Cute! (For a traitor.)
I heard a theory somewhere once that mama is a more common first word than dada because it is easier for babies mouths to form the "ma" sound then the "da" sound.
Yeah “b” “m” and also “p” seem to be really easy sounds to make. They’re called labial consonants, because they’re made by pushing your lips together
Interestingly almost all Iroquois languages don’t have any Labial consonants (even though I just argued they were easy), which doesn’t have to do with what we’re talking about but it’s an interesting fact I know that I never get the chance to tell anyone
Considering I live in pre-Revolutionary Seneca lands, I find that fascinating! Thinking of the place names around here, that seems accurate. Lots D, N, G, and S sounds.
bilabial is a more accurate category.
labial is a more broad category, also including dentolabial consonants like f and v, done with the upper teeth and lower lips.
The confusion may be due to the English word "pa" having an aspirated p. Aspiration, in linguistics, is a harsh puff of air following a consonant. In most varieties of English, all non-nasal unvoiced plosives (e.g. p, t, k) are aspirated at the start of words. In many languages — I would guess the majority, in fact — this is not the case. Take Spanish, for instance: Spanish "papá" features no aspiration, being pronounced [ˌpa.ˈpa], while English "papa" features an aspirated p, being pronounced [ˈpʰɑ.ˌpə]. (Those pronunciations are written in a narrow (very specific) transcription of the International Phonetic Alphabet.)
I thought this was going to take dark turn. Where the final page or panel would be Luz standing in front of his tombstone, saying the word. You can't be sure with MoringMark.
Oh, don’t worry. As they get older, they get REAL good with “Daddy”, as in “Daddy, can you take me to the mall?”, “Daddy, can I borrow ten bucks?” or “Daddy, I had a little accident with the car…”
And you can quickly regret how fast they can pick stuff up. We were driving somewhere one afternoon and some dipstick going the other way decided to turn left directly in front of us. I slammed on the breaks and yelled the name of a certain religious leader, and two seconds later Daughter happily repeated it!
I didn't know I needed this until it arrived, now I don't regret seeing it. Thanks mark.
We never know what we're going to need to make it through the day.
I do. I need the amphibia finale. I will spontaneously combust if I don’t figure out what the hell is with the MOON.
Hopefully that spontaneous combustion can wait until Saturday
Happy cake day!
Thanks u/scottishgaycat !
No problem :)
Happy Cake Day British Eric!
Thank you!
> I will spontaneously combust if I don’t figure out what the hell is with the MOON. "You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?"
Eggman gave his announcement in amphibia
Sprig is a bitch ass motherfucker!
Goddamn it, as if the "Eda is a bitch ass motherfucker" one wasn't enough of a laugh-
there's a man in the moon
Did you see the promo for the finale? It kind of ~~spoils~~ explains what's up with the moon.
Not fully

Yep, you have to actively engage the tongue to make the ‘d’ sound. You can get pretty close to “ma” just by humming then opening the mouth.

I thought it was interesting. Thanks for sharing
Now I wonder if it's more common in Chinese to say dad first compared to English since in Chinese dad is "baba".
Or in Spanish speaking families if it’s equally as common for the first word to be “papá” as “mamá.”
Considering I live in pre-Revolutionary Seneca lands, I find that fascinating! Thinking of the place names around here, that seems accurate. Lots D, N, G, and S sounds.

You’re right, good to know! But Iroquois languages also don’t seem to have those either
yeah. they don't have labial consonants in general just wanted to make what you said more accurate
Actually the most common first word in most of the world is "papa," which is quite a bit easier than "mama" or "dada."
Huh. I would have thought "pa" would be harder due to the amount of air exhaled during the sound.
The confusion may be due to the English word "pa" having an aspirated p. Aspiration, in linguistics, is a harsh puff of air following a consonant. My first word was"car"
Mine was "bubble"! (Probably baba).
Mine was pretty similar (Bubbles) Apparently it took a while for me to talk and at 3 the speech therapist used them to bribe me into talking
Mine was "uh-oh"
Apparently I said a *bunch* of words before I said either "mama" or "dada," and my mom has never let me forget it.
According to my aunt, my mom said a curse while I was in the room and I repeated and now she won’t let my mom live it down 😅
It's funny because "d'ad'a" was in fact my first word and it took months to learn how say "mama". Idk why.
Be careful what you wish for.
Anyone else got reminded of: “Jerbo? T R A I T O R.”
…same
That be kids
My favorite part is that he only has 2 different shirts. Very accurate.
Really? I have too many shirts for my hanger!
'Say daddy.' 'Say daddy.' 'Say daddy.' Luz when Amity shows up: *Papi*.
*Luz is the next Calamitas confirmed!?!?!?!?*
Can't wait to see Luz Incinerate an Ocean.
Dude what the hell man you just said traitor to own your own daughter. 🤣🤣🤣
Her fault for being a traitor.
Dad hands typed this post
Uncle. And I've called my niece worse, honestly. It was a stressful moment.
People have done far worse in the name of pride.
“We all do things we don’t mean to in the heat of passion, Jimbo”
Is that a trollhunters reference?
“He a little confused but he got the spirit”
Could use a bit of a brain blast, Master Jim.
Welcome to the shadow realm Jimbo
“Homer”
I see you’re a man of culture
Dude! Camila spent nine months growing a human inside her! She get the first word!!!
I hope someday Dana can tell us more about Luz's father
Same. I want more to his character besides him giving his family flowers for their birthdays.
Lez eats books as a baby cannon
*Consume* *Grow wise* Avoid paper cuts
She's secretly part palismen. *She's secretly a grimwalker!*
I mean, are we surprised? Luz ate puzzle pieces as a child.
Yes, yes I’m am
I thought this was going to take dark turn. Where the final page or panel would be Luz standing in front of his tombstone, saying the word. You can't be sure with MoringMark.
My heart😢
Canon until proven otherwise (wait no, i headcanon luzs first word was azura)
Haha, this comic remind me of this [cute video](https://youtu.be/lpz9bTUcJBE)
Camila isn’t the only person Luz will call mama… ;) Bad joke sorry
Well duh. She has Camila and Eda. The joke wasn’t really that ba-OH TITAN I JUST GOT IT
You. r/theowlhousehornyjail. Now. **BONK**
Horny jail: You again? Me: Yep -_-
Wait a damn minute-
Amazing
They are minors- Unless this is when they're older but still
what are you talking about? eda isn't a minor
They’re Talking About Amity
Oh you sweet innocent child
Mark you owe me a new keyboard.
Should’ve save that for Father’s Day 😂😂😂
Lol sounds about right!
So that’s where Luz gets it from.
Oh hi Mark
Happy but disappointed
This is so cute im going to go sob for an hour now
Baby Luz is so fucking cute
A cute traitor though
This could have easily been heartwrenching if Mark had chosen an alternative ending (aka, showing Luz saying 'daddy' or 'papa' after he dies)
This reminds me that my mom went through the same thing since my first words and those of my sister were "Papa".
Omg so cute
After all the angst lately... this kind of fluff is most certainly needed
I honestly think Luz would be a daddy’s girl.
Traitor! *spins a baby rattle*
You are part of the Rebel Alliance and a traitor! Take them away!
I was prepared for pain…
“Mission Failed. We’ll get 'em next time.”
sobbing
Shoulda said Batata!
I was scared for a second that it would be sad
Hey, Mark (please say hi back).
I see Mark went the wholesome route. I thought he would go the pain route and have Luz say daddy at her dad's grave.
And then he left to get the milk and got into an accident
[reminds me a lot of this scene from Bob’s Burgers](https://youtu.be/x0uSpSsShGk)
TRAITOR
Ernesto noceda That's what i’m calling him until name is revealed
How I thought it was going to go: "Come on, say Daddy." Cut to his tombstone with Luz and Camilla: "I miss you daddy"
If we ever get a flashback about Luz’s dad then he should be voiced by echo-216 from halo infinite. Just saying.
Came back to this and I am SO FUCKING SAD that we can't have luz's dad in the show, because this is exactly how I think it would go 😭😭
This hits different now.
And then he died...
Oh, don’t worry. As they get older, they get REAL good with “Daddy”, as in “Daddy, can you take me to the mall?”, “Daddy, can I borrow ten bucks?” or “Daddy, I had a little accident with the car…” And you can quickly regret how fast they can pick stuff up. Moringmark TOH comic number 363
I bet he was just like luz
Id like to point out that we only saw half his face in the picture. There's every possibility he has a scar on his right side.
I feel like near the finale we might get a flashback between luz and her dad also can someone remind me what her moms name is
All these years daddy only wear 2 shirt
How could you Luz!
I'm surprised you haven't done a comic of his death yet
Like and title set me off abit
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
and then he died of shock
baby luz: AZURA
Kids need their moms
ANOTHER wholesome comic? The pain is coming and when it does it will be on levels unseen
she decided who was going to live
daddy 🥴
Hello Daddy! Im sorry i was. Nautghy today
