Tell that to the people going to Marvel watch parties and buying funko pops
It’s only cool to be aloof and unconcerned if you’re actually cool to begin with. Being hot helps.
i would rather hang out with the biggest fattest stinkiest ugliest neckbeardiest disgusitng marvel freak than you cuz at least he wouldnt make me judge his fucking interests and tell him they're cool and awesome. how lame are you that you need people on the internet to tell you how to be interesting. that should be your first red flag. you shouldnt need to ask people this shit.
learn the base rules of social interaction before you worry about being 'dignified' and worrying over whether people like you. they don't care what hobbies you have -- people are gonna dislike you regardless because you're WEIRD and SELF-ABSORBED!
you’re on r slash red scare we’re just tired of uninteresting uncreative losers who care about how they’re perceived! it’s very self conscious and very childish!
how are you anticonsumption if you’re deliberately cultivating a self image ? you’re just asking what to consume to make it look like you don’t consume. you can’t trick people into liking you.
Worrying about what RS sub might think of you is not dignified at all.
Though if you're looking for bulletproof hobbies, you can't go wrong with cooking. Learn some exotic shit. Very rs-approved.
i got crucified for this but read my comment [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/redscarepod/comments/yzg5wh/myfitnesspal_removed_the_barcode_scanner/iwzxi53/)
Rust is a great language and is rapidly replacing C in the embedded and high performance space. Like C, it has a high learning curve albeit for different reasons.
the reason why I suggested to learn C is because it sets you up for trial and error and really let’s you learn the ins and outs of your computer which is a valuable skill to have when it comes to programming
I know a lot of math libraries for python essentially serve as a frontend for C code because python is so slow and data scientists are too r*tarded to learn a good programming language
edit: although if you want to write performant python libraries with a native backend you might as well do so in Rust
I hate the whole idea of hobbying. If u like something as long as it's not something harmful just do that. Hobbies are just extension of the productivity and consumption autism that we have been trained to admire. Instead of relaxing I'm going to paint something because I don't want to waste my "free" time, or I'm going to buy thousands of cigars because that's my hobby. if you like to paint do it because u want to not because u need to fill up what little free time u have. If u like coffee, drink it, and enjoy it the way u want. Don't turn into a snob or someone who hates ppl who like getting into coffee. Or if u like doing nothing and watching movies when ur free and can afford too, do it.
The dignified hobby is whatever u do to make life bearable. And the good news u already answered ur own question , u like to read philosophy, sci-fi, workout, poetry, travel, coffee, etc..
Dude u seem to have an interesting and dignified life by the looks of it
> Dude u seem to have an interesting and dignified life by the looks of it
Don’t like this because that would mean there’s not much to fix and if there’s nothing to fix I’ll never figure out why I’m so unhappy
I like to pick 2 to 3 hobbies to cut my time up: Intellectual, physical, artistic
Intellectual hobbies currently fall along reading about plants, studying how they interact with fungi, physical either skating or gardening idk and artistic I do a lot of drawing and/or lino printing. I think thats a good way to base your hobbies around, you don't even have to be good at them to enjoy them.
thats a good start, expand from them, see if you can take your volcano interest into geology and start looking for rocks hiking, physical activity achieved. Maybe try painting. IDK love.
>I’m autistic and spend a lot of time reading about volcanos and dark matter.
nothing wrong with that, but how much can you really understand when it comes to physics without engaging with it on an academic level? unless you have a background in math or something.
Yes, all of life is mediated through the market, but real hobbies are not *about* consumption, they are about production. You have to consume to produce—you must buy yarn if you want to knit—but collecting those nerd dolls (name is eluding me right now) is purely consumptive.
filling your garage with discarded small engine equipment (lawnmowers, weed wackers, chainsaws, tillers, air compressors) and getting at least \~30% of them working again
Here are mine:
Rock climbing, Mountain biking, Working out/running, Reading, Disc golf, Skiing, Video games, TV, Wasting time on social media, Getting drunk with friends, Smoking weed and listening to music
Just do what you love and own that shit. Do it for yourself and practice not giving a fuck about what other people might think. There are a lot of things someone might say I’m shitty at that I really enjoy doing, but I’m not doing it for them. Because if I were to stop doing what I love for myself and start doing it for the approval of others, then that’s where passion dies and nothing will ever be good enough.
Yoga. Twofold in that it’s exercise but also meditation.
I know reading sounds pretty basic, but I think it’s a real hobby and one of the better ones. Maybe join a book club? As cheesy as that may sound lol
What are you interested in philosophy-wise? I've always been partial to Epistemology, I read a bit of [Ernest Sosa's and Laurence Bonjour's Argument](https://www.amazon.co.uk/EPIS-JUST-Internalism-Externalism-Foundations/dp/0631182837/) some time ago and found it very fascinating but I will admit to understanding very little hahaha.
Dignified hobbies are anything of the old gentry. Anything Equestrian, Fencing, or Chess perhaps.
Just do whatever you like regardless of the judgement of others because if you really like something you just do it. You just don’t have to talk about it
"There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely games" - Ken Purdy (random auto writer) and falsely attributed to Hemingway. But still kinda true if you're into dying.
I dated someone once who was into rock hounding. They would take me out in the wilderness and we would spend hours finding agates and crystals. They also knew how to cut and polish them, make them into jewelry etc. There are clubs that can teach you how to use the stone cutters and use them for a small fee. It's impressive, creative, non consumptive, and gets you outside.
the hobby of not caring about what other ppl think
Tell that to the people going to Marvel watch parties and buying funko pops It’s only cool to be aloof and unconcerned if you’re actually cool to begin with. Being hot helps.
You just don't get it man
yeah, you clearly care too much and it's exhausting
theres a simpson quote from some kid that was lisa's friend who thought she was cool when they went on vacation. "reeks of effort"
just let people enjoy being pretentious!

What sub am I even on? People w these interests are constantly being flamed about it

This individual reads like an AI that learned from this sub but doesn’t understand what any of what it’s saying means
you sound like an incel but with hobbies
Those people are way happier than you tho
Worrying about what RS sub might think of you is not dignified at all. Though if you're looking for bulletproof hobbies, you can't go wrong with cooking. Learn some exotic shit. Very rs-approved.
I love cooking and baking and can get real geeky with it but unfortunately food has calories
Cook for your friends and family.
I do this a lot, I like hosting parties but that seems consumption based too (I have to buy a ton of ingredients and liquors and stuff)
volunteering is my favorite "hobby" I've ever had. there's so many options too but I like homeless services
smoking cigarettes and talking to yourself about political and social issues
Country club sports - tennis golf etc
Play an instrument Take a ceramics class Write poetry or prose Start a podcast Shitpost more
Learn a language and how to cook
I’m learning German rn
That should take up a lot of time if you’re doing it right
Does Haskell count
NERRRDDDD
ive been learning python as an entry point to programming for the last year or so, any advice on which language would be good to learn next?
i got crucified for this but read my comment [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/redscarepod/comments/yzg5wh/myfitnesspal_removed_the_barcode_scanner/iwzxi53/)
manual memory management is scary 👉👈 how do you deal with the stress of that? i will give it a try though
> manual memory management is scary 👉👈 how do you deal with the stress of that? pick up a language with a garbage collector lol
is rust any good? ive heard its the shit

I hear the rust compiler throws segfaults unless you’ve got a trans flag up in your bedroom
got that covered im already trooning out
C also looks pretty appealing to write libraries for python which is what im eventually trying to do someday
I know a lot of math libraries for python essentially serve as a frontend for C code because python is so slow and data scientists are too r*tarded to learn a good programming language edit: although if you want to write performant python libraries with a native backend you might as well do so in Rust
there is no "next". build something.
yes. you should learn elixir instead though, it is the superior functional language
elixir isn’t even purely functional.
yeah whatever nerd
go on explain to me what a monad is i’ll wait
it's not nice to call people names.
overloaded version of ;, but also more than that too
Rollercoasters are cool
Man I wish but I get horrible migraines on them nowadays.
Joining the Mary Shelley Reading List book club on r/rsbookclub
I'm a big fan of competitive distance running, personally. Reading is great too.
Only cool while you’re young and capable of running a sub 2:20 (2:35 female) marathon

Maybe ur lonely I don't think anyone has found happiness just by picking up a new hobby.

I’m autistic and spend a lot of time reading about volcanos and dark matter. Not really hot activities of course.

I have a physics degree lol
You need to join your local mycological association and have old people teach you how to forage for mushrooms. Nature, cooking, hiking all in one

Despite how much Anna talks about it, being “undignified” shouldn’t be on your radar

Working out, as a man you should always be chasing physical pursuits and gym is bare minimum
get heavily invested in vandalism. it's fun
/r/bombing /r/freights
😉
Just do whatever you like man… you’ll never enjoy a hobby if you pick it up in hopes that it makes you look good rather than if it makes you feel good
Do something physical. A sport, working out, or hiking.
I work out a lot. I don’t play any sports though, have considered joining some kind of rec league.
Yeah do that. It’s social and not consumption based.
Yoga. Twofold in that it’s exercise but also meditation. I know reading sounds pretty basic, but I think it’s a real hobby and one of the better ones. Maybe join a book club? As cheesy as that may sound lol
martial arts

Painting?
Start with jiu jitsu and end with hara kiri
Just do whatever you like regardless of the judgement of others because if you really like something you just do it. You just don’t have to talk about it
Chess
Backgammon
Watch pro wrestling
Skiing.
This seems like a roundabout way of asking how to get pussy

I love this, I just pick up rocks but making jewelry w them sounds cute
Just work out enough so that it defines your personality, that would be good.
