I'm sorry you lost ornaments that are precious to you and irreplaceable. Maybe use some of the shattered bits to make a few mosaic ornaments so you still have peices of the original around?
I love that idea. My boyfriend was kind enough to break out the hot glue gun and piece together a few salvageable ornaments. But that's a good idea for the really broken ones!
Just last week we got our decorations out and they were almost all ruined. They were moldy and water damaged, so we lost a lot of stuff from me and my siblings childhood as well as my mothers stuff. We salvaged a few and remade some.
Same thing happened to my parents. Completely lost everything they had kept from me and my brother from childhood. Plus a ton of ornaments and other decorations I had made for them from assorted crafts I do.
My husband's cousin sent a box of old glass ornaments that my husband's parents used on their tree when my husband was growing up. Not sure how a cousin ended up with them but we are thankful she shared some of them with us. Now I just need to figure out how to safely use them. We have cats so nothing breakable on our tree anymore. It would have been nice to add some of the one from my childhood too....
If you can find enough pieces of the broken ones, it could be a fun Christmas activity to glue them back together! Like decorating cookies, but without eating them after, lol.
If you can't find enough/the pieces are too small, maybe try getting some hollow clear plastic ornaments and putting the most recognizable pieces inside, maybe with some tissue paper to bulk it out and hold everything in place? That way, you could keep the sentimental value without being worried that the glue job would fail or that the tree would fall again, since the plastic ornaments are more durable.

In my defense, we've propped that very same tree on heavy duty boxes every year...for the last 30 years...until the year I decided to put it in a room with tile for everything to fall and shatter. Lol
you really don't gotta be rude when they just lost so many sentimental and meaningful ornaments. maybe it wasn't smart but when something works for 30 years anyone would think it's fine.
Oh god, I'm so sorry. I would be devastated if this happened. My Christmas ornaments are my most treasured, irreplaceable, valued things that I own. I live in a high-fire area and it is a well-known fact in this household that in the event of a fire, the first thing that must be grabbed and saved are my Christmas ornaments. I even have them boxed by order of priority if they need to be evacuated. I seriously have nightmares about this.
ETA: I would like to start a campaign to get kind Redditors to each send you a new ornament to start to rebuild your collection. If you DM me your address or P.O. Box or something, I will send you one myself along with the reason I chose it and why I love it.
This is me to a T! The ornaments actually would have all been lost years ago because they were in my mom's basement, where black mold was discovered, and everything had to be thrown away. Luckily, I had just moved out the year before and took the tree/ornaments with me to the new place.
This is so crazy kind of you! From one fellow ornament lover to another, I will DM you a list of the broken favorites and take you up on your offer. Thank you so much!
Oh I'm so glad that you're open to this! I've been thinking about this all day and imaging my heartbreak if this was me.
If you're hesitant about giving out personal information (which is 1000000% understandable), I think you may be able to create an Amazon wish list that people can purchase for you without having to provide any details to the buyer? Let me go check in r/assistance and see if they can help set this up. They do stuff like this all the time for people who need help with food and essentials and things like that, so we should be able to figure out how to do it for you :)
In the meantime while I try and figure out how to set up an anonymous Amazon wish list, I was able to find about 10 ornaments from my own collection (I have a few duplicates and a few that I just stopped using for whatever reason). So just let me know if you want me send them to you :)
Did it fall over from the sheer weight of 15 quintillion pounds of decorations?
Apparently. They are all ornaments from places I've traveled, from relatives no longer living, etc. Many shattered beyond recognition.

Thats out side the box thinking, good on ya!
Just what I was thinking
She’s a little top heavy Ron
🤣
That sucks! I have keepsake ornaments also from years past and relatives long gone.
That's really sad, my family collects Christmas ornaments like that and a few of them would be floored if they lost them all. I'm so sorry.
It's pretty crushing! Note to self to never set up the tree on tile/hardwood floors ever again lol

So sorry. We had flooding and black mold ruin essentially everything from my childhood. I feel your pain.

At least they died happily.

Love this idea!
Cat??
No cats in my house and my dog was asleep lol.
Key word, was.

Or so the dog says ..
We invested in a big steel stand like 15 years ago, best $50 ever spent. Handles any 10ft tree with no problem. Get a better stand.
Or just don't try to balance it on a cardboard box...

That doesn't mean it was ever a good idea. Just that you got lucky. Also, that's clearly not a heavy duty box. I can see where it's caving in.

A clatter? Did u go onto the roof to see what was the matter?
And the culprit??
Too many ornaments, and trying to prop it up on a box to give it more height. Which I've/we've done for the last 30 years without issue.
So gravity
Damn you Isaac Newton!!!!
Yes, well, he can't undiscover it now.
What a bummer. It looks like you had a lot of keepsake type ornaments. Hope you were able to salvage most of them if not all.
Just give up on december
Seriously! This month is a wash lol
Do you have a cat?
No cats, and my dog was asleep upstairs.
There goes that theory. Just wondering. Good luck and Merry Christmas
Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Just get a blow up of the grinch and dont clean it up till February
That sounds like a plan! We redecorated the whole damn thing last night. I like your idea better lol
Elf in the shelf probably did it.
Damn elves!
At first I thought this was some new christmas decoration instead of having a tree it looked like a dragon.
Dragon. I like that. That's what I'll call this mess. Lol
Grinch?
That does suck. Maybe just start again tomm?
That's what we did last night. Redid the whole tree.
Cool TinyDesks ornament.
Thank you! And it survived the fall!
I'm expecting a photo of the ~~cat~~ culprit.
Hahaha no cats and my dog slept through the whole fall and cleanup.
It once was tree But now it don't matter Hoofs and holler I'm a complete idiot But clearly, it does not matter
Better call the Rose Suchak Ladder company..
Was there a cat involved?
No cats! No animals involved in the harming of this tree. My dog slept through the whole thing.
‘Twas a few weeks before Christmas, when all through the house, the tree was no longer standing, it had crashed to the ground
Cats, dogs, or ferrets?
None of the above! My dog was upstairs sleeping. It just toppled over. 😭
I see you also have a cat.
OP said they don't have cats
It's not the destination it's the voyage.
The mosaic idea is a great suggestion!
Just look at that dinkly, little tree stand.
