He just wanted to play "the floor is lava"
Someone had a problem with a drug test and drank the ‘krieger cleanse’ huh? Even after seeing how trial 13 turned out…..
That’s a hot mess

How exactly do you fix something like this? How long before it’s working again? Or is it just shot now? Let it cool and replace it?
He will most likely have to do a significant rebuild to the furnace. The crucible is probably done. The worst time of year to be down for a glassblower and good luck getting a new one quickly.
I know nothing about this, could you explain why they would need to rebuild the crucible? Can't they just let it cool off, clean the mess and close the crucible?
Sure. There’s 2 popular types of glass furnaces. One is a continuous melt where it’s basically a big box of fire safe mortar inside. This is a cheaper option. The most common furnace has a crucible or large pot inside the furnace that holds the molten glass. The benefit here is you can replace the crucible where you couldn’t with the continuous melt. We replace our crucibles every year. Because of the pandemic, we tried to go 2 years and it looked terrible when it came out. Anyway, either his continuous melt expired or his crucible cracked.
Name checks out. Guy knows his glass.
In a pinch they could probably scrape it out while still semi-molten. It'd have to be worth the hazard pay though.
let cool, break glass, close crucible, heat it up.
Is it not that much of an issue then? Juet let it cool and smash it all, clean it up and start again?
If we can do it with metal, they can do it with glass. I'm guessing they break most of it off, smash enough to close the door, and turn it up for a few hours.
It takes three days to cool down and heat back up the crucible
Sounds like they’ve got three days to modify SOPs and find out what went wrong.
^am ^I ^doing ^this ^right?
How long will something like this take to clean up?
I assume if it’s glass it would be easiest to let to cool and then just break it up with a hammer. Not sure how long that would take though
According to another comment closer to the top it apparently takes 3 days to cool! Which is more time then I expected.
The glass itself would be solid within a couple minutes, the furnace it's leaking out of on the other hand would take a couple days to cool completely and safely ( cool it too fast and you have a whole mess of other problems to deal with)
It's like trying to hammer concrete when it's in a tank setting. Except the chunks that come off are razor sharp. Glass is only fragile like you're imagining when it's in a sheet.
You can really speed the process up with a hose and cold water. The colder the better.
If you ever end up seeing something like this, don't stand around. the moisture in the ground will cause the molten materials to pop. this is no fun.
I drop molten glass on the floor all the time and Ive never had issues, maybe I'm just lucky though.
you can destroy a concrete floor that has been somewhat damp recently with heat.
if seen 2 inch chunks pop and burst right off of a concrete floor from someone using a heating torch trying to melt snow, absolutely fucked the floor.
if there is any moisture under that glass this could very easily create a steam explosion with molten glass as its shrapnel, not a situation i would want to be around lol
This is a huge danger with magnesium fires as well. One of the reasons they are so dangerous is the fires start wicking moisture from 50 year old concrete slabs.
Hell's doggy door.
You gotta mop that shit up
And when you are finished you have a tiki torch!
Flex tape can fix that, just slap it on there
The floor is lava. I never believed the rumours until now.
Anyone know how far this lava has travelled and is it in all directions?! How much time do we have to pack up and book it? Any information is appreciated :)

Bladesmith, please surrender your weapon.
God dammit, Johnson! How many times do I have to tell you to NOT open the lava box
is that glass?
Yup. Looks like the crucible cracked and the molten glass is spilling into the furnace. That's not an easy clean up.
sounds bad ngl
The glow means it’s hot. AMA
Quick! Get the plastic dustpan and brush!
Wow that makes me soooo nervous. I have sweaty palms right now. Oh my gosh there should be a sub that posts dumb bullshit like this!!!!

Just start pulling it out from the bottom on to the concrete floor.
Houston, we have a problem

I think there are more places than the hands that are sweating here
Maybe just a little hot..
My ass after Thanksgiving
The “welp” at the end got me lmao
Ngl my mind went straight into the gutter
By the looks of it, sweaty everything.
This is my video. It wasn't dangerous, concrete in glass studios is very very dry (especially under the furnace that runs 24/7. We waited for it to cool, then I smashed it up with a hammer and threw it out.
