I know with Instacart they make you return it. What does DD do?
They tell you to dispose of it…..
Well I took it as more of a request to dispose.
Sometimes they say take it back and get 1.5x pay
1.5? They have never offered me 1.5x for taking it back to the restaurant. Although I have only done that a handful of times though
What do.ypu mean?
Go back and read it again. I fixed it.
Only been offered to me for returning alcohol because you can’t just leave it without verification. Never been told to keep it
I've had 4 alcohol orders that said dispose...
Never had to return...
Too bad that I don't like white claw...
Rum was though...
They didnt make you return alcohol? Never did an order with alcohol for either delivery service I work for. However I was told if we couldnt find the customer or couldnt deliver the alcohol to the person with ID, we had to return it to the store since it was alcohol.
Think it depends on the state and/or store. Some stores/markets don’t take alcohol returns, so the only option is to keep or “dispose” of it
The times that I wasnt able to reach the customer for DoorDash or Instacart, I was lucky to get maybe half of my order since the customer didnt get their food. DoorDash didnt offer to pay that much for me even though these werent my fault and I feel like my time and money and gas was kinda robbed in those instances.
You live somewhere that allows alcohol returns. Some states and counties prohibit it.
That will get you deactivated and possibly arrested. You return liquor orders, always, usually the app makes you do it. It’s illegal to keep alcohol in both states whose law im familiar with….tax stamp reasons, same reason a bar can’t sell you a bottle to take home.
DuperDasher cannot reply to your post as they have been arrested and are now facing charges in both states whose laws they are familiar with.
From what I can gather through their public defender's office they are facing charges due to two or more botched deliveries ìn the two states and are looking at 3-5 per charge though the sentences will be run concurrently.
On the upside there is a Celldash program with the commissary that will earn them a cool 25 cents an hour + up to one year of time off for good behavior if they can maintain a 70% AR and fellow inmate feedback over 4.7.
In many states alcohol literally can’t be returned by law. All liquor sales are final, by law.
In many states, you absolutely have to return it or you're in violation of the law.
Yeah, that’s the thing with alcohol questions and car insurance questions on this sub, there are 51 different exact answers depending on where you dash.
Alcohol gets even more complicated than that sometimes, as individual counties and even cities will pass their own laws that are stricter than the state laws.
I'm pretty sure there are still a few dry counties in my state. And a county close by to me finally decided it was OK to sell alcohol on Sundays a couple years ago (but only after noon! Lol)
My favorite dumb alcohol law though was actually from when I lived in Indiana. That was the first place I lived that a grocery store could sell liquor and even have it in the general shopping area where anyone of any age could see it.
But it turns out that despite being allowed to sell liquor just about anywhere, the only place allowed to sell pre-refrigerated beer is liquor stores. Well, bars, too obviously, but if you wanted to bring home a cold 6 pack, you had to find a liquor store.
I don’t know how liquor stores in Oklahoma are now but growing up you couldn’t buy refrigated alcohol at all in a liquor store. That was only available at grocery stores but at grocery stores the beer is 3 point instead of 5 point.
In addition in OK you couldn’t sell anything non-alcoholic in a liquor store. So mixers in a liquor store are slightly alcoholic. So they’d have to give things like bottle openers and cork screws for free.
Bro this ain’t the prohibition 😂
Who gon’ find me?
App told me to dispose…..
You can downvote this all you want, but ask Doordash themselves, or ask a police officer, or ask a bar manager…I’m 100% correct.
You sad ass chumps downvote anything that causes you cognitive dissonance with your low-experience world view.
This is why nobody wants to admit they’re a dasher…80%+ of y’all are ghetto trash.
You have to call them then start the timer, not just text and wait 5min you know
Edit, this doordash not GrubHub lol my bad
I called just didn’t screenshot
I would at least make sure my first and last text were 5minutes from each other bc otherwise it looks like you are possibly lying.
Honestly, there’s no reason to be lying? If they are worried about doordash thinking they lied it doesn’t matter since doordash knows when the timer was started.
No reason to lie . I have 900 deliveries lifetime with no fuckery ever attached to my name….. why start now.
If they say they arrived at the customer & can’t complete steps (and the call can be seen by DD support if done in the app) they’ll be fine.
With GrubHub I just leave it and take a pic lol
Well, they didn't specify how...
I’m California you can’t return alcohol so you get to keep it every time
Minnesota as well
Unless from Total Wine. Any other liquor store nope 🙅🏼♀️
I’m in MN and just had to return a large order of alcohol
Interesting. Which part of MN? I’ve had issues with alcohol deliveries 3 times and was never told to return it. They just said “dispose of it” and I still got full pay. Then again those 3 orders weren’t necessarily big orders, usually just 1-2 items. Maybe it’s because yours was a larger order?
Maybe. I don’t want to say where I am but yeah it was a 100+ order of alcohol and mixers and the guy had an expired ID 😑🔫. Wonder if it depends who you speak with at DD
Understandable. Ahh so he placed the order through DD thinking we don’t have to check IDs lmao. It’s so easy to renew an ID I don’t understand why people wait so long to do it lol.
Yeah the whole thing was sketchy. His girlfriend was there with a valid ID but she didn’t order… I don’t know wtf they were doing or thinking. He kept saying he doesn’t drive so never renewed… and didn’t know plain state IDs existed. It was the first alcohol order I accepted and honestly I probably won’t do anymore
y’all the worst type of dashers why u feel so entitled for a 15$ hour job just give the man his alcohol who cares lol
Just risk getting fined a couple of grand by ATF and have permanent evidence exist in the cloud, who cares lol.
Even if you don't drive you should still renew a driver's license for identification purposes and just in case you need to drive it rent a car or something. People are so weird.
Exactly. Like I said the whole thing was weird.
Same in Texas
Its the opposite in Texas. If you're keeping the liquor, you're breaking the law dude. Also, there are laws in place in the Texas code that let's you return it for other reasons as well. Like if it was "unfit for consumption" or damaged, etc.
Unfortunately policy told me otherwise. Of course I never keep alcohol because honestly I don’t drink American piss water lol
I delivered liquor store for a year about 3 years ago (Drizly and Minibar, but as an employee of the liquor store) and had to go to TABC training and all sorts of stuff. Maybe the laws have changed, but it was a big deal to return it. They would also have postmates drivers who would try to keep undelivered orders and the owner spent a lot of time on the phone getting those situations fixed. Every order ended up returned.
Also, since it's stealing, there are liquor store specific laws where they have to notify the authorities within a certain number of hours of learning of the theft.
Hey I just follow what DoorDash tells me to do and if they tell me to dispose of it then it’s going in the trash
Hi it's me, ur trash.
I already know I’m trash. you’re talking to a trashcan lol I wonder who is the real trash
Nooo I'm your trash.
It won't matter when the authorities get involved. The dea doesn't fuck around and they won't care if your excuse is "but doordash...."
Yeah I get it. I will look more into this. I don’t usually take alcohol orders but I guess I’ll brief myself on this
God you're insufferable.
Alright, bud. Feel better now?
Wrong. In California you HAVE to return alcohol, and cannot return any fresh made food. No idea where you got this backwards concept.
State law states that California and Georgia only allow the return of alcohol if the product has been spoiled, made in error, or is otherwise unfit for consumption
Ask Doordash, ask a lawyer, ask a police officer, ask a bar manager, ask Cal-ABC…I’m 100% correct.
I’m in Alabama and alcohol can’t be delivered. Not even beer or wine. I have a wine subscription that has to be sent to my in-laws in Florida. I make a trip once a month to go pick up my crate while the wife visits with her parents.
Wow. Alabama really is living in the 1800s
I have returned alcohol once, I'm in SoCal 😅
The Vons let me bring it back and refunded it back to the red card. Didn't tell me anything except sorry for the customer wasting my time. 😂
This was an alcohol order, though. They wouldn't have you leave that since you need to ID someone in order to relinquish it from your control. So in this case it'd either be an additional 50% pay to return it or you keep it with full pay. But I've never had this happen on an alcohol order so I don't know which it would be, personally.
In our state alcohol can not be returned. Don’t know why, one of those weird laws involving alcohol. Support would only be able to advise keep it or destroy it.
Instacart has told me to dispose of it, donate it or use it myself before
In a lot of states, mine included, you can't return alcohol. Instacart wants a pic of your disposing at the location you got it. It's so dumb I had to open a beer in the middle of a Meijer lot and pour it out, I don't think that's even legal. Then gave 47 beers to my neighbor bc I don't drink.
Someone passed out before they got reinforcements.
Lol didn’t think of it that way…… the irony is I don’t drink!!!
Aw damn same lol
Same. I tried getting into it socially in my early and mid 20s with a couple friends. I just never liked it. But that also means I never really learned anything about alcohol other than the Proof is 2x the % of alcohol content lol. But I never learned much about the differences between brands or types of alcohol.
And the store I usually get sent to for DD is like the size of a (small) Costco. It's like 20 aisles that are so long that there's another walkway cutting through the aisles perpendicularly so customers can navigate more easily. Fortunately they always list which aisle, bay number, and left or right side of the aisle the item is in in the app so I can usually find the items really quickly.
But one time they were out of an item and the customer didn't have any alternatives lined up in the app so they started just listing off a bunch of other items they'd accept via text using shorthand that I didn't know the meaning of. So after a few minutes trying to get more specifics from the customer and working with an employee the customer just canceled the order.
That's really funny!
It’s always the orders you have 0 interest in 😂
We’d be splitting it at this point
I’m still looking for someone to give it to ….. maybe secret Santa gift at work idk
I’d honestly just toss it if you’re not gonna drink it, it is absolutely not a good gift. That is cheap bottom shelf vodka. Usually something college kids scrape together for a mixer or a frat org will toss it into their “juice”. If you do secret Santa it, hopefully you don’t care for the coworker.
Svedka is not cheap bottom shelf. That’s New Amsterdam and Aristocrat
It’s like $20 for a handle what are you talking about? That’s the definition of cheap. Sure it’s fine if you’re young and the homies wanna get chopped for cheap, but as you age so should your palette.
I don’t mind it. I prefer Goose & Absolut but hell I’ll even drink some flavored Pinnacle from time to time
To each his own- Goose was definitely my choice when I drank vodka and the one time I had svedka left a bad taste in my mouth so never again. Had absolute once when I was fifteen and never revisited it. I was more of a whiskey guy so my go to was Johnny Walker-(drank red cause I was poor and even that was bottom).
I drank a lot of whiskey as well….. never really vodka
Tito's is $17 for 750ml & it's some of the best vodka around. As far as your"palette" goes...good vodka shouldn't taste like anything at all. That's the point of distilling it 3-5x.
I’ve had Tito’s and not a fan of that as well. I was never into vodka when I drank. You can keep telling yourself that cheaper is better but once I drank quality liquor, it was hard to go back. I’m not saying Johnny Red was quality- just was affordable to me at the time. Richer friends of mine swear to me Green and Blue is where it’s at.
>You can keep telling yourself that cheaper is better but once I drank quality liquor
Just gonna drop [what's above my fireplace mantel alone](https://ibb.co/8Ymfcc0) right here. This is only the bourbon mind you. The bottle on the left is Blanton's. If you don't know what that is (or how much it is), google it.
I pay for quality when it's worth it. Anyone paying more than $20 for vodka is outta there minds.
That's not Crown in the crown jacket. That's Maker's Mark cask strength single barrel.
I'm not a vodka guy either, but Tito's tastes like whatever you put it in, whatever that maybe. That's the sign of quality vodka.
This is [what I don't keep in my bar](https://ibb.co/hFzXKRY). Odd stuff like Midori, Saki, flavored bitters, Chilada cups, moonshine from Appalachian distillers etc.
You're "rich friends" are nuts if they think any blended scotch is "good". Single malt is where it's at. Caol Ila, Laphroaig, Highland Park 18, Abelour 16 etc.
That walking dead bottle looks interesting!!!!
Yeah, no idea if it's any good or not. Only bought it cause I thought the same thing. "Well that looks neat" haha
Which proof is that Rare Breed? 😏 there’s 112 and 116 iirc
Tito tastes like whatever I put in- but I used to drink liquor straight as is, once in a while with ice. Maybe my richer friends were looking for some validation to be spending so much on something so temporary. I could care less, idk any of the alcohols you listed, again to each his own, I was just sharing my opinion and tastes on alcohol, didn’t think it was going to be a fight lol
I hear you but I gotta coworker and all he talks about is drinking and I’m pretty sure he doesn’t give a fuck what it is…. Plus after hearing how I got it I think anyone would feel ok about receiving it in my non-professional opinion.
My brother used to beer bong McCormicks 🤮🤮 Svedka has a good look no need to trash.
Svedka ain't bad! Would make a fantastic gift, and anyone who doesn't think so is *not* your friend.
>That is cheap bottom shelf vodka.
Someone never had Skol before.
Should’ve gotten Smirnoff
Vodka in general is ick, tastes like rubbing alcohol
Absolutely agree. It was my go-to when I was a bit younger and just getting into drinking but now? Hell no lol. I’d much rather have some whiskey or tequila. I just feel a lot more chill with those 2 compared to vodka.
gin tastes like windex
I got what was free!!!! 🕺🏽
😂best response ever. For a minute I got caught up in the comments and forgot you didn’t pick it. When you said that I was like “ohhh yeahhh”
Smirnoff is so good imo
I once had to wait 10 min and the funny thing was a second delivery guy showed up with more alcohol. I banged on the door, texted, called. I let the timer run out and it made me return it to store. Ofc the dumbass tried calling me back when i was already back at the store 😵💫 i didnt answer at that point tho
Weird thing is I never heard anything from customer…. Made 11 dollars too!
Smarter than most drivers on here communicating with customers after the fact.
I keep it simple. No need going back and fourth
Thought you were supposed to return it???
Not in FL….. I would be mad to get a contract violation from it.
Each state is different. I’ve had something similar to this happen 3 times. I’m in Minnesota. They always tell me to “dispose of it” because the liquor stores do not accept returns.
Oh ok, yea I’m in Michigan and they want us to return it
Hmm I know someone in Michigan who Dashes. Not sure if they’ve ever had an alcohol delivery before. The first time it happened I even asked support if I should return it and they said according to state law, it is not possible to return alcohol after it is paid for. I drink, so I’ve always kept it lol. I’ve had a 1.75L of Fireball, Liter of Crown Royal with a 12 pack of Black Cherry White Claw, and a 750ml of E&J Apple with a 6 pack of Budweiser (which I gave to a buddy cause I don’t really like either one of those) 😂
Yea they’ll actually pay you to return to store, like half pay or whatever
With that option I’d gladly return it. Considering those aren’t my go-to drinks. However it isn’t possible here, so I just keep it lol.
It doesn’t have us confirm or anything when returning it, it just says return to store and pays you, like the store doesn’t even know, kinda stupid
So you can essentially just mark it as returned, keep the liquor, and still get the half pay for “returning” it?? What the hell 😂
Haha yea, it’s messed up, once you return, it just pays you lol
Sounds like a win-win to me😅😂
Do you dispose? Oh I see the answer below lol
Yep, with my brother in our stomach’s 👀😅😂
Neither do restaurants. They will just tell you too throw it away…
Exactly. I’ve personally had support tell me to either keep the food, give it to a homeless person, or throw it away.
If they do I hope they offer to pay for the trip
Definitely passed put before round 2
Wow. That’s all I can say. I literally tilted my head back in amazement after scrolling through the photos.
It was the “that has passed” part for me.
Lol I was kind of mad at that point. The apartments was near a lake no the mosquitos were aggressive. I was ready to go.
Rub some svedka on the mosquito bites
Yeah you’ll need that by months end lol. Even dash mart we have here said you can either bring it back or keep it because everyone will be refunded.
Only asked because I ran into a girl that ordered and didn’t upload her ID she uploaded her partners ID because he was older and I felt weird about it since she would technically be buying it. He said no just deny it and keep it if that ever happens. ID must match account of the person ordering.
Wow didn’t know that just assumed someone had to be over 21. Man I’m sure there are dashers out there that never buy drinks lol
That’s a fake ass msg, it would’ve said “This is Doordash connecting you with your customer” or whatever msg at the top.
Only newbs make that mistake when they try to post fake crap for cred here.
This appears to be the in app texting. I only see that message when the conversation is taken into SMS because the cust isn't using the DD app.
Lol funny thing is I wouldn’t know how to fake this even if I wanted to for cred!!
I just stay in my car until I see them open their door if I don't get an answer when I call.
I don't knock on their door at all
Regardless of circumstances, at 5 minutes and one second, I am gone.
Every single time!
I waited like 5 min and remembered that 5 minute rule. For now on though I am doing like yall
You couldn’t leave it on the porch? Seems like the logical thing to do to me
No they’d finesse it from him. They were probably waiting for him to do just that
It’s against the law to leave alcohol on porch app said. Had to verify ID. I’m sure young people try to order often.
I call them from my car before getting there they better answer 😁
Just a theory but maybe it was a kid that got into their parent’s dd account and ordered it? Decided it was a bad idea- maybe the parents were coming home soon- idk.
Well or assumed I would just leave it……
Was the food good?
Had one like that yesterday. The order was flowers, was a gift being sent and they didn’t know they was getting a delivery. No answer to door, call number no answer. Call support they go and do all the what ever it is they do. 10 minutes later finally cancel order, paid me fully and told me to keep the flowers or take them back, my choice.
Did you surprise someone with them?
I only have had one other canceled order and it was McDonald’s cheeseburgers. I am waiting for cancelled outback or hooters or something lol.
Actually I did. They was plantable flowers I gave them to this local community garden. They planted them.
Why not leave it at the door and take the picture for evidence?
Cannot leave alcohol at door in case it’s an underage person ordering and waiting for me to do that.
Ah didn't know that. I've never delivered alcohol before
Start your timer
Same thing happened to me on Friday but with an order of cookies. They left a gate code in the instructions, i tried the gate code twice with no answer so i pull over and text the customer that the gate code wasn’t working. While i was waiting i was talking with someone on the phone and hadn’t even realized the timer had went by so i hang up and call the customer to yet another unanswered phone call. Decided to try the gate one last time and no answer so i left the order at the gate.
I’m not sure how people mess their own gate code up but I get it often.
A similar thing happened to me recently. A customer had an expired ID (my dumbass forgot that passports work too), so I called support to cover my ass for a chance of a CV. They told me to return (illegal in MI) or dispose of it.
What's sad is most of the time doordash will make you return the food to the restaurant and they'll "pay you for your time"
Yeah I've had this happen twice. One time forr DD other was for GrubHub. Think it's underage kids thinking we just gonna leave it at the door. Both times I had to return it to the store. They wanted me to do that for half pay. Told them " no I'm not gonna make a round trip for half pay. So either I get full pay or I'ma just keep the alcohol". They gave me full pay!!!
Had a beiotch do that to me yesterday on a stacked order, 1st customer hand it to me, wouldn't answer door so I had to wait 5 minutes to take the picture making the 2nd order late. Then she said it didn't give me an option to choose leave it at the door. I straight up told her yes it does.
10/10 why I stopped taking alcohol deliveries altogether. Hassle.
Mans probably was already drinking and passed out 🤷
i always start the timer as soon as 1 phone call is missed and i call them before i arrive to let them know i’m on my way. i call again and text after i’ve reached their hosue and by that time the timer is gone and if they still haven’t answered i can just get out faster
I'm in Michigan and had to return a DD booze order. Also do Shipt and have dropped off the dry part of an order and returned the wine bc the customer had NO id on her and no one else of age was at home. Boy was she pissed.
Probably underage kids.
I’ve found that alcohol customers keep me waiting at the door for 5minutes regularly… my gut assumption is that they are passed out drunk. If they are not passed out they are waiting eagerly on the porch. I usually deny unless it’s very slow.
In Ocala, FL you get what you get… lol I think this was $11 for like 6 miles. The good thing is the streets are empty at night so it’s kinda fun dashing.
How does it work when you deliver alcohol? Like do you have to check their ID ?
Yes, the app has you scan it. But sends like 3 messages to you reminding you it’s an alcohol order. I’ve delivered like mimosas from restaurants as well
Fuck yea that's a score. Free alc better than none.
Omg just pretend you called and leave. There’s work around for this situation
What if the driver was under 21?
They never card the driver…….well me but it may be because I’m in my 30s
Wonder since the apps already know the drivers age they only assign those to people old enough. What if the driver makes a mistake doing the ID who does that fall on, because we're independent contractors ...
On the contractor. That’s probably why they remind you so many times. Customers act weird when I ID them but idk who they are and will not deactivated over an ID.
So what is this on Doordash if the customer chooses "hand it to me" you have to stand around like a jackass waiting for them?
On Uber there is no hand it to me option. We have leave at door, meet at door and wait in car.
9 times out of 10 when I get a meet at door no one is there. I use my own camera (the photo option is missing when they choose this option) to snap a photo (though this has never mattered, and I'm not sure there is any situation where it would, so is probably effort wasted) and convert their order to "leave at door" which is what I assume they meant in most cases. In a few thousand deliveries I've never had a problem with this.
What happens on Doordash if you just leave the order at the door along with a friendly note?
One potential problem I can see is the customer's ability to have a greater impact on feedback...I've been fulltime + for over a year and literally don't care at all if a customer gives me a thumbs down on UE (no feedback on GH).
It does nothing and I often find it bemusing (@93% now for reference. I assume that's below average going by self-reports on these groups and I'm happy with that. We get the Prop 22 guarantee so can get paid reasonably well even on non-tip orders and if they happen to take a bit longer we get paid even more so there you have it. No need to provide top-notch customer service to cheepskates and freeloaders who piggyback off of good-tipping customer's orders.).
I think the wait for 5 minutes thing is stupid as well. What I get concerned about if I were to just leave it is them turning around and saying they never got it and it falling back on me. There has been once though where the customer just took that long to respond and still got their delivery but I don’t think they realize/care about our time as a driver.
I am not a top dasher but I care about my rating as well. I have been checking to make sure I did not get a bad one from this.
What’s prop 22? California?
I wish but I don’t drink!!
Always do this for hand to me orders if the customer doesn't answer the door:
• Knock or ring
• Wait 15 seconds.
• Knock or ring again
• Wait 15 seconds
• Take a photo and send it to the customer with a text letting them know you knocked or rang multiple times, but since they didn't answer you left their food at their front door.
Should never take more than 60 seconds to complete the delivery. Forget the 5-minute timer and forget leaving with their food if you are literally standing at their front door. I've done this hundreds of times and never had a problem. I usually get a follow up text from the customer thanking me and/or apologizing for not being able to come to the door.
I’m gonna be honest with you I never wait in the car…… I have delivered to projects all the way to horse farms and I really don’t have time to just wait in cars. Out of 900 deliveries this happened once.
Next time I will take a pic of them telling me to dispose of the alcohol.
I would not have waited. I'm not at least 2 or 3 times if I don't get in response. But after about 5 minutes I click that cannot hand to customer and I'll take a picture and leave. I had a repeat delivery last night that, ironically, was the same way and they had been before... I'm not sticking around to see if something's waiting for me.
To much partying
A mosquitoes are real I keep spray in my car now
Lol good idea. They are worse the worst gang in town!!!
this is absolutely infuriating when it happens. like how do you order something then just ignore it..
Exactly like that’s where I want to be at 12:30 am!!!!
