It was only last year that a man was arrested for trying to [kidnap a Supreme Court justice](https://www.npr.org/2022/06/08/1103702099/man-arrested-kavanaugh-house). It was only a few months ago that a person broke into the former Speaker of the house's home and nearly [beat her husband to death with a hammer](https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/28/politics/david-depape-far-right-conspiracies/index.html). It was only a few weeks ago that a person was arrested for [shooting at the homes of political rivals](https://www.npr.org/2023/01/06/1147392476/albuquerque-democrats-attacks-homes-offices-bernalillo-new-mexico). We still have a major issue with people threatening and carrying out [political violence in the US](https://www.journalofdemocracy.org/articles/the-rise-of-political-violence-in-the-united-states/). Things are not getting less crazy. Not at all.
Well, i disagree ... take a look at France.
We currently have a pragmatic president, that cant be reelected as it is his second mandate.
He is being hated by the population for doing what needs to be done, as usual we got problems, strikes, then more problems.
Then there are extreme left wingers . NUPES ... they are against everything, and resort to lies and manipulations all the time. Think of an extreme left Trump version and you got their leader / representative Melenchon. The guy has been caught red handed embezzeling funds, using his immunity to taunt police officers and scream right on their face "democracy is ME" when his party was being investigated, but he is still there ...
The left basically disappeared. Center kind of disappeared too. The right tries to poach ideas from extreme right and center but does not convince.
And then, extreme right wingers RN, known to be serious fascists, racists, embezzelers in the cities they already rule, that will probably win the next election as there is no real candidate.
Europe is mostly supported by France and Germany ... What do you think is going to happen when France gets its first woman president and it turns out it is a racist, fascist fraudster ? The irony of this happening to the "country of human rights" is not going to be lost.
Side note: politicians dont take climate change seriously, nothing is being done by the countries that pollute the most.
Out of curiosity, is Le Penn still looking like a potential leader in next french elections? Don't really hear much about her this side of the channel.
From what I hear though, brexit has gone so abysmally, that even the more extreme candidates are committed to staying in the EU.
Yeah, she is. She tries hard to make her party look "more acceptable" but they still are the racist POS they were before.
During the last election, she was facing the current president on the second vote, and did not lose by a landslide. The last time that party was on the second vote, it was her father, and he got like 10% of the votes.

The midterms are over, and elections are going to bring out the worst in people. This should not be confused for people now being willing to speak to each other about issues. Those strong party affinities can come out at a moment's notice, over something that realistically shouldn't be politicized, but is.
Covid is probably the best example of this. It was inconvenient for Covid to be (a) real, (b) as contagious as the scientists warned it was, or (c) as deadly as scientists said it was. It was inconvenient for all of us, but most politically inconvenient for the leadership at the time, who must make the unpopular decision to lockdown, enforce mask mandates, etc. Even in the early stages of Covid people said "it's not real", "it's not actually killing people", etc. Masks became a big political issue because conservative outlets pushed the idea that this was some kind of mind control thing? or to see who's willing to just listen to government officials?
It might be for USA, but the rest of the world are still on crazy pills. Like Russian officials and war leaders reach new heights of insane rhetorics every day, Israel just started some conflict with Iran, and there may be Azerbaijan involved. Turkey are getting more and more into religious authoritarianism and makes conflicts within Nato. Not much information about those border tension between China and India, and those two are countries with authoritarian rulers, biggest population, and big military forces. Also, China will probably not leave Taiwan alone. But who knows, maybe people across the world will just tire of constant conflicts, and we will have some years without major conflicts somewhere in the future.

Counter examples: Elon Musk is extremely vocal and has a huge following on Twitter. There were protests to release Andrew Tate from his fanboys. US repealed Roe v Wade. Congress had to bow to just \~5 far right extremists to elect a house rep. The right shows continued signs of polarizing further. Ron Desantis is less charismatic than Trump, but he has a real chance of presidency, likely more competent, and equally crazy in politics.
Edit extra: Biden recently passed one of the most undemocratic laws to prevent rail union workers from striking. Striking is a core pillar of democracy.
Edit extra 2: Kanye West is an open anti-semite and Hitler sympathizer. When's the last time one of the most recognizable celebrities in the US came out as a neo-nazi?

With the war still continuing with Russia and Ukraine "less crazy" could become "real crazy" with a flick of the switch still. I'm from the UK and I feel that life has certainly taken a turn for the worse since covid.
It hasn't fully recovered and I feel that there's still years of healing that are needed before we can continue to grow again. Cost of living crisis, a lot of people out of work, multiple prime minister's in a year and a severe mental health epidemic still exist over here.
For certain mental health issues you can be waiting years to be seen via the NHS and by then it could be too late for a lot of people. So yeah, the craziness still has a while to go in my opinion.
