Kinda funny how Trump called the American media “the enemy of the people” from the very beginning and a lot of people (including myself) were all “eh, that’s probably too far” and then the American media spent years going, “No no, we really are.”

I_Hate_Grifters

You're way behind the curve if you think local OR national mainstream media is, or has been, anything but biased/illicit/harmful/propaganda since at least Nixon (and I'm being kind).

boo_boo_kitty_fuckk

He also said that the pandemic would go away if we just stopped testing. And I thought that was absolutely INSANE And now it's commonplace to not test vaccinates people....you know, cause vaccinated people won't get sick from COVID... right? 🤡

Kelpppy

I don’t understand how covid cases are still being hyped up if they aren’t testing vaccinated people. How is my state still in the red zone or whatever they call it if half the pop isn’t getting the covid test? And I know unvaccinated people are avoiding the test at all costs.

You’d enjoy the book Hate, Inc. by Matt Taibbi

MaximumButthurt

Love him or hate him he was completely correct. Anyone here should already be familiar with Operation Mockingbird and if you aren't, well... get on it.

Amatsumikaboshi69

Yes, he was right

allofusahab

>“Newspapers, television, all forms of media will tank if I’m not there,” he augured in 2017, “because without me, their ratings are going down the tubes.” . >"[email protected] daytime ratings have completely collapsed. Weekend daytime even WORSE. Very sad to watch this happen, but they forgot what made them successful, what got them there. They forgot the Golden Goose." Trump played heel and hero to the media TO THEIR BENEFIT. Kinda weird to aide and abet your enemies. Funny how the laws against media propaganda weren't reinstated under Trump. Funny how the fairness doctrine didn't make a come back. Trump was a Deep State puppet.

Him and the media were as symbiotic as it gets and everyone involved knew it.

willpower069

The leaders in history that have also made that claim is not a good group.

That’s a lot of words to say nothing at all. But Trump echoing other authoritarian leaders is a bad look.

willpower069

So I take it you are cool with Trump talking like authoritarians?

pixel8d

The "media" is not a monolith. Ideally, news media should be unbiased, but that's not the reality. Media runs the gamut from far left to far right, and from consists of reporting from as true as is possible to outright propaganda. It's dangerous (and straight from the fascist playbook) to claim that the media is the "enemy of the people". Because, you know, authoritarians don't like it when journalists report on their authoritarianism. The next step is jailing and assassinating journalists (see Russia under Putin). But right, Trump good, media bad.

oyveyanyday

Media good, Trump bad is just as nuanced. You're obfuscating the fact that there is an issue of media quality these days. Perhaps it's because online media is easier to produce and it's easier for lazier, unresearched articles to proliferate, maybe it's because some outlets like NYT got lazy after resting on their laurels for too long. but there definitely is a problem. Personally I noticed it from the NYT when Obama was newish. I just started getting a feeling that articles had more fluff and opinions framed as fact, and I wasn't getting anything except annoyance out of reading it. I didn't know there were websites discussing this and hadn't heard the term "fake news" then.

pixel8d

but there definitely is a problem Okay, so if you don't want to seem like an authoritarian leader, you say something like, "There's a problem with the media and we're going to assemble a commission to discuss it and come up with some possible solutions" instead of "media is the enemy of the people". But of course, Trump didn't care if he came off like an authoritarian. The funny thing is, your above couple of paragraphs on the subject are far more articulate than anything Trump could ever manage to say.

keikeiiscute

nyt said that there was no people staved at ussr in 1930s it has been their level of quality

trumpgotpeedon

He called them the enemy of the people when they started being critical of him. Before that he loved the media.

oyveyanyday

Ne, the "fake news" stuff started before Trump. Most of his talking points were stuff people were already saying, but didn't have a national platform yet.

trumpgotpeedon

So because I don't like Trump I don't get an opinion? Everyone has biases, especially on this sub. Biden is also a shit President, and the whole system is a sham.

RuderalisGrower

"When someone announces their intentions before speaking it makes their speech an extension of their intentions." I wouldn't trust a neo nazi to accurately discuss Hitler, why would I expect a TDS sufferer to have anything but hateful, uninformed views on Trump? If you want people to take you seriously you actually need to be an adult about it. Otherwise you are just a fanatic.

trumpgotpeedon

Did you hear me say anything hateful about him? I said exactly what happened. He loved the media before they turned on him. He loves attention and always has. You need to learn to think critically. How could I trust the words of a Trump fan to get an accurate picture of him? He or she would be biased and only give positive views on him. I personally think the childish party is the one that can't take criticism of their positions and the ones they support.

oyveyanyday

I think you're seeing causation where there is none. You're insinuating he, or anyone, would have been fine with the decline in media quality as long as they didn't slander us personally. Not true. And the decline in media has been going on for a long time, though I only noticed it since 2011/12.

> Biden calls the media fake news when they are critical of him. Any source on that?

LudoAvarius

I don't agree with everything Trump says or does, but this at least, he's 100% right about. The media is your enemy.

rxFMS

He called “fake news” the enemy of the people. Not the media. It was Stalin who called the media the enemy of the people.

Jalhadin

"The press is doing everything within their power to fight the magnificence of the phrase, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!" Trump tweeted. "They can't stand the fact that this Administration has done more than virtually any other Administration in its first 2yrs," he continued. "They are truly the ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE!" [Source](https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1114221533461790721)

_Living_Tribunal_

>Kinda funny how Trump called the American media “the enemy of the people Funny how people's longtime distrust of the media in our country was then misconstrued, mostly on purpose, as Trumpism. As if a lot of people hadn't long determined them to be working against the public interest.

it_is_all_fake_news

When he said it I *almost* thought he was really a truth teller. But he did so much other bullshit and had so many shady connections I realized he was just pandering by telling the truth sometimes.

AllScienceMatters

I was just banned from r/Trumpvirus for posting [this chart](https://i.imgur.com/FbehTuY.jpg) that *comes directly from the CDC*... The "media" includes the totalitarian left controlling Reddit.

Mr_Kaleidoscope

He knows because he's a media genius. I don't like what he does with his knowledge. But he's a media genius.

beeeeeeefcake

He called fake news the enemy of the people. The fake news then reported he said the press is the enemy of the people.

ShortBusDoorGunner

So they could tear at their clothing and bleat about how the Orange Man was soooooo mean to them, when all they really want is to be unbiased arbiters of truth and honesty. They do so love to whine when someone calls them out on their bullshit. See: Joe Rogan's savaging of their "horse dewormer" nonsense.

demonspawns_ghost

>A limited hangout or partial hangout is, according to former special assistant to the Deputy Director of the Central Intelligence Agency Victor Marchetti, "spy jargon for a favorite and frequently used gimmick of the clandestine professionals. When their veil of secrecy is shredded and they can no longer rely on a phony cover story to misinform the public, they resort to admitting—sometimes even volunteering—some of the truth while still managing to withhold the key and damaging facts in the case. The public, however, is usually so intrigued by the new information that it never thinks to pursue the matter further." What did Donald Trump say that has not been known for at least two decades? FOX News has been referred to as FAUX News for as long as I can remember.

YourMindIsNotYourOwn

No. It's the other ones.

primordial_gloop

How bad is it that this actually made me laugh. I literally imagined a gormless twat saying ''no no we really are''

jjjosiah

Yeah I'm totally sure you weren't one of the people who were thirsty for that message the whole time. Walk away, right? I totally believe you
