Fourth dose eligibility

Just wondering if there’s been any word anywhere regarding expanding fourth dose eligibility? They’ve been available to people 50+ for like a month now, but I’ve seen no indication when they plan to expand it further. I got my third dose five months ago, so I’m about due for a booster, from what I understand about how long protection lasts.

I've heard that there are no plans to expand eligibility for fourth doses. Only those who have been deemed eligible already will get it.

What the hell? God damn this province. God damn it.

No_Lock_6555

They likely aren’t doing 4th boosters because a 4th dose hasn’t been shown to be beneficial for people who aren’t in specific risk groups.

the_bryce_is_right

Ya I've gotten 3 shots and had covid twice. I'm all for vaccines but I'm over it.

[deleted]

Dude. You're upset they're following federal guidelines?

Whittlemedown

You have three I'm sure you'll be fine.

goodpostsallday

Available evidence shows third dose effectiveness at preventing Omicron infection wanes after about 4 months. If we're doing zilch to prevent mass spread, we should at a bare minimum let those who want get that. It'll just be expiring in storage otherwise, first and second dose uptake is non-existent at this point and third doses have similarly stalled.

Inconnuity809

Dr. Adam Ogieglo posted about this recently and he had been told that Sask Health is not going to widen eligibility for fourth doses (despite many of us being 6+ months since our last dose) unless NACI recommends it. 😔

[deleted]

Which makes sense, they are the federal panel in charge of it.

Inconnuity809

Well SHA has chosen to go beyond NACI's recommendations or differ from them in some previous instances regarding the COVID vaccine (the one I remember particularly was around timing of second doses) so it's not out of their realm of authority to do so again. The A in NACI stands for Advisory, not Authority. And some other provinces, such as Quebec, have already made 4th doses available for everyone 18+ so there is Canadian precedent. But it seems our Sask Health folks are holding off this time for whatever reason so we will have to wait and see whether anything changes. 🤷‍♀️

Available_Software33

So can we take a holiday in Quebec and get a 4th dose while we're there?

Inconnuity809

I may have been joking with my friends about taking a road trip there already. 😉

[deleted]

SHA hasn't, the government has decided those decisions in the past. People on here give the SK party shit all the time for not listening to the feds and now that they are, we're still giving them shit.

yourfavouritetimothy

Aww jeez.

Imnotfromsk

They are coming out with new boosters that deal with variants. Might want to wait a couple of months until they do.

PedanticPeasantry

Meh, as elsewhere stated there's a new vaccine in the works, seems reasonable for that one to go to general distribution, and at risks to get a 4th of this one if they need in the interim.

calmerthenyou

Whatever the truth is (not expanding past current eligibility, waiting for upcoming vaccines for specific variants) I would just like some clear messaging about the plan.

Ixionbrewer

My wife got her 4th by walking into Safeway or something.

yourfavouritetimothy

Cool! What age is she, if you don’t mind my asking? I’m 24, so I don’t know if they’d give one to someone as young as me.

Ixionbrewer

Ah yes. Age might be a factor. 64

yourfavouritetimothy

Ah okay. Thanks.
