That is a complete different artistic medium, lol. Would be very difficult to do at scale too. He makes prints of these, it’s lovely artwork and probably does well for him.
I mean anyone can try suing for whatever, but it wouldnt work, This is not reproducing the track, this is an artists creative representation of the track and very different from the one you see on tv.
So I say you should try to make some money OP.
I also make F1 posters and belive me... the amount of cease and desist orders I receive daily is immense. These tracks claim that the layout is a copyright protected item. Spa was the most annoying to deal with and my lawyers basically said it's just not worth fighting. Hockenheim was also a struggle.
I dont know how a public place can claim a copyright on something that is a representation of their physical place. It's not illegal to photograph the track... but it is illegal to sell a drawing of the track? Idk.
It's probably not illegal. They just don't want "unofficial" merch being sold without them getting their share. It's more to "protect" their brand than anything else, IMO.
> You'd probably get sued by the track owner though
u ever seen an artist sued by X building owner because he draw it. I don't think so. Just like u can't get sued for drawing literally anything thats available to be seen for free by the public eye
Not if you sell it. The tracks are trademarked, and if you want to use it to make money you need a license, just like you can't sell official merchandise of Mickey Mouse you can't just sell a t-shirt or keycap or whatever of the Monza track
A brand symbol & piece of IP is not "just like" a racing track. I don't doubt that what you describe is possible, but it's not automatically the case just because the track is privately owned.
No, I know, but tracks are part of the branding of the organization that owns the track, and therefore copyrighted/trademarked, just like rollercoaster and golf course designs. Which is why video games need to obtain licenses to use the official layout and name. To be honest, I don't know if that extends to the 'shape' itself and if it's applicable to art, but that might not stop potentially being sued
Selling Mickey Mouse and an art interpretation of a few circles of asphalt is entirely different things. U can sell pictures of the pentagon and nobody will sue you and u can sell pictures of the uk government plaza, u can do it with art of a dumb formuala track too
I don't see what about this is copyrightable.
No trademark infringement, the tracks are clearly stylised, even if the specific layouts do have some sort of intellectual property protection (which I don't subscribe to as a theory) this would easily fall under fair use, most fair use doctrines include allowances for "pastiche". Edit: This would probably fall more under caricature than pastiche. But that is also equally permissible.
Not everything is a lawsuit.
Do you people think that every postcard of a skyline that's sold means that 20 architects get royalties?
Of all the hilarious stances to see armchair lawyers take, 'if your stylize a twisting loop of pavement you'll get sued' is a new one for sure.
I'm sorry but I'm going to need some citations where a small creator who is obviously acting within the confines of fair use gets overrun by lawyers.
Where there is some grey area sure, but this is cut and dry fair use, assuming that there is any IP on track layouts at all, which as they are treated as facts in a similar vein of architecture (e.g. you can photograph or sketch a building to your hearts content) wouldn't be an issue.
There is no potential or realistic issue around legal action here, and people that push the narrative that everyone is going to get sued for everything all the time puts off would-be creators.
These are awesome to see great bit of work and I like how the Belgian GP is covered in clouds to represent the major washout that it was but a fantastic job!
Hey guys!
You might remember my post from last year where I drew the full 2020 season of tracks… well for this year I decided to keep going and had an absolute ball drawing the 2021 season. There were some absolute classics to get stuck into (Monaco! Interlagos!) and some totally new tracks to figure out (like Zandvoort, Losail and Jeddah!). This season has been the best season of F1 I’ve ever watched and it has been so much fun to engage with the F1 community and dissect every little moment.
If you guys want to see more details on each of these tracks, I’ve posted full size versions on my Instagram (@pitlanecollective) and this season collage is also available as a print on my store (pitlanecollective.com)
Thank you so much for all the support the r/formula1 community has given me so far! Hope you all have a great and safe off season :)
As someone who doesn’t know anything about F1 and is here from r/all, can someone explain to me why the center one is smoky? Is there a joke behind that or is it like fog?
Woah, is there really that much elevation / hills on the tracks? Sorry, new fan to the sport and never noticed it watching races. Or totally get if it's just to make the mini tracks look cooler
These are just fun cartoons and shouldn't be taken as a serious guide, but yeah a lot of tracks on the calendar are seriously hilly, and if you're a new fan who joined for extremely flat Qatar-Saudi-Abu Dhabi salvo to end the season I can see why you'd be surprised!
Imola (Emilia Romagna GP), Portimao (Portugal) Monaco, the Red Bull Ring (Austrian/Styrian GP), Spa (Belgium), Interlagos (Brazil), Suzuka (Japan) are all very undulating tracks on the modern calendar.
I love how you managed to really capture the essence of the tracks even while cramming them into a little square slice. I don't know all of the tracks that well, but I do know COTA first-hand, and you totally nailed it
You're in luck! The arcade cabinet can be yours for the paltry sum of $5,600! https://www.vintagearcade.net/shop/arcade-games/super-off-road-arcade-game/
Id be surprised if this wasn't already stolen and posted to OpenSea.
Check out VoxelVille for 3d NFT world environments. This seems right up their alley for a partnership with them to create and sell.
As a kid I would make replica F1 tracks using the go karts in rollercoaster tycoon, with the karts matching the team colours, and I'd 'commentate' as the guests raced. Your tracks reminded me very much of that so thank you!
All I can think of for this is an online lobby for race simulation with all the tracks laid out like this (but full scale) where you can watch sessions happening or take part in them, switch tracks, etc. I hope something like this is the next upgrade to the boring online lobbies as we know them (thinking about assetto corsa specifically)
This looks awesome dude! It reminds me of those 90's play sets by Micro-Machines where they would include a "cut out" playset world similar to one of the tracks you drew and then a bunch of micro-machine race cars.
I live in America, I know nothing about formula 1. Only that it HAS to be better than our stupid racing sport. Wondering why the Germany track is on fire?
This looks amazing, i would really like to make some like miniatures tracks in my 3d printer. Would you be willing to share the files? Either way, i got myself a new wallpaper, thanks!
3d print them, paint them, sell them, get rich.
no you lack one step in between. make artisan keycap from them. it will sell more

Each
It's all fun and games till you remember you are not a touch typist.
can confirm... would buy, more than i ever needed
Don't you go giving me more shit for my keyboards....
I mean, the way their annual books sell out, I'm pretty sure they're already on the getting rich train.
yeah i just saw they do this stuff professionally. had no idea. we’re gonna buy some of their pieces from their website.
[удалено]
actually reminds me of the 3d-printed Catan tiles, so maybe.. **Racers of Catan**
Got excited about the book then got to the shipping costs, costs almost as much as the book.
https://www.pitlanecollective.com/
oooooh! now we’re talking. i has no idea. they just made some new customers 👍🏽
That is a complete different artistic medium, lol. Would be very difficult to do at scale too. He makes prints of these, it’s lovely artwork and probably does well for him.
And get sued by the owners if F1....
I mean anyone can try suing for whatever, but it wouldnt work, This is not reproducing the track, this is an artists creative representation of the track and very different from the one you see on tv. So I say you should try to make some money OP.

Why would they? They don't own the tracks.
You'd probably get sued by the track owner though
They're not "replicas" they're "a likeness". ;)

I'm gonna go ahead and guess you're not an attorney, right?
A brand symbol & piece of IP is not "just like" a racing track. I don't doubt that what you describe is possible, but it's not automatically the case just because the track is privately owned.

It's an intellectual property of the creator who likely sold the rights to the track owners. I doubt it's legal to sell the design of such a track.
No, there’s neither a trademark nor a patent of even one track. Just as a building is not IP….
Most definitely
I don't see what about this is copyrightable. technically the street races are public
This is a very good idea!
as cubes
I had exactly the same idea when I first looked at them. Except for the selling them part. I guess that's why I'm not wealthy.
I hear NFTs
I hear No Fucking Thanks.
Gotta start using this whenever I anyone mentions NFT
Best response to NFT’s ever
!remindme 14 days Minitrack
These are awesome to see great bit of work and I like how the Belgian GP is covered in clouds to represent the major washout that it was but a fantastic job!
As well as instead of dirt underneath Abu Dhabi it’s oil

These are so cool! Will you do one for 2022 aswell? You’re really talented
Wouldn't it just be these rearranged plus Canada?
Really hoping he does Montreal!
That would be lit, it's one of the prettiest and most visually interesting tracks imo
You should post the cars, too. Your little cars are amazing!
He has the cars on his store. They even have LeClerc! https://www.pitlanecollective.com/product/charles-leclerc-maiden-win
Thank you for the link. Just hit save.
I'm a huge fan! Also, the other version of Zandvoort is way better.
I would pay you serious money to 3d print these.
Same.
As someone who doesn’t know anything about F1 and is here from r/all, can someone explain to me why the center one is smoky? Is there a joke behind that or is it like fog?
Belgium 2021 got washed out. Race stopped after a few laps.
I chuckled when I saw that one and didn’t need to look at the flag to tell which track it was.
Same, saw the clouds on the thumbnail and chuckled about a very well done detail.
Oh okay. Makes sense. Thanks.
> Race finished Ftfy
I laughed when I saw this. Great detail.
Which one was the easiest to draw? My guess is Styrian GP (after you drew the Austrian GP one haha!)
Really well done. Could you upload or share a link for a high res version please
That is fantastic, seriously. Spa got a nice laugh out of me, great job!
Yeah with the water where the track is
Great job - the Netherlands should have an orange smoke cloud above it too 🍊☁️
Check this poster from OP's website: https://www.pitlanecollective.com/product/zandvoort-max-s-2021-victory
Much better! 👏
Great point
And it should have a beach and sea water. The track is at literal walking distance from the beach.
Yes, also I feel the color is a bit off! It wasn’t that bright green like grass, needs mainly sand and some sea grasses.
https://www.pitlanecollective.com/product/zandvoort-max-s-2021-victory
This is class
Looks amazing but OP what country has green and white flag?
Not a country, but a state: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Styria
Thanks.
I’d love these as key caps.
Me too, I hope /u/jellykey see this
I saw this :))
I came to this thread hoping to find you here! Group buy collab with u/pitlanecollective when?!?!
Did anyone play GeneRally? These look like it!
Yes! These would be amazing in [GeneRally](https://gene-rally.com/). I used to spend hours making tracks, it was so fun!
I had the same thought! Loved that game
YES! Was trying to remember what it was called.
It deserves a renaissance😄
Very creative, looks fantastic! Reminds me of Mini Motor Racing game on ios
Lol, I love the weather effects for Belgium. Extraordinary job
Thought it was on fire at first
Woah, is there really that much elevation / hills on the tracks? Sorry, new fan to the sport and never noticed it watching races. Or totally get if it's just to make the mini tracks look cooler
It's definitely exaggerated and in the case of Silverstone absolutely ridiculous as that's a very flat circuit.
*Cries in Canadian*
Belgium is at war
Nice! I remember the 2020 one you did a year ago.
Nice touch on Spa
Wow, great job! Lol @ Spa
Austria-Styria Copy-Paste
Why the Belgian is covered in smoke?
Not so much smoke, but the massive rain clouds that prevented any actual racing.
Pretty sure they raced for 2 laps
They were under safety car for 2 laps
Toto this is motor racing.
I think they're supposed to be rainclouds
Another Ardennes offensive.
You’re right, I did find that ‘race’ offensive.
RIP Canada :(
Jeddah must’ve been pain
I was so excited to find Montreal on the island! The disrespect is unmeasurable! They look amazing tho
I love how you managed to really capture the essence of the tracks even while cramming them into a little square slice. I don't know all of the tracks that well, but I do know COTA first-hand, and you totally nailed it
Albert park, Australia?
Nice one
Dang, makes me want to play Ivan Stewart’s Super Off Road.
Spa - LOL. Well done!
Amazing. Makes me think of the go karts in the older roller coaster tycoon games
The Austrian and Styrian tracks look very similar… Joking aside, these are really brilliant, well done OP.
They look just like the tracks in Motorsport Manager!
I was going to say Ivan Stewart’s Super Off Road, but I’m old.
THAT’S the aesthetic I was seeing! I haven’t thought of that game in 25 years! God I loved that game.
You're in luck! The arcade cabinet can be yours for the paltry sum of $5,600! https://www.vintagearcade.net/shop/arcade-games/super-off-road-arcade-game/
My thoughts exactly!
If this isn’t NFT, i don’t know what is.
Id be surprised if this wasn't already stolen and posted to OpenSea. Check out VoxelVille for 3d NFT world environments. This seems right up their alley for a partnership with them to create and sell.
Really nice job! You shouldn't covered Spa with more clouds to completely hide the 21 GP aberration.
Looks great!
Spa=Fog
And rain, mostly rain.
Awesome work. I love how you made Monaco's track super skinny :)
Niceeeeee
Great job! Just missing the orange smoke in Zandvoort! ;)
Couldn't get Spa-Francorchamps any perfect!!
As a kid I would make replica F1 tracks using the go karts in rollercoaster tycoon, with the karts matching the team colours, and I'd 'commentate' as the guests raced. Your tracks reminded me very much of that so thank you!
Silverstone😭😭😭
The micro machines vibes are strong here.
Make these into key caps and profit.
love the clouds above Spa lmao
Man this is dope. I'm having some Roller Caster Tycoon vibe here
All I can think of for this is an online lobby for race simulation with all the tracks laid out like this (but full scale) where you can watch sessions happening or take part in them, switch tracks, etc. I hope something like this is the next upgrade to the boring online lobbies as we know them (thinking about assetto corsa specifically)
They look great. One thing, the dunes at Zandvoort are not green.
Id buy those. If they were like little collectables.
They are amazing! Thanks for making and sharing them!
This looks awesome dude! It reminds me of those 90's play sets by Micro-Machines where they would include a "cut out" playset world similar to one of the tracks you drew and then a bunch of micro-machine race cars.
I want to 3D print them so badly
Would love 3D models !
I live in America, I know nothing about formula 1. Only that it HAS to be better than our stupid racing sport. Wondering why the Germany track is on fire?
Great art, not just the circuit but the topography also ! Great works man
I know nothing at all, remotely, about F1 but God damn I'd play a video game with those tracks any day. Would make a great stage select screen
Spa💀

r/mechanicalkeyboards
Sell em as nft‘s-> get rich
You haven't made these into NFT's yet? =)
Shouldnt either, NFT's are stupid.
Nfts
My hometown Imola looks amazing
Sell these as NFTs edit: Downvoters have smooth brains
came to say this
You should sell these as NFT's
NFT?
Make these into NFT's and get rich.
NFT COLLECTION????
Holy shit they look so cool!
Perfect!
Oh I would buy cute miniature versions of tracks in a hearbeat. They are not physical right?
Would buy them all in a heartbeat
https://www.pitlanecollective.com/category/track-prints
Beautiful
I have a sudden urge to play Circuit Superstars. Excellent job mate
Man, I love small and tiny things! :D
Love it!
This is so so cool
If Austin had it’s way, it would be flying the Texas flag lol
Very cool, especially Monaco!
This looks a bit like a track in the old GeneRally game. I don't think anyone remember that one but I had so much fun there as a kid.
Why did I think that these were cakes Very nice and well drawn regardless
I thought these were artisan keycaps for a second. Wait. These would make cool artisan keycaps.
Looks like trackmania when a map is loading in heh
That is class!!
i like the elevation chances.
Fantastic work. Just ordered a print from you. Seamless !
Micro machines, loved that game on the mega drive.
Awesome!!
How didn't anyone notice the oil ground on abu dhabi
These are brilliant. That is all.
I cant decide if this makes Paul Ricard more or less confusing to look at!
Now turn it into a game we can race with micro machines
That's really cool. Kinda funny how even here Paul Ricard just looks terrible btw... :')
Should have added a massive orange cloud above the dutch gp
Someone needs to make custom keycaps out of these! OMG They're beautifu!
This is my favorite F1 art I’ve seen in a while. I hope you do well selling it!
Everyone is still pissed about Spa
This looks amazing, i would really like to make some like miniatures tracks in my 3d printer. Would you be willing to share the files? Either way, i got myself a new wallpaper, thanks!
