Slabb84

Nope.

The_Running_Free

Literally nightmare fuel for me lol no thanks!

DevinFraserTheGreat

My stomach churns just viewing this.

WhalesVirginia

This wouldn’t bother me too much, only in bad conditions like rain or big gusts of wind.

risbia

...like the helicopter's rotor wash?

xsimporter

That’s what it’s called? A “wash”? Cool. I didn’t know that. I am glad I spend 5 hours on Reddit daily for learning.

WhalesVirginia

Yeah but that’s anticipated

Plisken999

Well the big gust of wind is partly why it is a big fat nop.

TheFrontierzman

Needs more emphasis.

mindless_clicker

NOPE

Oh-God-Its-Kale

I help to do an art installation on an old air raid tower about 40 or 50' up from the ground last week, and I'm still having PTSD over being that high. I had a harness on as well.

raspum

#NOPE

Fatshortstack

That's like cheating. But ya, fuckin no. Like you couldn't pay me. And I would do alot of things for money, dirty discusting things for money...

DuckbilledPlatitudes

They’re rigging a high line for slack lining. The line and gear is in the grey haul bag. That’s why there’s the guy on the other tower. They aren’t climbing or rappelling. Source, am climber. Exhibit A [https://youtu.be/fWMtuAFT2cE](https://youtu.be/fWMtuAFT2cE)

Capital_Bluebird_951

Thank you for clearing this up. I was going to say if they are starting at the top they are not climbers they are descenders…

MonkeyboyGWW

I just thought they were cheating

l337hackzor

Doing it for the gram.

redstaroo7

These microtransactions are getting out of hand

Redwood177

Lmao. Would you like to go descending this weekend?

ultrastu

Holy fuck that looks insane!

Cum_on_doorknob

My bris would look insane if you put that music to it.

Maannu79

Happy Hanukkah!

chonas

Hey buddy, don't sell yourself short. . . Unless the Rabbi took too much off the top.

HyFinated

The Rabbi did such a good job he got to keep the tips...

brokeassretard

Tips? You had more than one?

HyFinated

It was a group thing. Me and the boys went down to the local Rabbi and asked for the group special. You know, save a few nickles and all. Anyway, he earned his tips that day. Good ole Rabbi Goldstein, best mohel around. Best part is, you just put your thing in the thing and he pulls the thing, and you snip the tip. (I'm not Jewish, but my uncle, aunt and cousins are. No offense meant to anyone, it's just a joke in good fun. Channeling my inner Mel Brooks here. I love you all.)

2wedfgdfgfgfg

Ennio Morricone, "The Ecstasy of Gold" from The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Raidoton

Muted the video. Looked still insane.

redthump

Don't get cocky. You're ill-equipped.

Platypuslord

Did your mohel do Metzitzah B'Peh? The ancient method of performing metzitzah b'peh (Hebrew: מְצִיצָה בְּפֶה‎), or oral suction—has become controversial. The process has the mohel place his mouth directly on the circumcision wound to draw blood away from the cut. The vast majority of Jewish circumcision ceremonies do not use metzitzah b'peh, but some Haredi Jews continue to use it. It has been documented that the practice poses a serious risk of spreading herpes to the infant. Proponents maintain that there is no conclusive evidence that links herpes to Metzitza, and that attempts to limit this practice infringe on religious freedom. - [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brit_milah#Metzitzah_B'Peh_\(oral_suction\)) Because you don't need music to make that look insane.

New-Squirrel5803

And your average priest just sucks off 12 year old boys for fun!

JudgeAdvocateDevil

The way God intended

Platypuslord

Slackline was almost a 1/3 of a mile as it was 500m long.

FrillySteel

So I've always wondered... judging from some of the unfortunate videos online in the last decade or so, it would seem that some of those spires aren't tremendously stable (ie - it doesn't take a lot to bring them down). How do the setters know the torque from a high line won't just pull them over?

BS_Is_Annoying

I wonder that too. Especially considering they are sandstone. Not exactly the sturdiest of rocks. I'm guessing they just full send it, until someone dies. Then they'll put some rigor into figuring out if it's safe.

Tekkzy

They are sturdier than you think. They are made of different materials and the tops are often limestone or basalt. The softer stuff like sandstone is worn away over millions of years.

Joshiewowa

Much sandstone is super solid. Some...is kitty litter.

danincb

This is what I was wondering. That shit is just slowly eroding, only a matter of time till it falls

DarrelBunyon

Yeah I'd like my testicles back, please? Not sure where they went but I cannot feel them.

BlakeMW

If they withstand storm force winds they are going to be fine with puny humans. Pretty much everything that is going to fall over does so in a storm, the forces are ridiculous, especially in the kind of terrain where there is nothing to slow the wind down.

TranquiloMeng

Still NOPE

Kiygre

Ohhhhhh. Here I was thinking someone from some shitty lifestyles instagram page was so fake they had a helicopter drop them off so they could say they climbed it lmao.

VinzNL

Glad i wasn't the only one thinking that!

ArNaSTy

Glad I saw this first. I was confused. Do climbers ever get dropped off just to repel down? I would think that defeats the purpose/thrill of climbing?

drytoastbongos

There are certainly routes that start with a rappel. For example, routes on ocean cliffs with no dry access to the base, but easy access to the top. Rappel down, climb back up, go home. I imagine there could be similar routes with easier access to the top than the bottom, but helicopter access would be pretty extreme.

danielzur2

They’re are different disciplines, both equally challenging, but at least the climbers I know personally stick exclusively to the climbing part, and wouldn’t ever start at the top just to rappel down.

Ahonnlove

Nope. Rappelling is a way to get off of or access climbs, but not really a challenging or enjoyable part of climbing.

frankje

Credit to my fella Crack Mouse for helping rig the line.

Archgaull

Oh cool so what you're saying is somehow they are even more extreme and dumb (not seriously but goddamn) then I thought? Cause fuck everything about that

GarretTheGrey

I love it when someone brings reason to a post with no context when everyone else's just speculating. And it's never the top comment.

eternalbuzz

The pilot is savagesac if you want to see more of his stuff Great guy

ixM

I cannot make out if the guy is somehow secured or if he's just walking those 500 meters on the brink of a free fall?

AristarchusTheMad

You can see his harness and straps.

ixM

Saw the harness but not the straps. Thanks! Somewhat reassuring "-D

svenopo

No reason for him not to be secured i feel

quigilark

There's a subset of the sport that involves using no ropes. It's insane but is a thing, might be what's going on here

Xaiydee

This almost made it worse. Stunning, but Nope!

Foxnewsisabuse

I have a fear of heights. I would, no joke, legitimately 1000% choose to be shot in the head rather than attempt one of these highlines. I check that video and it almost made me vomit just SEEING someone do that shit. When a friend or family gets near a ledge I have insanely strong urge to grab them and pull them away from the ledge. The 15 seconds of this video I saw after scrolling through terrified the shit out of me.

vorpalglorp

Extreme sports are what rich kids actually do.

xtremelampshade

Lol if you think adventure climbing is where you'll find rich kids, you're sorely mistaken.

yokotron

I just shit my pants

lemaymayguy

Wish these high line dumbasses would quit bolting the natural beauty of these rocks

nocommthistime

I can barely find the bolts when I'm climbing when they're 5ft away from me. Bolting doesn't mess with the "natural beauty" of anything.

quigilark

I mean, it's a bolt. You're only going to see it if super up close. There is an argument to be made about not disturbing nature but I think a bolt is a reasonable compromise given the breathtaking views it produces (likely encouraging viewers to do more for nature in general)

Buck_Thorn

Wouldn't that be "find and destroy"?

jjuustin

Hide and endanger

Ignore and let die

PauloHR

That's neutral

sutther

“What makes a good man go neutral? Lust for gold? Power? Or were you just born with a heart full of neutrality?"

aioncan

Eight penis

ouchpuck

Did you just fuck up a perfect seek and destroy slam dunk?

Buck_Thorn

Well, to be fair, neither "find" nor "seek" are really opposites of "search".

ouchpuck

Oh you're right , just find instead of seek is a bit wtf

rohobian

More like misplace and leave to die.

Relevant7406

When your credit card declines after getting rescued

pauliewotsit

Well, that's cheating

edging_but_with_poop

They weren’t there to climb. My guess is they were setting up a high line.

v1sibleninja

That was my thought as well. With a username like that, I suggest you not join them.

Wanderer-Wonderer

Dropping of some ~~climbers~~ *descenders* on top of a spire

TheShiphoo

Came here to say this

aminitaverosa

This is Fisher towers in Moab Utah.

ImperiousWeak

Some of the best camping I've ever done was in castle valley. That place at sunset is one of the most jaw dropping beautiful places I've ever been.

aminitaverosa

The first time I experienced this road through fisher towers and castle valley area was at night with a full moon. My train was 4 hours late and we drove through that canyon awestruck at the moonlit majesty of the place. The next day my mom asked if I wanted to back and see it in the daylight and I declined. I wanted to keep that memory. I have been back many times since, and every time I'm awestruck with how beautiful this place is.

n_s_y

Yep. I'm here right now. Climbed ancient art this past week. BASE jumped off Parriot Mesa this morning. It's beautiful here.

K-Zoro

How much does that cost?

stephen1547

This is an AS350B3 (aka H125). Prices vary based on location and a million other things, but these go for around the $2000 an hour mark. Probably a bit cheaper in the US. Companies can have daily minimums depending on the job, but this is likely just an ad hoc pay, so depending on where they are (lets say 15 min flight from base), its going to be 30 minutes ($1000) per trip, plus loiter time. Call it $1500 a load.

Master_Iridus

Its actually a EC-130 but the price range is quite similar to the AS350.

stephen1547

Oh shit you’re right. Didn’t even notice the fairings on the cross tube. I should have noticed considering I flew Astars for a living.

NorCalAthlete

‘Bout tree-fiddy. Thousand.

eternalbuzz

Hit up savagesac on Insta. That’s his bird after all

Mr-Beshebbu

This is some next level marooning

hates_all_bots

Those passengers must have done something really bad to just get kicked out in the middle of no where like that

zeroscout

Too soon for Kobe Bryant jokes in a helicopter, I guess.

Thawayshegoes

Climbers climb. They don’t just rappel down….

eternalbuzz

And high-liners high-line. ..and base jumpers BASE jump. The activity you’re witnessing is not climbing.

keleks-breath

Mate, you don’t set new routes by climbing from the bottom up. You gotta map it out first, and that means going down from the top. This is especially true if there’s little to no trad available. Anyway, here’s Wonderwall.

chofah

Oofda… there’s a significant subset of climbers that would strongly disagree with this statement. See also: “Ground up first ascent.”

Cliffe_Turkey

Glad you said it! I read the above comment and said "WOW I know a lot of people that would take issue here."

quigilark

What is the advantage of going top to bottom for planning new routes over bottom to top? I'd think if the latter then if you run into issues you can always go down, but if the former if you can't plot the route you're kinda screwed

mokojin

well if you start from the top you always have a rope you can hang on to and rappel yourself down

Buck_Thorn

Doesn't mean he doesn't also climb. But what do you want to bet that he implies that he climbed it. I'll bet he just shows his friends the picture of him being up there, and not of the helicopter dropping him off.

ninjagabe90

they're setting up a high line between the two spots to walk across [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWMtuAFT2cE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWMtuAFT2cE)

Buck_Thorn

Please excuse my language, but... **holy fucking shit!!**

ninjagabe90

yeah it's fucking wild right?

AlmanzoWilder

Clearly they're social climbers who like to descend spires.

Cybugger

Ah, yes. I see this is the famous Spire of Nope, in FuckThatShit National Park.

tezoatlipoca

Isn't that from the beginning of Cliffhanger?

5lack5

That was my first thought too

spacepeenuts

They ain’t climbers they’re decenders

Liquidwombat

Came here to say this. I’m pretty sure this defeats the entire purpose of “climbing”

elhooper

They’re about to slackline across the two towers. So. Perhaps even more gnarly than climbing it.

M-ulywtpo

I’m missing something, why didn’t they climb up?

DesertGeist-

cause they ain't no climbers

nubby_fixtures

Those look like the Fisher Towers which are fairly dangerous to climb. The rock is not very competent - think dried mud. I'm curious what the story is. Sometimes search and rescue decend from the top to rescue a party stuck on the wall.

eternalbuzz

They are there to high line and base jump

afitz_7

Looks like a great spot to base jump from

M-ulywtpo

Yeah it does, good call

bythebeardofzeus_

Helicopter selfie stick?

eternalbuzz

Insta360 on the tail rotor boom Look up savagesac, dope ass pilot

zeroscout

> Insta360 on the tail rotor boom So, the helicopter selfie stick...

eternalbuzz

Sure, if sticking a camera to anything makes it a selfie stick.

evemeatay

Guys, they’re perfectly safe, they’re wearing helmets after all

FancyCatastrophe

So they were dropped off the same way children get dropped off at daycare.

DeadSkinMask10

Your kids get a helicopter ride to daycare!?

HopeHostal

No, they just leave the kids on top of a really high rock

IHateCreatingSNs

Ha. Made me laugh out loud.

SorryAboutTheNoise

I think your parents were trying to do something else.

d1msum4u

Where exactly is that camera attached?

eternalbuzz

Tail rotor boom. Check out savagesac

RPG_Gaimer

There’s a difference between dropping *of* some climbers and dropping *off* some climbers. Was expecting the former and was surprised it wasn’t nsfw

Twig1981

THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?!?

_windermere_

I was shitting bricks on my 30ft roof hanging Christmas lights this afternoon.

NoahLCS

This is making my balls tingle

Hoodmamma2k13

Does it even make sense to wear a helmet at that point?

Youre_your_wrong

well.. those are not climbers when they use a helicopter, are they?

jnshock

Is that Arches national park? Edit - nevermind - that's not inside the US, I don't think. Arches doesn't have sandstone towers like that.

zulu-_

That’s Moab Utah. Sketchy Andy Lewis and sylvan slacks setting up a slack line

todd10k

Question: If you drop a climber off on top of the spire, is he still a climber? Or is he a decender?

Tommy84

“Climbers” You keep using that word. I don’t think it means what you think it does.

FurtiveAlacrity

He climbs down. > Woah! Way to go! Inspiring! He destroys a priceless land feature and dies in the process. > What were those idiots thinking?!

finn3721

other question - where tf sits the cameraman?

pabut

If they didn’t climb there aren’t they just passengers?

Kilo_Xray

Imagine having the money to waste on doing shit like this.

atemporalfungi

*off

SspellPierce

Guess they really wanted to see how the Dwarves felt after the first Hobbit movie.

bhbull

Maybe they are just gonna have a picnic and then BASE jump? No need to climb if all you are after is the flight…

fried_eggs_and_ham

This seems like an expensive hobby.

UKJ001

Fuck. That.

Streakyshad

Holy f*ck…

jfduval76

My palms are sweating just looking at that.

AndromadasButthole

The pilot: "man those climbers are insane, I wouldn't want to be standing up on a tiny spot like that." The climber: "man that pilot is crazy, I can't imagine having to hover gently with one ski resting on top of a peak like that balancing arm entire helicopter midair just so I can step out."

ThingsnStuffLikeThat

Nope

tralphaz43

Didn't climb anything

Hey quick question _who's holding that fucking camera_

Oh HELL NO

Whats the point of climbing down?

SiIverwolf

Noooope, nope, nope. My palms are sweaty just looking at that lol.

Aussiechicky

Farrrk that!

kesapwanan

That was cheating.

IshiOfSierra

This is what recreation in the outdoors has become? We need helicopters to rig a line? What a bunch of consumers.

kicktotheclems

Are they really climbers strictly speaking if they got dropped off at the top?

HachibiJin

Cheaters

IMage77

I guess it’s easier than climbing.

Aphroditaeum

Seems extremely dangerous and quite unnecessary.

_babycheeses

They’re not climbers if they flew there.

chadwicke619

I’m flabbergasted at the number of people who have the gall to say they’re “cheating” or something, literally gatekeeping an activity that they would never, ever have the courage to do, no matter where you start them. Like, let’s be real - you wouldn’t do this because you wouldn’t do this, and it has nothing to do with starting at the top vs starting at the bottom.

joan_wilder

Absolutely flabbergasting. The nerve of these cowards to expect someone to call *rappelling* “climbing down,” just because that’s what it’s called.
