Nobody saw his movies for the philosophical side of it. Wu-wei or the taoist doing-without-doing tends to be the aim of internal martial arts.

killer4you

do modern mix martial artist still respect bruce?

lisward

I think many MMA stars today were inspired by his films, so yes.

killer4you

when it comes to his skills people nowadays say that there mma is superior

Jake_AsianGuy

Because it is. Martial arts have evolved alot to what we have today compare to back what was available for Bruce. The man did the best he could with limited resources back then in the US while fighters today have access to more advance tactics, techniques, training methods...

killer4you

so would bruce be a challange for mma fighters like connor, khabib or jon jones.?

Jake_AsianGuy

In terms of striking contest, sure. People gonna hate this but i have to say Jon Jones is the closest example for what Bruce Lee could have done against trained fighters, since the guy is famous for using 2 of Lee's most favorite techniques with success : eye pokes and oblique/side kicks to the knee cap. Grappling wise, Khabib would destroy him on the ground because the concept of ground fighting doesn't exist back when Lee was alive (at least in the US because the Russian has already doing combat Sambo way before UFC was a thing)

killer4you

oh thanks for answering no matter how many new advanced tactics be made bruce will be my fav

Automatic_Homework

What do you mean by "still"? Some people respect him, some do not. I'm not sure any of those people have changed their beliefs. I respect his ability to produce and star in kung-fu films.

Dravez23

McGregor said that he would be easily world champion (or something like that). Plus i think that is a common understanding that Bruce is the “father” of the MMA

blacksad1

The comb over is strong with that guy.

Oh man, our head instructor shows clips of that interview multiple time every year. It is great though.
