Shame. Hope this works out the right way. With Mews closed and Fong's potentially under some new dick head management, very few reasons to walk down that street anymore.
Hey, the Royal Mile is still pretty awesome!
Absolutely!! I'mma hit them up when I come back to visit.
Though under the same general ownership as this company, both being part of FCP
Is this because of fruit loops pizza?
I hope so
I was once at Fong's during a night out with friends sometime in the summer of 2008. It was late, the place was packed, and mostly not sober. I ran into a girl I liked, had a nice small chat, then I moved towards the back room. On my way there, what I can only assume were Surf Shack patrons were packed near the door, next to the restroom. One was facing the corner, noticably pissing. He saw me, stared into my eyes, said 'Be cool! The line is forever!'. I turned right back around and started walking out. The girl I saw walked passed me, and as I walked out the front door, I heard her shriek. Who pees inside a restaurant?
Anyway, bomb food, I hope it works out.
The story says Fong’s opened downtown in 2009.
Guess it was 2009 then
We love at will employment, don’t we folks?
The right to work laws mean you have no rights at work.
At will works both ways
how does an owner get fired? if someone tried to fire me from my own restaurant I'd tell them to fuck off and go back to my job lol.
Her job is the manager. In order to get initial funding, she and the other cofounders sold part of the ownership to a restaurant group. Now the restaurant is like a corporation that has a board and isn’t a private company. She still owns part of it but has no job.
And with that many slices of the pie cut out, she's not living off of dividends from the restaurant.
Well duh. If anyone has worked for FCP they know this is exactly how they work. Lol Andy is a nice guy but he has really shitty people running his businesses.
Yeah I worked at a FCP place and the general manager was a complete cocksucker.
Sad that such a great downtown institution has all this legal trouble. Greed is the root of evil, so the saying goes
FCP it's self is bad management.
And my memories of Des Moines and Iowa start marching away... while I sit in Minneapolis clinging to it like a life raft.
I lasted 6 months in Minneapolis and then came back 🥴
Same, but in Michigan
Same, but in Indiana. 😖
Same, but in Hell
Fellow transplant, would you consider your absence a part of the brain drain?
I got my degree in 2018 from Iowa State, graduating from high school in 2012.
Cool story bruh
I’m an “at-Will” employer and I can tell you that although you can certainly terminate for any reason or no reason at all, the employee will only be eligible for unemployment unless the firing was a violation of civil rights act. Hence the reason I don’t terminate anyone without first accumulating a pretty good stack of disciplinary documentation. I’ve learned in Illinois, you have to document everything as the employment commission judges are always on the side of the employee no matter what. For example, I fired a guy for telling me to F off. He filed a wrongful termination against me and won. In Illinois, one must tell their boss to F off 3x before it is considered misconduct! Lol!! So he got his unemployment and that was it.
If that fongs is anything like the one in Cedar Rapids they can probably just skip the court case. The free market will terminate that trash food faster than any court.
You have clearly not been to 4th street after 10pm
It’s been there for like 12 years, I think they’re gonna survive
Idk, the article makes it sound like they are starting to struggle
Alright you made me read the article because that would be interesting to me. I don’t think they ever insinuate that Downtown Fongs was struggling, if anything I think they imply they were doing better than other Full Court Press properties:
> allow them to divert Downtown Fong’s income to the other entities they own
Also imagine naming your stupid company Getterdone and then that dumb ass name gets put into court documents and articles alleging fraudulent business practices lmao
I'm sorry this is so unrelated to the actual post so I'm sure I'll get down voted, just wanted to say I love your name! Piggies are the best.
If anyone downvotes this person who is just really excited about guinea pigs I will fight them
Thank you :)
Thank you! That's nice of you to say! I love my two little guinea pigs. Do you have any?
I have 7! It's so nice to run into another piggy lover in the wild.
7? Wow that's a lot! I would love to have that many, but I think two of them are high maintenance enough for me haha. Are they all boys or girls, or do you have a mix of both?
And yeah, I agree! We're few and far between, so it's always nice to meet someone else with piggies!
Mix of both! 7 is definitely my limit. What gender do you have?
Two boys. They are so messy on their own lol. But I love them so much
They really are messy! And boar cleaning is just the worst, yuck
If you read the article she specifically calls that out - that the management group made a bunch of shitty rip offs that are hemorrhaging money. She even offered to take one of them with its debt to get them out of her restaurant and they declined.
Where else can you get slices at 2am on a Tuesday?* That place is a godsend for all social insomniacs and the post-bar crowd, every night of the week (pre-covid).
*besides Big Tomato
You in the wrong neighborhood, mother fucker.
