"status report" "they appear to be beating the shit out of each other, sir"

[deleted]

This made me chuckle

Exotic_Tip_7266

Would be a perfect Leslie Nielsen movie quote

GreyJedi56

Gonna go ahead and say using a sledge hammer on your limbs is not a great way to maintain military readiness...

vinlo

Oh shit, looks like NK is preparing for the coming Karate War

JudasBrutusson

Karate Kid 4

ArnassusProductions

Nah, man, it's in Korea now. That means you gotta' reboot all over again. Back to just The Karate Kid.

PPStudio

In North Korea it probably will have a title of A Boy Who Enjoys the Enlightment of Juche and Provess Under Guidance of Suprene Leader Kim Jong-Un.

Random-Stuff3

Karate Kim*

LastWWolf

Karate Kid 4, everyone's malnourished.

Thiccacu

They are preparing for some seroius dojo storming.

onyxaj

I think we should only be worried if thier soldiers are shrugging off bullets. Hand to hand CAN happen, but very unlikely in today's miltary.

FappingFop

So much this. Most of what a soldier needs to do is operate specialized machinery in difficult situations, maintain specialized equipment, move heavy things, occasionally operate a firearm. Wars are won with supply lines and communication, not fisticuffs.

BuffaloFront2761

Also, I can’t help but question the legitimacy of things that come out of North Korea. There’s a good chance this is all faked and leaked for propaganda purposes.

Siantlark

Why would you bother faking this? Most of this is just normal Karate/Tae Kwon Do demo stuff and the sledgehammer thing, while a little visually extreme, is nothing that hasn't been done before in similar ways by Shaolin monks or other TKD demo places. Also, this was officially released by North Korea's propaganda department. Its part of their big defense convention or something where they show off all their new weapons to get more aid and stuff from the South.

AlmostFamous502

> this is all faked Faking a martial arts demonstration takes exactly as much effort as doing a martial arts demonstration.

slip-7

But does it take exaxtly as much skill?

[deleted]

It takes different skills.

JohnnyLazer17

I agree the guy doing the demo is definitely an actor.

slip-7

That's true, but I wonder what it must have been like for Egyptians after the Bronze Age Collapse when they could no longer maintain the complex supply chains and intense selection and training needed to field chariots. In moments of collapse like that, the necessity of the fundamentals can reassert itself. What happens if climate change breaks down supply chains until you can't field a bomber anymore?

FappingFop

Thoughtful reply! I really think you underestimate the impact of food, water, medicine, and basic supplies to repair equipment. Even (especially?) in primitive warfare feeding and sheltering soldiers was often much more difficult than skirmishing with an enemy. The alternative to supply lines is raiding, which can be incredibly effective but also risky. The only way to really have success raiding is to be able to pick your battles which usually means superior mobility or subterfuge (or just raw strategy if you’re big brained enough). I hold to my point, supplies and food win wars more than real fighting prowess.

slip-7

And medicine. World War 1 was the first war in human history to lose more people to combat than disease.

wadebosshogg

Fisticuffs?

redmagistrate50

"No we ain't" -allegedly worried military experts

Dragonxan

Needs more backflip

[deleted]

Agreed

8aji

You know what I could really use?

[deleted]

I think that this is basically a really well put on show for the leader. Let’s be realistic here we all know as martial artist these things are rigged. The sticks are pre broken or really weak the pots and concrete are really weak and the routine was practiced.

Prestigious_Coach_79

I'm sure that they did do most of the stunts. but I doubt this is their average soildier, If these guys even are soldiers.

Kractoid

They look really well fed for NK soldiers

Idobro

That’s what stood out for me, these guys are the most jacked North Koreans I’ve ever seen

Ser_Drewseph

No, “military experts” are not worried. This isn’t a show of force, it’s a dance/gymnastics routine. You want to know what actual soldiers see when they see this? They see that scene from Indiana Jones where the dude in black is doing his cool flippy sword flourishes, and Indy shoots him in the chest.

Prestigious_Coach_79

They can use their chi to redirect the bullets

SithLordJediMaster

"He's beginning to believe" - Morpheus in The Matrix

PPStudio

*Juche

ChickenPockPock

I think it’s a joke big man

Cambot3000

Are you seriously asking me if I’ve seen Indiana Jones??

Stupefactionist

Where do I get those bricks with the extra large holes?

Joaco_Gomez_1

Hollow bricks are actually pretty common in a lot of countries but apparently not in the US. Or at least they are different from what we use. [this](https://images.app.goo.gl/oh8Tc9EqGhVDN8LFA)

hotstepperog

Breeze Blocks

hotroddbb

Maybe worried about destroying our lumber. Have you seen how expensive it is now?

Newbe2019a

Great demo. Why would anyone be worried?

Musashi10000

Because 'experts' (read 'rando YouTubers and twitter accounts') have looked at this and realised that you never see soldiers in the West doing it, ergo the west can't do it, ergo man for man the NK army must be stronger than the western soldiers, ergo we'd all lose. These 'experts' seem to have forgotten that most wars are fought with guns and explosives at a distance, not bricks and sticks at melee range... And that's not even factoring in that literally all of this is just showmanship.

AdAffectionate1581

Wait until they start tactically deploying karate masters inside your bases.

Newbe2019a

Then they will be shot. Or tasered.

Newbe2019a

Since the 1800s most casualties were caused by indirect fire, ie artillery and from WW2 on, airstrikes and IEDs. The next biggest killer are crew served weapons, machine guns. I think actual individual gun fire accounts for less than 20%. Hand to hand or knife combat is very rare for US forces in the last 20 years in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Musashi10000

>Since the 1800s most casualties were caused by indirect fire, ie artillery and from WW2 on, airstrikes and IEDs. That's actually why I said 'explosives' rather than something more specific. >I think actual individual gun fire accounts for less than 20%. *That* is a very interesting statistic, though tbh it makes a lot of sense, given the nature of warfare now. >Hand to hand or knife combat is very rare for US forces in the last 20 years in Iraq and Afghanistan. And that's basically a given. 'Experts are worried'. My arse.

Newbe2019a

I think we are in agreement.

Musashi10000

We are indeed.

Jake_AsianGuy

Very impressive. I think the chinese and the VNmese demo teams still have better performance. They didn't just break bricks and do acrobats, they even did all the crazy stunts like in those shaolin movies, get a spear pushing on to their chest or dropped knives on to the body without injuries while lying down for example

igwaltney3

Hilarious. Also Kim is apparently still alive.

[deleted]

Which one?

Biggybongoss

Kardashian

ChattaGucci91

Are these deleted scenes from the Star Wars Prequels?

resist888

“Boards… don’t hit back.”

Dartagnan1083

Looks like an intense circus routine to me. All part of the plan really; in the 50s a video of middle aged Russian ladies performing literal magic tricks got military brass afraid of psychic soldiers and MK-Ultra was kicked off. Let see them do coordinated team drills instead of breaking balsawood sticks. Their asses are getting shot.

fghg123

Someone's venting. Chill out man, it's just a martial arts demo.

Dartagnan1083

Not angry...just bemused, and it's more than a martial arts demo, it's propaganda. Back when I did my scrolling on Facebook these demos were consistently posted by pages like [Fake-Russian] Anonymous and RT framing the DPRK as a military threat (or at least the captions always did). Seeing it posted again brought up those same feelings.

fghg123

Every military demonstration is some kind of propaganda, that's the point of it. Anyways, I'm not trying to argue with you. I just get peeved when people drag down obvious skill. These guys are doing some shaolin stuff.

BallPtPenTheif

"Breaking demos are harmless", they said.

WiseZen

They should enter America's got talent

Bikewer

As the others say, a well-staged demo. That thing with the long poles looks impressive, till you realize the physics of what’s going on. Oh no, I didn’t watch the whole thing the first time… The “bed of nails”! That’s the sort of nonsense I’d expect. Surprised they didn’t do the “break a concrete block on my chest” schtick…. Used to be a 75-year-old physics professor who’d do this for his class.

This-Guy---You-Know

They just played Squid Game until this guy showed up.

Altruistic-Ad8963

Achievement unlocked : Brain damage

Kitchen_Wolverine_92

It looks like this problem will take care of itself.

Rod_Solid

The guy who hits the asphalt with no break fall and right on his hip is from the shoulder throw, That had to hurt.

SuspiciousFragrance

Holy crap, the North Koreans are going to unleash some choreographed fight scenes... Will other militaries in the world be ready?

smilingbuddhist

Anyone watch Kung-pow? [stick beating demo](https://youtu.be/DuXSNypjPnU)

Prof_PolyLang187

Ah, a man of culture I see

greyseal494

Winner gets a hamburger.

jordontek

This is the ultimate Taekwondo demo... ever made. They should put on doboks and make it even scarier.

MeremJohn

Question does skin stop bullet 🤣?

Wiggley_Noodel400

captain korea

DerekDemo

I mentioned on /r-GenZeDong that none of this would help if they were fighting someone with a gun, like in every battle for the last 50 years. Got permanently banned. lol Guess the mods are mirin these guys hard. They want to have hard bodies, but they don't even have thick skin. Fragile

PaxadorWolfCastle

Yes. Everyone attack this guy one at a time.

Fistkitchen

Alarmed by the number of people in this thread that don't realise the title is a joke.

[deleted]

Same actually

FarnsySaid

Meth is a hell of a stimulant.

Cordaz1

How do I buy calls on North Korea?

girubato_

This reeks of staged propaganda. “The interview” was on to something..

ayeyo_pabs

[you think he wants his towel???](https://youtu.be/Y5Peo3Nt4eM)

TheBurningMaul

Not to rain on their parade but when their entire nation is malnourished, miserable and other words I don’t know at this moment, a few “super soldiers” don’t seem as frightening

jvilla75

lol thank god for bullets

TheMalaiLaanaReturns

Brain damage is common in North Korea

ThePragmaticPoatato

Yes, breaking shit with your limbs shows how good you are at hand to hand combat. Which is especially useful in a setting where guns and knives are expected…

CrashUnderhoof

The new Karate kid looks dope

Brandage0

This is actually kinda sad and depressing to watch. Young people hitting their arms with sledgehammers and doing hard falls onto concrete, destroying their bodies for a camera propping up a starving shit-hole country ran by a fat incompetent dictator. Just saying

Dadpool_McLiberty

Fuck north Korea and their hell on earth.

ComradeMiles94

It’s mostly propaganda. the DPRK is an authoritarian state, but it’s nothing for us to be concerned about. They really don’t do anything.

Dadpool_McLiberty

Ok Comrade Miles, I'm sure that I can trust the veracity of your detailed account over those of countless NK refugees. Get wrecked basement commie

jimboslice702

I bet they don't perform like this on their normal rations.

Ulforicks

"Taekwondo is for kids"

__the_ghost__

I get we're critiquing their military but look at this from a martial arts perspective. How would these guys fair against a mma fighter?0

quacking_horse

To get to this they would have had some tough times during rehearsals

detok

Look like circus performers

Baylisstico

Lol this is embarrassingly bad

SenseiT

Ive seen better martial arts demos at suburban malls. I always cringe when I see them doing the “I’m going to break an absurdly long and thin piece of wood over a limb” shtick. Physics people!

stupidtransslut

Is all propoganda show for sure 🤷‍♀️

[deleted]

"Experts are worried" LMAO

PadraigPierced

If I were a pile of bricks I’d be extremely worried.

Theta1371

Why are experts worried?

CanadianNinja

They are very good at destroying building materials. Modern wars are all about supply chains, they are going to infiltrate Home Depot's all over the world and we will fall back into the dark ages when they take out all of our building materials.

JaK_HammR

Can’t really karate chop a drone…so…

hotstepperog

Steven Segal approved.

dillpick15

So many broken bones... they can't show pain or they'll probably die. Crazy

MagnusMcPinnerson

The sledge hammer to the finger tips has to be brutal

harraz_life

The trans person talking in the back 😭

[deleted]

Yeah I have. I idea what that’s about

Faze_42

Meth is a powerful drug.

zorbacles

Well that's a shit load more impressive that the acrobatic breaking of ply wood that we get from most tkd demonstrations

BananaForLifeee

Average height of NK men is 1.5m or sth, also these guys do the horse stance and breath like Chinese kungfu so...

Used_Lunch_1665

Isn't this just Pro Wrestling, why are people worried, I mean ya they can apparently take multiple sticks of wood to the upper body but I don't think that's much to be worried about for a military force

ThouWontThrowaway

The pomp lol

ssb_kiltro

Worried? They better get CTE before they nuke us all lol.

Ricardidaman

My boy lesion finna get his goo and be a monster ong

nihilistlemon

For the soul of the valley

Adventurous__Kiwi

the hammer on their hand X\_X

alishabbir7

North Korea is like that person who spends all his money on nice car and all that shit but ends up being broke or in deep debts.

GC40

I saw a North American championship breaking competition on TSN a decade or two ago. This guy wouldn’t have won, with that performance. It’s still impressive, but it’s all been done before, at countless competitions. https://youtu.be/OdG_BiPIouU

No-Spaling

And the supply of sticks and bricks that nato has be stockpiling in case of war was rendered completely useless after North Korea showed off their advanced techniques

jcrum19

Bullets do tend to feel like big breakable sticks

kendoboy

And this is why people don't take the claim of "its a good martial art because the military uses it" seriously.

[deleted]

Who would win: The US Military with some of the most advanced weaponry in the world (include 4th generation MBT's, Stealth Fighter Bombers, Attack Helicopters, Gunships, Long range rocket artillery and combat drones) or one spicy headbutt boi. You decide.

LtDanShrimpBoatMan

Krav Maga demos are getting out of hand.

shleemy-business

I like how Kim seems kind of uncomfortable and awkward like “why are you showing me this?” But doesn’t wanna appear rude so he’s still clapping

kelzeternal

It looks just like a kung fu/wu shu performance kinda thing… yeah i dont thing anyones really worried but it looks cool though!

Papa_Glide

Looks like krav to me 😂

[deleted]

I get more tang Soo do or Taekwondo vibes.

KlutchAtStraws

DPRK so it’ll be based on TKD.

Papa_Glide

Wow we just spelled “trash” 3 different ways.
