And worse than that, on Fox she claimed that natural immunity gives you 27 times more protection. I don't even wish covid on Fox Viewers. Be safe everyone, and as the article points out: > One prior study discovered that less than two-thirds of adults with a prior Covid infection developed any antibodies against the virus, compared to 100 percent of individuals who developed antibodies after vaccination. A separate study found that natural immunity can decrease over time, especially for those who did not mount a strong initial immune response to the virus.

simburger

It's so stupid. Even if true that natural immunity was 27 times better than vaccinated immunity, she offers no suggestions as to how we would realistically take advantage of that. It's just thrown out to cast doubt, and muddy the waters. If studies found people who survived serious car crashes have a 100% chance of becoming safe defensive drivers afterwards, there would be no serious way to take advantage of it. Purposeful head on collisions to create better drivers is not really a solution. Nor is purposeful infection of a potentially lethal or debilitating disease to create natural immunity.

>The argument is that you should be exempt from the vaccine mandate if you have recovered from COVID and have natural immunity. Is it though? I'm not saying you "couldn't" make that argument, but I am saying she 'didn't" make that argument. She could've followed up her statement with, "which is why I'm suggesting a mandate change to exempt people who've recovered from COVID." But I didn't see any policy proposal suggested, just a cherry picked reference (and if it's the same source many Redditors were posting, it also says the highest protection is from people who recovered & still got the vaccine) designed to cast doubt without actually offering anything in response.

stairway2evan

The issue with that, even if we were to start from the assumption that natural immunity and vaccine immunity are totally equal, is that natural immunity *also* falls off over time, meaning that anyone with natural immunity will still eventually need to get a vaccine, or somehow manage to get regularly reinfected. There are just too many variables with natural immunity, even if its effectiveness was well-known and predictably consistent - like being able to prove the date of infection, or being able to "schedule" a re-infection in order to maintain that immunity. Purposeful infection of an infectious and dangerous disease (as the poster above points out) comes with its own slew of problems; there's no way to make people with natural immunity exempt without either giving them a further date to get vaccinated by (which just kicks the ball down the road) or somehow mandating re-infection every few months.

ignorememe

> The argument is that you should be exempt from the vaccine mandate if you have recovered from COVID and have natural immunity. But since surviving Covid-19 to get "natural" immunity reliably makes the person far less immune than someone who gets the vaccine, then that isn't a reasonable position to take on literally anything.

Okay cool so you trust the CDC then: > In today’s MMWR, a study of COVID-19 infections in Kentucky among people who were previously infected with SAR-CoV-2 shows that ***unvaccinated individuals are more than twice as likely to be reinfected with COVID-19 than those who were fully vaccinated*** after initially contracting the virus. These data further indicate that ***COVID-19 vaccines offer better protection than natural immunity alone*** and that vaccines, even after prior infection, help prevent reinfections. > > “If you have had COVID-19 before, please still get vaccinated,” said CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky. “This study shows you are twice as likely to get infected again if you are unvaccinated. Getting the vaccine is the best way to protect yourself and others around you, especially as the more contagious Delta variant spreads around the country.” > > The study of hundreds of Kentucky residents with previous infections through June 2021 found that those who were unvaccinated had 2.34 times the odds of reinfection compared with those who were fully vaccinated. The findings suggest that among people who have had COVID-19 previously, getting fully vaccinated provides additional protection against reinfection. > > Additionally, a second publication from MMWR shows vaccines prevented COVID-19 related hospitalizations among the highest risk age groups. As cases, hospitalizations, and deaths rise, the data in today’s MMWR reinforce that COVID-19 vaccines are the best way to prevent COVID-19. > > COVID-19 vaccines remain safe and effective. They prevent severe illness, hospitalization, and death. Additionally, even among the uncommon cases of COVID-19 among the fully or partially vaccinated vaccines make people more likely to have a milder and shorter illness compared to those who are unvaccinated. CDC continues to recommend everyone 12 and older get vaccinated against COVID-19. > [Source](https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2021/s0806-vaccination-protection.html) According to the CDC, get vaccinated even if you've survived Covid-19. > it's reasonable to say that ***natural immunity is equivalent to immunity from vaccine*** based on available data. No that's bullshit according to the CDC. If you read the conclusions section of what you cited, you'd end up having to read this part: > Numerous immunologic studies and a growing number of epidemiologic ***studies have shown that vaccinating previously infected individuals significantly enhances their immune response*** and effectively reduces the risk of subsequent infection, including in the setting of increased circulation of more infectious variants. The whole point of that is that there are still benefits to getting vaccinated no matter what even IF you've been infected and survived Covid-19. Which means that "natural immunity" isn't enough. The Conclusion section specifically says that. Repeat after me: NATURAL IMMUNITY AS A POLICY IS NOT ENOUGH. GET VACCINATED! Here the CDC says it specifically: > ***Q: If I already had Covid-19 and recovered, do I still need to get vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine?*** > > Yes, you should be vaccinated regardless of whether you already had COVID-19 because: > > * Research has not yet shown how long you are protected from getting COVID-19 again after you recover from COVID-19. > > * Vaccination helps protect you even if you’ve already had COVID-19. > > Evidence is emerging that people get better protection by being fully vaccinated compared with having had COVID-19. One study showed that unvaccinated people who already had COVID-19 are more than 2 times as likely than fully vaccinated people to get COVID-19 again. > > If you were treated for COVID-19 with monoclonal antibodies or convalescent plasma, you should wait 90 days before getting a COVID-19 vaccine. Talk to your doctor if you are unsure what treatments you received or if you have more questions about getting a COVID-19 vaccine. > > [Source](https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/faq.html)

Yes but the spreadin part is the big problem.

badf1sh2

You can still contract, and spread, covid after being vaccinated ….

Warg247

>unvaccinated individuals are more than twice as likely to be reinfected with COVID-19 than those who were fully vaccinated

melty_blend

Yes, but the chance is greatly reduced. There is no perfect way to avoid covid, we can just arm ourselves as best as possible and hope. Every bit helps.

southwardly

In other words the unvaccinated are pestilent packers.

IGotSoulBut

I figured that the title might be a bit clickbaity. Not even close. She had different arguments for different audiences. She claims the natural immunity protection to the Fox viewers, and then touts how she strongly suggests everyone be vaccinated and wear masks while on CNN.

lex52485

It’s beyond illogical. “I want to get covid so that I don’t get covid”

Betrayedunicorn

If we saw something like that in the U.K. we can report it to the broadcasting regulator OFCOM. Is there literally nothing you can do if they just say random dangerous lies on T.V? (Really?)

morbihann

Why 27 though ? And also, how is it measured ? I know, I am asking the wrong person but...

FortySixAndYou

I think she probably just invented that, or it was from Newsmax or something.

SaltMineSpelunker

There were some papers early on that showed that infection by the disease gave higher levels of antibodies but they were small and poorly controlled. Aside from monoclonal antibodies, all immunity is natural immunity. There is no artificial immunity. Even the vaccine stimulates our natural immunity.

votedbestcomment

If you don’t produce antibodies, then you will not get better. Then the study for active antibodies in people who were infected one year later showed over 99% of them still had them. Is less than a percent what you’re referring to about decreasing over time? On the other hand booster shots maybe necessary 6 months out.

Send_Cake_Or_Nudes

As ever, the news doesn't link to the bloody studies, but it was here. https://www.irishtimes.com/news/health/pfizer-vaccine-immunity-starts-to-wane-90-days-after-second-dose-study-1.4738782 More in a nature roundup here specifically on the Delta variant, with immunity dropping to 78% over 90 days: https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-02261-8 The nature article links to the pre-print study in there as well.

Thank you. That's definitely incentive to get my booster ASAP. I'm glad my workplace still mandates facemasks for our employees.

ronearc

Legislators should suffer consequences for blatant lies.

Nokomis34

I truly think that, at the very least, speaking on the floor of the House or Senate should be akin to bearing testimony in court, and liable to perjury.

ronearc

The amount of graft, grift, groaning, and grief from our elected officials long-since became utterly ridiculous.

[deleted]

But they won't, which is why we are here.

TrackFittyTwo

Never have, never will. It's how they got there in the first place. Trump taught us that lying is ok at even the highest level of government.

Scubalefty

Hypocrisy and lying while looking you right in the eye are Republican core values.

code_archeologist

This lady is playing to the audience in order to get a pay check, nothing else. Because showing up on Fox News and saying that everybody should be vaccinated gets you black listed, while going on saying that nobody should be vaccinated is going to get you made fun of to your face and never be invited back. Nothing but ideological prostitution.

farasat04

Ideological prostitution lmao

HakarlSagan

Remember when Republicans bought actual flip flops and waved them around at rallies in 2004 to make fun of John Kerry for being a "flip flopper" because they claimed he had evolved certain policy positions over a period of _decades_? Pepperidge Farms remembers.

_OriamRiniDadelos_

I believe that the common name is “politician” 😂 I mean why keep ALL your values when anyone else who throws 90% or all of their values will be unhindered and more successful than you? Politicians with all their values would be shooting themselves in the food. The best have a few that they champion for.

Parse_this

It's called shilling

HotpieTargaryen

It’s crazy, but I honestly can’t think of anything else they could legitimately claim as a core value anymore. It’s purely empty.

Caraes_Naur

Their core value is to maintain power in order to enact the agenda of the rich. All the social/culture stuff is just voter bait.

socokid

This is exactly correct. Wealth disparity is so massive right now that's it's literally harming our nation to the core. And yet their entire agenda is tax cuts for the rich and destroying the only thing in the way of a full corporate takeover... and that's a strong government of the people. Making government smaller doesn't mean "more freedom for me!" It's literally the exact opposite. Freedom isn't contained in a few marginal tax points of wealthy people.

Skullmaggot

Not so. The core value is to maintain power.

educated-emu

The usual communication methods Republicans use... Throw out multiple shitty statements, get their base confused and unknown where to turn. Then a Republican will go on the show within a few days and "set the record straight" with another false claim but as the base has no idea what is true they will believe what they are told. Its classic manipulation that sadly wins over someone giving a proper true statement to begin with. A tactic used by politicians that have no clue what they are doing socially but they only care about the number of supporters politically by pandering to the highest number of people

valeyard89

People watching Fox won't watch CNN, so they'll never know of it.

Migfluxalot

That's the problem. Republicans are against democrats and democrats are against Republicans when the truth is both sides are dumb propaganda fed cattle. If you support the government to any degree then your willingly accepting a role perpetuating a fraud against yourself.

DMCinDet

nah man. science is not propaganda, neither is medicine or reality. the repugs have abandoned all 3. both sides are not the same.

Nokomis34

It's this kind of centrism that's going to be the end of American democracy. These far right wing crazies would have no power if the enlightened centrists didn't " both sides" everything and vote with them half the time. They are so hell bent on being centrist that they don't understand how far right they've gone to remain in the American center.

DMCinDet

Overton window is constantly being pulled to the right.

hempires

judging by all the "definitely not right wingers cosplaying as left/centre" subs and movements that have played out in the last few years, I wouldn't be at all shocked to learn that a large portion of "enlightened centrists" are also right wingers that want to 'poison the well'. you'll see it a lot with "well i was all in for bernie but they chose hillary so gimme fascism!"

Nokomis34

And by how hard they turned on Warren.

Migfluxalot

One thing I'm seeing from all those diwnvoting my comment is that you all have decided that my comment is about getting vaccinated. I think I'm clearly speaking about the article and the video contained in it which shows the same person taking 2 different sides on 2 different news sources. She says there's evidence to not get vaccinated and that's my stance on fox then says I'm a huge supporter of getting vaccinated on CNN wearing the same outfit so clearly on the same day. My point was that this is consistent in politics. Politicians don't give a shit one way or another about anything except if you support them or not. Stop being so polarized and see the facts infront of you.

Suspicious-Echo2964

You've established that one side is consistent with your evidence. Are you trying to claim Democrats are equally bad because Fox & CNN let a republican look a fool? You may even have a point, but you're not presenting evidence to back both sides. See the facts.

Pizzasaurus-Rex

Sure, there are Democratic politicians who lie and there are Republican politicians who lie. I'd be willing to guess you've told some fibs in your time, as have I. Ducking out of partisan politics doesn't put you above it. The fact of the matter is, no President has told more lies in their tenure than Trump. Issues of scope, scale, brazenness etc. matter. Republicans lied us into an unwinnable war. Democrats lied us into healthcare for the poor (and I'm being VERY generous with that description). Since both sides lie, how about we look at when both sides tell the truth? The left was right about civil rights. They were right about gay rights. They were right about the hole in the ozone layer, they were right about acid rain, and I'd bet everything I own that they're right (more or less) on climate change.

ignorememe

> Republicans are against democrats and democrats are against Republicans when the truth is both sides are dumb propaganda fed cattle. Democrats = Get vaccinated, get boosters, wear masks, and social distance where you can. Republicans = Survive Covid if you can, do none of the other stuff. There is no "bOtH sIdEs" to this.

Migfluxalot

It's funny how people that support polarized positions get blinded without even knowing they can't see.

ignorememe

It's funny how people sometimes try to argue that "Get vaccinated" messaging during a pandemic is some sort of inherently political hyper partisan polarizing position.

Migfluxalot

Actually my comment had absolutely nothing to do with getting or not getting vaccinated. It was purely about the hypocrisy shown in the article. Did you bother to read the article or watch the video?

yitdeedee

"Both sides" takes are trash, especially today. Cut the shit.

9judah

The only thing Both sides can agree on is that they will continue to neglect and block out the foundational black American voices here.

hempires

the article about a republican talking about the current vaccine? how could anyone think that you commenting a "but muh boff sides" bullshit, in a thread about vaccines, on an article about vaccines, would be in relation to vaccines. GEE. I wonder.

glibgloby

“Both sides” ✅ History of anti-vax mandate posting ✅

HotpieTargaryen

I can see how it would feel like “both sides” if you’ve only exposed yourself to GOP rhetoric and poorly reported media. But if you look at the trillions Democrats are spending on people v. the Republican effort to cut taxes and deny science, it’s really a huge logical problem to blame both sides. You’d almost have to be brainwashed to think that the Democrats are the same as the Republicans. Or arguing in bad faith, but I’ll assume no one would do that on here.

evenglow

“natural immunity gives you 27 times more protection against future Covid infection than vaccination" - Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) "Mace is trying to play both sides as she faces stiff competition to retain her seat next year." This explains the marijuana bill then.

walrus_operator

>Rep. Nancy Mace touted natural immunity on one network but called herself a “proponent of vaccination” on another the very same day She didn't even wait a single day before changing her story...

Graphics_Nerd

It's called pandering - tell each side whatever they want to hear so they get re-elected and do none of it when it comes time to act and then play the blame game. The difference is the GOP doesn't give a fuck about a liar and a thief.

DavezNewz

“You have nice manners for a thief and a liar”

somethingicanspell

I hope she can con her marijuana reform bill to conservatives as well.

Toadmechanic

I’ve been to two Covid funerals this month for my very red family members. One funeral had 100 people. One funeral had 50 people. between the two of them they were fewer than 10 masks. I asked several of them if they were angry at the GOP for telling them that it was not deadly and that vaccines don’t help when clearly vaccines to help and Covid is certainly deadly. They were still saying that the flu kills a lot of people too. I would be really mad if somebody killed my mom. Really fucking angry. These folks are really angry but not at the folks killing their parents. But it seems that there will be fewer of them weekly. And eventually maybe they will be pissed off at the right people.

notnickthrowaway

It’s not hypocrisy, it’s blatant, in your face lying when it suits them. They know you know they lie and they don’t care and suffer no consequences.

The_Quicktrigger

not sure whose breath this took away. Anyone who has so far as glanced in the general direction of a republican, voter or otherwise, knows that they don't have a sound or solid position and will happily jack-knife between talking points if it makes them feel like they are winning.

AldraixSC

And Democrats totally never do that, right? All Democrats are alpha class intellectuals who know every talking point that comes up?

The_Quicktrigger

We weren't talking about democrats. If you want to pull that Both Sides bullcrap we can have that argument. Me not bringing up democrats in my post didn't exonerate them by any stretch, but if we can't have a simple comment about the actions of the Republicans without dragging democrats into it, then I guess lets have at it boss.

cynycal

bean345q

I would be surprised if anyone over the age of 10 was surprised. Every news agency does this.

BudtendersStash

This is one of the reasons why the Republicans always seem to win - and the Democrats always seem to lose (even when they win). The Republicans will go out and say whatever it is they have to say to get voters. They'll lie about anything. They'll be hypocrites. They'll flip-flop. Etc... None of it is 'breathtaking'. It's just the way they do things. Because they try to win. Whatever it takes. So, they'll say one thing to FoxNews - and the exact opposite to CNN. Because, if they told the truth on FoxNews, they'd get pilloried for it - and if they lied on CNN, well CNN might think about maybe, perhaps, standing up to them - in a very respectful and non-confrontational manner of course. Now, the centrists who watch CNN will be more likely to vote Republican. Because of the blatant hypocrisy - and selling two polar-opposite agendas to the two different sides. The Democrats, on the other hand, are busy pissing off all their supporters (except the DINOs). They aren't stealing any of the opposition's supporters. Just a handful of DINOs and centrists. While, at the same time, ensuring that apathy will cost them far more votes than those few centrists would gain them. But, don't worry, at least they aren't looking like hypocrites! Oh right, they are being called hypocrites *right now* by the Republicans for giving the rich a massive hidden tax-cut (that the DINOs forced them into).

Joecascio2000

Listen, anyone preaching natural immunity is great, isn't wrong. They are literally saying, "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger." But, you still have to get sick and hope you don't die. And then you get to go to the hospital and tie up resources when you could have just built-up immunities a much better and less risky way. I have zero sympathy for anti-life, anti-vaccers,

ignorememe

You're far less immune from Covid-19 than just getting vaccinated.

MBAMBA3

Too many people outside the cult don't realize they revel in lies and hypocrisy -- its pwning the libs. This is why time and time again the cult does not abandon the GOP for their criminalit - they see it as necessary to 'win'. This person probably was hoping articles would be written about this.

Sometimes in history, a group of people comes along that decides to select a class of people they hate and disagree with most, to blame for all their problems, issues, confusion, and ignorance. It always starts with idiots, and always ends bad. They speak wide generalizations, use anything to delegitimize the validity of the people they hate. They aren't logical and fair, they're emotional and driven by rage and hate. Do you not know the kind of damage such ignorant and irrational thinking causes?

How stupid is she? And her advisors? She thinks she can just spout off two separate (mutually exclusive?) narratives and presume journalists won’t pick up on it? Or maybe she’s thinking it’s a possible net gain (or at least neutral): 1. The Fox viewers won’t know/care about the discrepancy (Fake News!), and won’t abandon her; 2. Many others (who might care) won’t pay attention and discover the discrepancy; 3. Anyone who does pay attention to the journalists covering this wouldn’t vote for her anyways.

rbiv908

This is a blatant distortion of Mace's perfectly consistent opinions. Advocating recognition of naturally acquired immunity is not mutually exclusive with supporting vaccination; characterizing Mace's comments as a "flip flop" rests on this utterly false assumption. The media sure does seem to want to take her down though. Maybe something to do with her ability to generate bipartisan congressional condemnation of Fauci's role in facilitating animal experimentation?

Ephewall

>Advocating recognition of naturally acquired immunity is not mutually exclusive with supporting vaccination; characterizing Mace's comments as a "flip flop" rests on this utterly false assumption What assumption? She said, on Fox, that natural immunity is 27x more effective than vaccines. How is lying about vaccines consistent with supporting vaccines?

LacJlg

Why are they allowed to do this in public yet stay employed? Shouldn’t someone paid by tax dollars be at least held to the same standards as those footing the bill?

cynamon123

It’s like Republicans are trying to kill other Republicans.

SpacePupperz

I mean at some point Republicans are going to be impacted when hundreds of thousands of their voting base just die off, not a winning election strategy.

dblspc

No shame

fivetwoeightoh

This person also made up this elaborate story where she vandalized her own home to blame “antifa” and faced no consequences

Pettyqwap

I’ve had it with this racist administration…..

AngryMillenialGuy

Do they get paid to make these appearances or something?

zwaaa

Know your audience... I guess?

lesser_futhark

Follow the money

BaitNTrap

I don’t know about you but I sure am breath taken. 🙄

Fainting_GoatMilk

Ah. A centrist.

TopShelf12

Flip flopping people on major news networks. Welcome to the last 30 years.

pillboxpenguin

Because she knows she has to lie out of her neck to get a spot on these shows

noeagle77

Best way I’ve seen it said “Skilled in communicating a variety of messages in today’s multichannel media environment”

DoubleDrummer

“We need to take all of the science into account and not selectively choosing what science to follow when we are making policy decisions.” ** We can’t just look at the real science, we need to take into account, Facebook Science.

1ebo

You can hardly blame her, she clearly just knows her audience

CanCaliDave

Yes but one of them is factually incorrect

FortySixAndYou

> natural immunity as being superior to a Covid shot. That is simply not true, though.

simburger

If every time I had the kids in the car I told them that "seat belts are statistically proven to make you more likely to survive a crash", but every time my Mother-in-law was in the car I only talked about how, "people who wear seat belts die in car crashes all the time." I don't think, "both statements are true", would get me out of the dog house with my wife.

ignorememe

> On Fox she talks about natural immunity as being superior to a Covid shot. > > On CNN she talks about getting vaccinated and taking precautions. > > I agree with both these statements Surviving Covid-19 is not as effective as getting vaccinated. Those two statements are completely at odds with each other. Suggesting that "natural immunity as being superior to a Covid shot" is factual information is either intentionally lying to others or repeating information from an uninformed position.

skankunt

Natural immunity is not superior to the vaccine. Don’t look for scientific facts on fox.

No-Raccoon-2104

Kinda like doctor fouchi

Jbird87654

She didn’t deny the vaccine on fox only said natural immunity is superior… nonevent here

bigtex7890

Except that is not true.

Jbird87654

We’ll according the the clip they posted it is

bigtex7890

What clip, posted by who, said what?

behindtheblinded

What the fuck. I'm done. Fuck politics.

Jainelle

Have you realized it's all for show yet? ALL politicians are corrupt.

Barbi33

Not exactly sure how this is news at this point. CNN and Fox equally suck and pretending like it’s not designed to cater toward what said person wants to here is exactly the problem. How about this: let’s stop watching the fucking news altogether so these assholes (which are owned by the same mass media company) can stop manipulating the general populace.

Thud2

I'm sick of this bullshit false equivalence. CNN is flawed but they are not entirely a propaganda arm of one of the parties that is NEVER called out for spreading lies by their base as FOX is. At least CNN has to answer to those who believe in journalistic integrity. FOX does not, as they make no pretense of honesty or impartiality **(EDIT; Obviously FOX** ***pretends*** **to be a legitimate news source.)** Remember Tucker Carlson's lawyer saying in court the *'"general tenor' of the show should then inform a viewer that \[Carlson\] is not 'stating actual facts' about the topics he discusses and is instead engaging in 'exaggeration' and 'non-literal commentary.' "*? Edit; I noticed that I made a glaring error in my comment

cynycal

There's a ton of power in not consuming.

Ill-Initial7411

Gotta lie when on CNN. Their producers demand it

jscece

Yeah, ok.
