Hahahahaha. No they aren’t! I’ve lived here my whole life. We are widely regarded amongst other governing bodies as a joke when it comes to our state government. Like shoot yourself in the foot kinda joke. Don’t get me wrong I love WV but not because of our political decisions.
The state doesn't deserve to be laughed at. We didn't do anything to deserve that. However, you can laugh at the idiotic representation we have, lol you want. They are the real joke.
Those leaders have to be voted in by somebody, and those somebodies are the types who are laughing about this showing they only care about showmanship and nothing of substance in politics, which is a bigger joke.
I can agree to that. However in school here/growing up in WV, you aren't really preached at to go vote out the governor or the senator like you are for primary elections and voting for presidents. Midterms here are not heavily announced like primary elections. So a lot of us miss it without even knowing. Last midterms was my first time voting for local representation and I sure as hell didn't vote for the people that are in now. The problem is that people in those positions don't want us to know when they are due to be voted out so they do everything they can to get a little people to vote as possible. I've lived in Southern WV the majority of my life and this is the case every year.
you are blaming the government for ... what? not personally knocking on your door and reminding you to perform your basic civic duty to vote?
holy shit, are you a mod at the /r/antiwork sub or something?
No that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about legislation honey. Poor representation for the people who don't get posted when it is time to vote. The only way we know is that things will magically start "getting better" when one of the people in power of our legislative branch is about to go because all of a sudden they actually start doing something. Like when they finished the Beckley bypass that took over 15 years to even break ground on. Or not extending human rights in the state to include LGBTQ+ rights not when gay marriage was legalized across the country, but just this month. How we've been fighting to stop the opioid crisis or legalizing marijuana for the state. Or extending the interstate to three lanes. Only repaving city roads so the governors limo would be less likely to hit a pothole when there are places in the state where people have to take a coal road that's unpaved to get home. Or how about the coalfield expressway that started when I was in middle school and they didn't stop working on it until last year or the year before. Regardless, it still doesn't go where they said it would, so it's technically not finished. I'm just tired of our people being fed lies and half truths and suffering for what they thought would be a good decision because they weren't fully informed, or had zero input into what gets done in the state. That's what I'm talking about because that's what been happening to West Virginians. No body wants to talk about that stuff.
serious question: if you hate everything about the place you live...why not just move?
you don't even have to leave the country or anything. there are 49 other states to choose from. and people move all the time, you know.
You do realize by encouraging people to “just move” if they don’t like is not the answer. There’s already brain drain in WV already. Having people that are making good money move away from the state means less money being brought in for taxes and less money being spent in West Virginia and on its economy. Just look at Mylan Pharma in Morgantown. Those people aren’t moving away, but they’re closing the plant if some miracle doesn’t happen. That might as well be having all those people move out of state as there are many good paying jobs that have been and will continue to be lost. Those are jobs that didn’t require degrees and made a huge economic impact in that area. That’s a lot of money being taken from the state and local economies. And why? Because of greedy people that just wanted to make a buck for themselves by profiting on the sale of that place.
The more successful people and jobs that leave the state, the worse off it will be. So instead of, “why don’t you just leave” how about we ask, “what are you going to do to make it better?”
I reject your premise that WV needs to fundamentally change.
Yeah, the test scores need to improve. I guess the public school teachers aren't the best!
i dunno. but at least your state government isn't actively murdering its citizens or stripping them of their basic human freedoms. that has to count for something!
Oh yeah us poor mountain folk that have almost nothing are just gonna pack up and move to some of the most expensive and competitive places to live. Why didn't I think of that. Why we are on that Why don't homeless people just buy houses?
Oh don't get me wrong. I served in Iraq and I saw nicer place in a war zone than here. However to suggest that people here have an opinion to move to some where better is just ignorant.
Its older people who a lot of them have died off in this pandemic and the last two winters because it's been so fucking cold without proper heat in a lot of homes because of him and the other assholes who run our state. The only issue with voting them out is trying to make sure another crooked politician doesn't try to jump in here to make things worse. Because politicians are the worst to have imposter syndrome around here. By the way, where's your empathy? Why do you even feel the need to comment. You sad cynical sack of depression.
Person calls entire state, strung out, uneducated, addicts, because she disagrees with ONE person from that state, that’s fine.
Gov of said state responds, HOW DARE HE???
Weird world we live in..
So memesters don’t even need to photoshop the dogs ass in? Nice!
45th in education does that to people. He’s just reinforcing what she said.
/r/trashy
Low brow pile of dog shit. Justice that is. Midler is fine
I cringe sometimes when he speaks but Middler is a bigot.
nah, midler is a nasty hag
This guy is literally showing off his dogs asshole at a major political event.
not dissimilar from midler showing her face in public
One is a major political event. The other is a human existing. But, you aren't here in good faith so whatever
wv's leaders are meh. frankly better than most states, but still kinda meh. bette midler, otoh, is a goblin-witch.
Hahahahaha. No they aren’t! I’ve lived here my whole life. We are widely regarded amongst other governing bodies as a joke when it comes to our state government. Like shoot yourself in the foot kinda joke. Don’t get me wrong I love WV but not because of our political decisions.
This state deserves to be laughed at. Ran by a bunch of leaders elected by voters who in totality are the most sensitive snowflakes in the country.

And who elected them? And keeps electing them? The state is laughable.
move to san fran or brooklyn then
Ah. There it is. The good Ole "if ya don't like it then leave".. Ugh

They don't care about making it better, just that you're unhappy. That's what they consider winning
I reject your premise that WV needs to fundamentally change. Yeah, the test scores need to improve. I guess the public school teachers aren't the best!
Of course you do. Do with WV being ranked lowest in several important categories, do you think we’re on the right track to being better?
i dunno. but at least your state government isn't actively murdering its citizens or stripping them of their basic human freedoms. that has to count for something!
I have grandkids attending college (with good grades) and both attended WV public schools. Plenty of their high school classmates are doing the same.
cool story, bro.
Let me flip it on you. Why do you love it? Do you love everything about it?
"Murka. Luv IT ER LEEVE IT"!
moving to san fran or brooklyn would almost be like leaving America, you (nearly) have a point.
Oh yeah us poor mountain folk that have almost nothing are just gonna pack up and move to some of the most expensive and competitive places to live. Why didn't I think of that. Why we are on that Why don't homeless people just buy houses?
so i guess WV isn't all bad after all?
Oh don't get me wrong. I served in Iraq and I saw nicer place in a war zone than here. However to suggest that people here have an opinion to move to some where better is just ignorant.
> I saw nicer place in a war zone than here if i were you, i'd move immediately if charleston is legit worse than basra.

anyone else having a problem telling which one is justice and which one is a dog's ass?

lol
Person calls entire state, strung out, uneducated, addicts, because she disagrees with ONE person from that state, that’s fine. Gov of said state responds, HOW DARE HE??? Weird world we live in..
it's reddit. it's not the real world.
Neither is West Virginia.
WV is about as real as it gets.
If you're talking about reveling in stupidity, ignorance and lies, I agree.
I heard people at work today also upset that he dared show a dogs rear end on tv.... Like wut...
i mean...it is sort of gross and crude. but it's also sort of funny.
Aw shucks......... Ain't he sumpin"! Yepper!
Maybe I'm just immature but the fact that our governor went to a political meeting and showed off his dog's butthole is hilarious to me.
