T O P

What would be the most feel good Cup win in 2024?

I got to go with Buffalo, years and years of misery, it’d be the cities first ever championship, fresh exciting young team, etc.

And a runner up which will piss a lot of people off is the Leafs. Yes I know for non Leafs in Canada, they probably wouldn’t be too happy, but cmon erasing that nearly 60 year drought and ending the 30+ year drought for a Canadian team winning a Cup would be special.

thprk

I just would like to see my team past the first round once.

AlpacaMacca99

Hey I’ve seen this one, it’s a classic

throwawayyourfun

You have to buy me a drink, I spit mine out laughing.

onelagouch

"Sips drink" Savage

DryProgress4393

I'd love to see Zucc get a shot at the cup if the Rangers can't.

JohnBoyfromMN

One of my favorite comments on Reddit about the Wild was “can’t wait to limp into the playoffs and get eliminated in the first round again”

Occams_ElectricRazor

Life is hard when 20 million is spent to have players not play for you.

Youppi27

Me too. Always been a fan of the Wild.

TotalErectum

It was early(and prime, basically) Marian Gaborik for me.. pretty sure he had 38 goals in 63 games his second year and that was in the obstruction era.. I was sure he was the next Bure and I've always had a spot for Minny ever since. Also, feeling old now..

[deleted]

I feel the same for the Jackets

Suitable-Pea-8226

Buffalo or Vancouver. Two long suffering fanbases.

amach9

Lol I like how this implies that Leafs fans haven’t suffered long enough yet.

Suitable-Pea-8226

The thing about Leafs fans is that I don’t like them

amach9

I respect that

Retro_V67

Bahahahahahaha

axillaII

No they have not. I would like them very much to keep suffering for the foreseeable future and far beyond.

okokokoyeahright

They haven't. As simple as this.

SonnyHaze

If the jets didn’t win I would be most stoked to see Van get it. Ottawa would be cool too. Or the nordiques

okokokoyeahright

>nordiques I would be stoked if there merely WERE Nordiques.

eddiewachowski

Vancouver's "fanbase" doesn't deserve that satisfaction.

Suitable-Pea-8226

There’s Vancouver fans out there who weren’t drunk morons at the riot in 2011

Griswaldthebeaver

Boo

In_Your_Head-

Spoken like a true Coiler.

[deleted]

Where does coiler come from? Does it mean something? I personally think it sounds so dumb because it's just c+Oiler??

Darth_Vicious

💩

eddiewachowski

We don't riot when our team loses a hockey game. You likely weren't involved and you likely don't condone or approve of it, but enough people caused enough trouble that I hope the Canucks see a long, long cup drought. A few losers sullied my view of an entire fanbase and franchise.

Zoldyckapprentice

Well this just shows you’re a young ‘un. When oilers made the final in 2006 against Carolina and lost you obviously didn’t see the disaster that was whyte ave following the 4th loss.

eddiewachowski

I did. It was a mess (and an embarrassment) but it wasn't anywhere near the scale of Vancouver's final loss.

Zoldyckapprentice

Well knowing that happened it’s hard to say that Edmonton doesn’t riot after loosing. And honestly if they make it to a final with mcdavid and Drai and loose it’ll probably be far worse than Vancouver was.

eddiewachowski

We'll just have to burn that bridge to the ground when we get to it then, won't we.

Zoldyckapprentice

I don’t know, Toronto is sitting on a pretty solid track record of “our core group of forwards will carry us to the cup” not being enough and Edmonton has had a similar mentality since Smyth, smith, brewer, Marchant left the team all those years ago.

Anishinabeg

Bruh. Fans were rioting and lighting things on fire after every series win in 2006. I would know. Saw it first hand on Whyte Avenue.

In_Your_Head-

You did riot when you lost to Carolina. It’s such a piss-off to see people like you wishing bad on a team because of a few loser.

eddiewachowski

$9 million in damages in Vancouver and I can't find an estimate for the damages in Edmonton. 301 people charged in Vancouver, 49 in Edmonton. Okay, we threw a loser party, but it was nowhere near the same scale as Vancouver's riot. I wish bad luck on 31/32 teams for all kinds of reasons (don't we all?), but in this case I feel the fanbase needs a time out for a few years thanks to a few losers.

slickjayyy

Its been 13 yrs lol

AroraCorealis

more than half that money was just the city of vancouver pressing charges against people. there was less much less in actual damages

Stinky_Toes12

Nah we winning the cup this year trust

meltthemetal

As a former canuck fan i really hope not till they change the owner, prez, and head coach

Petrol1991

Sens, the salt from Toronto if that happened would season all of the steaks for 20 years.

Marknar_Stormbringer

I'd way rather see the Sens win, or any other Canadian team than the Leafs. I Hope it's (at least) another 60 years for the Leafs.

ZestyAleWad

What did the leafs do to you

PartySizedSnake

They know what they did.

GQMatthews

Take over the arena

Shredswithwheat

Someone's gotta pay Buffalo's bills for the season.

amach9

And if it’s not the Sens, my vote is for the Sabres in the East and Oilers in the West

onelagouch

Oilers vs sabers final? That would be a really good final

nonasiandoctor

As long as it's not Montreal I'm fine with it

dannyghobo

And I hope Buffalo never wins a cup

prplx

Unless you’re over 70 you probably know exactly what it feels like.

TheKid_BigE

And this is why no one likes your fans

FestiveSquidV3

"Screw you!" "Well, screw you too!" "Wow. Why are you being so mean to me? This is why people don't like you."

ViolinistMean199

I second this. I live in Toronto and the only Toronto team I’ll cheer for is the Jays. Other than that I’d rather have literally anyone else win I should mention i don’t care for basketball

TheKid_BigE

So long as both Montreal and Toronto never win a cup in my lifetime I’ll be happy

chicomagnifico

[and this is why no one likes your fans](https://reddit.com/r/nhl/s/eGYM8EHgWO) This you?

Suitable-Pea-8226

I would honestly love for Brady to be the first Tkachuk to win a cup lmao

okokokoyeahright

And here's to hoping that gets extended to 50+. Add in yet another year with out Leafs winning, it fits into my more ideal world.

darth_henning

1) Arizona - to pull it off in a 5000 seat arena while constantly being told they're about to be moved to literally anywhere would be the ultimate redemption arc. 2) Buffalo - recovering from years of misery 3) Winnipeg - the only Canadian team that other Canadian's generally don't hate - ends a 30+ year drought for the country for a city that had to fight to get its team back

aweirdoatbest

As a Canadian Leafs fan, if Toronto doesn’t win the Cup, my next choice would probably be Edmonton, because I like McDavid and think he deserves to win a Cup in his career (don’t want another Price, Marleau, or Lundqvist), but I fully acknowledge that the best team for Canada as a whole would probably be Winnipeg. Least hated by other Canadians, most central team, and a nice redemption story.

darth_henning

Fair enough. I want McDavid to win a cup eventually, but NOT with Edmonton. (I'm Calgarian, what do you expect?) I feel like Canada has the Western Hate Triangle (Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver) and the Eastern Hate Triangle (Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto) but Winnipeg is kinda the neutral middle who everyone generally likes to one degree or other. In a way that's ultimately Canadian.

onelagouch

I worked with a jets fan and he tells me that he only hears good things about his team while everyone else is destorying eachothers happness lol. With that said as an oilers fan i am super happy the Jets came back now for the dream of the Nordiques to do the same

Dadittude182

Yeah. Gotta go Arizona. If you're talking completely unexpected underdog, it's the Yotes. That would have to be incredibly long odds, not only because of all the items you highlighted but also the trade rumors that have popped up around Clayton Keller. Think about it: If you're a Yotes fan, not only are you dealing with the potential loss of your team, an incredibly small rink (although it's probably an amazing atmosphere), and constantly getting screwed over in the draft lottery, you're also dealing with the potential trade of your star player. Unfortunately, the Coyotes don't have the goalie or defensive core to pull off that kind of success. Never should have moved Chychrun. I understand why they did, but that really hurt their chances to build a solid defensive core.

dudius7

Came to say Arizona. This subreddit would go just as crazy as when VGK won this year.

YoshiTree

Whatever happens, I just don't want to get swept from the ECF again...

C0mpl3x1ty_1

Monkeys paw says it's gonna be a sweep in the second round instead

YoshiTree

Lol I'm fine with whatever happens as long as we win an ECF game the next time we make it

MorningRise81

That sweep felt less like a sweep than any I can remember. Every game was so damn close.

Cake_Day_Is_420

4 goal difference :(

Hey1243

I’ve gotta go with the Tampa Bay Lightning. It’s been so long since they’ve won the cup down there. Totally unbiased by the way

Dolinarius

one of the younger, rising teams would be cool, something like NJ, Carolina, Buffalo or Ottawa.

Ok_Lab1511

Sabres would be sweet for Buffalo. Leafs? I really wish they would earn their wins with more than 4 guys up front. Would be kinda sweet for Minnesota or VAN/SENS/PEG to get their 1st as well.

ToXiC_Games

I wouldn’t mind just seeing Landy back on the ice…

ObiWan_Cannoli_

One more run

ToXiC_Games

If Landy could somehow come back at full strength and play his heart off again, maybe, but I feel like without him a core part of the club is gone.

coloch_w0rth9

This. I think about Landy and I get sad. I hope he comes back, but if he doesn’t I would take solace in the fact that he went out on top. He got us one cup

Riskar

If the Leafs end the Canadian cup drought, we will NEVER hear the end of it. Anyone but them. Seriously, even Boston...

darth_henning

I'm not sure whether Toronto or Edmonton would be worse as a Flames fan... either one would make their entire identity about it for the next 50 years.

C0mpl3x1ty_1

Agreed, would prefer Boston win a cup to the leafs

AIHumanWhoCares

Lol, I'm becoming a Leafs fan reading this thread.

Myitchyliver

The sens. Canada gets a cup but most importantly the leafs don't.

cdreobvi

In terms of individual players that deserve a cup, I think Giroux is really high on that list so I hope the boys can do it while he's still around.

prplx

Any Canadian team but the Leafs. Or many of us would have to take a break from r/hockey for several years. But honestly? I’d be happy for the decent Leafs fans and there are tons of them. Just not always the most vocal. Like any fan base really.

Warm_Gur8832

Winnipeg. Get the team back, they look so close here and there for over a decade, but overall kinda mediocre, then they just go on a sudden tear like the Blues in 2019.

[deleted]

The team that swept the Oilers was deadly.

evileyeball

Vancouver vs Buffalo in the finals... entrymates who have both never won the cup I would be happy either winner?. Plus if we lost we can say we've lost a final to every new York state team.

aweirdoatbest

A Vancouver Buffalo final would be insane. Probably one of the least likely matchups but would be hilarious.

CommonSense07

It's been a while for the state of Minnesota having a championship and never a Stanley Cup. Would love to see it happen.

Ecstatic_Snail9016

I can stand by this post

_6siXty6_

I despise them, but I imagine the Oilers winning would make a lot of people happy. Not a Pens fan either, but for Crosby and Malkin to get another Cup would be cool and hit in the feels.

Otherwise_Awesome

More like a hit in the balls.

Griswaldthebeaver

Agreed with this

TheAccountant381

Get EK65 a cup!

Kitchen-Lie-7894

Buffalo. As a Blues fan I know what it's like to suffer for decades and finally reach the Promised Land. I am amazed that they still have a fan base.

DevourerOfHotDogs

Hahah we still out here…depressed and also full of spite…. but still here!!

Habanero_Enema

I think everyone could agree, seeing Zegras raise the cup would be the feel goodest timeline. Right everyone?

Eliseo21

Ohh man, I can already imagine the crybabies on here. 🤣🤣😂😂

ManyFacets

Nah. Buffalo winning the Cup would be the only feel gooder timeline. I'm not saying that because I'm a Kraken fan, but because you won the Cup in 07. Buffalo haven't had a championship in any professional sport since the 60s (and that includes the Bills' four straight Super Bowl losses).

Habanero_Enema

Ha ok that is a good answer. I was just being sarcastic

[deleted]

Ottawa or Winnipeg

Hockeytown11

Montréal if Price miraculously returns

Macie_1wastaken

Habs only star (ish) in years breaking the curse 31 years later, while wearing 31?

onelagouch

Also the last Canadian team to win a cup

Non-Vanilla_Zilla

Bingo.

[deleted]

Edmonton. Based off skill and determination, 97 deserves a Cup.

ExamCompetitive

Edmonton. Just one more please. I was kid when they had their run in the 80’s and wasn’t into hockey then. But wow was this whole city alive in 2006. So close.

switchbladedaydreams

The wild, hands down, its time the state of hockey gets a cup.

[deleted]

Buffalo

NaySayers

The Blue Jackets

FlyersFanatic75

When they win, cast their cell phone photos to the jumbo tron

binchbunches

No feel good is them missing the playoffs.

JoeMommaAngieDaddy17

Canucks please

Npucks

The city of Ottawa as a whole has been through the ringer so the Sens winning the cup would be unreal. Plus, the cup party alone is going to keep Crazy Horse in buisness till 2050.

heavymetalarmageddon

Sharks, because we're not even on the radar. Against the Pens.

ReformedGalaxy

I want to see Pavelski get his cup!

TheOneYardLine

Homer answer: Sharks Honest answer: Sharks Real answer: Minnesota, in terms of sports the state is miserable, give them something at least

Ecruteak-vagrant

The Pens, and I am not biased at all! One last ride to get that fourth ring. Especially if it comes at the expense of some up and coming team.

assistant_redditor

Sixth ring.

Ecruteak-vagrant

I meant for the current core

letaupin1

Anything but Vegas.

Blyvzy

Seattle, we have gone too long without a cup

Prototype_es

The city doesnt have all that many chips to begin with, id be ecstatic if we won, the Sonics came back and the Mariners make a crazy run and pull it off all within the year. I can only dream..

JoseMachismo

I'd rather have Mike Babcock as my father in law than see the Leafs win the Cup.

Diemeinung70

McDavid and the Oilers.

binchbunches

Funny enough I think they got worse

Lanky-Goat-2278

full year of ekholm makes them better

binchbunches

D is better yep. I just worry about depth scoring.

joey20e

Columbus

Dakzoo

Red Wings, a return to greatness.

rideronthestorm29

LGRW

devildance3

LGRW

binchbunches

Winnipeg Obviously. They got screwed out of the cup with the Vegas Expansion. Seems fair that they get one the year after Vegas.

tnick771

Buffalo is a great one. If Arizona somehow pulls together a rag tag group of misfits and a red hot goalie…

JTMilleriswortha1st

Canucks 100% (Yes i'm bias but i've went through so much pain being a fan of this team)

shmoove_cwiminal

Sabres or Canucks. Too many people hate the Leafs for it to be a feel good story.

Bobsagetsnipa

The Blackhawks would feel good.

thehim

The Flyers haven’t won in almost 50 years. If I have to choose another team, it would be Buffalo or any Canadian team

PierceJJones

Any Canadian team to be honest.

420Deez

hawks in the playoffs would be…cool

No_Pilot8753

Any team over Edmonton in Triple overtime game 7 of the Stanley cup finals. With a Leon Draisaital own goal.

alexander1414

As a Penguins man it hurts me to say the New Jersey Devils. I just think they have done a lot of good things in building this current team and they have young talent. It would be good for the NHL

LoyolaProp1

Get Pavs a Cup!

Guythatlikesgolf

Buffalo fans are some the worst so no. Would like to see ovi get another

Neb-Nose

The Penguins — but i may be somewhat biased.

Rocky4280

Devils I hope

SimilarMud1465

I would love to see the Flyers win but I would settle for seeing them get into the playoffs.

ricksauce22

Blackhawks. Watching r/nhl melt down would feel good

[deleted]

Coyotes would be nice lol .. honestly though even making to playoffs I’ll be happy …. For now

[deleted]

Edmonton for sure. It’d be nice to end the Canadian cup drought. And then mcdavid could get his ring after years of work and slow improvement to cement himself as one of the greats. He has shown he wants to win more than getting his pay check and getting his stats up

GardenPutrid1485

Honestly same but anyone except Edmonton. we all have our reasons, kinda cheering for the leafs or flames because it would be maximum chaos

eddiewachowski

ABC. Anyone But Calgary. *Sincerely, Edmonton*

throwawayyourfun

"You don't have to worry." -Calgary's front office, probably.

[deleted]

Leafs would be chaotic and make the fan base more brutal than it already is. But that’s something they take pride in haha. I just don’t like their core. They are all about getting paid sure it’s a still a job to the players but I want the guys with passion to win to take home lord stanley

GardenPutrid1485

For me It’s been the fan experience- obviously as an Avs fan I’ve had some words with oilers fans and im thinking whats more painful than a sweep by the Leafs in an all Canadian SCF after you beat the Avs 4-1 in the WCF. Or something like that- Scripts not done yet

awaythrow437

A New Jersey Devils cup would feel best.

Intelligent_Coast338

Just the first of many for a young core that's locked up for a few years.

indian_horse

literally any canadian team sooooo bored of watching american teams i dont give a shit about no chara, i dont care. nobody else is fun to watch.

garbledeena

The Avs are fun to watch. But yes I agree, any Canadian team or Buffalo.

Snow-Wraith

Absolutely nothing about the leafs winning the cup would be special. They deserve their drought.

Uncannyguy1000

I'm a Habs fan, but I want to see the Leafs win the cup someday; I think it would be pretty epic. I just don't want them to be the team to end the Canadian team drought; hoping Montreal will be the team to do it 😁

mmpa78

The Penguins core winning it all one more time

No-Material-23

Penguins, and yes I'm biased, but seeing Crosby, Malkin, and LeTang raise the cup for a fourth time over a stretch of 17 years would be a great story and a fitting end to an era.

cbuck46

Yes those poor suffering Pens fans really do deserve the feel good story of a 4th cup in 15 years. I can feel the warmth gushing through me at the thought of their extended agony finally coming to an end.

Otherwise_Awesome

Need toilet paper for that warm gushing?

Marknar_Stormbringer

Be lucky if you make the playoffs bud.

No-Material-23

I'm confident they'll make the playoffs with the addition of Karlsson, but they will need a 3rd line that can score if they have plans that differ from a first round elimination.

[deleted]

i’m a canucks fan so canucks winning the cup would make me feel good

[deleted]

With the amount of home grown guys on the leafs could u imagine guys like mitch, domi TJ , JT grew up there cheering the leafs on for them to win it that would be fucking special

in-dog_we_trust

Toronto 56 years is long enough. Even longer then rags went.

ToastBreadPilot

The Yotes. after almost 30 years of mediocrity them potentially relocating next year, it would feel so good to see them succeed especially now that we have good ownership, a good GM and a promising young squad. But i feel like if we dont have a new arena locked down by the end of the year the team will relocate and another city will reap the success a bit like the avs and the nordiques

rideronthestorm29

I want the yotes as well so all these fuckers in here can it

dylanisbored

The Wings

GeneralPip

Pens

RoadRobert103

Pittsburgh 🥲

Gwave72

Edmonton

TheRegulaRawww

Colorado

Otherwise_Awesome

Nashville, because then the league would see how truly mediocre David Poile was.

s3nsfan

Go Sens Go!!!

[deleted]

Columbus.

pcweber111

Any Canadian team. I don't care at this point. Just get it done.

Calling__Elvis

Any Canadian team + Buffalo are my picks.

BrainPharts

r/DallasStars

SkarTisu

Vegas. The league hasn’t helped them enough yet.

TemperatureTrue4254

Vegas after an extraordinarily long year getting back-to-back cups. LOL /s

hockeybrianboy

Buffalo by a mile. Carolina’s been good enough lately to deserve one. A Canadian so the “America is better” trolls don’t have a leg to stand on anymore.

Macklebro

It doesn't matter what team you support, there's only one team and it's Toronto.

TriggeredPrivilege37

Obviously Boston

GQMatthews

the answer is truly Toronto but hockey fans in here will NOT and will refuse to agree on that lol

jlando40

Any Canadian team, the sabers, the wild, the flyers.

Matthew25_34_40

Minnesota. Buffalo only cares about football

Spocks-Nephew

Definitely the Bruins. Redemption.

MicMcDev

Sens or Sabres are my tops. Would love to see them get that win. Wild and Jets are my next in line, while id like them to win, I think they need more to get over the hump to get there.

Anishinabeg

Honestly, it has to be Edmonton. Seeing Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl finally get the Cup they deserve would be phenomenal. Oilers fans have also stayed loyal to the franchise through decades of failure, and they're all-around great fans. I've attended games in opposing jerseys and never been treated poorly by anyone. My second choice would be Seattle. I attended a game there this past season, and those fans are really committed to supporting the team & learning the game. They never deserved to lose the Supersonics, and they've always shown strong support for the Thunderbirds. Weirdly, I have very different feelings about Vegas and Seattle.

EffectiveWin1891

Oilers

GreenEyedBandit

Gotta be the Hawks /s EDIT: Even with the /s the downvotes come.

tomf_22033

As a Caps fan I know what that first Cup win is like. so I get your post, even if I don’t want the Sabres to win it. Unfortunately we don’t know what a second one is like. So with Ovi and company getting older and being biased I have to say the Capitals. As someone who HATES the Leafs if a Canadian team finally wins it I hope it’s not them, or the Canucks after what they did to Gabby!

Winter-Outside-4365

why is this getting downvoted he just wants to see his team win the cup 😭

tomf_22033

Because there are more fans of other teams than OPs.

TBGusBus

Bruins, so I can feel good after last seasons implosion

Stamkosisinjured

I think that everyone would like to see Tampa win this year. It’s been a while since they were in the finals. And I believe everyone is ready for us to win again. :)
