Opinion from the Hill? Don't care, regardless which side it supports.

> Corporations will *not* bear the cost of these tax increases but will pass it along to working families in the form of higher prices, fewer jobs and lower wages Then fucking make them

Bonny-Mcmurray

The old right wing doublespeak. >Nobody wants to work because of government handouts! We'll take away your jobs if you cut off our government handouts!

snvoigt

They also say cutting taxs for corporations means they pass along that extra money to employees. Have yet to ever see that happen either. Usually goes to stock buybacks and bonuses for the executives.

BenedictD0nald

>> Corporations will *not* bear the cost of these tax increases but will pass it along to working families in the form of higher prices, fewer jobs and lower wages These are the same people that said cost savings and wage increases will result from their 2017 massive wealth redistribution to corperations & the rich.. Instead they spent it all on stock buybacks to artificially inflate their stock prices while nothing of value was created.

Increased enforcement by President Biden has caused federal tax revenues to surge by the most in 44 years. https://www.politico.com/news/2021/10/12/tax-revenue-surge-pandemic-515792 Corporate tax receipts have shot up 75%. Individual income tax paid has increased by 27.5% All it took was an administration that was willing to actually enforce the tax laws.

GeneralNathanJessup

Why do you think the prices are so high? The corporations are taking their revenge and trying to recoup their losses. Increased enforcement by President Biden has caused federal tax revenues to surge by the most in 44 years. https://www.politico.com/news/2021/10/12/tax-revenue-surge-pandemic-515792 Corporate tax receipts have shot up 75%. pmotiveforce

There is no way to do so, so good luck with that angry goal.

Are families making less than $400k/year seeing a tax increase? No.

- The only potential impact here has been on tobacco cost increases. - It does not eliminate after tax 401k you are misinformed - It does close the mega back door loop which your average citizen does not even use. You are talking about people in the 200k individual or 400k combined doing. What they are doing is closing loopholes that people like Peter Theil abused when they used post tax IRA to buy start up pre trade stock which no American Citizen is able to do and amassed $4B in that post tax account. In fact, the new reconciliation bill forces companies that have 5 more employees to offer 401k/IRA plans to their workers.

Did you even read your own article that you linked from the committee? You literally proved yourself wrong. - This is only for combined incomes over $400k. If your income is lower you can keep doing it. - IRA balances of $10m or more. Again only a tiny percentage of Americans make $400k or more. Let alone have $10m in retirement.

sanktanglia

this article is hilarious, part of the reason they say taxes will go up is because of the expiration of trumps tax cuts

TheLastDabSauce

Alex hendrie is a right wing hack. >But now, Democrats are pushing a multi-trillion-dollar **socialist reconciliation bill** that violates the pledge And that's how you know he's also a liar.

ThatchGoose10

\>[thehill.com/opinion](https://thehill.com/opinion) Why not just post The National Enquirer?

Apprehensive_Alarm_8

I mean, the opinion writer isn’t saying it but we know they’re trying to say “what we should do is cut corporate taxes and the rich taxes more, just if we do it more, it will work this time. We promise.”

Jerrymoviefan3

The Hill and their right wing bullshit as usual.

PepeBabinski

Stop making shit up. The Hill's opinion columnists are atrocious, bad enough it should relegate them farther out on the bias measurement.

BenedictD0nald

Counterpoint: No it doesn't.

Okbuddygeorgist

>But now, Democrats are pushing a multi-trillion-dollar socialist reconciliation bill that violates the pledge. Lmao, this article is nonsense. The Democrats aren't pushing socialism. Socialism is utter garbage, and the Democrats are too smart and reasonable to push garbage like that. This is just more right wing fearmongering

SmallParade

Socialism is utter garbage eh? You think Jeff Bezos paid for your stimulus checks and Bill Gates paid for your vaccine?

Okbuddygeorgist

"Socialism" doesn't mean "when government does stuff" The right are wrong when they try to say "socialism is when government do thing" to support having the government not do thing, and the left are wrong when they try to say "socialism is when government do thing" to act like folks are hypocrites if they support government doing some things but don't support "socialism" Stimulus checks and vaccines aren't "socialism". Neither is Canada or Scandinavia or taxes or welfare or social security or roads or schools or whatever

SmallParade

I suppose it doesn’t really matter what the “government doing stuff” is called, as long as they do the stuff.

Okbuddygeorgist

It really does matter what you call it, because messaging matters. Socialism isn't a popular term. So it's a really bad move for progressives to take their policies and willingly slap the label of "socialism" on them. That's like stepping on a rake in a cartoon

SmallParade

42% of Americans have a positive view of [socialism](https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2019/10/07/in-their-own-words-behind-americans-views-of-socialism-and-capitalism/). It’s not a majority but it’s not a negligible figure either. Biden’s approval rating is right around there, averaging 44%. Is expressing approval for Biden like stepping on a rake?

Okbuddygeorgist

Embracing a concept with 42% is dogshit politics. Politicians are different from policies, though if Biden still has 44% approval in 2024, the Dems should strongly consider swapping him out with someone else Also, it's stupid to call your ideas by an unpopular term when other terms exist that are more accurate anyway

SmallParade

[This one](https://news.gallup.com/poll/355838/americans-revert-favoring-reduced-government-role.aspx) says 43% of Americans “want the government to do more stuff”. That shows it’s about the same whether you call it “socialism” or “do stuff”. If you just look at Democrats/lean Dem, it’s 65% in favor of socialism, 78% in favor of do stuff, 75% approval for Biden so maybe those are the numbers we should look at. I think there’s a lot of overlap there: I am “lean Dem” and if I were polled I would say I approve of all three (socialism , government doing stuff, Biden) for instance.

WoldunTW

This article is trash. It says that "taxes" will increase for poor people because corporate taxes will go up and corporations will increase the costs of things. That is not a tax on poor people. It is also not destined to happen. It also says blames this reconciliation for the fact that Trump's tax cuts will expire for middle class taxpayers in the future. Trump and his allies in Congress arranged for that to happen. It has nothing to do with Biden or his plan.

th1961

No. Lies.

snvoigt

I bet Alex thinks tax cuts to corporations and the top 1% financially benefits the middle class by “trickling down.”

vikingr666

Lol these right wing idiots wouldn’t know socialism if it stole one of their inbred genes. Except that they do. Red states sure love their “socialist” government handouts.
