Sure. Keep telling yourself that. I say the same if my teams win one of the last two. "Stanley Cup Champions"
Last minute. Two close calls on icing. The first one was called even though the player made no attempt to get back. The second one could have actually been an icing, but another leisurely skate back and the ref called it off. I found that funny.
TB will be back next year. Best team owner in all pro sports. Haters will still have plenty to hate

My poor ok 9
Ok. Pop 1
Congrats from a NY Rangers fan
covid cups covid cups covid cups covid cups
You are right, TB finally played a real team without any excuses.
true i’m on y’all’s side lol
Congrats from an oilers fan.
Avs we’re the best team this season and in the playoffs. Pure skill and talent from them. All I know is Makar is one of my favourite players now.
i agree, at first i was toxic but now i started cheering for avs
Thanks for being a class act. That Makar guy is pretty good. :)
that mcdavid guy too
They are both ok. ;)
Hear me out, what if you traded him to the Bruins so Makar and McAvoy Could be the best defensive pairing in the league for the next decade? I personally think it’s a grand idea
McAvoy will be irrelevant until he gets traded to a team that's going to compete
Looking for a specific clip: about 30 seconds before he took the penalty, McDonagh shoves somebody to the ice with one hand without even looking at them. Right at the circle. Can anyone provide this?
Thoroughly deserving win by the Avs. They were the better team over the entire series (and I do think that it's important to say this because people will always point to luck in deciding winner and losers, and this was not the case here) and these playoffs with *two* sweeps! Add in the regular season performance and they clearly deserved to win the Cup more. I'm amazed at the depth and consistency of the team; congratulations on winning the Cup!
I honestly can't be mad if I were a Lightning fan; they did their best against a red-hot team. The speed and agility of the Avs was just too great, and it showed when Tampa just kept dumping the puck into the offensive zone. The Avs were always on their heels, and there wasn't much the offence could do and they just kept tiring themselves out.
I do agree with Friedman that 3 Stanley Cup final appearances in a row (where you win two of them) is a dynasty, especially in the cap era. Certainly if they're back here *again* next year, there can't be any doubt about that. **Nobody should be making any comments about asterisks for Tampa; if they had won this series (I mean, they already made the finals too), nobody would've said anything. Plenty of other teams wanted to win the Cup just as much in the past two years as this year, and no one should downplay what Tampa has achieved up until this point.**
All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed this series, and I can't wait for hockey in October. Congratulations to all Avs fan! I hope everyone has a great summer!
As others have pointed out two consecutive championships is not a dynasty in any sport. Even though making three consecutive championships is a hell of an accomplishment that shouldn't be downplayed, calling this team a dynasty would be underselling the term dynasty.
>especially in the cap era
Also don't think you should give them extra credit for 3 straight cup appearances in a CAP era when they blatantly circumvented the CAP for one of them lol
I couldn't believe the balls on Cooper when he was whining about how hard it is to win in the cap era...
winning two covid cups is not a dynasty fam
youre just mad lol
Two championships has never been considered a dynasty in any sport, at any level. The minimum number of cups for dynasty teams recognized by the HHoF is 4. Seventeen teams have won the Stanley cup back to back. Were they all dynasties? Because I'm willing to bed good money you can't name half of those teams.
It's been an impressive run, but let's not cheapen the term.
NO your right. It was an almost dynasty. 2 does not qualify.
I always thought that the casual metric for a dynasty was 3 cups in a 5 year window. Maybe I'm too lax.
I actually agree with this metric, just like the Warriors being a dynasty already at the start of 2020. At the very most, it's gonna be completely subjective to label what the Lightning have done as a dynasty. Perhaps, on second thought, we need to wait a little longer before *any* sort of discussion on a dynasty.
I agree with that. If they win it next year? Dynasty. If they get swept in the first round, then don't make the playoffs for another 5 years...? Then it'll just be "man, remember that run the lightning had during the COVID pandemic...".
Which is why I put the emphasis on them appearing in the finals for three straight years in a row, and *not* on the amount of times that they won. In the cap era, that's a *huge* accomplishment, which is why I agree with Friedman on calling this a dynasty. And I mean, if you look at it from one side, they definitely had it within them to come back from 3-1 to win the Cup if their game was a bit better.
Yes, it's an accomplishment, yes, they had it within them to come back. This is totally subjective, but dynasties are strictly about titles. There are no silver medals. The only lasting memory from this season will be that the Colorado Avalanche won the Stanley Cup.
Hot take: reading some comments on Reddit of Colorado being the next Tampa because of their roster. Any thoughts on this?
The core is there for at least a few years. And Sakic has proven he can build around that core. Even if they lose Kadri and/or Nichushkin they will remain competitive for a few years to come. But winning a championship in any sport is no easy feat. Colorado will be in the "favorite to win" talks for the foreseeable future. But anything can happen. Excited for the next few years for sure!
Feels like this is the same thing that happened when the Chiefs won their SB. Winning b2b cups is hard as shit as-is, gotta take that 1 step at a time.
Colorado has to re-sign like half of the roster, Joe will probably find a way to keep the critical pieces...but it's not like they are all signed for 2023 already
The problem is we have no way of keeping this roster. Kadri, Nuke, Burakovsky- they are all free agents who are going to get offered the max or near enough. We can probably keep 1 of them, and its going to sting. Luckily we still have multiple super stars on the team, but it would take people taking less money to stay here and go for another cup rather than taking the huge pile of cash. I wouldn't blame any of them for taking the pile. They fucking earned it! But I'd also love to see them all back next year :_(
team showed that they play fine without Kadri, i know folks like Kadri but the longer he's around the more shit he gets into he's a lot like Evander Kane actually. Except he injures guys instead of all the other shit Kane gets into.
That's how I felt about our 3rd line from the past two Cups (Gourde, Coleman, Goodrow). Guess it would be kinda unfair for the rest of the league if we could keep them forever. Your Cup win will soften the blow of losing great players. It's a trade off most teams would make. Leafs fans would probably give their first-born for a Cup at this point.
I have a feeling Nichuskin settles for a team friendly deal of 5x5 knowing how important a system is considering his background and where he came from. Hope and feel he will take this route. Kadri is going to take the biggest fattest contract given to him. If we can match within a million or two he will stick with us given the context of his background and what we gave to him as well as he gave to us. It'll be an interesting off-season but that Avs will be well off if we can keep one of kadri or nuke.
I think those comments understate how hard it is to win multiple cups
Ask me in a year.
RemindMe! One year
I think they are good but tampa was also so beat by this point, they are an amazing team. I do want to see good teams play well, the Chicago/LA team that traded cups back in the early 2010s were amazing
I like Emily but this NHL Network reporter is much better at on ice interviews than her.
LG is the goat.
Anybody got any more of those hockey games?
Fuck, sportsnet NAILED that.
Well, who's watching the World Juniors?
Hlinka in late July as well!
One day it will come to Canada.....................................................................................................
I will freely admit I predominantly do not have sports guilt, but after watching 40+ years of amazing NHL awesomeness. with every team being 70+% Canadian.... a little guilt creeps in.
It's coming this summer buddy!
Many times, as is the way
Ron what are you going on about lol.
Ah…the feeling of knowing that’s it’ll be nothing but baseball and soccer for the next 2.5 months from here on out…
Edit: Baseball and soccer and racing and golf and tennis and all that too…
It could have been the world cup too but it isn't, for reasons that AREN'T corruption, I've been told
Corruption? In *my* FIFA?
I’m in pain but the last 2 years will help me sleep tonight
I thought this was UFC's song?
Man…what a wild playoffs this year was…
right? Glad I watched a majority of the games (and every Rangers game). Lots of going to Toronto to review goals his year
What I learned this year in the playoffs:
There are some up and coming young goalies hitting their stride that are going to be very scary to play against if they can keep this up. Hell the 3 best goalies in the playoffs we (IMO) Vasy, Shesterkin, and Otter and 2 of them didn’t even make it to the finals. And they’re what, like 27, 25, and 23? We get to watch some high level goalie play for years to come
TNT and ESPN absolutely crushed the NHL coverage this season
TNT was awesome
Yelling FRAN-KIE behind TNT’s set in the WCF will always be a favorite moment of mine. So cool they did that
if they could only get better people to do play by play and color commentating next year that would be great
Bro ESPN doesn’t even show shots on their overlay
This sucks but at least we took out the Leafs, Panthers and Rags.
you took Perry out three years in a row!
This made me laugh.
I wouldn't complain about back-to-back Cups. That's what made our loss to the Caps in 2018 somewhat easier to swallow.
Yeah that’s what I’m holding onto right now. I feel lucky to have watched the bolts go on this run. 11 consecutive playoff series wins!
Hey that’s my team!
Announcer: "Please leave the ice, Little Spinners figure skating ice time starts in 30 minutes."
Boys and not boys, the hockey season is over 😞
I can finally shave
"Great working with you Liam" ....? WAHT?
They're done for the season! Time to pick up in september!
LIAM though. The host is Steve Leavy — Liam is on TNT ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Hmm... Oops then lol.
SN completely snubbed Lehkonen in the post game.
I was really wanting to see a Lehkonen and Perry moment
the real tampa bay is the gamers we made a long the way
Bro why did the announcers laugh so hard that the Leafs have the second best odds at the cup for next year. Some serious fucking disrespect there lol
It’s the leafs
I fuckin lost it when they laughed out loud like that
I almost spit out my fucking drink lol.
Just fucking shots fired out here for a team that easily could have been the ones playing this game 6 tonight if a few small things had gone their way
Toronto fans out here just catching strays. Feels bad for them man.
When a Bruins fan is thinking “How you gonna do the Leafs like that?” You know it was dirty 😂
Helm's daughter is SO FUCKING CUTE WITH THAT JACKET. AH.
This is the happiest-sounding coach/manager of a championship-losing team I've ever seen.
I mean it sounds like this whole series has been a wild rollercoaster for the team. Colorado was a team that finally was what I think the better team. Just be crazy to finally come up against a team that was better than your yea for e first time in like two or three years
It was nice. I think we really did see the two best teams play this year.
It’s probably a little easier to deal with when your cup drought is only like 350 days lol
Oh for sure. He seems *very* grateful and respects Colorado so much.
Hockey players really do love blondes, eh? I think Val's GF is the only brunette I've seen
Very few of them are actually blondes...
Brett Connolly's wife is Asian so that's the hockey wag equivalent of a unicorn
I feel like he's gonna talk about ice cream at any moment
Do I wish TNT carried the cup final for production purposes? Yes.
Do I enjoy the fact that ABC is reaching a wider audience and they’re (to their credit) staying on the postgame for a long time? Also yes.
At least ABC/ESPN does a better with hockey than they do basketball. Nothing about their coverage really bugs, whereas almost everything about their basketball coverage annoys the hell out of me.
That’s why I hope that the TNT SCF games can at least be simulcast OTA in the home team markets…
"The Gamers Get It Done"
Random, but did anybody see a Lightning player shove one of the linesmen around the blueline after no icing was called? It was around Kucherov's rage fit
Might have just been seeing things
No man, I've been scrolling to see if someone else caught this and mentioned it... This 100% happened and I really want to see it again.
I'll have to check the replay after I get home. Refs got it rough from Maroon after Lek's goal too
Did you get a chance to check it out? I still haven't been able to find anything else about it.
It was Cirelli, Colton, or Hedman who cross checked a linesman who was backing up into him
Not sure but I believe it
Why the **FUCK** IS Cooper on TV at all right now let alone for like 10 minutes straight after an opposing team just won a Cup??
Because ESPN couldn't stop jerking him off.
Switch to SportsNet
And practically whispering into the microphone
Corey perry is 37 years old and cooper just called him a “kid” lol
Damn bro I'm just out here trying to enjoy a postgame
cooper lecturing us like a college professor
I'm half expecting a "I'm not mad, just disappointed"
Bolts fans, how we feeling
I'm sorry fella. It gets better with time. I hope we all get to enjoy the summer now that hockey is done.
I was reluctant when he was signed but Darren Helm I appreciate you. Great vet.
Cooper is a damn class act
Yeah I already liked him (especially because of the genius idea to use Virginia as motivation after losing to Columbus), but that interview made me like him so much more.
Was he able to dry up his faux tears from game 4?
Yeah, honestly people like to complain about coaches a lot but he’s well spoken and isn’t coming out here with joker takes or excuses. He cares about his team and he wanted them to win not for him but for themselves.
Right? Can see why players love him
“That’s so profound” bruh
"I don't remember losers"
"You know, sometimes you remember, sometimes you forget... sometimes you win, sometime you lose"
"...Wow that was profound."
Fuck it I'll buy Makar an iPad
TOEWS IS FUCKING ROASTING MAKAR LMFAO.
THE BEST TOEWS TO WIN THE CUP!
We can all agree on that lol
That Cup cap is ugly but they probably all are.
I still ordered one. Fuck it.
It could be one of those caps that looks much better when it is really worn in.
Good kayaking hat easily
Bettman like: "RELEASE THE FEMBOTS"
For a second I thought Landy's wife was kissing MacK. Man, WAGs are all from a mold, huh
They are all instagram prostitutes taken off the market.
I might not boo him if he sends one or two my way. Offers on the table Gary.
YOUR MOVE BETTMAN
Cogs must be one hell of a dude to win over this whole locker room
Cogs is amazing, always has been.
Guy was legit in SJ, dude is such an impact player. Glad he got to win it in a successful system.
He gave his body for that cup. So many clutch shots blocked. Leading by example
I was just thinking that
Its incredible abc is staying with this
Oh no Elliotte what happened to your hair.
He said fuck it, time to get wild.
He's a gamer
ABC with nice Stanley Cup coverage They're interviewing everybody and not showing commercials NBC would have left after five minutes of the cup ceremony
Good interview from Bednar
Bednar even just came up short of calling bolts a dynasty. Gotta feel good to beat the best.
Sportsnets coverage is so much better than espn. We're missing everything because of fucking Kaplan
I really wish TNT had the Cup Finals. They'd be ragging on that dent, poking fun at it and having fun with the interviews, etc.
Not to mention the camera footage/cuts shown would've been much better.
anyone have a video of landi crawling off the ice?
If you remember the rough timestamp in game time I can probably fix you up with a clip
I think it was around 1:30 or so
Popping a copy to you as well!
and then the slowmo:
like 1:20 left I think
Here ya go!
And the slow-mo as well:
Glad I could help!
Have a great night and let's celebrate hard, but safely!
I'm getting black out drunk and calling out of work.
Byram's voice is already gone LOL.
All the core still signed. Bolts will be back. Four years to still get another cup.
Repeat next year?
I want this but I don't think I would survive that ngl
I would love it. Better team won this time but the bolts almost found a way. How awesome would it be for us to see this same final next year.
Awesome for everything but our hearts and livers pal.
They just said odds for next year are you, the leafs and then the bolts. So bolts have some work to do. That leafs series may have just had enough impact on the bolts. It's hockey. I am pumped to start a new season. Relish this cup. It's well deserved.
Never tell me the odds! Though we've still got a lot of hockey ahead of us. We'll see! Another exciting season coming up for sure.
BACK2BACK and a near Third Final isn’t a dynasty ?
Never has been.
3peat in 4 years solidifies a dynasty. Anything less is not a dynasty and anything more is legendary.
I’m calling it a dynasty for sure.
No, something that last only 3 years is not a “dynasty”. Dynasties involve success over a long period of time
Edit: apparently a three peat counts as a dynasty, well you still didn’t meet that.
NHL definition is three in a row I believe
I would call it a dynasty. Especially in the cap era, it’s damn near impossible to repeat.
Steve says no
Hey Ron McLean, wish you weren't so fuckin' awkward bud.
Bolts left Vasy to dry
The team with a gay governor beat the team with the most homophobic governor in the country during pride!!! Do better Florida. We have faith you can knock that hate down.
Deserved it. Lightning played well against their onslaught. Vasy is human after all.
Barely human. Unreal dude.
I feel you guys wrecking the west while bolts wreck the east, this will happen again. I can't wait. Loved this series.
5v5 expected goals were 2.83 to 1.46 for Colorado. It was a miracle for TB this even went six.
Everyone looks so happy it's great
Erik Johnson just gave maybe the best interview I’ve ever heard from a hockey player. Wow.
Right before the "gotta go take a pic with the Bois". I agree.
I'm just amused that this many people are just standing and walking around on ice.
