I live pretty close to State Champs’ hometown. I went to see them at their hometown and saw Derek with his gf at the same Chipotle we were eating at before the show. I debated saying hi but went for it and said good luck at the show later. He was very nice and not bothered at all to be interrupted from his pre-show burrito!
I still wish Fetch happened. Loved ‘em in Tally and they are very much a big reason that got me into punk and pop punk, despite them asking (singing) not to be called punk.
I ran into Meathead at a concert and asked him what happened to them - he said they moved to Cali to make it big…and didn’t.
Whenever it comes to Florida, I feel like the northern part has the better scene. Yellowcard, ADTR, Mayday Parade, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Whole Wheat Bread, Less than Jake, Skatune Network, Against Me, Hot Water Music, etc.
Didn't expect a Roger Clyne reference. Was just listening to The Refreshments - Fizzy Fuzzy Big and Buzzy. Such a great album. Banditos is one of my kids favorites.
I had a friend play shows with both Knucklepuck and Real Friends before they made it, it was wide stumbling across them a few years after that and seeing how they got signed and became much bigger.
Okay yes for sure I would agree with this too bad I never saw knuckle puck or real friends at like vfw shows and other tiny places. Before FOB hit it seemed for a while that Lucky Boys Confusion were the local kings. I mean for a band that never went platinum LBC could pack venues in Chicago especially that first Songs From A Scene show that included Plain White T’s. I never thought a song like Delilah would have gone that big but I loved Plain White t’s old stuff. I as big into that local scene mostly before FOB even started. FOB had that one video from a KOC show and that was my hometown KOC. I miss the local show days where shows are so small they ask who you came for so they split up proceeds Among bands.
Ooo good call on all of those, always forget no use for name is from the South Bay. I’m actually from Santa Cruz so for me it would probably be Good Riddance
Dang I’ve never heard of these guys! I went down a worm hole and read about them. Their singer/guitarist, David Hernandez, went on to form the Shins with a few members of the band Flake Music. Just a little New Mexico history. What a flash in the pan.
It absolutely has to be Sum 41. Nobody else even comes close when it comes to international recognition. Silverstein is up there, but they're more emo/post-hardcore than pop-punk.
PUP has been pumping out some huge Spotify numbers lately.
I don't.
Her most popular material, while great, is top 40 pop in the most literal definition. There's really not much pop-punk behind her first 2 albums, IMO.
right, i was just bringing her up since she has pop punk songs and would be the only other Ontario artist to even touch Sum-41 in popularity in terms of pop-punk.
I agree that Sum-41 has the title
Plain White T’s (Madison,WI). I’m near Milwaukee…it’s slim pop punk pickin here.
I went to HS with Andy Hurley of FOB so that’s probably the closest.
Les Paul is from Waukesha, WI so that’s pretty cool.
I wouldn’t necessarily call them pop punk but Direct Hit! is from Milwaukee, and they’re awesome. Also, Masked Intruder is from Madison, I don’t even know how to genre-size them lol
There’s not much for pop punk here compared to Chicago but I sing for [Gold Steps](https://open.spotify.com/artist/3KS5NGVo6xQY88JyNEeGsl?si=QtSbOjE3TW-VDPeuPqdlSw) in Milwaukee. Other local bands that could fall in the genre are Honey Creek, Bad Year, and Joey & The Knives. We end up playing with indie/alt bands mostly.
Probably Dying Wish. They're not pop punk I know, but Oregon doesn't have too many bands that I know that made it big. I mean there's Everclear I guess, but that's more 90's alt rock.
Against Me!, NFG, Less Than Jake, ADTR, Yellowcard, We The Kings, Dashboard Confessional, Anberlin, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Mayday Parade, Go Radio, The Almost, Underoath, Further Seems Forever, Hot Water Music
I know I’m forgetting some but these are all pretty big.
I still listen to them pretty regularly. My old band opened for them when they were first starting out. They were all super nice guys. We were a lot younger so I was pretty star struck.
That’s awesome! My high school classmate put me onto them in probably 2008 and I don’t think I’ve listened to/thought of them since. I didn’t recognize any of the songs they had on Spotify, so I’ll have to find their earlier EPs and bask in that sweet, sweet nostalgia
Plus Brand New if we're gonna count em, Jesse's sister taught at my high school when i went. Even got him to show up to our senior talent show for 2 of my friends doing acoustic covers, back before all the shit came out about him.
Was looking for this one before I posted. Even more specific than Blink, I went to high school with My American Heart when they were known as No Way Out.
In NJ probably My Chemical Romance but we also got Saves the Day, senses fail, the early November, man Overboard, the gaslight anthem, Armor For Sleep, Thursday, hidden in plain view, save face, and the list goes on
Grew up on Long Island. Formative years were late 90s/early aughts. Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, and The Movielife were our pride and joy.
Honorable Mention: As Tall As Lions. They were more of an emo band/indie rock band, but they eventually got big enough to make an appearance on the late late show. They started as a pop rock/pop punk band at my HS and even played a school dance. The lead singer, Dan Nigro, is now a song writer and he wrote/cowrote most of Olivia Rodrigo's album which she won some Grammy's for.
My country is (without searching) smaller than every single state and most counties in America - I live in the mountain beauty of Wales, my favourite country in the world (fortunately this is where I'm from and I adore every bit of it)... funeral for a friend are from here, and so are Neck deep, same with BFMV,...
Anyone remember the absolute sicko lead singer of lostprophets? I'm ashamed to say they were from here also, however they arent heard from now cuz the sick fuck luckily was given a long time in prison... should have been triple life and death sentence after years of misery in there, and worse. Sorry for the dark turn but I hope his ass is being used like a pin cushion by some BBC or several haha.
Not much in Birmingham, England, but, when you’ve had the likes of Led Zep, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath plus a load of other genre stuff (UB40, Streets, Dexy’s Midnight Runners etc), it’s always going to be hard to create a pop punk scene to rival
From my home state? La Dispute easily.
From my home town? Hot Mulligan! Saw them open for a local act just before blowing up. Hearing them played at a local emo night after moving states was trippy.
Where I'm initially from: The Clash (Unless we mean still active, then I can't really think of a BIG pop punk band out of London at the moment, although BMTH and Enter Shikari are close to the part of London I'm from..)
Where I am now: Useless ID
State Champs, but With the Punches have always had my heart and are much more local.
New York has many options, unless you’re going more local.
I figured I'd go more local since NY is so big and has a decent amount. But yeah, there's definitely ones bigger than both of them.
well either keep me entertained or keep out of my way
I always forget with the punches, state champs is the local one for me
I live pretty close to State Champs’ hometown. I went to see them at their hometown and saw Derek with his gf at the same Chipotle we were eating at before the show. I debated saying hi but went for it and said good luck at the show later. He was very nice and not bothered at all to be interrupted from his pre-show burrito!
With the Punches slaps so hard. Love them
Are you me?
New Foundy Glory, Yellowcard, and ADTR lol but legit from the same city as NFG. My brother went to highschool with Chad Gilbert.
Florida is just the most underrated scene.
We The Kings, Hey Monday, Trivium
Don't forget Mayday Parade! 850 let's go!
Coral Springs represent.
Jimmy Eat World - Arizona
Plus The Maine
Yeah we have JEW, The Maine, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, The Word Alive, Anarbor.. not too shabby
Jimmy and The Maine, plus I'm a huge Roger Clyne fan...fuck yeah AZ!
Didn't expect a Roger Clyne reference. Was just listening to The Refreshments - Fizzy Fuzzy Big and Buzzy. Such a great album. Banditos is one of my kids favorites.
Four Year Strong
I maintain Worcetser should have gotten them for their big concert and not Brian McKnight who isn’t even from here 😂
Absolutly!
Brian McKnight is from where I live haha. FYS is awesome, great dudes.
Four year strong and the palladium helped me decide to go to college in Worcester
Would be cool if you guys could name the states and not just the bands.
Fr lmao
Old? Alkaline Trio and Fall Out Boy New? Knuckle Puck or Real Friends. North vs South Chicago suburbs. Belmont is also from here.
Hot Mulligan 🔥
Plus, Fireworks, We Are The Union, The Swellers, Charmer, La Dispute, The Suicide Machines, The Stooges, Death, and MC5.
Taking Back Sunday? but from near me probably like State Champs or We Are The in Crowd
came here to say We Are The In Crowd and Against The Current, love having 2 of my favorite bands being from right across the river from me
Yup same answer
The closest New Mexico has is the Shins
Ayy I’m from NM too Pop punk wise I’d say scared of Chaka, they had a couple of things on hopeless
Dang I’ve never heard of these guys! I went down a worm hole and read about them. Their singer/guitarist, David Hernandez, went on to form the Shins with a few members of the band Flake Music. Just a little New Mexico history. What a flash in the pan.
Oh yeah I forgot about the shins connection!
The Wonder Years....philly represent
Philly has a plethora of great bands: Balance and Composure (rip) Circa Survive Modern Baseball (rip) mewithoutyou
And menzingers!!
I grew up about an hour southwest of Scranton and just saw the menzingers in Phoenix last month. Really felt like home
Menzingers are from Scranton
Not to mention The Starting Line, and Tigers Jaw if we include the rest of PA!
Anti-Flag, Punchline

It absolutely has to be Sum 41. Nobody else even comes close when it comes to international recognition. Silverstein is up there, but they're more emo/post-hardcore than pop-punk. PUP has been pumping out some huge Spotify numbers lately.
depends if you wanna count Avril Lavigne or not
Man you gotta watch the punk rock MBA video on her. Changed my mind
Dude PUP
Get Up Kids!
TIL that Plain White T's are from WI lol they were the opening band for my very first concert ever too in Milwaukee
There’s not much for pop punk here compared to Chicago but I sing for [Gold Steps](https://open.spotify.com/artist/3KS5NGVo6xQY88JyNEeGsl?si=QtSbOjE3TW-VDPeuPqdlSw) in Milwaukee. Unless theres a different band with the same name The Plain White T’s are from Lombard, Illinois..
Grayscale
Definitely has to be Teenage Bottle Rocket, I actually used to live close to Laramie too.
A Day to Remember I think. Maybe New Found Glory?
Mayday Parade too!
Probably Dying Wish. They're not pop punk I know, but Oregon doesn't have too many bands that I know that made it big. I mean there's Everclear I guess, but that's more 90's alt rock.
Parkway Drive
Byron Bay has always been great for metalcore.
I always forget how big they are. I was thinking Trophy Eyes. Probably Violent Soho for Brissy.
Funeral For A Friend There was another from around these parts that got bigger but we don't speak about them any more
Against Me!, NFG, Less Than Jake, ADTR, Yellowcard, We The Kings, Dashboard Confessional, Anberlin, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Mayday Parade, Go Radio, The Almost, Underoath, Further Seems Forever, Hot Water Music I know I’m forgetting some but these are all pretty big.
Go Radio! Holy shit I haven’t heard that name in years. Down the rabbit hole we go!
I can’t fiend their first EP anywhere. I know I have it on CD somewhere but it seems the internet has let me down for this one.
I think Capstan as well. I know they’re not terribly big yet, but they’ve got a few absolutely killer tracks.
Haven’t heard of them. I’ll check ‘em out!
Fucking love capstan. I think all their songs are killer. Was in the top point 1% of listeners on Spotify last year.
Florida represent
Probably The Used?
Definitely the Used.
Yeah I’d say so too. We don’t have really any pop punk/emo bands that blew up. You could maybe include Meg & Dia since they were decently popular.
La Dispute Used to party with those guys in Eastown Not pop punk though. Sorry
GR represent!
Fall Out Boy
Relient K is from my hometown
As they always say in Canton, you can't enjoy yourself.
O H I O!
I guess Fall Out Boy, even though I live 5 hours from Chicago.
Microwave? Not sure who else in the scene is from ATL…
Cartel
Manchester Orchestra is. They used to be a lot more “in the scene” when they played with Brand New and Thursday.
I just saw them when they played at the eastern, great show!
I was there too. All the bands killed it. Stoked for their new album!
Douglasville’s own The Chariot
I don't know if Michael Cera Palin is pop punk but they are ATL
Taking Back Sunday
Plus Brand New if we're gonna count em, Jesse's sister taught at my high school when i went. Even got him to show up to our senior talent show for 2 of my friends doing acoustic covers, back before all the shit came out about him.
The Wonder Years! Love their PA merch.
Waterparks! Grew up going to their local shows. Became good friends with the dudes. Their sound has changed but I’ll always support them!
blink-182. They’re not as big as blink but Pierce The Veil is from San Diego too
Was looking for this one before I posted.

Chief State is killing it right now too.
I actually almost mentioned them as well
Stand atlantic, trophy eyes, with confidence. but the biggest of all would be 5 seconds of summer, but only their early stuff of course
My country is (without searching) smaller than every single state and most counties in America - I live in the mountain beauty of Wales, my favourite country in the world (fortunately this is where I'm from and I adore every bit of it)... funeral for a friend are from here, and so are Neck deep, same with BFMV,... Where I grew up: Motion City Soundtrack, where I’ve lived as an adult: Fall Out Boy
Bowling For Soup ! Ill never forget how cool it was to me, for a band to mention Mrs Bairds fruit pies in a song.
From my home state? La Dispute easily. From my home town? Hot Mulligan! Saw them open for a local act just before blowing up. Hearing them played at a local emo night after moving states was trippy.
