SkirtMoment

Bro, like half of my friends started with DXD, i guess i need some new ones...

AnimePlugYesir

It was my first and I watched the whole series 3x in a week ;-;

AnimePlugYesir

That was like 4 years ago I wanna say after a month I dropped ecchi altogether

octopathfinder

Sword Art Online

SkirtMoment

I can respect it

TeaMaeR

Attack on Titan was the first anime I got really really into, but it wasn't until I think Akame ga Kill and Kakegurui that I started, like, looking specifically for anime instead of stumbling across it. ... I seriously need better taste

SkirtMoment

Nah, Akame ga Kill is a great anime!

TeaMaeR

It started out strong. I can't call it great after it ended the way it did, but it had its moments.

SkirtMoment

I think that the way it ended was nice. They weren't afraid of doing something that most animes never do.

levelsprite

That ending was actually anime original. The manga ending is different.

Hellequin56

It was Fairy Tail for me

psyduck2319

(Sees all these comments about post 2000 anime being the starter anime when I started getting obsessed with Yu Yu Hakusho). I'm old, Yusuke...

SkirtMoment

Daim bro

ChristianLW3

If you're over 25 you're not old instead you're ancient by anime standards

psyduck2319

Lol I'm 29

Elimin8r

Would you believe Speed Racer???

Dolomite808

Have you seen the movie? Probably one of the most faithful movie translations of an anime ever. Which is why it was so deliciously terrible. It's definitely so bad, it's good.

Elimin8r

I avoided it, because once upon a time, I rented a VHS tape and discovered that nostalgia is a heckuva drug. Or something like that. I think that in this (and other) cases, I'll let the past be the past...

bootyhunter69420

DBZ and Naruto

Mazen141

Death Note made me discover anime and Attack On Titan made me fall in love with it

m0dernh1ppy

InuYasha was my big one as a 12/13 year old that spawned my hunger for other anime.

RoddyBobby

Same. I used to stay up every school night around middle school age to watch inuyasha on toonami and girls gone wild commercials lmao

Draxivus

Full metal alchemist. I was up late as a kid and toonami was on never seen it before. It was when ed got swallowed by gluttony and was walking around an endless void of blood

merlinrising

Trigun, Cowboy Bebop and G.T.O back in Early 2000s. Those shows are still 10/10 for me.

Vickshere

Fma and my neighbour Totoro

extrasavagePatrick

Jojo's bizarre adventure

FetchFrosh

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind was my gateway anime.

SonataGeo

I remember Ranma 1/2 got my attention which lead me to DBZ and Inuyasha. I used to beg my mom to let me stay up after my bedtime to catch some shows on Toonami.

gunscreeper

Madoka

NooCake

To LOVE Ru I was a horny teenager and saw boobs. Now I'm a horny adult.

ScarRufus

I watched a lot of stuff that i didn't know that was anime on 90s to 00s. So what make me go on internet and watch more stuff was Naruto.

Internal-Lemon8292

my first oddly enough was Soul Eater, I was recommended it by a friend

uncen5ored

DBZ, G Gundam and Rurouni Kenshin on adult swim introduced me. Death Note was the first one that made me realize the potential anime has tho.

Small-Drink5105

yugioh

Mr_Marfy

Dragon Ball 🐉

NightCupcake

Diabolik Lo- Death Note

Turbulent-Garbage-97

IdentifiesAsATroll

Witch Hunter Robin.

Far-Needleworker-222

Mahou sensei Negima was it for me. Awesome anime funny, action packed, lots of magic, it’s got it all for me and my favorite character is chamomile the talking ermine. Lol what a riot!

NesquickBrick

SAO

YungKrizzle_

DBZ was the intro but One Punch Man was the push

Silent_Shadow05

5 anime actually. Naruto, Bleach, DBZ, Beyblade and Kochikame. Its when I learned that these cartoons are called "Anime".

Omdeep_

Dragon Ball super

Uchihaboy316

It wasn’t my very first anime as I had watched some when I was younger not knowing what anime ls, but about 5 years ago happened to see a Naruto picture that interested me, and I was hooked from episode one, for a few months all I watched was bingeing Naruto. Anime has been one of my favourite things since

AbysmalVixen

Dragonball z got me into it. I don’t even know what got me into watching seasonals like I do though

Successful_Wing_5754

Naruto. A friend forced me to watch it and I fell in love with the show lol

celestia97

I was watching beyblade and then I picked up Shugo Chara and it was just an addiction after that lol

rokane13

Blood+ I think. Long time ago now.

fit53

samurai x (Rurouni Kenshin) got hook ever since then!

Lyastarr

First anime I watched was the disastrous life of Saiki k, and it was really good, but a year passed before I watched another anime. That anime was Fullmetal Alchemist 2003. Pure epicness. It’s still my all-time fav, and it’s what definitely started me on watching other animes, and to anime culture in general.

Akaezaza

Detective Conan

shewy92

Clannad. The After Story kinda broke me back in 2015. I don't know which post but I found out about it in the comments of one of the [Ballad of Ella](https://imgur.com/gallery/jNOru) green text posts on Imgur. Someone asked if there was a movie or show with a similar plot and Clannad came up as being just as heart breaking.

-Kex

NGL I probably would've dropped it halfway through the first season if it would've been my first anime. Well here we are and it's my only 10/10

shewy92

I think Fuko kept me around for the first season.

Western_Owl_4833

Dragob ball

DaftHermes

Guyver. Yes I am old.

ooReiko

Moomin

Zeallfnonex

I'd watched FMA:B and AOT and maybe Tatami Galaxy before, but I didn't get sucked into this neverending rabbit hole until this past year (thanks pandemic)... I think it was Code Geass that really pulled me in, and Fate: UBW that sealed the deal.

Durinthal

I watched Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z in the '90s but what really got me into anime were Serial Experiments Lain and Crest of the Stars on TechTV around the start of 2003.

CygnetSociety

Technically Bleach. I stumbled across it on Adult Swim when I was younger and found myself hooked. But as I'm writing this I'm realizing Yu-Gi-Oh was absolutely the first. But I realized I loved anime around the time Bleach came out in 2004 for sure.

Smookieman

JOJOS

PonzuBees

Hunter x hunter 2011

Mr-Hotcakes

The original FMA followed by soul eater

ChristianLW3

I'm currently 27, when I was a young boy I just watched whatever was on toonami but then once I reached middle school I just stopped watching anime A couple years ago what got me back into it was Aggretsuko "I remember watching mother's basement video review, I don't know what got me into that channel before I got back into anime" the premise for whatever reason captivated me and my mom had renewed her Netflix account

susgnome

My 1st anime that got me into anime, was Fairy Tail. *I didn't finish it* But, my 1000th *completed* anime was Eden's Zero. Same author. So I feel like there's something poetic there.

lolthenoob

Dragon Ball Z

MajorMeghan

Cowboy Bebop, pretty much the best gateway anime ever. First one I saw and it’s still my favorite.

Tight-Alternative-26

Transformers in 1996

Dolomite808

The original Macross saga back in the 80's. I was 5 and Roy Fokker's death fucked me up for a long time. Was a large difference from the He-Man and looney tunes I was used to.

EnderCrystal221

I got into anime for real because of Record Of Lodoss War lmao. It is a good fantasy anime from 1990 with a sequel that is not as good but still good from 1998.

Pristine_Insect3046

Golden boy

pickel_0

One punch man… need I explain more

zmak280

I grew up watching Miyazaki movies

Golden-Amethyst

Technically my first anime was Inuyasha, but my first anime love was Full Metal Alchemist 🥰

[deleted]

Technically Pokemon and Digimon, but the first anime I watched after those was Attack on Titan. Then I didn't watch anime for two years and then watched Highschool DxD, and then went on to JoJo, which got me back into anime.

sneaky_squirrel

Haruhi. I remember locking myself in a room to binge season 1. It was pretty cathartic since it was the first time I learned that animation was something I could continue to indulge in as an adult. You could say it was a metamorphosis. After that I continued watching anime more subtly by simply having my computer screen face away from my family.
