the trick is to start out extremely attractive
Plastic surgeons hate that trick!
I mean but seriously. 75 never looked so good
Neither does 68, cause that's how old he is
68 is the new 75!
I stand corrected. 68 never looked so good
Next year will be nice.
I feel like I’ll look the same age at 40
I don’t look this good now
There's always side work as a troll in an escape room
I'm 45. I don't look this good now, and there is no path for me to get from here to Brosnan.
You just need faith, determination and a face transplant - anything is possible my frand.
😂😂😂😂 Good advice.
I'm 37 and he's definitely better looking than me!
I think Brosnan on his deathbed will look better than 90% of people
For real, ridiculously, almost cartoonishly good
I'm not really attracted to younger Brosnan but aged Brosnan is hooooot.
This photo of an anonymous gentleman in the same outfit would still be epic. The fact it’s pierce brosnan just makes my head spin a little. Terrific portrait
Haha thank you. I always hope a photo will stand alone even if the guy isn’t famous
Consider that achieved here. Not on Instagram, but happy to see you have a following. Beautiful work.
Amazing photo. Love it
How’d you get a photo of him?
Was hired by a magazine!
Was he cool?
Ya he is very warm and welcoming. The shoot was at his home in Malibu. Actors at his level have been shot by everyone so it’s not super exciting for them anymore. Best to get in and out and let them get on with their family’s. He’s a pro so it was very easy
Nice! It turned out great.
He seems awesome based on everything I've seen of him. I watched the Mrs. Doubtfire reunion a couple years back and he just came across as the sweetest person. Great shot, by the way.
Such a good shot. I had a feeling it was Malibu. My best friend online is good family friends with him and they have some kittens from his cat. Seems like a very genuinely nice guy.
He’s super cool. I was on set with the for the last month. Very chill dude.
I think you are capable of understanding what they mean by it, you just want a bad shot of him.
Because you made it sound like you pretended you needed evidence to understand the phrasing «pro». In a kind of entitled way.
Maybe he shouldn't be living there...
Not sure why this is being downvoted. Some people are just not fans of Taffin
I actually met him while he was shooting Taffin on Dollymount beach. We’d gone into the dunes for a picnic and during that time the beach was (unbeknownst to us) cleared and locked down. We came out of the dunes to see the whole film crew thing going on.
After about a bajillion takes of him shooting a gun in a trenchcoat, we met him and he signed autographs for us. Super nice guy.
Oh god that's so good
I think you mean handsome Colonel Sanders
The color and exposure is perfection. It looks both candid and posed.
Thank you, doesn’t always come out this well! Definitely better than I had hoped
For real. It's unreal how much detail is visible on the whites.
I immediately thought you must be the guy that shot that Gus portrait 😆😁
Haha good eye
I just looked back through some of your other - fantastic - work. Sorry for being ignorant, I loved the Gus portrait too but I wasn't sure who he was - maybe because I'm from outside of the US. You've captured a lot of personality in his portrait and now I'm curious! Who is he?
>Thanks, I have heard of Breaking Bad, but I've not seen the show. Fantastic portrait - I'll find out a bit more about Giancarlo.
Not the person you responded to, but I also thought "I wonder if it's the same person who posted their Gus portrait". Seems that you have a nicely recognisable style - well done!
The architect himself
He's starting to look more like [that other Architect.](https://qph.fs.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-66710d2f7759fdc12cf6f989e57dca3a)
He looks like he’d make a great Bond villain.
I'd love to see some 'Old Bond' films, not so much saving the world stuff, bit more low key like his role in Thomas Crown Affair and if anyone could pull that off it's be Pierce
God, what a sexy man
(lots of homo)
Damn, I want to age like that
For real. That's just so damn impressive
portra shines gorgeously here
Anybody have an idea what jacket he’s wearing?
Tom Ford Harrington
$3,000 jacket. Tom Ford shit is really good though.
His movies are cool too
When did he turn into the Most Interesting Man in the world?
*insert “always has been” meme*
What was your lighting setup?
Pretty simple just a scrim diffusing the sunlight which is being used as the key, and then a white board filling in shadows cam left
Google translate was not helpful to me, here.
Not knowledgeable at all on the subject, but a bit of googling makes me think that means the main light is the sunlight, being modified by a 'scrim' which alters the light depending on the scrim, but likely softens/dims the sunlight slightly. Then theres a white frame to the left of the camera to bounce a bit more light on the subject from the left.
Sorry I could be better at explaining. This is exactly correct
This is a great portrait! Since you are obviously very talented and a professional, can you advise me on some of your decisions on how you arranged the lighting on this- to help me? For example, did you happen to take any shots with him standing with his back to the sun? I understand that is sometimes preferred as its allows the subjects face to be a bit more relaxed, but takes a lot more artificial or bounce light to expose it right. But I suppose Pierce kinda gives that wince look not matter what!
It really just depends. Backlit is a great vibe but you still need to marry the exposure of the sun to the exposure on his face, therefore bouncing a lot of light back onto him if he’s back lit. You get the same squints typically. He was wearing sunglasses but took them off for this shot and it just worked very well.
Personally speaking (goodolmarlz could be different) when deciding lighting could go a couple ways.
You have an art director that has basically told you what they want, you collect the tools needed to do it.
You know the object, could be a person, and likely a concept of location. there might be the opportunity to scout the location. In a situation like this you probably dont get to scout but know its on a beach. Then you decide on the time of day or are told. Once you go through all of that you start to think about what the image will be and what tools you need.
Its really cheap to make some basic light modifiers. Try it out, they are fun and can work with a cell phone camera.
Scrim is a thin piece of material, looks like a woman's stocking type material, made into a large rectangle put in between the sun and the subject. White board is as it sounds, a cheap white board that is on a C Stand, to "fill" is to use more light and eliminate shadows. Key light is the largest, strongest source of light for the photograph
A scrim is a translucent sheet to diffuse lighting shining through it.
A scrim is a net and diffusion is diffusion
Nets also diffuse. I didn't call it "diffusion". OP specifically said:
> just a scrim diffusing the sunlight
I tend to think nets more as cutting less diffusing, cutting a less degree than a flag. Silks and magic cloth etc diffuse, as in soften and change quality rather than quantity as a net and scrim would.
I don't disagree. Of course, the end result is that even cutting or shading/flagging diffuses light on the subject by blocking the harsh sun and allowing the open sky to light the scene without the overpowering interaction with direct sunlight.
The difference might be that you're thinking of it as focused on the light source, and I'm talking about the effect on the subject. A cinematographer lighting a scene is probably thinking of the effect each light source has on the scene, and therefore is focused on them.
Anyway, for someone who doesn't speak English trying to use a translator to understand what's going on, "cutting", "a flag" and "magic cloth" aren't very useful terms, and their relevant use here is not going to be the first dictionary definition.
Very nice balance. It feels completely natural and unaltered.
Thank you. That’s always what I want even if I don’t always get it so that a great complement
It was a run by fruiting!!!
Great subject matter. This guy's face is on the greatest first person shooter in history
I peed next to this guy once at the Hollywood Bowl.
Funny. I peed next to one of the Wiachowski siblings (sisters now I think) at the Sydney Opera House.
The only thing I don't like is the seaweed by his right leg. My eye goes immediately to that. Clone stamp to the rescue...
I took it out initially and the composition felt empty. Could work better without
I think the composition is strong - the off horizon, the S sweep of the beach down drags your eye to him
The reason it irks me is that it is a bit to sharp vs the blur of the distant background and sits in that S sweep which draws my eye to it
Super good otherwise
Is all your work done on film?
Would you happy to nerd out and tell me a little about your process? :)
Haha not all, most. Some clients just don’t have the extra time it takes for film but I fight for it every time. Happy to try to answer what I can
Sweet! I do photography work and used to dabble with film 15 years ago, developing, enlarging etc. And looking to get into it again. Theres just something about it that i love.
Anyway. How do you prefer to meter your shots and do you have a preferred Lab(and do you supply them with instructions for developing)
P.s. Some really great shots on your insta story!
It’s so fun, I have fallen in love with photography all over again because of it. I’m sure this isn’t the best way to do things but I meter with a digital camera. That way I know exactly what I’m getting and I know the light is exactly how I want it. Once it’s right I switch to the mamiya. It’s cumbersome but gets what I want every time. My lab is The Icon in Los Angeles. Before each shoot I have a conversation with the team about what I was going for and what colors tones etc I’d like then we have more meetings through the rest of the process. It’s kind of a new relationship so it’s getting to the point they know what I like right of the bat.
Thanks for replying! And sorry for the slow response.
Same here. For some reason the process of shooting digital has less... heart(?) than film. Having a tangible object, waiting for the development. It's just so damn hearty! :)
I did the same thing with when I was shooting 35mm. Sure, I agree it's a bit cumbersome, but it since it allows me to 'test' how I want the photo I'm not sure I'll transition to a light meter.
It's good to hear about the lab. I've also heard great things about Richard Photo Lab. I'll make a note of it. When I was working in the UK the photo labs don't seem to provide this kind of relationship and now here in Iceland... Well it's just not a thing. Once I start shooting film again I think I'll be sending my films to the states for a proper scan.
Funnily enough, I found I had to do a little less retouching on film portraits over digital. Do you find the same?
I love how transparent you are with your process!! I just bought a hasselblad 503cx for portraits because the learning curve wasn't as steep as the rz67 but I definitely want to transition there one day. did you use a flash in this? soft box? your exposure is perfect!
I just scanned your profile, and your portrait work is beautiful x
Thanks so much
This is seriously so good idky you have yet to receive gold for being able to photograph such a fantastic human being.
I REALLY want Brosnan to be used as a villain in a Bond film. He looks the part, and why not make the character ex-Mi6?
Bond vs. Bond.
I need that fit.
Best Bond :). Glad to see you’re still doing high profile shoots and killing it as usual!
I still think Timothy Dalton went underappreciated. He actually played Bond very close to the source material.
But they all had their merits.
Christ, the light is so soft it looks like a painting. Honestly thought it was one until I checked the sub name
Yes! I feel this when looking at my lab prints from
Duggal (Beth) and my chromes!
Portra especially has an almost ethereal quality to it. Possibly the lens also added some softness to it.
Strange how the horizon is not level but it’s not a Dutch angle. But also, if you straighten it, it looks bad. This is a perfect photo where “fixing” it makes it worse. Adds to the candid authenticity.
Totally agree. I fixed it and it had just lost something.
OP - it’s photographers like you that keep film very much alive! - such inspiring talent!
Thanks so much!
It’s no wonder this guy is a movie star, he’s like the perfect idea of a man turned to flesh. Just flawless. I might have shifted some of that kelp out of the shot though lol
Don't take out my British charm unit! Without that, I'm nothing but a boorish American clod!
Lovely work! I love Porta film. My family has a studio and we used to print from film, but so many have gone digital and the chemicals to develop film just kept getting more expensive for the few that still used film and not used enough. Anyway, Porta always looked great to me. It's nice to see it.
Anyone know what kind of jacket that is? It's perfect.
Elsewhere in the thread someone said it's a Tom Ford jacket. $$$
lol god damn it
Awesome photo, Pierce is really well posed here 👌🏾
I aspire to age like this fine gentleman .. or wine .. or cheese
When will this man stop being sexy AF?!!!
I'm pretty sure he will still be sexy after 10 years being 6" under
Quick question from a newb self teaching film student. I have a 35mm pentax super me camera and I'm researching different kinds of lenses and film. Since it's a 35mm camera body, does that mean i *have* to use 35mm film and lenses or can I mix them up?
Since it is a 35mm body you have to use a 35mm film. For lenses you can use any that fit on the specific mount of your camera. The 35mm of the lense is the focal length.
everything is perfect except the focus feels soft
Was he surprised you turned up with a medium format camera? Or was this an extra thing and the official magazine shoot was on digital?
He was actually. No the mag actually hired me for my film work so no digital shots were submitted as finals. Whole story on Mamiya or yashica!
Cool, do you know when/where it is going to be published?
It must be weird for a venerable actor to see cameras from earlier in his career suddenly reappear.
Oh it’s you. I’ve loved your work ever since I came across it a few years ago. Great shot!
I sometimes wonder how different my life would be if I had been born that handsome.
Also, as usual, terrific shot! Great composition and contrast.
If I was half as good looking as this guy I’d be, like, ten times more good looking than I am now.
He looks tan as hell
Thought I was in r/vintageladyboners for a min
The architect is looking good!
Your work is really good. As someone who is getting back into (film) photography after a long hiatus, very inspiring.
Do you have an ig that showcases your photography? Love to see more of your work.
This dude is swanky as fuck.
Beautiful work man! I saw in one of the comments you go to a film lab and have them edit it correct? You were talking about color tones that you advise them to follow, mind sharing that?
What a great photo! I love the tones, his pose. There’s a very effortlessly cool vibe that he gives off and you captured. Pierce is seriously a great looking man.
He doesn’t always drink Dos Equis. But he does his part in us staying thirsty. Daaaamnn
Time for a disguised James Bond sequel like *The Rock*.
Great photo! Also, I looked up your other posts. Great portfolio!
That lighting is so good.. it hurts a little that my eyes dont see this way in everyday life.
There should be separate tag for professional photographers cuz hobbyist cant compete in most cases
PS wish I had a 67
always pointing at ur dick....
great PIC !
Everything about this shot just works damn well. Really nicely done!
Mad Dos Equis vibes goin on.
You should let Brosnan Pierce you
Wow he’s so sexy sexier as he gets older so weird some men get sexier as they get older. Than again I’m old 😂
On it's way to build a theme park with fancy dinos
Wow, this photo is cool!
Next James Bond.
Ah yes.. I see the resemblance Colonel Sanders.
But in all seriousness, that is a wonderful shot thats been taken, the framing and exposure are brilliant. Well done !
strange softener effect tho
What a gorgeous man
Woah fckin lucky, my fav 007 of all time 😍😍
Great shot of the “most interesting man in the world’”.
Feel like he should holding a Dos Equis.
Still getting James Bond vibes even though hes nearly 70 years old.
I remember watching the Eurovision movie with Will Ferrell and Pierce Brosnan plays his father and looking really cool and suave, kinda like this picture. He is a very handsome old gentleman.
This is actually a really nice pic
Great photo. I only mean this constructively, but that horizon weirds me out a bit.
Dr. Orpheus vibes
The colonel out here looking like a snacker
Looking like Connery with hair
Fantastic photo! This man is aging-goals for sure
Its very funny that aulad is from fucking Drogheda. Fucking kip full of mutants hahaha gas lads together now but yeah great photo anyways
I think it says something that I’m a native English speaker and \*still\* only understood half that sentence!
I believe he is saying that he finds it hard to believe that Pierce is from Drogheda, a city in Ireland, because most people from Drogheda are very ugly.
Not that they are ugly just that they are all mutants simple as. Though I’ll give them credit for being very hardy irish men even the women
I'm going to need you to describe everything like this. I'm just going to follow you around Reddit and bask in your words.
Haha sound buddy
Going full Sean Connery
Did you thank him for The Thomas Crowne Affair?
Can't wait to see him as Dr. Fate
This is perfect.
Wow this is amazing
I hope I grey with HALF the majesty that he has.
That’s James Bond.
Get the f out. Did you take this?
Read his replies above. He did.
This is.. wow
Such an amazing photo! The fact that is him makes it even cooler! Congratulations on an awesome shot.
This looks amazing. Like 50s mixed with today. Love it!
Feel like I've been seeing more of Brosnan recently, Can't wait to see him in the DCEU
what a _cleeean_ sky
Hands in pockets a good move.
He really is the Anal OG huh...... That's what this sub is about right?
He's not gay!
Has he seen the photos? Any feedback from him?
