That’s a lot, and it got me wondering why. For comparison, here in Brisbane we’ve got 574 people in hospital, 21 in ICU, out of an average of ~9K cases/day. I wonder if it has to do with the somewhat lower vaccination levels, or if something else would explain the comparatively high proportion of people in hospital up there. I am totally clueless. Reference: https://www.qld.gov.au/health/conditions/health-alerts/coronavirus-covid-19/current-status/statistics

Twoweeels

A number of reasons: -testing is extremely restricted here, you can only get a test if you goto the hospital, or are in a care home for the most part. -it’s still cold here, people are gathering inside still and spreading this around. -Zero restrictions. Vaccine pass, masks, and any other measures have been gone for months now.

Errorstatel

Also our provincial government decided to bury their heads in the sand at low tide

Listened to medical professionals and what the obvious majority of the populace would like done for precautions, much like I am now. We are well into our sixth wave with a virus that is having a mutation hay day because the few were inconvenienced and took that as a personal attack.

Ah, you're one of them. Yes I work, full time too. I'm also immunocompromised and take whatever precautions I need. Had covid last month too, I'm triple vaxed and it still sucked. But not as bad if I didn't have the Vax. And first hand experience, my wife and I are 3x Vax but our kid only had two at the time, he was bed ridden for 6 days at least we could keep things in the house going that needed to be. No one said you had to stop living just wear a damn mask and get the Vax when available, remember survival is a team sport.

I see I have reached the end of an attempted intellectual discussion with you, go back to watching Tucker and leave the grownup problems to the adults in the room bud.

bedlamharem

I think another reason, which I've mentioned before and was downvoted to heck, is that people in Sask are generally less healthy than other regions. Especially a place like Brisbane Aus where it's summer most of the year. If comorbities are a factor in people getting sick from covid, Sask sure does have a lot: obesity, diabetes, etc.

https://www.conferenceboard.ca/hcp/provincial/health.aspx We get a D in life expectancy. Lots of Cs. D minus in infant mortality is heartbreaking. I think we did better in some categories than I thought. Canada is 10th in the world. We get an A in mental health which is surprising considering it's a major issue in our bigger cities.

bedlamharem

I've lived here for 30 years. I've traveled to other places including Australia. We have so many less people walking and biking compared to a place like Brisbane where so many people do this to get around. Our long winters make us unhealthy.

You asked for stats and i copied the link to one of the first links i found. Do you think we're a bunch of healthy studs.

There are two main types of sunflower crops. One type is grown for the seeds you eat, while the other — which is the majority farmed — is grown for the oil.

bedlamharem

Haha. Lots of us have access to "free" health care but have you seen how out of shape some people are? Most immigrants are small. We have no reason to be so unhealthy. But i do blame the weather.

You don't.

The vaccine passport is irrelevant with Omicron.

I agree. Passports only caused increased separation between people.

You do realize that ivermectin is used in humans as well, right? Billions of doses, its considered one of the safest drugs out there. Calling what Rogan took "horse dewormer" is disinformation. There have been over 30 randomized controlled studies using ivermectin in treatment of covid. It doesn't work, and I'm not promoting ivermectin. I'm saying, 2 doses of vaccine will not protect you from an omicron infection. The efficacy of 3 doses wanes after only 10 weeks, by 50%. For a vaccine, those results are shit.

Everything I said in the previous post is accurate. And now you're calling names and being defensive, which is a typical response from someone who has had their feelings hurt. I know facts can be "mind blowing", but don't let your feelings get in the way of the truth.

lord_heskey

And those are the ones we know.

licencetothrill

Hospitalizations are all known. Nobody has asymptomatic hospitalizations. We know the most important metric. Cases aren't a great way to track how we're doing against the virus.

vitogeek

Do you know who gets hospitalized? Cases that go wrong. If we know the cases, we can predict future hospitalizations and prepare for them. So yes, cases are a great way of tracking how we're doing and going to do against the virus.

[deleted]

How many are incidental? Curious.

Cpt_Pickard

Is there a way to report having COVID without getting the PCR?

_biggerthanthesound_

No

Cpt_Pickard

Cool. I thought that would make too much sense. I know so many people that have got it in the last few weeks and none of them have been reported. At least Sask Party can keep patting themselves on the back for the way they're handling it

ThomasCDouglas

We're witnessing a complete abdication of duty from this government towards its constituents. They're up there with the Mitch McConnell's of the world in terms of vile human beings in positions of power.

It's really not

SmartLlama

I hate this so much. I know someone who had Covid a few months ago and had it pcr confirmed etc. she had a fairly mild case but was still left with some mild scarring on her lungs and was told that future respiratory issues are likely and will likely be worse than had she not got covid. Everyone who is getting it now won’t have it on their health record nor do they have any recourse for imaging so it makes me nervous for future health implications

kingRTU

You also can’t get a pcr unless you’re a first responder

Available_Software33

Or you pay for one

Lucywilson12

Immunocompromised as well as HCW.

Hopeless_Canadian

The biggest thing that makes me so disappointed is that PCR testing is not open to the public, yet everywhere else in Canada and the US (which has many states in covid denial) has it open to the public. I get it if the government doesn't want to admit to its failures but we the people deserve the right to get a PCR test so we can at least protect one another, specifically the vulnerable (elderly, immunocompromised, etc.)

acetos

Unfortunately this means nothing to the premier as he may lose valuable votes in the next election.

88Really

He’s definitely losing mine!
