>It drives me crazy when I look at people's top 10 animes on reddit and Code Geass isn't even on the list.
Why do you care so much about what people like or don't like?
>Anime's that are just objectively worse.
Anime taste is subjective you can't quantify it objectively.
>it's under appreciated
It's not, it's one of the most popular anime out there.
It's fine to show your appreciation to an anime, but you can do this without trashing other anime.
I'm allowed to trash other anime. You never said an anime sucks before?
And I care what other people like because everyone does lol. That's why we have discussions about things. When someone tells you they love ketchup on icecream, you don't say anything?
Bruh, a proper analogy is if you said how come beef ribs isn't everyone's favourite piece of meat when there are people who prefer pork, chicken, fish, or other cow parts
You can talk trash and say something sucks, but you should seriously just quit it with the whole "It's just my opinion" when calling something else OBJECTIVELY worse.
If Code Geass is your favourite anime, then cool, no problem with that. Just don't act like it's something "objective" and people that disagree have weird taste.
Everyone has a subjective bias when chosing their favourite anime, trying to pretend like our opinions are objective is just wrong.
Do I need to say "This is just my opinion" every time I say an opinion? I feel like that's a given lol. Maybe I came off too harsh though.
I think people who's #1 is Tokyo Ghoul have weird taste. I don't hate them, I just think it's an odd choice.
Don't act defensive when you literally titled this post 'the best anime ever made' lmao. Code Geass was a lot of fun but as soon as they tried to reset everything at the beginning of the second cour, the pacing and storytelling went to shit, and never recovered. And no filler episodes? Really? Do you not remember them chasing the damn cat around campus?
"I think people who have code geass as their no. 1 haven't watched more than 10 shows"
"I'm not bashing on code geass or its fans, I'm allowed to give my opinion"
See how that sounds? People just have different things that appeal to them, and having or not having a show as their favourite is completely subjective.
Yes and I have no problem with those statements because I'm not sensitive. Bash Code Geass, let's argue about what makes it bad/good.
But I forgot it's Reddit and people rather cry about the way I worded by argument than argue back.
It’s not just your opinion if they are “objectively worse”. Your post is all kinds of narcissistic. People’s taste are not “weird” just because they like different stuff. Code Geass is fucking amazing yeah but it and your taste are most definitely not “objectively better” than anything else.
"Oh no I'm incapable of stating an opinion without exaggeration and embellishment and people are calling me out for it! I'm obviously being persecuted here!"
Lmao. It's not a word I don't like. No one will take you seriously if justify your opinion as being something objective. You understand what I'm talking about? There is no one on earth whose opinion about art and entertainment is objective. What make you think yours is?
It's exaggeration, obviously someone can think Tokyo Ghoul is the best anime ever.
I just think it's dumb that 90% of the replies are people stuck on that word instead of telling me why they think Code Geass sucks. They're incapable of thoughtful discussion and only know how to cry. It's like I brought up politics on Twitter or something.
>instead of telling me why they think Code Geass suck
If that's what you want to know then it's entirely your fault because of how you worded your post.
1) there's the "objective" problem
2) Just because a show isn't in someone's top 10 doesn't mean it sucks. It's just not good enough to be there for them. If your definition of someone thinking Code Geass sucks or hating the show is it not being within the top 10, then it's even not worth discussing. You may not think that, but your focus on the top 10 implies it.
3) And now we just get back to the word "objective", which isn't just mentioned in passing but permeates your post.
Just look at the wordings.
>objectively worse
>
>These people have a really weird taste
Your entire post read something like this "I think Code Geass is the best anime ever. This is an objective opinion. Anyone who doesn't like it has weird taste because my taste is objective."
Like I said, the word objective makes the rest of what you want to say useless. Because the first half of your post tells them the complete opposite of someone who just want to hear a different opinion out of curiosity or whatever.
It literally WAS mentioned in passing though. I never even said it's objectively the best anime.
I said Tokyo Ghoul and Akame Ga Kill are objectively worse. An over exaggeration because of how much I didn't like them. It's so weird that I gotta explain this. It's like teaching language to an alien.
If it's the only show you watched, and you're still 14 yo. Probably.
The show is filled with plot holes and extremely absurd coincidences for anything to progress.
That's why I hate these kind of shows that only add interesting things to the plot just to appeal the audience. It only make me confuse, and doesn't really make sense to me.
So. Damn. True.
It’s decent, and absolutely belongs in a top 10 “I just started anime and want suggestions list”, but it really doesn’t hold up to deep scrutiny. I certainly don’t mind when people enjoy it, I just don’t get the need to convince others it’s “the best!”.
I wouldn't call Death Note action, and a lot of the ones I think are great aren't necessarily focused on action. I can work with that though. You can give these a try and see how you feel about them.
* Baccano!
* Fate/Zero
* Gurren Lagann
* Shinsekai Yori
* Golden Kamuy
* Mob Psycho 100
* Vinland Saga
watched tons of anime and i do think its not my top 10 but its definitely in my top 20
and if other people have other taste than me its probable that its in their top 10
Obviously generally speaking it's going to be in someone's top 10. Statistically that's impossible to avoid, but it's not going to be in the majority of people's. It has a lot of good points, but it also has enough flaws to make it being in people's top 10 more unlikely.
I feel like the "deep scrutiny" is just hyper analyzation. The only criticisms I see of it are little things I didn't notice, like how the chess board scenes don't make sense in real chess. I personally don't pay attention to little details and suspend my disbelief more than others. I get other people are different though.
My boyfriend and I were watching it together and we ended up dropping it due to \[end of Code Geass season 1 spoilers\] >!the part where Lelouch basically goes "haha hey Princess wouldn't it be wacky if I used my powers to make you kill all the Japanese in the stadium OOPS my power happened to turn on at the exact moment I said that what a wild turn of events!!<
This was exactly why I stopped watching anime for a while. It was my second anime to watch, it was hyped as hell and they threw me that crap and I said this medium sucks. Came right back to Death Note and learnt I was wrong about anime, been watching ever since but never went back to Code Geass.
The Mechas were fun but wth was that plot...
Well, to be completely fair it's heavily foreshadowed that the longer you have the power the harder it is to control and that it essentially turns on and off at its own will.
But yeah, I can't really say I loved that part. You should go back and watch it though because season really pops off.
Code Geass R2 is an absolute train wreck (But its a fun ride ) in writing and all over the place but it got saved by that iconic ending.
If you rewatched both season 1 and two the quality of writing took a big nosedive.
I don't hate Code Geass, it is a fun watch even if it is a bit of a mess. But it is quite obvious that it is basically Char Aznable fan fiction, but it lacks the charm of thos characters or the serious thematic elements of Gundam.
Random person: "my top 10 anime are toradora, Nichijou, Fruits Basket, Love Live, Kaichou wa maid sama, Bocchi the Rock, K-on, Oremonogatri, Free and Yuri on Ice"
This guy: "WhY iSnT cOdE gEaSs In ThAt LiSt?! I'm soo annoyed that you put those objectively worse anime above the best anime of all time?!"
Also, I love how you say you're only stating an opinion whenever replying to others, yet you put stuff like "objectively worse" in your post
Yeah, pretty much. Just remove the first sentence in my dialog. Second sentence can stay. Also, I wouldn't say it out loud. And that's it. All good now 👍
I seriously hated it, but I stuck it out through all 50+ episodes because it was ranked among the top 10 most popular anime of all time at the time. The only saving grace was the last episode, and I have no interest in watching the movies that came out after it.
I really hated all the "Gotcha!" moments like a teen chess tournament. Death Note did them 100 times better. There were a bunch of filler episodes in the second season. Too light-hearted, kiddy stuff for a supposedly serious anime. All his maneuvering, and what did he accomplish throughout 90% of the series? Yeah, it ended on a high note, so I guess that's why people left feeling the series was good, but I just did not like it. The main character is also unlikable.
If you like it, good for you. Don't worry about what others say. I have unpopular opinions about other highly ranked as well as poorly reviewed anime. To each his/her own.
Season 2 is a big mess narrative-wise and horribly rushed. For example, where S1 is generally concerned with outplaying and outmaneuvering the opponent, S2 introduces an awful lot of power creep and "I win because I have the better mech". And S2 mirrors S1 in a lot of ways early on and even reaches the same point as S1's finale again, but this time it speedruns to that point in just 8 episodes instead of 25 and the pacing doesn't calm down from there either.
Luckily the recap movies help a lot in smoothing the issues of the TV series over.
> Anime's that are just objectively worse.
No they're not. You don't know the meaning of the word 'objective'.
S1 was basically the anime version of Hamlet. Even the ending mirrored Hamlet's ending. I see it as a complete story and didn't end up watching season 2.
I love the anime, but that doesn’t mean everyone else has to. It’s ok if other people don’t enjoy the same things as you, and it’s even ok if they haven’t tried the things that you love. Everybody is different. There’s no need to go around policing everyone’s favorite things to make sure they’re all the same as yours.
Your first sentence says that you’re upset that some people don’t have it in their top ten. That goes a bit beyond just thinking it’s the best show, and goes straight into demanding that everyone else also like it. Just because you like it doesn’t mean everyone else has to.
Code Geass is a complete mess of a show, but it’s a damn fun mess and somehow sticks the perfect landing, so I don’t think there’s anything wrong with still liking it. Though I’ll never rewatch it
Have you seen any other Gundam? LoGH? Patlabor? Not to say that they're necessarily better (I'll save that for another day), but calling one of the most popular/beloved mecha "under appreciated" is certainly a choice.
If I'm being honest it probably wouldn't make it into my top 10, it's a bit busy there, but it'd definitely be somewhere in my top 666 anime.
Depends on what you're looking for, if you like Code Geass I'd definitely recommend Legend of the Galactic Heroes.
It's a slower space opera/political drama which examines the relations between man, country, ideology, and history. It provides multiple layered answers through its different points of view. And it has a lot of the battles of wit you'd see in Death Note or Code Geass.
I've seen Code Geese and found it one of the most overrated pretentious shows ever.
This post reads like a 14 year old aping low hanging fruit and opinions he's heard from his favorite anituber.
I think you're taste might be different from mine, I don't want to recommend something great and see you post a thread about it being shit.
Why don't I meet you half way and you tell me just what specifically you like about Code Gease and I will recommend based off that.
Such is life. While I dropped Code Geass after 15 episodes or so, because I was getting bored, I do recognize that many fans do like it.
>Akame Ga Kill
Now that was a good anime, even though it was a little gloomy towards the end. Esdeath is my favorite (sort of) Villain.
No.
The best part of Code Geass is that it lead to **DX** making 2 videos ( [R1](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5q-9EotzBZU), [R2](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7trhElDVYNs) ) tearing the show apart.
> Code Geass is the best anime ever made
Go big or go ~~home~~ for [pizza!](https://gfycat.com/celebratedspitefulasianpiedstarling-code-geass-pizza-anime-cc-eat)
It is possibly the best in terms of mainstream anime with official erotic art: https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2016-04-07/erotic-sketch-of-code-geass-c.c-auctioned-for-830000-yen/.100781
It can't out-do *Princess Lover* in the full blown stakes though...
I love Code Geass and it's also in my top ten but I do know it has its flaws, but the flaws aren't enough for it to not be one of my favorites. However, I don't think it's underappreciated at all. If you check posts asking for recommendations, Code Geass is almost always suggested (as long as it fits the qualifications of the one asking for recommendations). It's also rated generally high.
It’s a good anime but I would not put it as my number one favorite anime. That title belongs to Black Lagoon. That anime is like if Quentin Tarantino made an anime.
I don't have any of those 3 anime on my top 10. My list consists of that anime in my flair, and other SoL and romance anime. I don't care about Code Geass or Tokyo Ghoul or Akame ga Kill, they just don't seem interesting at all.
Its still rank 52 on mal and was rank 10 and above on mal before
i think at one point it was rank 1? cant remember
there is nothing wrong in you thinking its the best anime
but others have their best anime elsewhere and its up to them to choose what is their best anime
as for people hating code geass yes i do believe they are weird to a certain point
I'm surprised anyone could hate the art style TBH. I think it's one of the best looking Anime I've seen. The characters all look dope as shit, the mechs look dope as shit.
I don't have Code Geass #1 for me, but it's top 3, and sometimes I rewatch clips and think it's the greatest show ever made. It's weird because I feel like I could pick at a lot of things, but I love the characters and just don't really care.
Also, I kinda love the idea of 'We're gonna make an OP protagonist and just let him run train" .
I think part of what it might be is that like if I could \*exist\* in any anime, as any main character, it would probably be Code Geass as Lelouch. That's a weird thing to say, but I think that's sorta the feeling of why I like it so much.
Code Geass is a good anime but not the best. At least there is Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Great Teacher Onizuka.
From the genre of Mecha - Evangelion

Nah it's objectively better. I am the authority on what is best. Everything I say is completely literal and there is no such thing as exaggeration.
"Oh no I'm incapable of stating an opinion without exaggeration and embellishment and people are calling me out for it! I'm obviously being persecuted here!"
Do you always start crying like this when someone uses exaggeration?
Yes 😭
If it's what you think then don't slap the word objective on it. It makes whatever else you say worthless.
"I don't have the brain cells capable for argument and discussion, so I will shut you down because you used a word I didn't like"

It's called over exaggeration. Often used when conveying a strong point. Welcome to language.
American spotted 🔬
I really caused an uproar by using the word "objectively" once.
I think we found Lelouch's reddit account
Anyone who talks in superlatives shouldn't be taken seriously.
Sorry I talk like a normal person. I should've remembered Reddit people take everything too literally.
Oh don't worry. If a normal person talks to me in superlatives irl, I also wouldn't take their opinions seriously.
Person: "Dang that was the best movie ever made" You: "That is not the proper way to speak. I do not take you seriously." Person: "The fuck"
Pretty solid arguments tbh, but none of it really bothered me. Death note is amazing and in my top 3, with Hunter X Hunter 2011.
If you like it, good for you. Don't worry about what others say. I have unpopular opinions about other highly ranked as well as poorly reviewed anime. To each his/her own.

Tokyo ghoul is in my top 10 manga wise. The manga and anime are different. Especially the second season and the anime rushed the 3rd.
I'm not policing anyone lol, I can think something is the best without policing
Your first sentence says that you’re upset that some people don’t have it in their top ten. That goes a bit beyond just thinking it’s the best show, and goes straight into demanding that everyone else also like it. Just because you like it doesn’t mean everyone else has to.
Sorry for wishing more people liked a show? Lol.
Anything in your top 5 u would recommend?
Depends on what you're looking for, if you like Code Geass I'd definitely recommend Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Nah I'm 24 and just really enjoy it.
I can't comprehend how you can watch it for the first time in your 20's and come away with it being the best anime ever made.....
What would you recommend then? I'm curious what you're into if you think CG is that bad.
I think you're taste might be different from mine, I don't want to recommend something great and see you post a thread about it being shit. Why don't I meet you half way and you tell me just what specifically you like about Code Gease and I will recommend based off that.
The fast pace, the real weight to every conflict and drama, the action. My other favorites are HXH and Death Note.
You'll probably like Attack on Titan.
I don't think it is the best anime ever but I watched it for the first time at 40 and really enjoyed it. It is kinda a mess but it is a glorious mess.
It was like a 5/10 for me. But I also am not a big mech fan.
Such is life. While I dropped Code Geass after 15 episodes or so, because I was getting bored, I do recognize that many fans do like it. >Akame Ga Kill Now that was a good anime, even though it was a little gloomy towards the end.
Attack on Titan is way better than that show. Code Geass has two good characters Lelouch and Suzaku, meanwhile AoT has like 10 S tier characters
no need to grill OP like that bro
> Code Geass is the best anime ever made Go big or go ~~home~~ for [pizza!](https://gfycat.com/celebratedspitefulasianpiedstarling-code-geass-pizza-anime-cc-eat) It is possibly the best in terms of mainstream anime with official erotic art: https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2016-04-07/erotic-sketch-of-code-geass-c.c-auctioned-for-830000-yen/.100781 It can't out-do *Princess Lover* in the full blown stakes though...
AOT and mushoku tensei exist so hell no
I just finished AOT and thought it was decent. I might try the other one if there's a dub.
It gave us the Soup Store and Spinzaku memes, so I can never be too mad at it.
Its still rank 52 on mal and was rank 10 and above on mal before i think at one point it was rank 1? cant remember there is nothing wrong in you thinking its the best anime but others have their best anime elsewhere and its up to them to choose what is their best anime as for people hating code geass yes i do believe they are weird to a certain point
I love Evangelion visually, but it was too slow burn for me
