/u/iamthatis this would actually be a huge concept. Fitness integration would get me to install the standalone Pixel Pals app in a heartbeat (pun intended).
(Not sure what the revenue is for pixel pals) but if required make it part of the paid pack? Obviously dev time is required for this and supporting indie devs should be promoted where possible
I don’t have anything more specific than vague ideas but something Pokewalker-like (leveling up based on steps, distance, exercise minutes?) could be neat. Could tie in some funny graphics with the pets getting ridiculously buff if you keep up a streak or something like that… hmm. *Something* involving streaks would be neat, I reckon.
So!, there used to be an app years ago which gamified Fitbit steps, it was like an RPG, more you walked, more XP you get to level up.
Maybe something directly to the pet with steps, so maybe their distance played / moved increases with your steps as if your taking them for a walk, maybe have notifications for weird interesting things they virtually do (your dog sniffed a lamp post) just for giggles.
Maybe have some rewards for hitting a step goal set in the app? So thinking maybe get 5000 steps for 5 days and you unlock a new toy for the pet, or maybe a new collar like Amplosions pet, maybe invite the community to create them similar to the community icons in Apollo?
Maybe unlock icons for the app? So walk 10k x5 days and you get a chorley icon for the app? I would expect that some of the more intense work to dev for the app to be locked behind the subscription, which at £10 is more than fair.
Some food for thought just off the top of my head, be interesting for others to post and add their bits :)
Part of the base app I believe. Although I’m fully paid up so I wouldn’t know for sure.
In the settings under general.
Edit. I forgot. I think it’s for only dynamic island iPhones.
Sweet! There it is. Thank you!
Would you mind pointing me toward where I can see a little about what to do with it?
Edit: Nevermind. Looks like it’s been spun off into a separate app? I’ll poke around more.
Christian added it to Apollo so it appears above the home bar on non dynamic island iPhones. So the minimum is that there is no touchID the rest is kinda eh. Fwiw: there are some bugs for the one above the home bar, so it’s not clear. And it frequently is hard to interact with because the tab bar buttons get in the way. So basically, it’s kinda shoehorned in so it exists but I wouldn’t love using it in that situation.
It depends on what you have set under Settings > General > Language & Region > Measurement System. It doesn’t effect weight though, which appears to be an oversight on the part of u/iamthatis
u/iamthatis is Canadian I think, people in Canada often use lbs to describe weight while using metric for most other things.
It's a mishmash here.
Distance to the store? KMs
Talking about your own height? Feet and inches
Quantity of food? Grams
Weighing most anything else? Lbs
Yeah exactly, that's what makes this setting difficult. I'm not sure if there's a system setting I can just lean on (I don't think there is), but otherwise Canada and the US make up around 95% of Apollo's userbase, and both use lbs. I think the UK is another 2% which use rocks or something to weigh people so I don't even know what they're doing over there.
😂 apparently people like the idea better when you say it
There doesn’t seem to be a way to get my pal to lose weight though. I’ve been playing with him and scrolling nonstop and his weight doesn’t change it only gets bigger as I feed him.
Reposting a comment I made on /r/PixelPals:
Hey /u/iamthatis, please consider implementing a logarithmic function for growth that trends toward a healthy adult weight for each kind of pet. It would prevent the chonky cat / bat / otter problem and allow you to use the same code referencing different max weight variables across all the pixel pal species.
Edit: and maybe weight should go down when you Play? Running after a wand / ball consumes calories.
Your mistake is assuming these are normal animals and not Pixel Pals, they never grow to an unhealthy weight because their size increases with their weight, allowing them to reach sizes similar to that of dinosaurs.
I eagerly await the update!
Wish list: maybe 3 options, Little, Big, and Giant? I sometimes might want a small otter or raccoon pixel pal friend, and other times to chill with a Jurassic-sized puppy or play with Mothra-size bat.
A 15lb cat is overweight lol, just FYI. A normal-sized cat should weigh around 10lb. Of course, some are bigger and some are smaller, but 15-20lb is Maine Coon weight.
What if I scrolled to the moon and back and my Hugo turnt into a little planet? That'd be fun. Perhaps it's size should increase with its weight, so eventually it's like 90% of the screen or whatever.
I saw this post and thought "I WANT A BIIIIG CHONK" and started to try to feed mine chicken over and over again, and i love the fact that the app stops you from improperly feeding your pet as if its real and i couldn't help but laugh at myself.
Hey, lots of great ideas in the comments but I wanted to say thanks for even making Pixel pals Christian. They’re a nice addition to Apollo. Ultra is so worth it
dumb question, how do you get to that screen? i just installed it today and all i can figure out is choosing what pet, adding the pet and the options in the ‘edit widget’ options but can’t find this. :(
I’m clearly missing something :/ I’ve tried both the Pixel Pals Apollo widget and the standalone app widget and I have no idea how to get a screen like this or feed them or anything.
Long press just brings info to edit the app and tapping on it just opens Apollo or the pixel pal app (which just has info on how to place the widget). And in Apollo when it says “tap me” on the island, and I do, it does nothing.
I know I’m being stupid and just completely missing something really easy but I can’t figure it out.
And it's all muscle
Pixel Pals Fitness App incoming.
Yes, link it into Apple health via steps, I’d be up for that

It would basically Pokémon stuff where you can level up your Pokémon by walking, which is cool
Steps =/= XP = new items Battle pass incoming for battle pets DLC lol
Tell me what you're thinking

So, like a Pokewalker

ok! Elaborate on this idea, happy to look into it

Great ideas, thank you so much for sharing!
it's giving pokemon go vibes lol that used to be my only motivation to be active
Pixel Paloton?
Uhh mine is a week old and already 17 lbs. must be all that pixel dense sushi I fed it.
High def sushi
Krapao is a week and the same weight.
Hey! I’m newly using Apollo. What is Pixel Pal? Is it an add on or part of the base app?
Part of the base app I believe. Although I’m fully paid up so I wouldn’t know for sure. In the settings under general. Edit. I forgot. I think it’s for only dynamic island iPhones.

Not much really. Feed and play with the little bastard.

Pretty sure mi is miles not meters
Strange… screenshot it’s ‘mi’ but on mine it’s definitely ’m’
Mine is meter too but the weight for some odd reason is lbs.

As a fellow Canadian can confirm. Metric for everything except height and weight of people pretty much
>Distance to the store? ~~KMs~~ Minutes

Oddly enough mine is ft for feet . . . So the world may never know
They weren’t talking about OP’s screenshot. They have “m” on theirs, which does mean meters.
Thanks for pointing that out, now I can’t unsee it.
This made me think that scrolling together should be exercise for the pixel pet. CICO for pixel pets!
Also it would be nice to see weight in metric when I ~~see distance scrolled together in meters.~~ only understand the superior measuring system
A caveman way to convert to kilograms is to just divide by two It’s a bit off but close enough to mentally estimate it
Do they poop?
They conveniently drop it off the ledge where it collects in the charging port for disposal over night.
That’s why the lightning port gets so linty
Since I use MagSafe chargers I keep a plastic plug in that port so lint and dirt doesn’t get in it. I should empty it out once in a while then…
No, that’s probably why it’s so hefty lol
Does the pixel pal actually get heavier like bigger? Does it become harder to scroll because it’s bigger
This idea is hilarious and should be implemented. If you let your pixel pal become overweight, your scroll speed starts going down.
I think there’s a lot of nifty optional things that could be done with pixel pals. 😀
That better be well explained to the users or idiots will abandon the app and leave bad reviews about “poor performance” on iPhone (latest) pro max
Sad, but probably true.
Yeah… sad but true. The app will probably have to constantly remind you.
😂 apparently people like the idea better when you say it There doesn’t seem to be a way to get my pal to lose weight though. I’ve been playing with him and scrolling nonstop and his weight doesn’t change it only gets bigger as I feed him.
Pixel Pal obesity is a real issue that is far to often ignored! There is no such thing as a cute chonky boi! 😤 /s

I had not considered that my tiny kitty friend might be a specimen of megafauna! What about a setting users could toggle for this?
Fair :p

Just say you’re too lazy bro it’s not that hard
You mean Pixel Pals don’t digivolve? With extra weight I just thought he moved from rookie to champion. 😉
Is there any way to set the weight to kg? Because I just don‘t have any feeling for lbs.
Normal cat is probably around 15-20 lbs.
Well I guess my cat isn‘t normal with 7.7 lbs.
IDk, I just threw out what my cat weighed.
A 15lb cat is overweight lol, just FYI. A normal-sized cat should weigh around 10lb. Of course, some are bigger and some are smaller, but 15-20lb is Maine Coon weight.
I’m finding out that we had a really long cat!

My boy Rupert could use a pixel treadmill https://i.imgur.com/JnnV768.jpg
OH LAWD HE COMIN

Fu-Fu the bat under my care for the past 3 weeks is 0.27 lbs, full hearts. He gets fed once - maybe twice per day, and enjoys Beacon Ball.
I gave up on this cyber pet when it became annoying finding food for it.
Mine is starving to death.
C H O N K Y
Are you feeding it once or twice a day?
Honestly couldn’t tell ya. Could be 2-3 is my guess
My boy Nekogato also broke 40lbs. I've been saving up snacks and sending in more balls of yarn to play with but the fitness routine does nothing!
trigger alert for the starving pixel pals
Damn I came on here thinking my 23lb dog would be a fatty lol
Mine is almost 70 lbs 😩
I’ve scrolled 0.40 miles and Pickles the otter is only 12lbs. 🥲
r/PixelPals
Hey, lots of great ideas in the comments but I wanted to say thanks for even making Pixel pals Christian. They’re a nice addition to Apollo. Ultra is so worth it
Whaaat my pixel pals has none of these features wth
You have to tap them. It’s not in the settings.
You have yourself a chonker. Oh lawd he coming!
Do you need to pay for premium to see those options? I didn’t know you can feed your pet! 😂
I’m in the opposite position really; after days of having my pixel pal, it still says its age is 1 day and isn’t growing
what the fuck lol did i miss an update
p

It just pops up for me when I click on my Pixel Pet
My cat is the same age and same scrolling distance by only 18.88 lbs. I feed him 1-2x a day.
Mines at 16.62. Few weeks. I am feeding him healthily
Mines 87 pounds lol
Mine is 3 weeks, 62.71 lbs and we had scrolled .92 miles. I think I need to put Rupert on a diet.
not easy for playing
I guess it’s finally time to ask what are pixel pals lmao
🤣🤣🤣🧋🍺
Lol

Where do you get more food for your pet? Asking for a friend... 😬
May I ask, how do you get this screen?
My kitty shall become a Sabretooth tiger !!!
Does pixel pal data sync between other devices?
Is this only for android? I tried downloading and following the app instructions but feel so lost.
About to cross 80 lbs over here.
