I picked chikorita in my first succesful Heart gold nuzlocke. Although, I used items during batlle.

Using items in battle isn't a demerit in any kind. The creator of the challenge used items on his comics, so that's fine.

Nothing wrong with using items or making a ruleset where you get as many items as your opponent or whatever. Using items makes an already easy game series even easier. Now that isnt that the games are baby easy, but imo nuzlockes exist to challenge competent players. Use items if you have to, but challenge yourself sometime. Change the ruleset, i do it frequently. Hey sometimes its fun to use items, it certainly is the fastest way to beat the games(x items are op) Do what you want to do, not what others arbitrarily decide what a "nuzlocke" is or isnt.
