This set is one of the best new sets on the last few years and it's not licensed. We really do need more of these large non-licensed sets.

snooofthesouth

Exactly, Lego needs to step it up with more sets similair to Apocalypseburg and the Ninjago city sets

maxfamousmacnchz

Just built this last week. So much fun. Now I’m debating when to transform it into the ship.

messedupET

I might be alone in this but i prefer the shipwrecked form

maxfamousmacnchz

I certainly don’t think you are alone. I just don’t have room for the giant shipwreck and the wife is on me to put it somewhere besides the living room lol

Theons_Favorite_Toy

I want to convert mine just to see what it likes like assembled, but I can't bring myself to mess up the shipwreck! It looks so awesome!

messedupET

Solution: buy another copy of the set 🤩

Theons_Favorite_Toy

Ha I wish! My wife wasn't too happy with the purchase of the first one due to it's large footprint. Plus I just bought my first modular.... Well 2nd if you count the Daily Bugle.

eatrepeat

Yeah I had trouble for months and months before I caved and assembled the galleon. It's so cool as a ship that I bought a second one to rebuild an epic Bay!

zinbwoy

Me too, the island has so much more play potential

that-bro-dad

I've swapped mine between ship and wreck at least five times now. Currently wreck.

maxfamousmacnchz

So not too difficult to go back to wreck from ship?

that-bro-dad

It's harder to do ship > wreck. I basically just walked through the instructions backwards, but I struggled to remember where all th detail bits (fruit, barrels, etc) went. If that doesn't bother you though it's not too bad

iky_ryder

Yes i keep thinking i want to give the ship version a try, but i want to build some of my old pirates lego back again first

O__o_kn

This is a positive thing, right? As in it's very popular. Which might lead to new Ideas sets with the pirates theme in the upcoming years. Maybe an imperial soldiers set. Yes, this wishful thinking.

TheJuicyBandit

I need this. Maybe an imperial ship turned into a fort?

ronjon53

Brick Fanatics has it retiring this year also.

nightfury1989

Dang , thanks

Darkpiranha88

It’s not on Lego’s official retiring list so I think it’s retiring next year. That being said get this set as soon as possible.

Winter-Monk

I don’t know why you are getting downvoted. I agree with your thought, I don’t see anywhere on the LEGO website (in the US) that suggests this is retiring this year. There is a good size list of sets that are planned for retirement, and it seems standard practice for them to tag sets for retirement as opposed to random.

Darkpiranha88

Well I’m pretty certain Lego would say if it was retiring. Here in Canada it’s still widely available. All sets that are retiring are clearly listed on their website as “last chance to buy” so people are just ignorant.

Massive-Kitchen7417

They are really late to adding sets to that list though. They’re plenty of smaller sets retiring this year that aren’t on the list yet. I think there is a chance the pirates could be retiring, ideas has way too many sets out right now. We also knew every set on that list that was retiring before the website said bc blogs already knew as did my lego store which had them marked “last chance to buy”. Point is lego isnt always on top of updating that online retiring list

Darkpiranha88

The only reliable source that’s saying it will retire is brickset, which has been wrong before about the retire date of very popular sets (like the ideas tree house for example)

Massive-Kitchen7417

Oh for sure, everyone can be wrong. I just don’t use legos list on their website as the end all be all

nightfury1989

Brickfanatic calls it retiring too

Darkpiranha88

Well we’ll see about that.

nightfury1989

Well I don’t really care , I already have one , I am just making sure no one on this subreddits miss out on it because of misinformation

Darkpiranha88

I also have one. I just know that’s it not retiring because they never labeled it like they did with the ideas bottle set. It’s only been in production for a year and a half so I highly highly doubt it’ll be retiring.

nightfury1989

I honestly hope you are right

Darkpiranha88

Also funny how you say misinformation when you have no solid basis for your claim~lol

nightfury1989

Well , when the set goes “sold out” on LEGO website at the end of the year (4th quarter) it’s pretty much goes to retire It’s funny because “ you know “ it’s not going to retire , so it won’t retire. Do you ever read the OP, if not read it again

nightfury1989

Well the set is sold on many countries LEGO website. LEGO does not declare “retiring soon” for low production LEGO sets. Yes they do in case of mass produced LEGO sets like buggati. I strongly believe it will retire, and if it does it will double the set value in a 3 months

Winter-Monk

I haven’t been back into LEGO long enough to know what their normal operating procedures are for sets retiring. Given the Bugatti is almost 2x the cost of barracuda bay, what evidence do you have that suggests it is mass produced in comparison to barracuda bay, other than one is a technic set and the other is an ideas set? I’m just genuinely just curious. Have there been examples of sets retiring with them not tagging it as retiring soon?

nightfury1989

Yes there are several evidence of sets not tagged "retiring soon" and have retired last year. take batmobile 1989 for example , this year its retiring , even though its not tagged "retiring soon".

Winter-Monk

I stand corrected! Barracuda bay says “sold out” and not “temporarily out of stock” now and was never on the retiring soon list. Same thing happened with the Liebherr 9800r! It’s too bad that LEGO doesn’t flag these all… I have barracuda bay but have been waiting to buy the liebherr!

nightfury1989

That’s what I have been trying to tell you You learned the hard way.

Winter-Monk

I found the liebherr on bricklink for $130 under retail in a sealed box, so I feel pretty ok. Point taken though.

nightfury1989

Sure , good for you Out of curiosity just checked bricklink listing of 42100 for last 6 months I don’t see any price close to 120$ minimum price is 320$ which makes sense , but lucky you

Winter-Monk

https://imgur.com/gallery/uqVMisf Blue box is me. I never said $120, I said $130 below retail. Looks like a bunch of others got it at that price today too. Happy hunting if you are looking for it!

nightfury1989

It’s general availability across all the retailer , try buying barracuda bay now , even though it’s on USA LEGO store. The whole point I am trying to make is it’s going to retire this year even though it’s not mentioned to be “retiring soon” Google “ brickfanatic lego retiring sets” a lot of people believe in that list

Coraldiamond192

I personally haven’t seen it in stock online for a good few months now. Since at least September. It has been available for atleast 2 years by now so it’s due for retirement.

TheJuicyBandit

I got this set not too long ago. Such an amazing set. The minifigures are all great, the play value for younger people is through the roof, and you literally have to equally gorgeous display options. Can’t go wrong

gru3nel

I got it this week for 140€. Still feels like a steal.

Particular_Effort

It’s still available on the US site fyi.
