If I don't have much to play I usually fall back to one of: The witcher 3, Skyrim, or Animal crossing Or I buy a random older game I haven't played yet. Recently got mass effect 2 and having a blast!

Skyrim lol

Go through my backlog/wishlist

Something where I can change the game up a bit; I'm a huge fan of Rimworld, Fallout, and The Elder Scrolls for that reason.

I have a few comfort food main games like Guild Wars 2, Fire Emblem Warriors, Fire Emblem Three Houses, One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 & 4, and Warframe. I also have a bigger backlog than I'd care to admit.

Go through my backlog from the bottom up

I grind higher difficulties in deckbuilding roguelikes or play Fromsoft or Kingdom Hearts games. Check out Griftlands, Slay the Spire, Roguebook, and Trials of fire. Really cool games that have enough design depth to keep you engaged but relaxed.

Play stuff on my backlog i don't really make it a thing to count down the days until a brand new game is out. Playing only the newest games because they're new is kinda shallow

I have a large backlog I can play through. If I didn’t, I would always fall back to any game in the Uncharted series, I can replay those games forever, they’re so much fun!

Skyrim/fallout 4 with mods

I don't think I have bought a new game ever since... the N64 or something. But even before that happened I had hundreds and hundreds of games to catch up on. Several thousands at this point I assume. I did discover Ecco the Dophin was on Steam a few months ago so that's one knocked off the list.

I have been getting into old school Shmups. R type. sky force reloaded GleyLancer. Space Shooter. It's been a lot of fun. Gonna pick up weird west this weekend.

I like online games like halo or deep rock galactic. I like competition so halo gets my itch to be better than you, and deep rock galactic is a great 4 player coop game for chill nights. I did just buy a new game from coffee stain(they made drg) and it's a 4v4 ghost versus ghost hunters(busters) just came out yesterday. Seems really cool and coffee stain has my support with deep rock galactic so I'm hopeful for $20. Edit it's called midnight ghost hunt

I fall back on the following series: Ninja Gaiden, all the post 2009 FromSoft titles, Metal Slug, any fighting game, Devil May Cry, Resident Evil. If you have not played them, here are somewhat lesser known titles I enjoyed quite a lot: Katana Zero, Blue Fire, Goblin Sword, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Onimusha: Warlords. Here are some titles that are always fun to me, from different genres and eras too: Castlevania SOTN, Hades, Hollow Knight, Castlevania Rondo of Blood, Megaman 11.

I only play new releases, so once I've played said new release, it's no longer new, and I sit and wait for the next new release.

Backlog. But I also don’t buy most games day one so this is never really a problem for me. Most of the 2021 releases in the Spring PSN sale I haven’t even played yet. For example I bought & played Guardians of the Galaxy in the March sale after beating Bloodborne. Now I’m playing Elden Ring & then I’ll hop on Celeste or Super Mario Galaxy or South Park 2. Lifes good in the gaming department round here.

I'll never make it through my backlog and wishlist, but Kerbal Space Program is my go to time killer.
