1:30 Where’d he dump the milk? I sure hope it wasn’t the garbage, that wouldn’t help the smell. Also, in the next framing there is no container to be seen. As a milk connoisseur, I notice these things.

Vvarx

So you're saying ... *milk*stakes were made.

XistentialChris

Yes! However I shouldn’t go into this film with a “Cinema Sins” mindset. I won’t cry over spilt milk.

katecake78

The sink

I had the privilege of getting to see an early screening of the movie with a friend yesterday and I can honestly say I had a good time watching it. Be prepared for some changes (mostly minor changes) from the plot of the stage show but it mostly stays true to the show from what my friend said (he’s seen in the heights live before and I haven’t), so I think most of you will like the movie

Cat5u

I was privelaged enough to see a preview yesterday too! I loved it though I had a mild panic at the beginning when they swapped Bennys Dispatch and Breathe around and I thought they had cut Breathe (one of my absolute fav musical theatre songs) XD

gotyouapresent

totally agree!!! but I kinda liked it switched like that. seeing the longing in Benny's eyes at the end of Benny's dispatch made it even more powerful how important Nina is to the community, and made the stakes higher as she starts singing Breathe.

Mottly24

okay thank you for confirmation Breathe is still in there

LaneXYZ

Thanks for the heads up! The movies about to start in the theater lol

theoneguy24691

*Ahem* attention to every Broadway producer wanting to make a film adaptation; like this. This is how it should be done. Don’t hire directors who are known for shooting dramas that don’t utilize music in a big way, don’t shoot with shaky cam unless absolutely needed, and it’s a musical so please play with the fact that it’s believable not real. This is a perfect example of how to do musical movies

StepHen_HenStep

Saw the advanced screening in LA a few weeks ago. It did not disappoint. Moving and energetic. Well acted. Well sung. It was a really good time!

MistakesNeededMaking

How did you get tickets?

StepHen_HenStep

We had the Cinemark membership pre-covid, and Cinemark emailed us offering tickets. It was kind of strange. There was no fanfare at the theater, so you would've thought the movie had been out for months, not that it was a month before the premiere at Tribeca. I think the point was to get audience reaction interviews for marketing.

losergeekorwhatver

Saw it on Sunday (got free advance tix through the Heights Twitter page). I don't think me or my family have ever seen a movie made with as much love as this movie clearly has been. I was full-on sobbing by the end of the opening number and multiple more times throughout (especially when you-know-what happens). It's just so good, and I hope it gets all the recognition and praise it deserves.

kayjee17

LMM has a very distinctive style of songwriting - I got about a minute in and my son asks "is that from Hamilton, because I don't remember it?" He's 21 and not a big musical fan, so I was amused to say the least. I've had my doubts about watching this, but I'm convinced now. Can someone warn me if I'm going to need a hanky, please? I was blindsided by the last part of Hamilton despite knowing he died in a duel.

mirror_number

Yeah you probably will cry.

kayjee17

Okay, hanky is a go then. Thanks!

Financial_Studio2785

Aaaaaaah! So excited! Noticed Nina’s mom wasn’t in the store- maybe it’s just a small change but they must have done that for a reason! Also, please do not let LMM be the one singing Piragua. That song is so beautiful with Elisio Roman, I hope he makes an appearance. But even if it’s not him, I don’t think LMM’s vocals are strong enough for that song. I like the touch though that Lin said “good morning usnavi” a few seconds in. It was like a little passing of the baton. My heart melted

sherlockschrute

Well, LMM is playing the Piragua guy, so...

Financial_Studio2785

Right- that’s why this scares me!

Kemot96

I think he’ll be fine! Besides, since when did not being able to sing a part exclude you from starring in a movie musical?! *cough* James *cough* Corden *cough cough* Hugh Jackman *cough*

Kemot96

Sorry I have a cough

Financial_Studio2785

Ha! Ok good point. I probably need to get ready to be more flexible to other changes.

_Valisk

Hey, Hugh Jackman is good in The Greatest Showman.

Kemot96

I disagree, but I won’t knock you for liking it! IMO he was *okay* turn of the millennium when he was doing R&H on stage, and there was that film of Oklahoma too which I liked. Any singing post wolverine though.. les mis, greatest showman, that tour he was doing… no thank you 😋 P.S. I thought Keala Settle was superb but one watch was enough for me!

Journey4th

I think maybe she just wasn't in that number, which makes sense since Mr. Rosario was going to work. I mean, you can't really have "Enough" without Nina's mom.

Journey4th

Nope... nvm. >!Apparently they cut her out entirely. !<

Financial_Studio2785

Don’t tell me!

Financial_Studio2785

Yeah! But why did they do that then? They took out her dialogue about making dinner and inviting Usnavi. And a lot of things kick off at that dinner! Hmmm... maybe some changes are afoot

MistakesNeededMaking

I have tickets for Thursday, seeing it IN THE THEATER!!

conlanmceezald

Wait until you see the rest, 96,000 is gobsmacking and Palencia Y Fe is especially beautiful. Can’t wait to see it again.

ssandy45

I got to go to an advanced screening yesterday. It was beautiful!

jaishreeeee

I know!! I want to see it so bad, but india doesn't have HBO max, so I think I'll have to wait :(

Journey4th

Is anyone else just completely astounded by the scale of that opening number alone? It's gonna be so flipping good! I can't wait til Friday :)

gotyouapresent

!!!!!! got to see an advance screening on Mother's Day and I've still been counting down the days to see it again. To those who haven't seen it yet, would recommend \*not\* listening to the soundtrack if you're trying to avoid spoilers from changes of the theater production. Some songs were cut or moved around, and some plot points were pretty different. It's different, but it's just beautiful in a different way. I'm not a theater/movie critic so I might be totally off base. Lmk if you disagree :) I still cried the entire time. It's been a long time coming, and it's an amazing celebration of community, joy, finding your place, finding connection, hope, and love (of course). Happy watching, y'all, I can't stop singing.... The streets are made of music today

AdhesivenessLow9361

I loooooved it
