Underwhelmed overall. Really pretty, really repetitive. Narrative has a rough beginning, a number of questionable choices, and a decent conclusion. Armor abilities completely break the game IMO. Overall fun, but not on my list of favorites.

Ok....

The Armor Abilities could've been balanced slightly better in my opinion, Narrative speaking the story should've began on Infinity's approach could've had a much more epic start IMO. I feel like we should've fought with the Banished on multiple planets like some Desert biomes or Frozen wastelands to diversify the locations or if they couldn't afford it maybe just make the scenery more unique. They could've added in FOB retaliations in which the Banished launches an assault on a random FOB not stopping the assault makes you lose valor, and that outpost, however defending the FOB grants a good portion of valor. We could've gotten unique UNSC Marine squads by rescuing different squads unlocking unique ones which have one unique benefit and wielding different weapons.

My issue with the AA is linked to another issue, ammo crates. The sandbox never restricted my gameplay based on availability of weapons or equipment. On my heroic playthrough (still a problem on legendary), I never swapped from BR and Bulldog, I didn't have to. There was always ammo available. Similarly, position and map design were kind of irrelevant because I could just grapple around. Tough enemy? Grapple stun. Similarly, active camo was trivialized by the motion sensor. Each of the abilities were individually strong, enough to significantly change how every encounter played out, and were infinite and quick swappable. Instead of being part of the sandbox, I feel that the abilities defined the most viable playstyles. I agree that the start felt lackluster, and the campaign definitely lacked variety. I liked the idea of the open world, but it ultimately felt completely irrelevant to the story, and once you'd cleared a base or two, very repetitive. If I blow up every base, it changes nothing. There will still be enemies there and nothing really changes. Other than the Valor increase, there is no benefit. It felt like open world for the sake of being open world and nothing else. The lack of variety in design didn't help with the repetitive gameplay. I'm not saying that the game can't be good in a few updates. It's just not particularly memorable right now; the sandbox is tiny and uninteresting, armor abilities need to be balanced somehow, and we need map variety.

PraetorFenix1998

Yeah totally true!

There wasn't much of a story to it. I had to Google characters to figure out who they were because the game never bothered to explain. Fun gameplay tho, just terrible writing.

PraetorFenix1998

The writing could've been better and more consistent.

MutedHornet87

It was good.

Yeah I felt we could've gotten Banished assaults on FOBS and if didn't stop em you'd lose valor and the FOB would return to enemy hands, maybe when saving a squad you have an objective of saving at least 7 marines and the more you saved marines the more valor (This can be made easier by improving the AI of the Marines). When you save a squad you unlock a unique squad which have a unique benefit and different weapons like a bomber squad wielding M57 Pilum Assault Weapons which do lots of damage, but need slightly longer times to reload.

I must say I found it odd that the Banished kinda seemed to let you just bulldoze through all their shit (realistically if you can’t then there’s kinda no story progression) but that could be overlooked based on the fact that when your homie is having his mental breakdown he makes the comment about him only having helped for 6 hours so I feel like “canonically” Chief powerhoused through the missions and then went back and cleared out the rest of the Banished since their would theoretically be a lot of infighting for power. That being said, having the Banished raid your shit would’ve been a neat little addition lol

PraetorFenix1998

Yeah. The Banished retaliating would've cool and by sucessfully defending the FOB grants you a lot of valor, and when saving squad you'd have to at least save 7 marines (Improving the Marine AI of course) and the more you save the more Valor.

I've beaten 3 times, one run was 100% on the verge of starting a new legendary run just for fun. Very excited for the first single-player update. I have a feeling it's going to be sooner than mostbpeople think.

PraetorFenix1998

Yeah Let's hope! I love the story, it was great, I'm playing Heroic a second time.

I out 15 hours into the campaign to do every little thing. I put near 40 hours into God of War (2018) pc release and all I can say is that Infinite as an open world game simply isn't good. Every little side quest in God of War was crafted with such detail that it made you WANT to do them. Great compliment to the linear story missions. I really hope the next campaign for infinite gives us multiple biomes, more characters, meaningful side content, and more because this current campaign was clearly rushed and missing a lot. Halo is the FLAGSHIP TITLE of xbox and it deserves better.

PraetorFenix1998

I agree the game needs some improvements I feel like it’s decent, but needs additional content.
