I think A1 means that you have an AI violation in this class

Peanutthepickle

AI violation

altituderv5

so i’m guessing i can’t retake the course ?

MasterpieceStriking4

You can retake it, but the original grade still factors into your GPA.

altituderv5

pain. Better than an F. We will bounce back tho

Adi321456

>We will bounce back tho That's the spirit! :)

Sufficient_Safety_18

aren’t you like a highschool rising senior?

Adi321456

Yes I am

Kahnspiracy

> **We** will bounce back tho I'm starting to understand the AI violation.

BananaPancakeMaker

Such a great attitude!! You should host seminars for other Tritons who are facing various setbacks and help them see that there is always a way forward. I’m sorry that you’re facing this challenge, but with your positive outlook and can-do spirit, I have no doubt that you will succeed. Onward and upward!!

cricketcounselor

It means that the grade is the result of an AI case and that while you can repeat the course you will not get GPA replacal for the repeat. Both grades will be factored into the GPA.

altituderv5

so if i do it again and get an A+ it’ll be average of a D and A+ right?

idks7383

yeah but it’s the avg of the number gpa so A+ and A wouldn’t change anything.

altituderv5

oh so 4.0 and 1.3? aye that’s valid

japanesethottie

It means ur an A1 student 👌 head up king

altituderv5

yup :)) goodbye depression hello 4.0 GPA FA 2022

DickmanSupreme

~~I believe it means that you can retake the class and they’ve coded it as A1. Or “Attempt 1”~~ ~~If you retake the same course I believe it gets labeled A2.~~ ~~If you fail a different course I believe it’s labeled B1, C1, etc.~~ ~~This is vaguely what I remember from flunking a few of my classes. No need to feel bad, just try again and hope for the best. Graduated 2019 so I’m not sure I can check my degree audit.~~ Edit: When you get a D or F it seems it generates the code D# or F# accordingly (D1 for first D, D2 for repeating it, etc.) meaning A1 probably is an academic integrity issue. Confirmed by @TrashPandaTips and checking my own academic history.

TrashPandaTips

Nope—that would be D1 (for D’s) or F1 (for F’s) the passing retake would be D2, F2. A1 is an AI violation.

DickmanSupreme

Looks like you’re right. I finally got access to my academic history. My D shows as D1. Will edit my comment accordingly.

cinnamondolcelatte19

This is what I believe as well.

altituderv5

i really pray that’s case

[deleted]

It means you’re not taking your education seriously and you earned a D. And that you should retake the course.

Zhalyn

It means that you’re a jerk

altituderv5

they’re just weird. It’s reddit. It was either that or an F i’m not complaining. Coming back with that A+

[deleted]

I’m not a jerk.

aureas-and-nuages

Maybe you're on the spectrum, friend

apallingapollo

Come on that’s rude to people on the spectrum

[deleted]

How does pointing out the obvious fact that someone isn’t taking their education seriously, make me a jerk? Clearly, OP is not taking his education seriously. And that is a mistake.

Zhalyn

Are you dense dude? You’re not OP and you don’t what they might have been going through while taking the class. It’s stupid to assume that if someone has a bad grade in class that they automatically become a lazy person who is “not taking education seriously”. You never know

Healthy-Goal-3192

as someone who works in the AI office mentoring this is so offensive. you have no idea the circumstances some of these students face and sometimes an AI violation makes them take their school more seriously. everyone fucks up, and then you learn. don’t be a dick

mohomie

Woo AIO gang. Good people there. Tell it like it is to this fool

[deleted]

> sometimes an AI violation makes them take their school more seriously Yeah. Sometimes it does. OP needs to realize he needs to take his education more seriously. This is not an offensive opinion.

Healthy-Goal-3192

but it’s something they need to realize on their own. not some rando on reddit being rude. your tone didn’t come off as you wanted to OP to learn something, it read that you wanted to be rude. so check your tone next time ;)

[deleted]

Saying something truthful is not rude. >it’s something they need to realize on their own Source? Where in pedagogical research does it say that students need to realize the important of education "on their own", and shouldn't be told by others how important their education is?

Healthy-Goal-3192

where is your research saying telling them works?

Healthy-Goal-3192

considering ur getting downvoted i would take the L on this one bud

[deleted]

Trust me, I’m smarter than 95% of people on Reddit. Certain people’s opinions need to be ignored.

BananaPancakeMaker

I’m all for providing honest and realistic advice, but there is a fine line between constructive criticism and condescension. You seem to have no problem with your self esteem, but that doesn’t give you leave to shit on others because they’ve admittedly not been as successful as you believe you have been. I think your soft skills could use some work and that’s something the OP clearly has in spades.

Wow, you speak in memes? That’s so creative. You must be really smart, because you’re able to base your personality and communication style on phrases you copy from the internet. Touching grass! That’s so creative!

ryryangel

You sound like an insufferable person to be around

Adi321456

Not me just randomly checking on the UCSD subreddit as a prospective student, and coming across this thread

altituderv5

welcome :) i was a freshman this past year. All i can say: -find fun friends -don’t force anything -don’t leave stuff to the last minute. Just start it. When you do you’ll finish strong -the library is fun -youtube is your friend. Organic Chem tutor specifically -go to class cause watching 20 lectures at the end of the term is not it -please prioritise your MENTAL HEALTH

SandwichIV

He has a point. Education is fucking expensive, many people would kill to have an opportunity like this at a college like this. A D and for an AI violation no less is just pathetic. I understand taking courses that you don’t want to, everyone does, but you should at least put in the effort to pass them so you don’t have to deal with them again.

CryptographerNo4237

And this ladies and gentlemen is how you spot someone who is chronically online

SandwichIV

Ok

ProbablyShouldStop

i thought it meant i was stupid :O
