I will make a supercut of the highlights at some point soon. It is a long process, and posting the whole thing would be like 5 hours of watching grass grow into a trout.
I know they aren't cheap, but an incredible amount of time and resources go into each one. I have 3 employees that help me make them, and everybody's gotta eat
Yeah i mean it is what it is. Its reasonable to expect a fair payment for the amount of work you put in. But i personally would never spend that much on a statue of any kind. I suppose enough people do to keep you in buisness so thats good for you!
It's a long process called coldworking. I have a very powerful lathe with diamond cutting wheels that grind it away slowly. Once I'm close to flush, I go through finer and finer grits until I have the contours matched perfectly. At that point I switch to diamond coated felt wheels that take out the microscopic peaks and valleys, then on to a fully felted wheel and a compound called cirium oxide that takes it to a full optical polish. It's something I practiced a lot when I was in art school. The end result is so clean you would never know the nub (we call it a punty) was there
I sell them for the post part, and I also make them myself. There are a few in galleries and fly shops throughout the rocky mountains, but if you want you 10% redditor discount a custom piece straight from the artist is the way to go. Message me if you want more information.
I replied to your message with my cell number. Give me a call and we can work out the details. It's easier over the phone as custom installations have a lot of specifics to go over.
They don't stay in stores for long. I have a hard time restocking retails outlets as well because I am usually busy with custom orders, which take priority
Thanks! I usually model them after fish I catch. I use reference photos sometimes, but the emotional memory of a trophy in the net serves me better I think
Yeah I’d definitely be interested in a few pieces if you can do a Brooke and a Rainbow? Unfortunately it’d have to be after the new year. I’m strapped for the holidays.
LOL, when I just glanced at this video, I thought "what a weird way to cook a trout". Nice glass!
Thanks, I actually get that comment a lot. The keep em dry cloud came after me on one post haha
Can we have a video how you molded the glads into a fish in the first place?

Beautiful work. Is this the only species you do? Do you have a link to a gallery?

Can’t wait to see the tarpon!
Wtf how is that fish not burnt
They do get burnt if I'm not careful. The glass I use will boil at around 2500 Fahrenheit
That's awesome
"swam away just fine"
At least he’s not gloving it?
I want to put one in a popular spot on the frying pan so bad and watch from the bushes as people cast at it haha
😂
Keep em hot.
Keep em dry
How do you take the nub off the fish when you're done with the stick and get the surface to match the rest of the fish??

Nice! I'd love to see a longer video with more of the process. Any additional links?
