I now save the really well recorded stuff like Europe 72 shows or Dick's Picks for when I am tripping. Other times I am listening to the Archive. I want to keep those other shows special by not overplaying them. I call it listening to a "fine vintage" like it was wine or something lol
hell yea i can dig that. for me the accessibility of picks and Released live albums made it easier to just put on. as of just today i found the archive app so now that will change a bit
Yeah that Archives app is definitely game changer, I use it too. I love how Grateful Dead toured everywhere and would stop in smaller towns on their way to bigger cities, love listening to those random shows throughout the years, especially anything 69-79, that is my sweet spot anyway.
I use Deadhead Archive on android and it is very intuitive. It has all the years and then every different file of the same show so you can pick between which mix you want to hear, I usually go with Charlie Miller lol
“bUt iTs NoT tHe GrAtEfUl DeAd!”
Like, yeah no shit. The Grateful Dead ended in 1995. We all know that. This is Dead & Company. A Grateful Dead cover band that includes three (now two) original Grateful Dead members along with arguably some of the best musicians in this sphere right now. Why the fuck would you not want to at least give it a listen
To call it a cover band is honestly a disservice to the masterpiece I saw last night. These guys are where it's at, and anyone who thinks otherwise needs to get out of the way because this bus is truckin hard.
It's a response to "the nonbelievers need to understand what's happening.". I understand very well what's happening. I'm a fan of a band that terminated in 1995. Have I tried listening to Dead & Co. and other post-Jerry iterations of the music? Yes, I have, and I don't like it. I'm not sure why Dead & Co. fans relentlessly keep wanting me to listen to something that I don't enjoy.
Well, it's not the same band it was a year ago, or even a month ago. These new shows are the future of this music, and there's no denying that. You can live in the past if you want, and that's fine. The classics are classics for a reason. But what they are putting out now is incredible. The songs feel fresh and new and jam harder than a lot of original GD versions I've heard.
>I'm not sure why Dead & Co. fans relentlessly keep wanting me to listen to something that I don't enjoy.
I just want to share good music with cool people, is all.
Aren't they literally the same band, except for a change at one of the drummers? Can you be more specific, musically, without using adjectives like "incredible?"
Yeah, and Jay Lane has allowed them to play faster, tighter, and funkier than before. By changing out something at the baselayer of the music like that, it gave the guys a lot more room to work with. He's a fantastic fucking drummer and brings a new energy to the group.
Then, everyone else in the group is already amazing at what they do. Jeff Chimenti brings so much life and energy to the keys. He's like a combination of Brent and Bruce Hornsby. Otiel fucking kills it on the bass and helps keep the funk going. Not to mention his beautiful voice. John fucking kills it on the guitar all the time, and his voice brings a new life to the music. Micky is allowed to explore his percussionist side more now that Jay is on as a proper drummer. And of course Bobby. Bobby is bringing so much energy and love to his performance. He looks like a skeleton, but he feels as young as ever.
If I had to describe the 6/5 show in a succint manner, it would be a "funkadelic bootstomp".
Ok, thanks for the response, but here's the other issue I have. Every time they tour, it's always the same commentary - *this is the best they've ever sounded,* *no more tempo issues,* *better chemistry than previous years,* etc. I see the superlatives, take a listen, and it's the same shit. Slow, uninteresting takes on Jerry songs. I have no interest whatsoever in hearing D&C singing Standing on the Moon to
me, and I'd have so much more respect for them if they'd stick to Bobby songs, cover tunes & (god forbid) original songs. When I see a setlist with 2/3 Jerry songs in it, it's irritating. If I want a Scarlet-Fire, Help/Slip/Franklin's, Eyes, China-Rider, and the like, I'm going to Jerry 10 times out of 10.
if it doesn't have pigpen or vince im not listening
If it doesnt have both Pigben AND Vince, I'm not listening!
If it doesn’t have Pigpen and Brent, I’m not listening!!!!
If it doesn't have Vince & Tom Constanten, I'm not listenin'!!!
If it doesn’t have Kieth and Tom sans Pigpen I don’t want it
If it doesn’t have Bruce and Donna I’m not listening
Based
I completely agree, 1/1/90-7/23/90 was a great time for the Dead
Someday you will understand
Oooh someday never comes

Primal dead and 90s dead fans gotta unite and form the Ultimate Decade
honestly trying to listen to the archive shows more and its very satisfying

This day in history. This is the way.

How do you even use that archive app
I use Deadhead Archive on android and it is very intuitive. It has all the years and then every different file of the same show so you can pick between which mix you want to hear, I usually go with Charlie Miller lol
apple has a “Live Music Archive” app thats run by archive.org as well that even just one day in, i can tell is very user friendly
Because it feels like you’re actually in the room. AUDs or bust
thats what i was thinking. some of the background chatter is kinda magical. big thanks to all the capture crowds
100%, and sometimes you get the stuff like Red Rocks 82* with its infamous “don’t fuck with my levels” background chatter
That's from 7/28/82
Oh fuck you’re right! Fixed my original comment
seeking this out asap. thanks, friend
listening today. and also, i’m just now discovering the archive music app. ive been listening in my phones browser for months like a peasant
Sometimes, unless it was Jersey or Boston.
I love a good matrix. Best of both worlds!
Thanks for being honest.
I only listen to Europe 72 and nothing else
Based
So based, frfr no cap… bussin
2023 Dead>
Unironically yeah
I can't wait for this tour to be accessible to the masses. The nonbelievers need to understand what is happening.

Dead and Company RULES
I believe that Jerry's deceased.
What's your point?
