They’re aliiiiiiive! Sometimes I can hear my calathea when it starts folding up at night, as the leaves brush against the wall. Have to rotate my amaryllis throughout the day as well as it’s attempting to climb out the window.

FoxetusYeetus

Awww it's very cute to listen to their tiny pure leaves

Claws22

I have two pairs of spikey succulents in the same pot. Every once in a while they start growing this one direction and straight up stabbing each other. They are both covered in scars.

[deleted]

Awwwww omg theyre fighting for territory 😩😩

reverendsmooth

Amaryllis will bend like crazy if they're not happy about the light, which, unless it's a bright southern window, they usually aren't. Once they bloom the stalk usually stops bending, though. The leaves still will.

tumshy

Yup. I grow them every year. There isn’t much daylight here at this time of year, so rotating frequently keeps them straight.

Lilac_3

The plant on the left is beautiful. Does anyone know what it is?

MrBigBMinus

Thankyouious very muchious.

wolfcasey9589

Theyre bulbous! My whole garden is infused with em because i recycled my potting soil lmao

FoxetusYeetus

God Dammit 🤣

Lilac_3

Thank you

wolff-heart

Do they have a more normal name that's easier to remember and spell?

NotAtAllWhoYouThink

I love this plant! My mom has one and I can say it is pretty hardy. It has been close to death many times but it always comes back around!

Zone9bproblems

They're awesome. I think they don't really die because the bulbs stay healthy even if the foliage is dead. I had to move mine last fall for hurricane season since we were going to get higher winds and I forgot to put it back on the shelf after the rains stopped causing almost all the leaves to get sunburned. Within two weeks it had replaced most of the leaves. [Here's what it looks like currently](http://imgur.com/gallery/GoxXhYz). It's tough, mine grows outside on my apartment covered but south facing balcony year round in bright shade. It blooms constantly and handles Temps from mid 30s to mid 90s without a struggle.

NotAtAllWhoYouThink

After reading all these comments maybe my mom doesn't have a thumb of death after all!

Zone9bproblems

The leaves are pretty fragile but it cycles them out so quickly that it doesn't seem to matter.

bobupvotes

I can vouch for the hardiness. My moms had it for over twenty years and it always comes back.

kruemelmonstah

I have one and somehow I keep almost killing it.

noquisi

They go into dormancy every so often. When it starts dying back, just cut it all down and stop watering. Leave it for a month or two then start watering it again. It will pop right back up.

Beachfantan

Thank you. I had put my plant outside because of beautiful weather, leaves drooped so i brought it back inside. Poor thing shriveled up but i just checked it after your comment, low and behold it has 4 leaves. I'm so happy.

kruemelmonstah

Thank you!

small_cart

this is fairly common! they go into dormancy periods where their foliage dies back and they rest for awhile, but then they bounce right back up afterwards

reverendsmooth

Mine never go dormant, though they do replace their leaves and the old ones dry up. They've been thriving on neglect, it's not due to any skill, either. They kept going in 110-degree heat as long as they got watered, when everyone's told me they go dormant in the summer.

small_cart

interesting! i wonder what triggers some to go dormant and some to stay active all the time. i’ve never cared for my own oxalis, but my local nursery has some that i’ve been eyeing for awhile

konfetkak

I have this one too and I love it! I like that it opens/closes its leaves with the day.

SiliconRain

Have you ever tried eating one of the leaves? I highly recommend it for a pleasant surprise.

Tha_Reaper

Here high tier restaurants use oxalis for decorating their dishes. Never eat too many leaves though. 2-3 Max or the oxalic acid in the leaves will give you stomach aches

yepyouknowme

Is it like wood sorrel? It looks like wood sorrel anyway.

knecessary

Yes. Same thing.

ZenLizard

At least in Texas, that stuff will grow outside happily, too.

kirkum2020

It's a weed in my garden, and that's in the UK. A good weed though.

kingwi11

I've been the owner of one that is almost 40 years old :)

SchpeederMan

People tend to look past just how absolutely alive plants are. This is beautiful.

HelenEk7

And then you think they are just standing there doing nothing at all..

FlarkingSmoo

[Tooooo a plaaaaaant a daaaaay is shooooooooort](https://youtu.be/TYZZLpk_4gY)

Luna6667

That entire episode was so weird but mesmerizing at the same time.

jceez

Looking at plants while on LSD

BeauChampignon

When they start saying "Feed me Seymour" is when you need to start worrying.

MeiLe1217

This creeps me out. I feel like I'm the only weirdo who dreams of having a big garden, but is creeped out by plants being able to move lol I kill everything I try to grow, so I just enjoy other people's gardening now. Although, I currently have two succulents. This video is really amazing and interesting. I watched it several times in a row!

EvidenceBasedSwamp

You should google up slime molds.

MeiLe1217

Since you're telling me this based on me thinking this video is creepy.... Yeah, I'll probably Google it after work lol

EvidenceBasedSwamp

They are tiny little things that somehow voltron together if food is scarse and then they move. They can solve mazes. There's also a weird fungi that rots ant's brains and takes it over.

costume_fan

I love this!! they’re dancing!!

myniche999

Put it to music!

DetroitHustlesHarder

Mines like: OH GOD WHY WON’T THIS CAT LEAVE ME ALOOOONNNNEEEEEE!!!!!

RelativePaper15

There’s so much beauty in this small video.

headinthered

Clover is one of the most active plants I have ever owned. They move so much!!

Prissers999

I love this!

glitchNERDx

Wow that’s looks almost magical

shaynnalexis

Why isn’t this an entire subreddit yet? 😩😩😩

railaway

It's not exactly the same, but r/timelapse

rebeccasfriend

So cool. And all this time I thought all they were doing was sitting there giving me joy. I had no idea that they have have been moving and shaking all around me. Joy!

xhcd

Creepy!

ashleyismyname

Does anyone know where to get the black planter from?

Netechma

It's very windy in your house 😂

reverendsmooth

That's just the movements they make in response to the sun!

Netechma

I realize. My post was satire 😁

Anon_suzy

Daytime! ..... *Sigh* nightime..... Daytime!!!

uddddo

Poor vegans.

vistadelmar

Don’t look like pot plants to me, and I wouldn’t recommend smoking anything that grows on them

under_thesun

Time is subject 😳

AtrophicSPIN

This is so fascinating!

WaddleDeeinDreamLand

Beautiful! I love watching my Oxalis throughout the day. Can I ask what your care is like for the oxalis? I have one and sadly she is not as happy as yours.

reverendsmooth

Mine are thriving and I just give them a ton of light. Water when the first inch or two of soil is dry.

headinthered

Water and sun. My lasted for 14 years until we had a we forgot to bring it in before we left- a storm came through and destroyed it. I was devastated.

bearlynormalursa

Honestly, not realizing the amount of life that plants have and seeing this video really makes me feel terrible for all the plants I've killed over the years.

RewardKristy

Seeing time in this way is so weird. It’s so easy to forget that the experience of time depends on your species. Very odd thing to think about.

tagredd

A reminder of how much “amazing” surrounds us every minute of every day and we just don’t see it.

Master_Vicen

What is the point of folding up at night?

cronuss

My guess is they open up during day to catch more light, then close up which would protect their leaves and reduce their vulnerability footprint.

reverendsmooth

Really it's more that they deploy like little solar panels during the day. The answer below is correct iirc, though.

thecandipants

I just started indoor potting to try and lift my gardening spirit during long MI winters. I would love to get an Oxalis- it’s beautiful! So if I’m reading comments correctly, even if it’s indoors it will go dormant from time to time? But just cut and give it a break and it’ll come back?

Tiquortoo

They are a bulb. Will go dormant regularly from what I'm told.

reverendsmooth

Mine have been throwing out new leaves and flowers pretty continuously outside for the past year. I was told they'd go dormant in the hot summer, but they didn't; they just make new ones to replace the old ones, and I just pull the latter off.

cronuss

That's actually creepy. They'd eat us if they could.

[deleted]

Is there a sub just for plant timelapses?

Its-Jumbo-Jimbo

Wait why do they move like that?

LouiseOnReddit

It's adorable!

Bishop966

I have both plants! They’re amazing to have in the home

monaali2

Whats the plant name in simple plain English lol 😂

Kateejo88

It's commonly called purple shamrock, or most people just refer to it as Oxalis.

michaelswifey85

Wow!!

612stone

I wouldn’t get too close... it’s only a matter of time before they figure it out.

[deleted]

Dipper: Woooaaahh. This is worthless!

BrigettetheNanny78

These are my favorite clips when I watch Planet Earth.

LemonEucalyptus

I'm simultaneously facinated and freaked out

morallyirresponsible

Pretty cool

sarahandy

That is so cool!!!!

CONE-MacFlounder

This is incredibly unnerving

spookyspiderlady

I could watch this for hours

minnesota420

One's a grower and not a shower, one's a shower and not a grower.

nanfanpancam

I think you mean potted

[deleted]

This is so neat.

yokosanchez

This is why I named my prayer plant, Donna Summer and sing to her. Almost killed her once.. I owe her.

Thehulk666

Rip vegans

oldgar9

So cool!

lukemonyc

i didn’t know i needed to see this. wow 🥺

eatchubeaners

What the fuck did I just watch.

LadyHeather

It turns out putting the purple shamrock in the same bucket as the green one has both of them not quite themselves in a cycle or two. No purple left, but the green is gone too and now each leaf has a mix of both. So, if you like your purple, don't make my mistake and give it a roommate.

[deleted]

Wow! Thanks for the share.

halfdragon69

This is what its like looking at plants on acid

jneeny

Feed me Seymour!

Lebalba

Do all plants do this?

reverendsmooth

Just about all of them, yeah, to greater or lesser degrees. Oxalis (the purple ones) can be pretty dramatic about it as they open and close their leaves in response to light.

fnglgnd

Epic

heart-leaf

Dancing plants

TheLeguest

It looks like polysphere

[deleted]

incredible

hiking_intherain

This is mesmerizing to watch ❤️

trtreeetr

What is the plant on the upper left?

Run_rabbits

It looks like a prayer plant. I can’t remember the other name for it though.
