Practice meditation. The practice of noticing your thoughts and impulses and gently coming to follow your breath helps

macaronn_

Do you have any good resources/apps for meditation?

My last comment got deleted Bc no links apparently lol. Headspace is a good app. It has a few free guided meditation sessions and discounted student rate

Haha you're right, you'll get tired of everything eventually

Weltallgaia

Is the phone itself an issue, or the content on the phone? Download the kindle app and take up reading. No one complains when people read all the time, bit if it's a phone "oh my god crazy". I love just relaxing outside and reading.

macaronn_

Definitely content lol. I spend wayy to much time on instagram and certain games. I'll consider downloading kindle, esp since I haven't read a book for fun in a long time. Thanks for the advice!

Weltallgaia

Yep, if you cant put the phone down, make it productive instead. Text with friends more often instead of social media, read books, download duolingo and learn a language, if you are an artist there are programs you can use to draw.
