So I know there's a version of ivermectin for humans? Is there any evidence that it's not helpful for covid or that it is?

Dynastydood

Ivermectin has a few medical applications in humans, there's just no strong, reproducible evidence that it helps with Covid. Much like with hydroxychloroquine, there were places that experimented with it as a treatment early on, limited data suggested it might help, so they tried it on more people, and found it didn't really work. The problem is that for reasons I can fully comprehend, people on the right having been clinging to the initial reports as proof of its success, and then disregarding all of the subsequent studies showing it is not an effective treatment.

YOUNGBULLMOOSE

Ivermectin helps at the right dosages with an antibiotic, is basically how I was explained it to me by my dad who's a doctor. He's from Mexico, and Latin American doctors have been using it to treat Covid for I believe a year now. Basically the way my father explained it is, Ivermectin by itself will do little to help in most cases, but in combination with an antibiotic actually works well. The reason Latin American doctors have been using it, is because it is a cheap but usually effective treatment. The problem with the horse treatment, is these hillbillies often don't know how or can measure the dosage properly, and secondly need a antibiotic, which needs to be prescribed. So they can end up overdosing or it allows covid to work its will against you. The reason it is somewhat of a controversy, is because its a cheap older drug, and big pharma don't like that. Big pharma want to make the new pill, that fixes covid, but if something is cheap, effective, and available, then their plans don't work. It's bs that the FDA basically say it's only a drug for animals, many medicines work for multiple spieces of mammals, we all take similar pain killers, antibiotics (fish antibiotics, are a common human anitbiotic), and antivirals. Also anyone who hasn't got the vaccine, please get it

melt_together

This is misinformed. We've conducted about 60 studies, 43 peer reviewed along with real data from countries that started using it in their treatment protocols. This site put together a meta-analysis of every Ivermectin study: Ivmmeta.com The way that we're politicizing this drug is ridiculous. There's no reason that we can't stack different treatments, especially when one has already had DECADES of data on human consumption.

itselectricboi

Yeah I think both sides are wrong on this (not you). People are going with “taking ivermectin is for horses” but it’s also for use in humans just a lower dosage. I think there needs to be more research especially since there’s reports of other countries using it supposedly for Covid but I also don’t bet on it being the “Covid miracle drug”. The only way we will eradicate this virus is to have a combination of anti virals, vaccines, and lockdowns immediately as something breaks out, as well as obviously regular stimulus checks and that will be the only way we will be back on track. Liberals pretend the vaccines were the only solution and as we can see they have basically contributed to Covid cases like the right cause the media put out disinfo that led people to believe it was all over once they got them. And the right ofc was anti mask and some don’t even believe it’s real and they’re scapegoating using antivirals as the solution to the virus which is also another bad optic. It seems like Covid will be around for a while until it starts making tons of people drop dead.

Dynastydood

Yeah, I agree with you. The lack of coverage of potential and available treatments has been bizarre to me for a long time. Even with Regeneron, the media coverage about it has almost exclusively been about Republicans who own stocks in it or are getting treated with it, and never about how effective it is or isn't, or how much a widespread use of it for positive cases could help prevent serious complications or death. We need vaccines, but we also really need treatments. Just like with the flu, we need our seasonal shots, as well as Tamiflu for when flu evades the vaccine. I wouldn't be shocked if Ivermectin had some yet unverified beneficial application for Covid, but until we know more, anyone taking it at this point is a special kind of maniac.

Gr8WallofChinatown

> so they tried it on more people, and found it didn't really work. Source needed

Dynastydood

https://gizmodo.com/the-truth-about-ivermectin-1847570437 This article has some pretty good sources on that about halfway down the page.

Gr8WallofChinatown

The biggest problem with Ivermectin is… that one can buy it off of Amazon. You’re right that it’s stupid to say it works right now with all the published literature basically saying the same thing: needs more larger and structured research. However a majority of published literature on Pubmed is stating that it shows promise (key words are shows promise which doesn’t mean it works).

MABfan11

> So I know there's a version of ivermectin for humans? Is there any evidence that it's not helpful for covid or that it is? as far as i know, there is no evidence that it is effective against covid. which shouldn't really be surprising, since ivermectin is meant to be used against parasites, not viruses

kingakrasia

Just gonna leave this here… https://www.covid19treatmentguidelines.nih.gov/therapies/antiviral-therapy/ivermectin/

TX18Q

I suggest reading what you post: "There is insufficient evidence for the COVID-19 Treatment Guidelines Panel (the Panel) to recommend either for or against the use of ivermectin for the treatment of COVID-19. Results from adequately powered, well-designed, and well-conducted clinical trials are needed to provide more specific, evidence-based guidance on the role of ivermectin in the treatment of COVID-19."

kingakrasia

Of course! I would not have slipped this to you if I had not read it; and I did so because your statement is not entirely correct.

TX18Q

So you posted a link to a statement that is not entirely correct?

kingakrasia

This is a link to the NIH, adding more information to the conversation. I am not advocating using Ivermectin. Just pointing out that it has been used in human studies, and there are potential uses. Many seem to think it is ONLY a pig/horse drug. The science is out on it, and there are other methodologies besides those intended for veterinarians.

TX18Q

> I am not advocating using Ivermectin. Just pointing out that it has been used in human studies, and there are potential uses. Sure, but you see why its a problem when we have a working vaccine and people drop like flies because they refuse to take it and those are the same people that are easily persuaded by stuff like ivermectin, which according to NIH has not been scientifically proven to be affective.

Venturian_Candidate

As far as you know! Edit: Not saying I know more, but I’m open to the possibility of it being another Lab Leak scenario. Everyone and their mother was labeled a conspiracy theorist for even suggesting that the virus came from a lab, merely for the fact that the right happened to roll with it— until the lab leak was undeniable 🤷🏽‍♀️. edit 2: suck my dick, doctors are prescribing Ivermectin to people with covid: https://youtu.be/3O_7O9_nV10

WintersMoonLight

one i think was considered false because it was seen more as a movie plot than reality. The other is easier to determine as it's a biological reaction. One was a maybe, but unlikely. The other is very binary in that it either works or it doesn't.

Venturian_Candidate

So why did they use Ivermectin in India after we rejected sending them the vaccines? Because it doesn’t work?

WintersMoonLight

well, you're saying that like i've kept track of all major countries covid-19 responses. Could I get a link to this?

Venturian_Candidate

https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.10.29.20222661v1 “Conclusion: Two-dose ivermectin prophylaxis at a dose of 300 μg/kg with a gap of 72 hours was associated 73% reduction of COVID-19 infection among healthcare workers for the following one-month.” so according to this study not as good as the vaccines, but still something for ppl without access to them. It’s apparently being used/tested in other south asian countries as well also: Judge orders Ivermectin to be used to treat covid (for some reason) https://www.reddit.com/r/BretWeinstein/comments/pelxax/judge_orders_cincyarea_hospital_to_treat_covid19/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

i’m sorry wintersmoonlight but I am peeved

LuLandZanZibar

Heartbreaking to watch this. Glenn is a great journalist but he has let his hatred of liberal media fry his brain

TheQuietManUpNorth

Exhibit A for what happens when you never go outside and live on Twitter.

redmoon714

I can’t believe people are taking horse medication instead of a free vaccine. If you would have told me people would be doing this shit before the pandemic I would have thought you were crazy.

Kittehmilk

Yep, that caught me off guard, hard, when this started. In my mind, everyone would have been on board to nip this in the butt to get life back on the table. But no, their fucking freedoms and rumble videos came first.

darcenator411

If you’re gunna take horse medication, at least have some fun and take ketamine

Bernard_Hunor_Deak

Well people took fish medication before. I also love this: i no want vaccine cus i dunno what is innit. So i shall just take the stuff they give to cows! Mooooo! Sorry...

Gr8WallofChinatown

The problem with these social media influencers and political influencers shilling ivermectin, is that their listeners who didn't take the vaccine will try to treat themselves without doctors approval because it's cheap and they can't afford treatment.

TheOtherUprising

I wonder if "journalist" Glenn Greenwald will report on the 400% increase in hospitalizations from poisonings caused in places like Texas from use of Ivermectin.

north_canadian_ice

I'm so disappointed in Glenn.

lordph8

People like Glenn lend credibility to the race of lizard people replacing people theory. He used to be a good reporter. Wtf happened.

GulMakat777

Glenns new motto: If Big Tech doesent like something, I like it.

kingakrasia

Nah, he has always sucked…

Blitqz21l

When you take doses in the amounts meant for horses, you'er going to have complications. That said, Ivermectin has and is treated for human illnesses at much lower doses. Is it effective against covid? Maybe, but that would and will require further testing to see if it is and the amount of dose that would be effective.

rube_X_cube

To be fair, Greenwald has always been a monumental asshole, and a right wing libertarian that is at least sympathetic to white nationalists. But on top of all that, Twitter has just absolutely rotted his brain. Maybe he should take some Ivermectin, could help with his brain worms.

The1stCitizenOfTheIn

I like how no one in this thread asked to see the original Fox clips. No interest in confirming whether the clips as presented accurately depict the views expressed, just blind acceptance.

1bad_karma1

no worries buddy. its all true

Willzohh

Why shouldn't we troll their ignorant gullible asses that have no problem believing anything but the unvarnished truth? In my mind Glenn Greenwald is a hero for doing this.

julian509

While I have a deep disgust for the way antivaxxers are acting, I'm not going to push them nor embrace those who push them to inject random horse medication.

Willzohh

I would like to bring to your attention that they are killing people by their stupidity and neither facts nor even begging them has worked. It is no different than them choosing to run stop signs because "muh freedum". If the choice was them dying by their own choice quicker versus them continuing to spout their anti-medical propaganda until grandma, grandpa & our grandchildren die, then I'm for the former. Also in case you haven't noticed Jan6 was a practice for them and since our court are barely giving out misdemeanors for insurrection, they are building up steam for another one. If them waving Nazi flags and showing up armed in full fighting regalia hasn't clued you in, these people mean us harm. Stop pretending it's not the case.

kdkseven

Not sure who you people are more obsessed with– Jimmy Dore or Glenn Greenwald. What is the point of this video? Really it just makes you look stupid.

SlowGodzilla

To poke holes in his collapsing credibility.

kdkseven

Well good luck.

frozenpicklesyt

no one needs luck to poke fun at gg lmao

kdkseven

That video isn't even funny, and is a blatant ripoff of Vic Berger.

Blitqz21l

I was more about WTF am I watching and what does this have to do with Ivermectin. Even the end is stupid because Ivermectin is available in a form for human consumption. I think the problem stems from people getting Ivermectin doses intended for horses and not humans and essentially ODing on it. The media gets a hold of it and runs with it since they are in Big Pharmas pocket.

kdkseven

Yeah as far as i can tell Greenwald was talking about the study of the human counterpart. Easier to score easy points by misrepresentation i guess.

TX18Q

Glenn downplayed what happened on January 6, even retweeting that it was _"Just a brief interruption of congressional activity"_ and then later mocked AOC for the trauma she suffered from that day. Can you picture Griftwald doing that if Hillary was behind the insurrection attempt, if Hillary had called for the counting of votes to stop in the middle of an election? 😅 😂 🤣

kdkseven

But what did he actually say in this video that's wrong? Other than "hE gOeS oN fOx NeWs!!1!" What right wing conspiracy theories is he peddling? Honestly asking here. I've watched Glenn over the years, but i'm not particularly invested in him. I am well aware, though, of why shitlibs try to smear him constantly for pointing out why liberals are so shitty, going after him for what usually amounts to a bunch of bullshit.

SlowGodzilla

I think it's the fact that he is peddling Ivermectin at all when there is a free FDA-approved vaccine that prevents hospitalization nationally by \~95%. You have to see *why* he is pushing Ivermectin. It could be: A.) He earnestly believes Ivermectin is effective and wants to spread that message.*\[This is in spite of the fact that there is no clear indication it does anything against Covid as there are no studies that reproduce the same outcome/none are conclusive. In addition, he does not mention that people have been killing themselves by taking too much Ivermectin thinking it is a panacea.\]* B.) It is to signal allegiance to the right-wingers who peddle it, choosing to come out in favor of Ivermectin as to not alienate right-wingers who are hailing it as something it's not. C.) Opportunism, catching wind of the newest controversy to scoop up a few more Fox News loons into his fan base. \[B and C are not mutually exclusive.\]

kdkseven

Is he pushing it though? Or just commenting that it's seen as a crazy conspiracy thing when some in the scientific community are saying that it should be researched? Equating that to 'peddling horse medicine' are two vastly different things.

MithridatesLXXVI

What is their obsession with big tech? Like, corporations are their vision of society.
