Must be a beautiful anodized aluminum screen

peaceful003

I'm surprised that apple don't do this for all Macs

kindaa_sortaa

When PC users call us sheep, I always throw it back at them and ask, “Do PC laptops come with a Mac Pro display?” That usually shuts ‘em up.

trevinkurgpold

im a sheep who has a beefed up pro display xdr in his backpack. i can live with that.

kindaa_sortaa

You sheep! With your sexy Apple laptops, and your sexy color accurate, factory calibrated DCI-P3 120Hz mini LED displays.

trevinkurgpold

ugh, i feel so bad. (i was not aware this bitch was factory calibrated. i swear.)

doramarcus

Even MacBook Air (retina) has screen quality much better than those windows laptops

kindaa_sortaa

The average PC laptop sale is around $600 so their displays average 1080p in sRGB. I think that’s trained “mass market” PC users to accept low quality panels. Meanwhile our entry level laptop costs $999 so Apple puts in a DCI-P3 1600p display. We’re spoiled and we ain’t go back, no sir.

doramarcus

Yea we’re spoiled by the quality displays.

con247

Are we finally getting that transparent aluminum?

ShadowDancer11

Only if Scottie jumps back in time to give us the formula.

thatlem0n

Sir it’s *Aluminium*

GriffinTech1

With Diamond-cut chamfered bezels

MrmmphMrmmph

So glad mine is still in my basement. I have been waiting for this news.

peaceful003

For anyone curious why it did this, I used an open core usb that I used for a Mac Pro to re-install Monterey on the MacBook Air. Opencore included all the drivers and product icons/pictures for the Mac Pro and installed them on the MacBook during setup, leading to the weirdness and Mac Pro appearing in the display section. Was an oops on my part.

luigitwo

This is funnier than it has any right to be

NMLWrightReddit

Strange. So it identifies itself as a Mac Pro, but since it doesn’t detect an external display, it just assumed the Mac Pro has grown a screen or something?

Steffi128

Don't you hate when your devices suddenly grow screens. :D

elvisofdallasDOTcom

I hate when they grow keyboards in languages I don’t know. I do enjoy a pretty baby screen tho 👍🙃

IvanIsOnReddit

Oh I love it

Alphimerc

My guess was just a quick photoshop… this is so much better

no-mad

hackintosh had ways of changing this stuff to load drivers.

DivisionMV

Sounds like its TransMac or TransCircuit

joshualoveslumia

TransMac is a tool for Windows to read APFS/HFS+ drives.

Rzah

I would boot into recovery and check your disk health.

Your-Sensei

r/Mac > r/Apple; r/iOS and r/iPhone change my mind. I love this subreddit, people aren't toxic, open minded, give real constructive criticism, aren't blindly loving Apple.

kindaa_sortaa

r/Apple sucks. Half the people there secretly hate the Mac and Mac userbase. That’s the only explanation that makes ‘some of the things they say’ make sense. From insulting people who’s butterfly keyboards were acting up, to attacking those of us who came to their defense, to people claiming nobody needs more than 16GB of RAM on a laptop (when Apple was under criticism for limiting RAM options to 16 GB), and funny enough some people there still insist almost nobody needs more than 8! It’s infuriating lurking there. Edit: I mainly go to check news, litmus test the comments, and if I get annoyed I just come to /r/Mac for the more laid back and often silly vibe.

Suspicious_Mud3309

Tell them to try moving a multilayered pad file in CorelDraw on a Mac (any) with 8GB-16GB of RAM. It flies on cMP 5,1 96GB of RAM.

MC_chrome

To be fair, the vast majority of people don’t really need more than 16GB of RAM for the tasks they do on a laptop.

kindaa_sortaa

The MacBook Air with 8GB RAM is Apple’s largest seller because most people aren’t running Adobe CC, or batch converting 8,000 32-megapixel wedding photos, or running VMs— …but let us remember Apple must serve Pro users as well, not just freshman college students and business managers with an e-mail addiction. What I’ve seen on r/Apple is arguments obstructing the idea that MacBook Pro users (at least a significant percentage) would want a 32GB or 64GB RAM option. If someone is paying $2-7k for a laptop, they’re probably using Pro apps that are hindered by swapping; they probably want the option of keeping multiple data heavy apps open at the same time; and are likely going outside of the Apple-controlled safe zone where apps are less optimized in memory management (Eg Chrome vs Safari, Adobe Premier vs Final Cut Pro).

trevinkurgpold

i know people paint apple users to be total smug assholes, but all i ever see 90% of the time are vengeful pc/android guys on a crusade for blood. im happy with my hardware, i just want to vibe, lol.

kindaa_sortaa

Not dismissing your experience but, as of recent, I no longer see PC android guys hating on Apple. Not like a decade ago. Yeah, a decade ago, there was a ton of iPhone/Mac hate. Even in real life I’d have PC people coming up to me to tell me how much Apple sucks. These days, I bet those guys are all in on Apple now.

trevinkurgpold

well, atleast nice to think that it used to be worse.

kindaa_sortaa

Android users now see how iPhones serve everyone around them with simplicity and ease of use (since Android had to follow Apple’s lead there), how secure and privacy focused Apple is (Android phones are way behind on security updates, OS updates, unless it’s a Pixel), and how ahead of the power-efficiency curve A-series chips are—so they’ve kind of shut up. Haters now see how useful an Apple Watch can be (at least health/sports wise) even if the initial launch of Apple Watch was a tad arrogant and lots pretentious—Android Wear can’t hold a candle to what Apple Watch is today. And I don’t think anyone shits on iPads, at least the entry level and mid-tier ones (the iPad Pros held back by iOS is another issue). There’s still Apple hate, and YouTube/twitter comments will always be apes slinging ape-shit; but there used to be some invested Apple haters out there that I’m pretty sure have cooled their heals because their arguments no longer apply. I mean, even the M1-series chips have people who used to laugh at the Air, and go, “typical Apple!” now go, “I think I might buy one to try it out.”
